Hello modders,
I am considering buying the Xperia Z because I really like the device and software.
However after my first hands-on experience, I have discovered that the c6603 model, sold by our carrier (T-Mobile CZ), seems to have LTE disabled. Although the service menu does show all the supported LTE bands, when I go to Settings-Mobile networks and try to change the enabled networks, only the following options are available:
- WCDMA only
- GSM only
- WCDMA/GSM mode
The question remains, how this is controlled and what can be done to enable the search and support for LTE networks.
Is this stored somewhere in some carrier settings file? Is it carrier specific, so that with some operators, this is enabled automatically, for others it's disabled? Can we change it somehow?
I am not feeling quite well about these options being disabled per-carrier.
Thanks.
I think flashing unbranded firmware will work for you.

I found in the UK, the option was missing on my UK Phones 4U firmware (350).
I thought it was some mods initially, but after applying the Greece FTF unbranded update (434), i got it back, even whilst running the same mods.
I flashed the UK 434 FTF update, and it's missing again, with the same mods.
These are only stock mods, status bar menu icons, reboot mod.
I will re flash the Greece Unbranded FTF and confirm if it's still missing, if it is not missing, for some reason, the UK unbranded FTF's (350 and 434) have it missing.
I flashed the .434 Nordic ftf and the LTE option is there. It wasn't on the original 3 rom.
I can't notice any difference at all that its a Nordic ftf and not a uk one, so I'll stick with this.
if LTE option is missing, it's only the option concealed but LTE is still there.
the culprit may be /vendor/overlay/com.android.phone-res.apk. try delete it after rooting.
otherwise, just ignore it and dial *#*#4636#*#* to enter what mode and you can see LTE options there.

This is controlled by your vendor's customisation of the ROM, I am guessing if they have removed LTE, then they do not support it. Therefore not sure why you would want to add it back, because you will not be able to use it. Because once your vendor supports LTE, I am certain they will send you out an update.
My phone has LTE, my provider has LTE. But I had no LTE on my phone, until I changed the plan I was on. And I couldn't force that on, because the vendor blocked that.
In addition as stated here any generic ROM should give you the phone/ROM in all it's glory, provided your vendor has LTE
Did you choose the correct setting in mobile network

I bought a Phones4U unbranded XZ a few days ago, with a T-Mob contract, and it DOES have the option, it had on when I was on 350 and it still has it now on 434. Perhaps it's related to the APN settings that the carrier sends you OTA? Obviously T-Mob is part of EE which has 4G so that could have done something.
I don't understand why your XZ doesn't have the settings though.
Are you sure you have the Z supporting LTE? There is a LTE and non LTE version on sale.

This was my next question, is it possible that the UK firmware reads the SIM card first and then 'knows' wether your current network is able to run LTE / 4G, if it's not, it only allows you to select the most appropriate setting, in my case GSM / WCDMA
Im on o2, not 4G, but the option was still selectable on my old Xperia V, and the Greece Unbranded Xperia Z FTF.
Have you tried a non 4G SIM / network in your phone to see if you get the option or not? Or could you...just to rule this out? If it is most likely APN related, then am not fussed, as soon as O2 has 4G, i should be able to utilize it
Cheers

Again only if your provider has locked this part out of the sim card, pretty crap if they did because this can be easily be controlled from within the network. Because when you scan it should show all networks around even ones you can't connect to, if not they have locked certain bands on the sim
Hello,
I live in Belgium but bought an HTC One in the Netherlands because the phone wasn't available in Belgium at that time.
Now, the problem is I can't recieve any 4G and I'm still not on the latest software update.
My guess is that I'm branded to a provider in the Netherlands and that's the reason I don't get 4G nor latest updates.
The company I bought the phone from told me the phones were unbranded so I don't want to complain to them too quickly.
Is there another explanation for this besides having a branded device?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, but I'm almost 100% sure that my device is branded, since I did some research on my firmware number and it turns out it matches to T-Mobile. I guess I'll have to go complain to the company that sold me the phone :s
Hi all,
I have an unlocked Xperia Z1 on unbranded software version 14.2.A.0.290, using it in the UK on a 4G network.
When I try to select LTE/4G in the network mode menu, the only options I have are:
WCDMA only
GSM only
WCDMA (Preferred)/GSM
As far as I can see online, I should have this option, as there shouldn't be a carrier block on unbranded firmware.
If anyone has any suggestions on how I can turn 4G on, I would be eternally grateful!
Thanks!
Update to .136 first and check again.
Hi all,
I have a Z3 Compact and just want to confirm it is capable of VoLTE? I read somewhere it is but cannot find much official information. If somebody could make it clear I would appreciate it.
Regards
http://www.xperiablog.net/specifications/2014-xperias/xperia-z3-compact/ it does
Good, is this supported on a hardware level or via a firmware update. When EE and Three launch their VoLTE service will the phone just support it without additional updates?
Regards,
I do have Z3 Compact with T-Mobile, but there is no VoLTE option
Using Xperia Z3 Compact on T-Mobile USA and trying to find which country will have firmware that has VoLTE option. My phone is from EU/Italy and I have Android 5.0.2 installed, but don't see any option to enable VoLTE. Any one has this option?
Check in /system/etc/customization/modem and you'll see that every firmware contains all modems.
Also, under Software Info in the Service menu it will show which modem is currently loaded.

I just went to Service menu and checked out Software info. It does list GSM/WCDMA/LTE, but how to find out if this phone will have Voice Over LTE? I used T-Mobile branded Z3 for a week and it had an option in "call settings" to put a check mark next to "Enable VoLTE". Once enabled, the signal stayed on LTE network instead of switching to 4G when making a call. The call itself connected faster and the quality was good. Right now even when I am on LTE and make a call, the signal drops down to 4G for the duration of the call, then after that goes back to LTE signal. I know Xperia Z3 phones support this feature on a hardware level, even white pages for Z3 Compact mentions VoLTE, but I can't find the setting. I read somewhere in UK, 2 carriers like EE, going to enable VoLTE in the near future, so I thought one of the UK firmware would have that enabled by then.
As far as I know VoLTE is carrier dependent. Actually maybe few around the world test this service even tough many phones are hardware ready for new standard. You can see the list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VoLTE. Please let us know if you find out more.

Interesting... Do you know if device from T-Mobile Germany is locked or unlocked? My device is unlocked and if I flash it with T-Mobile DE, would it lock the device?
I found this firmware on Xperifirm and it seems to be latest available. Is this the one you mentioned?
Device: Xperia Z3 Compact (D5803)
CDA: 1289-4143
Market: Germany
Operator: Telekom.de DE
Network: GLOBAL-LTE
Release: 23.2.A.0.278 / R11C
Size: 1.49 GB
Yes this is the firmware, I use.
You can remove most of the bloatware.
My device is locked.
I really don't now, if flashing this firmware will lock your device. I never used Flashtool.

I am trying to find out on another thread if flashing locked firmware on unlocked device, what happens. So I will know soon, but I heard that flashing firmware doesn't change SIM Lock, so if it was locked, it will still be locked and vise versa.
I have 2 questions:
1) Is the VoLTE option is in settings>call options and then it says "Enable VoLTE"?
2) Do you also have Wifi Calling?
Thanks
Sorry, I don't have SIM lock. I thought you meant a locked Bootloader.
Flashing another firmware doesn't effect SIM lock.
Yes, it is in settings - > calls
No Wifi calls.
BTW:
O2 Germany will activate VoLTE in the next days on all devices, which support this feature.
So I think, O2 Germany firmware should also have this option in settings - > calls

Thanks for the info! I have flashed my phone with few different firmware: UK, Generic DE and yours Telekom DE. I don't have that option. I checked everywhere... Looks like I may also need to have Telekom sim card and adjust some carrier settings. If nothing helps, I will flash back to original firmware and wait for some other solution.
Maybe this option is hidden, and only shown if your provider supports VoLTE.
Two of my colleagues have also a Z3c. One with Generic DE and O2 Germany SIM card and one with UK firmware, I don't now his provider.
I'll have a look into their settings.

T-Mobile USA has VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling features. All the phones that are T-Moible branded have these features. That is why I was trying to flash your firmware Looks like not only firmware and hardware support plays a role, but also something that carrier has to enable support for Xperia Z3 Compact. My carrier has Xperia Z3 regular and it has VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling, but the phone is too big for me.
Hi I found the post today about features that Android 5.1 will bring and looks like VoLTE might be one of them. http://www.geek.com/android/heres-what-changed-in-android-5-1-lollipop-1617837/
So can you tell me if this firm worked for z3c?
If so what's the link to download it with installation instructions

Hi all
I have read online that the Xperia 1 ii will be available on Vodafone and via carphonewarehouse in the UK, but have seen nothing relating to preorders there?
Is it that there are no preorders via these outlets and o2 has exclusivity on the preorder bonus?
The better value will always be O2 anyway with the refresh trick, but just seems odd that the phone officially goes on sale on Thursday next week and only o2 have offered up preorder slots?
The Xperia 1 II is exclusive to O2 at the moment. Not sure when other networks will get it.
I'm with Vodafone as I get the 15% discount and can't find anything about this phone coming to Vodafone. Hope it available in August when it's time for me to upgrade
It's on the Vodafone UK website now.
Could someone with the Xperia 1 II from Vodafone UK please tell me Customization Version of the firmware that came with the phone? I ask because I want to get Vodafone VoLTE working on my O2-provided phone, but the only Vodafone firmware on XperiFirm right now is 1321-8394 which is described as "Vodafone LC Net Locked" and I'm a bit worried about the "Net Locked" bit and don't know what that means.
You can find your Customization Version by opening the service menu by dialling:
*#*#SERVICE#*#*
Then Service info -> Software info -> Customization Version
Thanks

I got the information off someone on Reddit. Phones bought directly from Vodafone in the UK ship with the 1321-8394 "Vodafone LC Net Locked" firmware. We suspect this firmware is locked to work only with a Vodafone SIM so don't recommend it. If in the UK, you're better off with the 1321-7192 "Customized UK" firmware, as on this firmware VoLTE and WiFi calling both work on Vodafone UK and the other UK networks too.
Has anyone else noticed that after the 58.0.A.3.88 update that Vodafone UK WiFi-Calling no longer works on the Customized UK firmware?
I have the UK customised firmware to move me away from O2 ROM,
I had the new update rolled out automatically this morning.
WiFi calling didn't seem to work initially but then some app auto ran and said something like 'Downloading IME data" I clicked it and let it complete and is said vodafone WiFi calling updated or some sort of similar message.
Seems to be working fine now, I have a VF business sim installed.

OK, just was in an area there with poor mobile signal and WiFi calling is working fine. Thing is the #*#*4636#*#* menu shows that Wifi Calling not provisioned, and there is no longer an option to turn it on or off in the network settings. However, when you need it WiFi calling is still working fine and IMS status then shows Voice over WiFi: Available.
