i just restore my image backup from June on my motox and all is fine. but a while ago a notification popped up saying something like "a important Google app requires update"
when i touch it in redirected to play store. to Google play service page. there are two buttons: disable, open.

if i click disable i get this message saying some nonsense about device administrator.
when i click OK it just closes.
so i went to settings - security - device admin. and of course there was no Google item there and all the 3 items i had there were NOT selected.
searching was mostly futile as that keyword filled the internet because people flash custom roms and forget to read about the gapps part i did found one thread saying that you have to remove all Google accounts before updating this... but if i remove all Google accounts i won't even be able to freaking open the play store...
what am i missing here?

You could try updating it manually.
This post on AP has the latest update and explains how to choose the right one for your device.

Hi all,
How can I remove this search by Google bar from my status bar? (don't know how it got there unfortunately).
It's linking to: search.mobirowser.com/?app_id=95280&p=nsw

Hope you guys have some ideas on this.
I take it chrome is your default browser, check in the settings for chrome, or reset the to default.
Aha! I like it acctually, so this is what you get if you download latest Chrome?
Edit: No I don't have it
Looking at where it's linking to I'd say some crapware app put it there.
Googling mobirowser.com gives the whois records for some shady sites, probably link sites to get add referrals.
Start by removing apps you installed last or don't need.

sounds feasable. Try downloading addons detector and running that. That app is very good at finding that sort of thing...
Found it!
It turned out to be an unofficial rotten tomatoes app.

glad I could help, I take it you use addon detector?
Ever since updating to hangouts 4.0, I can't send hangouts messages via voice. Anyone else have that issue? Just says account not found.
?

Try one of this methods, it worked for me;
(1) Go to - (your phone's) Settings/Accounts and select your account and delete it. Afterwards log in again.
Or
(2) Simply go to (your phone's) Settings/ Apps/ Hangouts and select delete cache, and the select delete data. Last thing you have to do is force close app and then reboot your device.
If anything is unclear or difficult to understand then feel free toask me

This didn't work for me. Additionally, I went as far as a full wipe and reinstall and the issue remains. It only happens with hangouts 4.0. I tried using hangouts as a built in system app as well as a user space installed app, neither work. For now being on 3.3.x is working for me but maybe someone else has come across this issue and has an alternative solution.
It has to do with capitals in the email
Unfortunately this issue exists for several of us and Google still hasn't fixed it. It has to do with your original email using capital letters in the username. If you look at the email address it's trying to send from , you'll most likely see some capitals in there. See thread about it here: productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/hangouts/K77g6VWr92E
At some point today my phone updated and changed my app drawer to some new style. I don't care for the search bar at all, its useless to me completely. Is there any way to remove it, or revert to the older one without rooting?
I also would like to remove the recent apps or whatever that is at the top.
My phone did this after updating Android System Webview. I sure I hope I can revert it back to the OG look.
I don't think it's the Web view. I guess I'm going to have to find another launcher
I've had a system update for a few days now, after webview updated I tried opening the app drawer and it's now different, and I have yet to install the OTA.

Huh..You got vertical app drawer and i didnt..HOW??
I'm guessing you're running the Android 6.0 dev preview? Looks like Google Now on Tap.
http://www.droid-life.com/2015/09/17/google-now-on-tap-apk/
My phone is bone stock, not rooted only ota updates from Google. No dev view anything.
your google app has updated, try going to settings > apps > google app and uninstall updates, should let you revert to an older version.
Has anyone else noticed their apps updating themselves without the use of the play store? I swear today I saw Facebook and Google play music do it.

they only update if you have the auto update option enabled in the play store. otherwise they do not auto update.
I must have slept too long then and not noticed the new features in GPM. Unless they were features already implemented but not enabled until Google decided to do so. I don't remember tapping search ever opened up a small search box, it was always it took me to a different screen.

I used to get something like that third picture
And now I get this little search box, and the play store doesn't show that it was recently updated.

It's pretty standard for google to implement features weeks or months in advance to "rolling them out" and usually it depends on Google Play Services which auto updates regardless of settings. wouldn't surprise me if Facebook used similar rollout methods
Hello there! New to this forum! So, here's the thing - I live in Europe, Poland, and about 2 or so years ago, I have bought a P30 Pro phone from one of our local stores - I highly doubt that it is a Chinese version of the device, but I might be wrong. Either way, I have recently installed Google Contacts app from Play Store, as I have wanted to make it a default on my device - I am wanting to use it with cooperation with the official People app from Microsoft on my Windows 10 PC, so that I can easily message my family or friends from my computer - But since to do that I would need to have Google's app manage my contacts, rather than the preinstalled dialer on my phone, I decided I would be willing to adapt and change my habits over to the new app. All would be nice and easy, if my phone actually detected Google's app I have installed and let me change it to default contacts app in settings, which it doesn't. Any idea why that might be happening?

Thank you, that worked. I was kinda surprised that it needed to be the Google's dialer app but glad it worked.
