[Q] Headset jack permanently damaged? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was using my skullcandy headset on my phone and everything was working fine, until I (like an idiot) tried to adjust the headset gain value while the headset was plugged in. Then, I could hear buzzing in my earphones and when I plug it in, it says headset not supported. I tried a clean flash of the ROM to no avail. Then I flashed the Z3 sound files and tried, and it worked for a bit, but the sound was coming from both the headset and the speaker. So assuming it was an issue with the Z3 sound files, I flashed back the Stock sound files for mono. Now, it's not recognizing and headset or headphones(which was previously working when the headset wasn't being recognized) and when I pull it out of the jack, it says headset not recognized. Have I broken my headset jack? I use my phone for music, and this is really important. I'm praying I haven't and that there's a fix. Please help..

I do have an unlocked bootloader. I flashed v15 and it seems to be working with headphones (which don't have an inline mic) haven't tested the headset for fear of losing even headphones functionality. I'll test headset in the evening and if it doesn't work, I'll try a reflash of the kernel.
Is headset functionality also tied to kernel? I thought it was a ROM function. Really appreciate the help

If u are saying the the stereo mod v15, it is a bit buggy
i got left side and right side volume different = =""
this version may messed up with kernel volume control a bit
yeah everything is finally controlled by the kernel actually
Try using pimp my z1 and set value in Headphone analog gain, it fixed the s**t up (for me)
or if u want good and stable music quality, use dreamingonmusic v11z

I'll try the headset, see if it works, if not, reflash stock sound files, see if it works, if not reflash kernel. Thanks for all the help man, really appreciate it, you're awesome!
The problem arose when I tried changing the value on pimp my Z1 while the headset was connected. So I'm not playing with the pimp my Z1 settings anymore. Uninstalled it.

Maybe u should refresh the rom without any mod to test it instead, becoz the "stock mod" may not be able to completely clean off the s**ts

I reflashed the ROM. I'm hoping flashing the kernel fixes it.

Thanks man, narrowed down the issue. My headset is ****ed. The second I connect it, it's ****ing everything up. So that's the culprit. Simple reboot fixes it and I can use headphones.
Thanks so much for your help, unfortunately even a kernel reflash didn't help. I botched something with the headset when I adjusted the output while connected. Thanks a ton for your help and support. This is why I love xda. The power of the community.
Thanks a bunch.

Strange speaker issue

Hi all,
I have a strange issue with one mobo for i9000 and I thought that maybe someone will be able to help with that. I have not been able to find any solution on the forum or anywhere else. The problem is that the speaker generally works - when I change the ringtone or notifications, the sound gets through it, however it does not play any sound when playing multimedia type of sound (so in games, or when changing multimedia volume in settings). When I connect headphones, the sound works ok for multimedia. Does anyone have an idea on what is going on with it? I have never seen such an issue, is there any way o fix it?
Thanks,

Try to change your rom if problem still there then it must be fault in speakers then go to service centre.
It confused me, that you write the speaker sounds normal ...
Are you using BigMEM or something which breaks some kernel-libs for multimedia???

Yeah, the sound gets through it when I select different ringtones, but not when playing multimedia. However when I connect headphones, all is ok.
Currently the phone was wiped clean and installed stock rom using Odin, so I assume if there even were modifications like those you mention, those should be all gone now.
Hmhh strange:
When you are using stock rom and the problem still exists it should be a hardware problem with the speaker maybe with some frequencies???
Because when you use your headphones erverything works okay, so the is produced by the kernel-drivers ...

check if you have any lint /dirt lodged in your headphone slot, try use a needle of tooth pick, when phone is powered off and battery removed.
Check this out! You , YES! you are an " Android ". Not your phone but U.

I will, thanks. I did not realize this may be the issue, since all other sounds go through the speaker. But then if the sound for ringtones goes through speaker regardless of connected headphones, this may be the issue.
I will check and see if this will help, thanks!

Ok so I have managed to trace the problem. It turned out that international version of i9000 has a different sensor/headphone connector than the SC-02B I have. I have ripped off the sensor/headphone module from original leftovers of the screen and connected it to the board and launched the phone. All sound works fine then, no issues whatsoever. Youtube works, ringtones work, even the light sensor works (it did not when I tested it on the international board). So this is it guys. Probably the same problem is with wifi - there are different board connectors and the antenna is not connected, hence low signal.
Thanks for your replies and help, much appreciated!

Please help, sound not working with headphones

So, here's the deal,
The sound works fine when using the speakers, but, when I plug in ANY headphones, while it does recognize them, the sound is so low that, even in a completely silent room I can barely hear anything.
The volume is at Max, I have cleaned the headphone jack many times.
Important information : I started when I flashed a cutom rom. I thought it maybe was a software problem, so I restore the stock rom, but the problem persist.
Please help me guys, Music is my life haha
Thanks in advance!
sounds like a break in the connection of the port...
no easy fix unfortunately, are you sure there isnt anything, lint or anything, maybe jammed down in there?

xperia sp no speaker-earphone-mic working

hey guys, I've got a problem with my xperia sp
I was on vanir 5.1.1 aosp when my phone went to bootloop so I restored back to stock 4.1 firmware(.254)
but I realized that my speaker does not work with musics but it does sound in some places like setting
and also my primary mic and earphone does not work during call
I typed *#*#7378423#*#* in dialer and tried testing speaker-earphone-mic and there was no response
So I installed the app soundabout like it was said in another topic and it shows that bluetooth(MONO) is being used for calls and I dont know what that means!
I tried changing setting through app and now i get sound from speaker and mic is working but whatever i do earphone wont work, and there is another issue, the phone wont recognize my handsfree anymore(stock one and other ones) is continues playing through speaker even when i plug in my handsfree!!
and after changing soundabout settings the sensor which turns sceen off when its close to ear is always on and when my finger is close to it, screen goes off!!!
help me out guys I dont know what happened!!!!

Recently I had a similar issue. My SP always thought headphones are plugged in but actually they are not.
Reflash stock wiping everything.
About that SoundAbout app you better learn how to use it before you modify any setting. For now only check the notification bar whether headphone or loudspeker is used for media output.
Set phone call audio to "Let App Decide"

thanks but I actually did wiped everything with flashtool and flashed the rom, and I did flashed several roms
----
edit: btw, I did that graphite thing but still no luck, how much is needed? what should actually be done?
is it a hardware thing or software?? cause it happened exactly after downgrading from 5.1 to 4.1 stock, I also relocked bootloader and restored TA but no luck.

Dont try graphite method right now. First we need to confirm its a hardware or software issue.
Uninstall and install SoundAbout app and dont make any changes. Then u hit SoundAbout Service and choose ON-With Status and then tell me what u see in the notification panel(in use for media).
P.S. Use thanks button instead of saying thanks.

well I flashed the rom all over again and installed soundabout, there isnt a ON-with status option instead there is on-forground so i chose that the moment the notification came, touch sounds started to work(and walkman plays now through speaker) but handsfree is not detected - mic and earphone still not working
in status it says: Bluetooth (mono) in use for phone call
I actually did the graphite thing! but no luck and also i think it's not even a method cause graphite can even cause damage!

Now i got your problem. It has nothing to do with graphite thing. Graphite method is used for stuck in headset mode.
Some sort of bluetooth device is connected with your phone and ur phone is transferring the mic and earphone control over to that bluetooth device. U turn off bluetooth and check if mic and earphone work. Also check soundabout status and if possible upload the screenshot of notification panel showing the current media status.

Okay...... Okay ur device reporting false positive that Bluetooth device is connected but in reality its not. For now the temporary solution would be set phone call audio to let app decide or earpiece. Note that this could be temporary solution tomorrow i would research in more detail and sort this out once and for all

My version is the latest one v2.6.4. I recommend u to update it.
But anyways u try this.
1.Bluetooth behavious->tick (Mono) microphone override
Probably ur mic will start working.
2.Phone call audio->Earpiece
This would be an universal override to force audio from earpiece.
If possible update ur app coz the setting i said may or may not be available.

Actually it should work. Dont give up.
The actual description of the problem is phone is stuck in headset mode.
Here is how to get graphite from pencil.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AFYtNMweyM
Put the graphite powder in the headphone jack and plug in & out headphones 10x times. Try to put more graphite powder and repeat until your notification panel shows "Phone speaker in use for media" (check attachment).
At last if it didnt work then the only solution left will be replacing the headphone socket.
Good Luck!
Just a little Addition, replacing the headphone socket would be cheap and easy. I had opened my phone yesterday to clean it and this socket was easy to take out.
By the way: There can be a LOT of dust under the protector of your front speaker. Cleaning this has improved the sound while calling quite much!

How to force audio to play with front speaker?

As the title saids. The reason to do so is my phone "thinks" that an earphone is connected, but there's actually no earphone connected. Now all the audio are played with the "earphone that doesn't exist", that means the speaker won't play anything other than alarms.
I searched for solution, and found an app called "headset toggle" on Google Play. It allowed me to play music with the back speaker, but that's useless. What annoys me is that when I receive a phone call, the audio is also played with the "earphone that doesn't exist". I wonder if anyone knows how to force the audio in phone calls to play with front speaker.
Btw I'm using cm12.1, so I do have root. I've also tried flashing different roms, even stock rom to see if it's a software issue, unfortunately it's not.
Also I've found a "front speaker only mod" here but the download link is broken. If anyone have downloaded it before can you share a copy to me?

If i were you should buy earpiece jack i think. Mine was broken too and i live with that broken jack for 1month and ordered a new jack, repaired it and everything is working like charm. Still using it about 7 months and no problem.
Its so cheap on Aliexpress.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I wanted to see if there's any software that allows me to switch between earphone and speaker mode. The phone could still play sounds through earphone after I plug one in, but it thought I still have an earphone connected after I remove the earphone.
Didn't quite understand what's an "earpiece jack" btw. Did you replace the whole earpiece of the phone?

It's a common problem with XSP headphone's socket, and to solve this simply play any sound file then keep plug and unplug the headphone jack till you hear sound from the loud speaker.

Seems like a software issue. Try this app SoundAbout from google store. For me i wasnt getting any sound from earpiece and from back speaker as well. But while playing with the sound settings, i got the sound working on m back speaker. And with a little bit of searching on the net, i found a post where it mentioned to use to check the sound getting redirected to speaker or the earpiece. I checked with the app, and now i can hear from the earpiece as well as from speaker. May be the software or the firmware is corrupted. One of my friend works in the sony center and he told me that first they check it with xperia companion repair option. Else they use different software to erase all and reinstall like the factory. I dont know if it is true but thats why they charge hefty. Anyways try the app SoundAbout, and mess me if it works.

FINALLY!!!!
I could hear the music from my speaker. Thanks a lot. Still, it was showing headset icon in the status bar but no worries now I can change the source from within the app. Thanks for saving me some bucks! :good:
I think there is some problem in our headphone jack bcoz I did a factory reset and changed the ROM twice but still the problem persists. It must be some hardware defect in the jack.
