Root is only available on the Dev and Pure versions of this device. Hopefully root and unlocked bootloaders will come around to carrier versions. I'm personally awaiting that. But here's something nice, this phone should be one of the first to get Android L so you'll get that keyboard when Android L rolls out to this phone officially.

See this post in the App section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/themes-apps/app-android-l-keyboard-t2889542
I installed the Google L keyboard from that thread - no root necessary. You can switch themes - default is Material design; options are Blue and White I think.

You can get the TouchPal.apk from the Palm Pre theme in the Dream themes and wallpapers section, just download the theme and pull the 2 .apks that say TouchPal.

I have no idea, it's the only one I know of but if it's a beta then it's a hell of a good one.

no it doesnt...still in beta
As a beta it's ok, but it really needs some changing. there's a .com button buried in there, about 3 or 4 taps in, therefore you could just type it as quickly, hash key is buried away as well, making it annoying for Twitter use, the keys are a bit too small in qwerty, which wouldn't be a problem but for the recognition suggestions being a bit silly.
best thing about it for me is the slide up on a letter for CAPS, slide down for punctuation option. definitely needs a little haptic for that though, if you're not looking directly at what you're typing it'll come out as garbage most of the time.
It's now available in the Market free till Sept. Make sure you install language pack after the main program.
I dont find it on the market.

I just saw it. Go to All Applications, By Date tab, and it's not too far down, but you should see a couple language packs first.
Touch Pal is released in the market today and its free to download until sept 30...this is not the beta version..this version you can now choose the vibrate and sound options on the settings...
Sorry to bring back an old thread but I just upgraded the ROM on my phone and now cannot find TouchPal on the market or on the web. I guess it's no longer in the market? But where is it??
I thought it was equal to the HTC keyboard, but touchpal has the 1-9 on the top row of letters and that is just awesome (gesture down to get the number instead of letter). It was so convenient.
Hi Everybody, I have this Touchpal apk v 1.0 from my Vodafone 845 and it is not working on my G1(Enomther The Official Froyo rom) how can i make it work? thanks....
I think here is a tool that can bring APKs to run. But I do not know how to use it.

If the version is not important, there is a newer version in the Market.

I've tried to repair the APK. The following file works for me.

After a while I'll delete the file because I do not know if this is allowed.

Someone have a clean widget with withe buttons and albumart insted of the glowing buttons for power amp?! THX
You can't edit anything in the poweramp APK, developer locked out any changes. He said he'll release a skinning kit in the 2.0 update.
Ok. Thx for answer.
version 2.0.1 has been released. Are there still no themes possible or did he add it to the update? I can't seem to find any themes yet

lol, look at this (official theme for PAMP2) http://4pda.ru/forum/dl/post/1224470/PowerAMP_Classic_Skin_1.0_build_8.apk
PS: Before downloading, you should register on 4pda.ru
Yeah I know there are 4 official theme's available but I want custom ones, I don't like the widgets (the new ones from last week(s) are already a tad better but still not to my liking)

I realize that Nexus S isn't available for retail sale yet, but when the code becomes available can someone provide the LWP apk seen in all the images of the Nexus S? Also, how about the Gingerbread keyboard apk? Thanks to whomever attempts and/or gets this done.
gingerbread keyboard is already out, searching is your friend.
as far as the LWP, those will take a few weeks after the phone comes out.

No. It requires /system/lib/libjni_latinime.so and replaces LatinIME.apk in /system/app

It's only possible when people have modded it in a way so that it doesn't need system access because originally it did need root. This means that it is theoretically possible to have the keyboard without root but it would mean that somebody would have to modify it so that it's a standalone app which is unlikely and even if done will take a while.

I know nothing about the inner workings of the Droid X keyboard. I'm assuming they modified it into it's own standalone apk apart from LatinIME if you can install it without root.
the3dman made a nice copy of the wallpaper here .
-Install ninjamorph and go to /system/app/LiveWallpapers.apk .
-Replace pyramid_background.png in /drawable-hdpi with the new wallpaper.
-Finish Project
-Select Nexus LWP from Wallpaper Menu
-Profit
Or if you got 99 cents. You can buy NexusKang from the market, and set a custom wallpaper.
Should hold you over until the official one is out.

Live wallpaper is available now:

Disregard. This is just a dressed up nexus one LWP, runs really choppy even on a galaxy s phone.
Swype is one of the best and most popular keyboard options for Android, available on Galaxy S. Given the fact Nexus S is based on the Galaxy S would Swype be available on that device as well? Still no info here beta*swype*com
I'm curious about this as well. But I'm thinking not. Does anyone know?
No, it won't have Swype. The hardware is Samsung, but the software is all Google. You'll have to get into the beta or get the .apk file somehow.
I had it on my Vibrant, but I'm still signed up to Beta from my Nexus One days...I prefered the Samsung Swype skin though.
Maybe some Samsung Devs will pack & sign a APK file for you guys!?
never tried swype but i'd like it on the NS
Swype was good when it first came out. It's gotten progressively more inaccurate somehow. i.e. pretty standard words are left out of the dictionary, and accuracy for me is way worse than when I was running 2.1 Eclair (stock JFD firmware on my Vibrant).
SWYPE
Tried to install two types of swype hvga and wvga and no luck DARN!
EDIT
WVGA WORKS YAY
Installed via Android Commander
Anyone that is in the beta program can install the official one. I just installed it on mine and it's working perfectly.
+1 for official Swype.

I would pay up to $10 to have it.

Swype is not to be distributed, per the forum rules, on non-swype devices
Bump.. It would be really awsome if we could have the samsung swype.. Anybody knows what it takes to port ?
*hint* someone posted an apk called SAIDKEYBOARD.apk in a topic called Swype in the Themes & App Section.
But don't take my word for it.

Hello everyone,is there no way to get a dark theme for the stock dialer app on a non-rooted XZ2? Sony have given us the option in the stock messenger app,so why not in the dialer app as well? For that matter, why dont they just make the option available for a dark settings menu also. Really Sony, time to get with it.
Does anyone know of any way at all to get a dark themed stock dialer working on an XZ2 that is not rooted? I-m hoping for a miracle i know.

Why must i wai for Android Q? Do you think our devices will even be updated @MartinX3? The way Sony has been launching a new flagship every 6 months,i would be very surprised that we get Android Q. Also, what makes you think the Dialer or even the settings menu will have a dark theme support as stock?

It does? But do you really think Sony wont remove it and stick with their boring, tried and tested stock white only theme? Just look at what happened with the design of the phones. They released a gorgeous new shape in the XZ2 and then streamlined it on the XZ3,only to go back to the same boring rectangular shape on the upcoming Xperia 1 etc. Yes,they finally changed to a multiple camera set-up and much smaller bezels with a longer screen, but the overall shape of the phones is the same boring old design. They lack any sort of individualism or creativity at Sony HQ at the moment.
