I have an SM-G900H Galaxy S5 and an LTE AT&T SIM card. I have used the same SIM card in a Nexus 5 in the same area, so I know it SHOULD get LTE, but it doesn't. I went into the networks settings section and looked at "Network Mode", but the only 3 options were WCDMA/GSM, WCDMA Only, and GSM Only, with LTE not appearing anywhere in there, like it should. The phone is completely stock and has the latest updates installed. Any idea what's wrong? Thanks for any help.
EDIT: I also verified that both phones are using the same exact APN

You'll have to change a couple lines in the build.prop to reflect the G900A device
"All we know is...He's called the Stig!"

Would it get LTE even if lines get changed. When spec don't show lte for 900h.

Yes it will show LTE but I didn't know you were using the Active so don't use G900A it has to reflect your G870A

Samsung Galaxy S5 (octa-core), Also known as Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900H
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
this model does not support 4G LTE, only 3g.
That what I was trying to say above.
Samsung unlock bootloader on SM-G870A ...
I read in other threads (and on the first responses here) that it was possible to enable LTE by modifying the build.prop to reflect that of a phone that DOES support LTE. It seems strange that Samsung would use different hardware when they could just sell the same hardware with a different model number with LTE turned off, so that theory made sense to me, but I'm having trouble locating the build.prop edits.

[Q] ATT GTab on Tmobile Network - 3G Possible? (CM10, JPZ Modem & 1900 re-farm area)
So I have the ATT version of the Galaxy Tab. I have CM10 on it and it's running great. When I initially purchased it, I planned on just using it as a Wifi tablet, no Cell Data primarily since I had CDMA service (Sprint). Recently I switched over to Tmobile and would like to use data from my Tmobile plan.
I SIM unlocked my Tab following Roto's guide
I can make phone calls and send text messages
I get Edge service now
However, I could care less for Voice/Text service, all I want to do is use 3G/HSPA.
I also realize that Tmo's 3G band is different than ATT's, however the 1900 Mhz refarming is already happening in my area (Central Florida). I cannot however tell if my specific local area has coverage (is there an app I can run on my Note2 or GS3 to tell what bands it has access to?).
I am wondering if I can just flash a Tmobile modem and get data working on 3G/HSPA. I don't really think it's that simple, but any feedback would be great!
FWIW, I was on the JPZ modem before I started.
Well, I went ahead and flashed the Tmobile modem, got 0 service, then tried the ATT modem, got 0 service, then flashed back to the JPZ Modem... also didn't work.
Going to try to ODIN...
Well, apparently when I was jacking around with different modems something went haywire and it deleted my stuff from /efs, and the modems were never actually put into /radio. I restored my /efs backup (thank goodness for roto's suggestion to keep 11.5 years ), carrier unlocked again, then pushed the T-mobile modem to the radio folder. Thankfully I found the "Secret Codes" thread and when I went to check my IMEI it was blank, which then clued me to start looking in the /efs folder and then /radio.
Rebooted and I'm back to Edge service... and a noticeably lower number of reception bars. With the JPZ modem I saw 4/4 bars with Edge service while the Tmo modem changes between 0 & 1 bars.
I performed the *#*#2263#*#* (RF Band Selection) secret code and made sure only 850 Mhz GSM and 1900 WCDMA were enabled (since from what I understand that's the frequencies ATT had put into the Tab) and disabled the 1700 & 2100 WCDMA bands since the hardware isn't there.
/Thinking my area might not have 1900 refarming yet, I'm going to take it to work with me tomorrow and see if I see anything different.
Well, clearly switching modems is a bad idea. I tried the Tmo modem, both with specific bands selected and "all." Saw only 1 bar total, and only Edge service- not better than the JPZ modem. I switched to the ATT modem, selecting "all" bands, nothing at all. I finally switched back to the JPZ modem and bam, 4/4 bars- but still only Edge service.
Either the 1900 re-farm hasn't happened in the areas I'm testing, or I can't make this work...

OK, I found the following dialer code:
*#*#197328640#*#*
Going to the Debug Screen -> Basic Info it shows the BAND which is GSM1900!
Now, how in the heck can I get this thing to connect to 3G???
Unless T-Mobile switches their umts/hspa to 850Mhz ( like your at&t) or 2100Mhz, I dont think you can get 3G using non T-Mobile tab.
The 1900 should be only the gsm part.

Thanks for the response. I guess I was assuming my ATT Tab would have the same restrictions an ATT iPhone would (just Edge service until the 1900 Mhz refarm happened on Tmo from ATT spectrum). Also, I was working under the assumption that an ATT Tab would have the same requirements as a Tmo Tab (needing some sort of software switch to go from 2G <-> 3G), or possibly a different modem.
So, after reading some more in the Tmo forums about my Note 2 and realizing the Tmo network has 3G/HSPA on WCDMA. I messed around last night and switched my GTab to WCDMA 1900 (only) and low and behold my data popped up alternating between 3 and H. Tried a speed test and got over 5.8MB download/1.6MB download!
Frigging awesome!

I can't really help you but as far as I know LTE is already unlocked and working on all international S4 Actives. Mine certainly worked perfectly out of the box - although I turned it off promptly because I have ****ty 4G coverage where I live so it was nothing but a battery drain for me.
Are you sure you have a 4G sim card, and that you are in an area where 4G has coverage?
If you go in under settings > connections > more networks > mobile networks > network mode don't you have the LTE option at the top?

Im not 100% but i got the textmessage from my provider, so i recon they only send it to people who are able to use the 4G.
Yes, i am in a 4g coverage area
i dont have the LTE option at the top no. i have:
- wcdma/gsm
- only wcdma
- only gsm

Well then I really have no idea - the only thing I can think of is that you might need to replace your sim card if your provider didn't already do so in advance of the 4G rollout. Hopefully someone with more information might step in here, but the international version is LTE capable out of the box. If you don't hear anything else I'd suggest to try and contact vodafone and get a clear answer from them first.
If you check the mobile networks in your area and don't see anything that supports LTE, you may just live in an area that doesn't have it yet (people get 4G and LTE somewhat mixed up - 4G is the overall identifier for a whole class of technologies with "4th generation cellular networks" basically while LTE is technically one of those technologies so, it should rightfully be classified as 4G in most respects.
Having said that, the only way I got my GS4A to function in LTE mode - meaning it actually shows LTE in the notification bar under the 4 with a small G and LTE underneath it - was to go into the service menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and change the preferred network type to either LTE only or LTE/GSM auto (PRL). Once I did that the radio would reset and connect and then it would be in proper LTE mode. Doing a speedtest with the Speedtest.net app shows LTE as the connection whereas with my standard setting which is WCDMA Preferred (T-Mobile AWS) it'll just show as "4G."
I've had no luck making alterations in the Settings/Mobile Networks section, I have to change it in the service menu to get LTE functional. I don't use it because here in Vegas where I live (specifically my home location) the LTE mode gets me about 1-2 bars of signal (about 8-12Mbps) whereas the WCDMA Preferred setting pulls in 5 bars rock solid and 25-35Mbps.
Can't do screenshots or I'd add them, I'm running the pre-release MI2 ROM presently and that aspect is borked.

I can check my area on the vodafone site. I live in a 4G network area 100%!
i guess my wcdma is sufficient then.. didnt experience speedboost tho..

That would be because you're on the i537 from ATT, rather than the i9295 that this discussion is about. I checked google and vodafone holland does indeed use LTE on the right bands in its brand new rollout, so it isn't that - most likely it's his sim that needs replacing or it's just not activated on his account yet.
I have an unlocked Galaxy S4 active i9295 and I cannot get the 4G or the LTE working since I do not have even the option I only have WCDMA/GSM I travel around the world with this phone and now I am in Ireland on 3 and still I am getting H+ showing and not LTE or 4G. Is there a way to activate 4G or is there any special 4G sims ?
I would check your APN settings, seeing how you are unlocked, the proper APN may not be installed to match your Sim, check with your carrier, to make sure they are 4G and LTE capable and get their settings.

Try ShowServiceMode. It should help to unlock LTE band. It worked for me here in Poland, because local career's LTE was locked by my Russian firmware. But using this program I can only switch between phone calls (GSM/3G) and LTE, they cannot work simultaneously.
Thank you guys. One major thing is that why I can even see the option in the settings? If anyone else has some information please help out.
Thanks
Just a quick question,
I received a galaxy s5 for work today and it is the att version, if I unlock it and use it on tmobile, does it support the same bands as the regular tmobile branded one?? Like LTE and hspa+ 21.
Thanks for all your help ahead of time and tend apologize if this has been posted before, I tried looking for something similar but was not able to find anything.
I have a AT&T Galaxy S5 unlocked. I put my friend's T-Mobile sim card in it and everything worked even LTE without changing anything (APN), it changed automatically. My brother has Claro (by the way I'm in Puerto Rico), with that one I had to change apn's manually to get data working.
I'm freed my AT&T S5 for use on T-Mobile last month and it works just fine. Didn't have to modify any APN settings either as the phone was able to pull it off the T-Mobile SIM.
In all freq's? AWS as well?
SAMSUNG-SM-G900A, with 128gb SD & Rooted.
That's what I'm wondering. I know LTE will work fine. But what about AWS and hspa.
Unlocked Galaxy s5 AT&T Samsung SM N920A on GSM network.
Stock Rom, Unlocked, on Android 7.0 (updated with Odin)
My goal is to see if this phone can indeed be used on CDMA.
Now let me back up.. I hear you. Most phones cannot be used on CDMA if they are GSM.
However if I key in the code *#*#4636#*#* with daler, (which is the Display information about Phone, Battery and Usage statistics)
I get to a menu that allows setting the ''Preferred Network Type''
is this a system setting used by mannufacture for setting the phone for market, and the phone itself simply doesn't have CDMA?
The specs for this phone
lists nfra: 2G GSM, 3G WCDMA, 4G LTE FDD;
Meaning this phone does indeed use both CDMA and GSM network, is this correct?
If so, how do I sucessfully enable it to utalize CDMA connection?
f not, why does the option for CDMA, LTE appear in the menu, along with many others.
I greatly appricate any responce on this topic

I to would love any information reguarding this. Same phone same specs. Was a little new to how the towers and unlocking system for each set of towers was defined when I unwitting traded my Verizon galaxy note 5 for and unlocked note 5. I was told the phone could be used on either set of towers and that it was factory unlocked and not just gsm unlocked. And that factory unlocked meant that it could be used with any carrier on any tower. Believing this to be miss information I had hoped to root the phone and find a root method for using cdma towers. I have being your own pho e service through straight talk so I had to switch my my sim back to and older phone wich not only is less advanced but also currently seems to be unrootable, because there are no gsm towers where where I live so I have no service at home and I'm out a note 5 and can't root my phone wich is a great dissapiontment for me. But when I open my phone it offers to allow me to choose those towers the same as yours. Someone help me stop this madness.
