SM-N900A Note 3 wifi issue wpa_supplicant corrupted? - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm hoping someone can help me. If your familiar with the wpa_supplicant file getting corrupted and sticking in "turning on". The only fix I've found was renaming, deleting the file and rebooting which would create a new one. Well that worked for a while but I've botched something. Even after a factory reset on the phone it doesn't change my system/etc/wifi directory & wifi won't turn on.. There are two files that begin with wpa_supplicant (overlay & .conf).. I just can't get it to work and hoped maybe someone has access to those files & I could get working or blank copies? . Any help would be appreciated

Here you go make sure to set the permissions of the files to match the others before you reboot. There should also be a wpa_supplicant.conf file in
Code:
/data/misc/wifi
...that's literally all I know about wifi though so hopefully that's what you're looking for!

That file starting causing a problem for me after the 4.2.2 update during tethering. Barnacle Wifi Tether app has a setting "Skip wpa_supplicant". Checking that is the only way I can tether, don't know if that will help in your case or not.

Known issue? Note 3 wifi turning on indifinetly
So this is a known issue?
I also am getting the wifi issue on my note 3, I can lso repair it for a while if I delete the wpa_supplicient.conf file and reboot.
But I have to do this quite regularly...this is not cool
Did you find a long term solution?

The superb SuperHero Mass (wifi problem)

Hi all,
I installed the SuperHero V3 Mas in my G2 (magic 32b) and it run so good and faster than all of others roms that I have tried. The problem that is the wifi cant turn on (it's normal this rom is made for G1).
Someone can help me to solve this problem and make this rom able to all G2 users.
The trick is to get and push the working wlan.ko (I think its in the sperhero 3 thread already) now why don't you tell me the trick you did to make this the fastest so I can try it
try pulling the wlan.ko file from a magic rom and pushing it through adb to /system/lib/modules, and im guessing its the fastest because he might have the magic that has the 288mb ram instead of 192, so virtually identical to the hero.
thank you for your response, I will try this right now
Thas is not work
failed to copy 'wlan.ko' to '/system/lib/modules/wlan.ko': Read-only file system
I tried to change file access using chmod and I go this message:
failed to copy 'wlan.ko' to '/system/lib/modules/wlan.ko': Read-only file system
please help
Ps: adbd is already running as root

Try "adb remount" to mount /system as writeable.
Thank you for this information.
I tried it. the copy work OK, but the wifi problem steel here
I should have been more clear because pulling the file from any Rom isn't how you go about it. It has to match the kernel you are on and often even be further modified to the build. I think I heard either the wlan from superhero2 or the one from an earlier jachero worked. I just forget what one. Give me some time ill upload it. I had fixed and re-released this build.
Edit: Wlan.ko attatched. Belongs in system/lib/modiules
I thank you so math for your help,
I putted the file in my phone and i restart it, but wifi steel not work
Hi, I tried with JCAHero and it's same, very great rom, run so good on my magic G2, but the wifi not work

Use the one I posted in this thread. I edited the post above ya. It should work then.
Thank you, I putted the new wlan.ko on my phone. now it seems better but it not work, now when I want to start wifi it show wifi is turning on during 4 or 5 sec, after that it show unable to start wifi.
if it was some link to explain how I can modify wlan.ko, maybe I can do some things (I'm java developer and I think it's native kernel file)

[Answer?] GingerDX Wi-Fi disconnect problem

Hi, I think that the wifi disconnect problem of GingerDX is that the file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-wlan0.lease has no "User" permission..
Someone having that problem can confirm it? just have to install a file explorer (I thinks it has to be Root Explorer), go to that file and set User permissions for Read, Write and Execute..
wifi probs is fixed! u just have to forget the network and and connect it again newly!
I tried that so many times with no luck, but when I did that the problems seems to be gone.. So I want to confirm that.. I have seen that other user have that problem too, but I can't post in development forum yet.. u.u

i looked for the file but the dhcp folder is empty. maybe thats why my wifi is not working.
My wifi also sometimes disconnects but it quickly re-connects and everything is ok. Wifi on stock 2.1 was much worse. When it disconnected i even had to restart my home router. I think it is problem with my home wifi device. Maybe yours is broken, either?
get the wifi files from freexperia project.
that file is supposed to be created automatically when you are connected to a wifi network, I deleted it and was auto-created again..
Cant connect to wifi getting stuck @obtaining ip address then x8 reboots

Ad-Hoc with HC S7 4 G?

Can someone who has upgraded their 4G to HC please tell me if it will support Ad-hoc WiFi connections?

I had to root it and with Root Explorer change out the wpa-supplicant file... if you are asking about Ad-Hoc I am taking for granted you have heard about this fix for the Streaks... If not just do a little searching for the file...
Once you have it, you go to /system/bin and find the original and rename it to *.bak or *.old, doesn't matter, just something so you don't lose it in case.
You should have your new wpa_supplicant file on your sd card... move it to that same folder, toggle your wifi off and on a couple of times and reboot... and when you come back you should be able to see ad hoc networks

You are unable to connect to your Ad Hoc network?
Little more info please... does your Streak see the network? If it sees the network and is not connecting, then it's more than likely a problem with your computer and not the phone...
I always set mine up with a simple name like Toshiba which is my laptop brand and I just leave it as an open network because I only use it for a moment so I don't have to put in a password... but still, gimme some more info on what your phone is doing while it tries to connect

Ah ok... so lemme be sure you did this right... you went into /system/bin and found your wpa-supplicant file and renamed it say wpa-supplicant.bak just in case (at least I hope you did) Ok, now you should already have the new file you downloaded on your sd card correct. SO you browse to that file and copy it to the same folder /system/bin and paste it in there...
Then go to your wifi and toggle on and off a couple of times, reboot the phone for good measure and when you come back it should work, if NOT, then rename the new file to wpa-suplicant.new I guess, and the original file, remove the .bak or whatever extension you used and restart your Streak to see if you get connectivity back, if so, then there's something wrong with the file you downloaded

You never guess how dumb I am, I forgot to unzip the file. OMG
aw man really, so you were putting the whole zip file in the /system/bin?
Well I hope you get it goin!! See it's usually the little things like that that wreak havoc.
YES, it works! I think you helped me realize to unzip the file. Thanks so much!
Ok, I just upgraded to HC on my Streak 7 Wifi. I went and changed the supplicant file like I did on 2.2.2. My Streak connects, but when I connect to the internet I loose connection. Are there any other workarounds for connecting to adhoc wifi?

[SOLVED] GPS problems after GB update

Got GPS problem after the update with my LG o2x.
It cant seem to find any sats. Done everything thats been said on other threads nothing helps.
Any one with the same problem ?
Me 2. I get fix for about 2 sec. Then its stuck afterwards.
I don't even get a lock
Try clearing AGPS data with GPS Status
doesn't help. Can people please post their settings in hidden menu. All of them please

some people said it work some said not work so try as your choice.
do you disable gps if you don't use it?
in official froyo and officeal gingerbread (v20l)
gps need to be enable on boot if you want good signal , otherwise you will always lose it
so try this
enable gps
reboot phone
turn on mobile data ( no wifi !)
open your gps app
I got my first fix in about 30 secs (cold start)
second on in 5 sec
Same problem as some of us had with previous leaked GB roms. Topogigi fixed the problem by tweaking service.jar file, that's the only thing I know. He talked about way of calling hardware that was wrong and explained that after a lock the GPS vanished..
You should search in Topogigi thread, there is a workaround in the beginning pages that could work (setting a new server in hidden menu).
That's why I'll stay with my ROM for now... It is perfectly working.
+1 from me, davjan. Seems to work for me. Thanks.

This worked for me!, however the srs level for each sat is not greater then 40 for some reason :S
I'm also experiencing this: as soon as the GPS gets a fix, the gps device itself seams to disappear. The Nav-app does get a valid location for one second and then the gps icon disappears.
This problem was not present in 10D and it does seem to happen when I activate the GPS later. If I boot with GPS enabled, the problem doesn't seem to occur.
Can this be fixed with the custom Jar file from Topogigi? Or is that for a different problem (no fix at all or something else - I do get a fix quickly but the GPS device seems to disappear then).
If so, how can I install it on my stock 20L? Some post talks about mounting a folder. How can I do that? I guess I need to root first and then use some kind of program on my pc or....?
I'm sorry if this has been covered before but I'm new to all this and there is so much information and a lot is hard to understand if you're new to this.

Actually no. I copy/paste the unziped jar file using esfile explorer. Got a message files were merged. Then bootloop.
Tried with the help of thansen to recover the file via clockwokmod but that didnt work aswell. So I reflashed the v20l kdz and rerooted.

Just simplify set /system/framework folder into RW mode then delete the old one and then copy the file that extract from zip file into /system/framework then change file permission to 644 (rw-r--r--) --> reboot OR
Here the method from origin
1- Just mount your "/system/framework" folder writeable.
2- Then overwrite the existing "services.jar" with the attached one.
3- Reboot your phone and your gps will get its fix in only some seconds.

Working screen mirroring on rooted devices

Note: This solution only works on MK2 (4.3)
I have been researching a problem I have had on my SPH-L720 with custom ROMs where screen mirroring with my Samsung TV would not work. Based on a thread I found, I have solved my problem and wanted to share with others who may have a similar problem.
In my searching, I stumbled upon this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50597640
The OP of that thread had several applications that he froze, and made some changes to the Build prop file, and the WFDConfig.Xml file. In the end, I only made one change to the WFDConfig.Xml file, and my screen mirroring started working.
1. Edit /system/etc/WFDConfig.Xml, and make the following change:
Code:
<HDCPValid>0</HDCPValid>
2. Reboot phone, and profit!
My setup is MF9 bootbootloader, NAE baseband, Negalite MK2 ROM.
If I have time this weekend, I will upgrade to Negalite NAE ROM, and test it there.
I take no credit for this solution, and credit the original thread above.
Hope this helps someone!

I copied the file to my PC and used notepad++ to do the edit. Then copied the file back to the system/etc folder on the phone. You'll need root and a root-enabled file manager to write to the system folder. I used Root Browser (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree), but there are several apps that will work.

There are a couple of different ways to edit the file. For me, I used Root Explorer, navigated to the file, long pressed the file name, a menu came up and I chose 'Open in Text Editor'. From there it asked if wanted to mount the filesystem as r/w, I chose yes, edited the file, and saved it.
I couldn't find this line in my file, were you on Kit Kat or JellyBean?
For some reason I don't have that line in my WFDConfig.xml, I am on Baseband NAE, Negalite-wonderom-nae-r11, MF9 Bootloader. Any ideas?

I just upgraded my phone to the exact same setup. When I look at the config file for NAE, it is a little different. But, I *think* the correct change would be:
Code:
<ContentProtection>
<Valid>1</Valid> [B]<------- Try changing this to 0[/B]
<Version>WFD_HDCP_2_1</Version> <!-- Valid values WFD_HDCP_2_0 and WFD_HDCP_2_1 -->
<CPPort>6789</CPPort>
<EncryptAudio>0</EncryptAudio> <!-- Valid values 0 / 1 to indicate Audio encryption or not -->
</ContentProtection>
I have made that change to my phone, but I am at work now so I will not be able to test this until later this evening. I will post my results when I get home.

The fix in the OP is for 4.3 Jelly Bean. I just upgraded to 4.4 KitKat, and will have to test my theory on which setting to change when I get home.
Thank you!!! worked !!
man i was breaking my head on this one.. and soft bricked the phone a couple times trying to fix this, and to think the fix was so damn easy! :good::good::good:
Well, bad news on NAE (4.4.2) - the fix does not work. Under <ContentProtection>, I tried setting <Valid> to 0. When I mirror, I get a black screen with a message that says "Unable to enable Screen Mirroring. HDCP is not supported by the connected device" I can hear the sound from the phone on the TV, but no picture.
I just updated the OP that this only works with 4.3. I have gone back to Negalite MK2 ROM, and plan to stay there until a solution for NAE is found.
Does anybody have any other ideas on how to make screen mirroring work in 4.4.2?
Well i did update to NAE and tested the "contentprotection" value to 0 , also changed the name from Valid to HDCPValid and nothing , the TV says " the dive supports HDCP ? " or something like that .
under Developer options on KK now has HDCP checking settings. Tested all 3 options with Valid=0 and valid=1 and nothing.
