I used to own an Xperai Sola. Before unlocking the bootloader I didn't know that I had to backup the DRM keys so that I can get back the "Bravia Engine" and "Download music Info option for Walkman" after the bootloader was unlocked. The information that we can backup our DRM keys came 6 months after I unlocked my bootloader.
These are my questions:
On Moto G 2nd gen do we need to backup something similar like the DRM keys of Xperia Sola?
What function do we lose when we unlock the bootloader other than Warranty? Does OS/Android update still work?
Does re-locking bootloader takes the phone back to its previous unlocked state?

2. You can update phone after unlocking bl if you don't make changes to OS i.e. Xposed etc.
If you update even you have made changes to OS your phone will go into Bootloop
3. Yes Re locking and flashing stock firmware takes it to locked state

I´m also with similar doubts. I came from Samsung-way of unlocking bootloader.
Just to ensure if get it right, If I just put root on device, I still be able to update original rom from Motorola ?
It´s a pity we can change anything with xposed (in order to keep upgradable), bcos it´s small things we get used to, and we miss on stock roms...

I guess if you wipe data and unnistall xposed and then flash stock recovery, you will be able to flash via OTA. No need to unroot

1. No you don't need any DRM keys
2. U lose nothing rather than your warranty. Ota works if you don't install custom recovery and change the kernel
3. The new locked state is different than the OEM locked one

If the new locked state is different than the OEM locked one, then if a user wants to unlock the phone a second time, does he follow the same method he used to unlock the first time?
So, once the phone has been unlocked it is not possible to lock the phone to back to its OEM locked state?

Yes you will be able to unlock the device.
And no you cannot get back to the original oem locked state

Just a few questions so I know what I am getting into
1) The phone can be rooted. However, if i want to run on a custom ROM or use mods such as the music mod, I would have to unlock the bootloader, yes?
2) Once the bootloader is unlocked, I would lose the 'Bravia Engine' feature of the phone. What else will I lose? For those who have lost it, is the trade off, of being able to run Custom ROMs and mods while losing the 'Bravia Engine' feature worth it?
3) If I have to send the phone for warranty, I could just re-lock the bootloader and send it back for warranty. Is there a chance somehow that they'll reject the phone if they detected that the phone's bootloader was tempered with?

No clue since mine isn't/can't be unlocked. The only reason for me to unlock the BL (Even though it can't be done) would be, to flash a custom kernel, beside that I don't see any other reasons why I should unlock it.

Once it's unlocked there is no way back.
So if you want to root your phone, use custom roms (without custom kernels) you don't need to unlock the bootloader.

Thank you very much for the reply.
I assumed as such from reading some posts initially, but then I went to the ROM section (If i am not mistaken) and there is a post on how to unlock the bootloader and then there is the Why section where it says that you could then use custom ROMs and mods which then confused me.
If i can use custom roms and mods without unlocking the bootloader, then I'll definitely be getting this phone.
I'll take advantage of this thread to ask one simple question: once we rooted the XZ and flash the Mods we find useful, we no longer get updates from the official Sony firmware in the future, right?

First backup your firmware with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2188129
You can go back at any time to your original firmware and you can have the updates via pcc or sus.

Hi guys I'm considering to purchase the Z1 beocz I lose my precious Xperia S a week ago :crying: (very very sad, really love it)
As I'm those type who will definitely root the device and probably unlock it some time later, I really care about the camera problem.
I read the the DoomLord thread which told us to backup the "TA" thing before unlocking the bootloader, so we can restore it and have the camera working again.
May I ask what the "TA" actually is?? how can I backup that thing??
So after I retore it, is the bootloader still unlocked??
If i screw up the TA thing, can I relock the bootloader and save the camera by the official repair function in Sony Update Service??

Its a partition on the device called trim area.
There is a thread about backing it up and its very easy to do.
If you do not have a TA backup then relocking the bootloader will NOT fix the camera.
Also, do not restore someone elses TA it will hard brick your phone

And after I restore the TA, is the bootloader still unlocked??
I'm wondering if there's possible to keep both bootloader unlocked and the 20mp camera working...

Restoring TA relocks the bootloader
There is no way to have an unlocked bootloader and working stock camera
I'm getting a little confused!
After rooting + custom recovery + custom ROM, can I restore my TA to get the camera back? Obviously would like to keep root and the custom ROM.

Depends on whether the custom ROM requires an unlocked bootloader. Some custom ROMs don't need your bootloader to be unlocked. So that means you can still have root + custom recovery (which don't need unlocked bootloader) + custom ROM, and your bootloader is still unlocked and your camera is still working.
But if the custom ROM requires an unlocked bootloader, then restoring the TA will result in the bootloader being relocked, which means your ROM no longer working.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Basically you can only use roms based on official firmware for now (and have a working camera) afaik. All the roms in the original development area (based on AOSP, custom kernels) required unlocked bootloader and as a result have a non-working camera.

You can't use drm keys from another phone. Plus you need root to backup your keys. And you cannot root z3+ without unlocking the bootloader first. Ive unlocked my bootloader. I have zero issues. Everything works great. What exactly did you do?

Not is my case. I rooted and later I touched "My xperia protection" and the phone didn't respond any more. Later I understood that it was a big mistake. I had to restore my phone with sony companion and now I don't have unlocked my phone and I can't root it , again. And also I lost all my DRM keys, so my camera is a disaster. I'm not sure about if I could restore the original state of the phone, locked but with the posiblity of unlocked again. My rooting status is Unknown.

What are the Steps to go Back to Stock and wipe everything?
Ive read that if the bootloader relock again it is not able to unlock the second time? Is this correct? I want to get the Unlock Code to the person who buy it but if its real, he cant use the code anymore..
anyway is it possible to do the job with the Stock E-Recovery in the current state of my phone? Without bootloader Relocked? Or is it necessary to relock the bootloader again?

Ask the buyer if they want it locked. Personally it wouldn't be worth my time if it couldn't be unlocked again. Better to check first..
If you want to lock (not relock) bl justdownload your adequate firmware from androidhost.ru and flash fw using Usb-otg method.
You can unlock/lock your bl using unlock code anytime you want (provided you haven't changed your mainboard in the meantime).

I thought you wanted to go back to stock. I've already gave you solution to bring back all the way stock.
I m not sure if it's even possible to re-lock bootloader using fastboot when you're on pie.
Bootloader status re-locked still means your warranty is void.

Hey I've tried this otg method but without success
If I try it with the dload folder option and try to force flash the emui updater throws an error.
Even with the dialer code method.. same..
I'm not able to get it to stock.
I've tried the Huawei suite on PC and phone in fastboot mode..same..massage this phone can't be reset or so..
What can I do next?
Current state, halfway working phone that's boot into os 2 times from 10 reboots.

I'm not sure to what extent it can be relocked one day, but Sony phones generally have had a sort of fuse (meaning that even relocking _usually_ does not mean restoring to original state, unless you are able to do TA backups with a hack).
TL;DR: if you really want to resell it as locked, don't unlock it.
