Could someone that has the Note 4 and used the new sim:
go into Settings, about device, status and see if your phone number shows up in the "My Phone number" field for your sim.
I used the new sim but mine is showing "unknown" yet everything works.
Hi,
I used my old Sim card for 2 days and yesterday put the new one in and activated it on the t-mobile website and my phone number shows.

That's what I was afraid of. guess I'll have to give them a call.
Quick question, how come you guys changed to a new sim?
I did because they included it in the box so I figured there might have been a reason.
Mine is also unknown. Is this bad?
You two guys that have unknown... Does wifi calling work?
Yes it works fine.

Every once in a while I would notice, when I unlocked my phone, it would say "Emergency Calls Only" as if I didn't have a SIM card in.
Everything would still work after that such as text messages and calls, so I just figured it was a weird issue with Cyanogen 6 RC1.
Starting today, I was getting that message every single time, and also a notification that I couldn't register on T-Mobile's network.
I got on T-Mobile's live chat help, and they said there's nothing wrong with the service in my area. The person also had me tell him the SIM card number to ensure they had the right one in their system, which they did.
After this, I figured it might still be because I'm running CM RC1 so I upgraded to RC3 and I"m still having the same issue.
T-Mobile's "my account" program is no longer set up, so I don't get the notification, but I still get the emergency calls message on the lock screen.
Also, I AM connected to the T-Mobile network, but it just won't recognize my phone.
I was wondering if anyone else had any insight...
Which radio are you using? Has it done this since upgrading from stock rom?
Yes I just had this similar issue yesterday and I'm on at&t. Also, everything on my N1 is stock.

I had the froyo radio but then I flashed the new Korean radio and it didn't help.
I did, however, pull out the old trusty G1 to have a working phone again. But when I started it up, it reported not having a sim card. Im going to go to tombile tomorrow to get them to test it. I'll report back in case someone else has the same issue.

You might try cleaning the SIM card contacts, they might be the culprit.
I went to T-Mobile and he confirmed it was the sim card. Actually he said it was fairly common for them to go bad. No charge and I'm working 100% now. Thanks!

I have not in my life seen a dead SIM card, it was a month ago that somebody was asking around the forums what and why. I was shocked
And T-Mobile says it's common.. lol wut?
Maybe the Nexus One eats them lol

I have one sim that I wish to use for phones / text messages, and one that I wish to use for mobile data.
If I put either sim in on its own, it works fine.
If I put both in together, and set them so they are both on, the one that I wish to use for phone calls and texts does not register on its network (which is Three in the UK)
I am not sure what to do. Can the phone company have set it so it doesn't work in a dual sim setting?
Or have I just failed to understand what dual sim is?
Any help much appreciated!

Try interchanging the SIM, I mean just enter the right one on the left and the left one on the right. What you are saying shouldn't happen.
If possible try another 2 SIM to see if the problem is with the SIM or the phone.

OK thanks. I have tried it with another 2 sims and it works fine. So that means it's a faulty sim?
Is it possible the network won't allow dual sim, or should I just request a replacement?
Thanks

Before requesting a replacement just ask the network operator of that particular SIM that if they disallow Dual-SIM or not. If they don't allow using their SIM on a dula-sim mobile asking for a replacement would be pointless.
I am using 3 (UK) and Vodafone, no issues, so likely the sim

I was previously using my Nexus 5 on T-Mobile. I just got my Nano Sim today and deactivated the Micro-Sim in the Nexus 5. I inserted the Nano-Sim in Nexus 6 AFTER I setup the phone (because I wanted all the apps and settings to be done first before inserting the SIM).
Under Settings > About Phone > Status......it's showing "My Phone Number" as "Unknown"
This causes some annoyance with apps like WhatsApp, Hangouts, Viber....they don't know what my operator number is so I have to tell it manually. Mainly Hangouts is an issue now because when I use the "Smart Reply" for SMS settings, it defaults to the google voice number all the time. I confirmed the TMobile and GVoice number in Hangouts yet it always wants to use the GVoice number.
Tmobile tried sending an OTA for the SIM to update but that didn't work....
Anyone else having this issue?
Yes mine says unknown as well.
How long has it been?. Its taken me up to a few hours before it showed the correct number in "about" settings screen

It's been about 4+ hours...I was hoping the TMo rep that issued the SIM OTA would solve it but I guess not...

Haha yeah plenty of times. Also tried turning off phone, removing SIM, reinserting, and rebooting. No luck...
I guess it's not that big of an issue but I heard some apps like Tap a Talk or whatever need to have a verified phone number within the SIM to work so I can foresee issues down the line....

Hah. Maybe it'll show for you tonight I'd give it couple more hours maybe
It can take up to 48 hours for the system to change everything over. Keep in mind this usually happens within 12-24. Give your phone a reboot in the morning and in all likelihood, it'll have transferred over.
Mine was like that but I got it activated with T-Mobile and In 10 minutes my number showed up.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
This varies but like mentioned above it can take up to 48hrs for the information to show up.
It's been 24+ hours and still no phone number showing. This is starting to cause all sorts of issues. I can't send group messages in Hangouts because it doesn't know what the phone number is so the option for "Group Messaging" under SMS settings in hangouts doesn't appear.
I plugged the SIM into iPhone as I heard you can have an iPhone program the number to the SIM memory but when I did that, the iPhone picked up the number off the SIM just fine. This is clearly an issue with Android now and not T-Mobile.
Unbelievable this kinda **** still happens after all these years....
Solution: For those wondering. It still did not show after 36+ hours. I had to put my SIM into an iPhone and program my number on to the SIM that way. This solved issues with Hangouts such as not being able to send Group SMS properly, etc. This is def a bug with Android because the iPhone read my SIM just fine. Android should be able to program SIM memory, not sure why they don't allow that...
I still have an unknown phone # in settings. I don't have another device that takes a nano Sim. What other options do I have to fix this? Do I need to take it to a store?

Go to http://www.t-mobile.com/sim, log into your account and enter the new SIM number or call 877-234-4299. I updated my SIM info online when I got my nano SIM in anticipation to getting the N6 and my N5 (with the new SIM card in a Sadapter adapter) was up within 10 minutes -- this occurred on a Sunday morning around 6:30AM.
im using my SGN4 in a brazilian carrier, and everything was working perfectly till from nowhere the phone lost connection from network.
I was unable to make phone calls , but strangely my 4g connection was on i could browse on the web normally. How this is possible? I popped out the sim card and tried in another phone, it worked normally. I also tried another carrier on SGN4, i was ok too. Anyone have an idea what is going on?
factory reset, problem persists, i have data connection, but cant make phone calls.
Is the phone unlocked. Yes I have to ask.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Yes it is as I told I was using it with my Brazilian SIM card
Is their anyway to check if it still unlocked. I know some people said when they unlocked it was a temp unlock. Did you check APN to make sure they set right for that carrier
BAD ASS NOTE 4
hey guys, im back to this post because the problem persists.
Here is the scenario:
I bought the phone from a Swappa Seller. Phone is t-mobile branded and was in the box, Brand new.
http://swappa.com/listing/ZPB505/view
Brand New Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910T White ( UNLOCKED) 32GB
Phone is brand new in its original box. The phone has never been used. All Accessories are still sealed in plastic - The phone model is SM-N910T. This is a great deal on a BRAND new - NEVER USED phone!
This phone is guaranteed to work with AT&T. There is no regional lock whatsoever

Can anybody tell me why a T-mobile unlocked phone won't work with T-mobile?
I used the phone on my carrier and it was flawless. Everything was fine till suddenly i lost phone signal. It always show "NO SERVICE" message now, but strangely I still have 4G Connection. I can use the phone to navigate, not to make phone calls.
So I swapped carriers, and the phone was working ok, phone calls, data connection.... then the thing happened again: no service, but i have 4g LTE connection.
Inserted a third sim card, from another carrier. Phone is fine, workin as it should! But this is not my main sim card and i would like it very much to work with ANY carrier. Do you guys have any idea what the problem is? Factory reset did not work at all. For the others sim cards, it recognize the network for a second and then "no service". How can i have data connection if there is "no service"?
Im really desperate because i payed a lot for this note 4... Maybe if i root the phone and flash another ROM?
help please!
Is that possible that previous owner reported is lost and now imei is blocked? Your carrier may participate in that program.

thank you im going to check with my carrier.
* BUMP *
Sorry to revive this old thread, but has anybody figured this out?
I too have data with No Service (no voice) when roaming to the USA from Mexico (Telcel). My Note 4 was purchased on T-Mobile USA (contract free) but got it unlocked by gsmunlockers.
Everything was perfect until I got my Note 4 upgraded to 5.1.1 rooted. I have tried several other ROMS and Basebands with no avail.
Any ideas?
Cheers!
Having my Nexus 6 for almost a month. Things working perfectly in the starting(or after reset), but after two or three days, No incoming calls, no outgoing calls. No mobile data. Cant realy tell it as a mobile sometimes. Wifi is working good always. After reset, it is working properly for two or three days. Whenever it is not working, I am able to see a !-mark near the tower bar.
My mobile always connected to 4G when no wifi.
No Custom ROMS and no root. Plain Android given by google.
Anyone having this issue. Any suggestion?
Go get a new SIM.

I was begining to think i was the only one who had this problem!
Yesterday morning i woke up and to my suprise my signal bar had a (!) it it but it was still displaying my regual signal level.
I switched my wifi of and i couldnt get a data connection just the (!) sign. I got my girlfreind to give me a ring and see if a
call would go through which it didnt it just said that i was unavalible. I then desided that a reboot might sort the problem
but when i my phone booted back up i was presented with the holow triangle signal icon to say that i had to signal. I then
popped my simacard out thinking it could have just been a bit of dust on it. I gave it a little bit of a dust of and popped it back
into my phone and i was given the same no signal and emergency calls only yet it was picking up that there was a simcard inserted.
The day before i had flashed the alpha version of PA so my next thought was that this would be a ROM bug and went ahead and
flashed chroma which i was using prior to PA and i had had no issues with. Held my fingers crossed as it booted up but much to my
dismay i was greated with the same no signal problem but i went into the settings and searched for networks. Three was one of
the network it had picke dup so i tryed to reconnect to it but i got the toast to tell me i couldnt connectto the network and to
try again later. I checked the APN settings and it had automatically grabbed threes APN from the sim card so at this stage i was
completly baffled by them problem.
My next move was to try my sim in my girlfreinds phone and what do you know it worked a charm. As a last shot to check everything
was okay and i was upto date on my bills etc i gave three a ring and they told me there was nothing wrong with my sim and everything
was working as it should be and that it was a problem with my phone.
That brings me to the point i am at now completly baffled as to the problem and slightly angry at the 2 week old phone that had been working
perfectly up until now has suddnely desided to stop with no warning.
So you are not the only one and i expect their are more of us. I am going to flash the offical stock rom from google and see if that does the
trick but im not holding up much hope i feel like im going to have to contact google and find out where the problem lies.

i reverted back to complete stock using the image from there site to no luck so i relocked the bootloader and took it back to the carphonewarehouse and they straight swapped it for a new one which is working perfectly
My sim died after a month. My calling went out and then only lte worked no 3g. Got card replaced and it works perfect now. I have US Cellular.
I've posted this in few other threads also, but I had also problem where I only had tgt exclamation mark no matter what I did. I solved the problem by waiting like 5sec before inputting my pin-code. If I input my pin code too fast after a boot, it will open my phone, but won't give me cellural network. This seems to happen in every ROM I've tried
Hi,
Solved the issue. Working fine after enabling request for SIM Pin and set my sim pin.
Usually i disable sim pin lock to have uninterrupted boot. But with ROM this is not working.
Enabling SIM pin request solves the issue.
Is this problem with carrier or Android L?

I have not seen this issue on three devices I've owned with Lollipop. So it appears to be a carrier issue?
