What can I do about a system update that will not install and won't go away...
Carlito's Way
I just downloaded berryboot and installed android 4.4 kitkat on my raspberry pi 2. I got access to android system image on my sdcard via ubuntu. is there a way to mount that image, so I can take a gapps kitkat zip and extracted its contents into the system image so that way I can access the playstore.
What exactly does this option do when booting into TWRP for the first time?
And as a follow up question, if I don't do it how does it limit me in the future with regards to flashing ROMs?
Anyone?
Official statement:
System read only option: Devices that ship with 5.0 and higher as their initial OS are using block level OTA updates. With this style of OTA update, the update script checks to see if the system partition has ever been mounted read/write. Further, the script also usually runs an SHA sum of the entire system partition to detect if any changes have been made. If any changes have been made, the OTA update will refuse to install. Since not all OEMs and devices have factory images available, we have created a new feature in TWRP that detects if the system partition has ever been mounted read/write. If not, you will be prompted asking if you want TWRP to mount system as read/write. If you choose not to allow TWRP to mount as read/write, TWRP won’t prompt to install SuperSU and TWRP won’t try to patch the stock ROM to prevent TWRP from being replaced by stock recovery. The goal of this option is to hopefully allow the user to make a raw system image backup that they can use to get back to a state where they can take OTA updates again.

I don't care about OTA so I always allow modifications.
Have a look at the TWRP thread for OP3/3T: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/development/recovery-official-twrp-oneplus-3-3t-t3543391

Thanks, I've simply turned off system updates with TitaniumBackup after root, i guess allowing modifications is a cleaner way of dealing with it.
Cheers!
After updating to the latest build 4/23 using system update open delta and installing from twrp, I got system ui crashes after system boot! Anyone who can help me with this?
My bad! It's my fault. I did not check the mount system in twrp. It's okay now. BTW, about open Delta again, when I downloaded the latest update the one downloaded from open Delta is the entire rom update, or it's just the update files from the previous week like in stock updates? And when it enters twrp it's just install the entire rom no other options to mount system or wipe cache? Is this really the correct way to update using open delta? I'm new with open delta so forgive me with all these questions coz I got system ui crashes after installing the entire rom update using open delta and forget to nandroid backup coz I'm assuming that open delta is error free. Thanks...

Im still getting system UI crashes after installing the latest incremental update 4/30 using opendelta system update. I tried manual updating using TWRP with system mounted and restoring data, still system UI crashes. What's wrong with this?
Here is the logcat thru adb:

Hello
I rooted my Moto G5 with Magisk.
Magisk 20.1 and Magisk Manager 7.4.0 installed.
My phone is running Android 7.0, so A/B updates are not supported.
Now I want to install the packet sniffer program: tcpdump
From searching around all but one guide I read spoke about installing tcpdump into /system/xbin/
This involves mounting the system partition as read/write and this would stop me from getting OTA updates right?
So my questions are:
1. Is it ok to install tcpdump outside the system folder? Like on the sd card?
2. Is my only choice to install in System then loose out on OTA updates... if I want to get them back I'll have to re-flash stock firmware?
Cheers,
Flex
