I'm rooted and have the newest update.
I am using a Sandisk 32GB memory card that I used in my Note 3 for the last year with no issues.
Every once in while, the Note 4 shows that the Sandisk card was removed without being unmounted.. and then after 30-60 seconds, remounts itself. It has done this now 3x today. Once while laying on a table untouched and once while I was using the camera to take pictures. I checked and the card is totally seated properly.
One thing I did notice.. when I went to install the newest update with Kies, it told me to unmount the SD card... and I clicked unmount a few times, and it wouldn't unmount.. So I had to shut down the Note and take out the card while it was off.
Has this happened to anyone? Any ideas how to fix this?
Try cleaning the contacts on your card with a pencil eraser.
I've seen that on my old GS3, be very careful, few weeks later I started getting errors on SD card and then SD card no longer worked with complete loss of data. One card I was able to revive after full format, nothing could be done with the second one. I suspected either something wasn't connecting properly inside or some software issue, I also suspect that the card gets corrupted, when unmounting happens during write cycle and if phone updates headers or directory entries when this error happens, that's when you loose the whole card. I never had this happen on my Note3, hate to see this coming back on Note 4.

Argh.. that sounds horrible. I will do a full backup of my card tomorrow just in case (Titanium backup, SMS backup, etc). Thanks
Yeah I'm actually getting this too. It would just randomly unmount and remount when the card is being used. I thought ibfixed it by checking for errors but it came back lol. Hope a real fix is found soon.
Ps - was using a 64gb SanDisk on my note 2 for a year no problem.
More than likely, the SD card is going bad. You better backup asap!
These are precisely the signs of the card before it kicks the bucket. I've owned several SanDisk cards and never again will I go with them. As I've mentioned before on these forums SanDisk cards are very weak in its integrity and are no longer of decent quality. The problems you're facing is proof of that.
Go with a Samsung card. The Pro series. It's the best you're going to get. Lexar is good too, but pricey.
Most pro photographers will say SanDisk is the "yugo" of sd cards.

My only real question is, why it's happening right as I swap it to the new Note 4? I am very careful with my devices, and i did not even touch the gold connection part. Bummer
I had this problem until I formatted it using the note 4. So I'll wait and see.
Try samsung sd card evo.

Yup, just came back to report this. I was like f it, im just gonna format. After formatting, all issues are now gone. I will report back if it does return.
ps - i did do the test on it afterwards by taking like 30 pictures and browsing them in the gallery. Prior to the format, it would always unmount 100%. Now it browses with no issues.

Don't know if you guys checked out the SD card thread but we mentioned this . For me and some others Samsung devices don't play well with SanDisk cards. I burned through 3 of them on my note 2 with the same issues you guys have. Back up now! Because those cards will die soon. You can Google it Samsung and SanDisk card errors and you will find many many threads. This time around I learned and got a Samsung evo 64gb for about $39 on Amazon. Just a heads up.

I read the thread you mentioned, but this same Sandisk SD card worked perfectly fine in my old Note 2, so maybe it's a recent issue of the newer phones. that were released after Note 2. I got a Samsung Pro 64GB for about 10 dollar more on Amazon.

It's so weird they work for a while then die. All I know is I'm going to avoid SanDisk cards in Samsung phones at least.
rofl, so my co-worker had gotten a free 32 GB Samsung sd card from samsung with his new S5. I told him lets do a switch with my 64 GB Sandisk Class 10. We tested it to make sure it works fine on his phone and of-course it does. The samsung card is also quite a bit faster than the Sandisk I gave him. We both did a bench. Its a win win in my books lol.
I've had several micro sd cards faulter on me, resulting in unrecoverable data and every one of them were SanDisk. I'm staying away from SanDisk like the Ebola virus!

Hey guys,
I've been having a great deal of trouble with my cheap Transcend 8gb class 6 card . . . spontaneous unmounts, lots of finicky behavior all around. Having the apps on the SD means the phone crashes, and the app permissions get borked to hell.
I've heard these are not very good cards (you get what you pay for in this case) and are known to have problems with the G1 . . . or the G1 is known to have problems with them. Either way, perhaps some of you can help me:
-Are the Transcends indeed "problem cards?"
-Has anyone had one, gotten fed up with the crashing, replaced it, and is in good working order?
-If that's the case, what are some known good cards I can get to replace it?
Thanks!
they are not problematic, they are just not compatible enough! Every device has issues with every other sd card no matter what. I been buying sd cards and I have had problems with these since the day they were born.
In my opinion, transcend are one of the more compatible sd cards. Funny thing is I use a sandisk on my phone and I always had issues with sandisks before on other devices.
First things first, Transcend are by no means a 'cheap brand'. They actually make some of the more expensive memory cards you can buy, and they are very good. My memory card is a Transcend, an 8GB Class 6 like yours.
The difference is that my one has never failed me. It's actually very fast. Furthermore, Transcend are known for making good memory cards. Maybe you just got unlucky with your one.
I ordered the A-Data class 6 to replace my class 4 sandisk based off raving reviews. I havent read much for negative reviews on the A-Data lineup, even though they are a smaller company
I had a transcend 8gb class 6 card that failed completely (can't even access from a PC). When it failed, and due to my apps to sc and other changes, my phone wouldn't boot without a card. I had to install the 128 mb card once I got home and re-update from scratch. When the transcend card worked, it was fast. I've used other cards of theirs in my cameras for a while now, and they've been very good. But this failure caused a bit of a headache for me. I'm at the point where if I see any problems with my sd card, I'll simply replace it to avoid worse problems. Wouldn't have helped in this case as I saw no signs before hand. If it means much, I'd try another transcend card again.
Sorry, didn't mean to bash Transcend undeservedly. So maybe it's just an issue particular to their cards and the G1?
Thread moved to Dream Q&A, please post in the correct place; not dev related.
i went through 2 4gb class 6 adata cards that wouldn't work at all after i partitioned them. phone would bootloop regardless of rom. it worked great if i left all fat32....very strange.
orange that should be a good card. if you have any way to put it into your computer and try to format it, via a usb conector ect. then give that a go. other wise it could be the rom your on, what type of rom are you using or is it stock?
Don't base your purchase decision on the Class classification. Sandisk's Class 2 cards have known to have stellar performances under ATTO.

Cyanogen Mod. Latest (4.2.12.2) but I've had this problem in previous versions. A friend's G1 has experienced similar problems with the same Transcend 8gb card, and I vaguely recall hearing warnings against using that brand w/ the G1, but perhaps I'm mistaken.
For now, I've deleted the EXT and swap partitions from the card and did a wipe so that all apps are running from internal memory. I haven't noticed any unmounts today, but last night the phone was unusable and this same sort of thing has happened before with the same card in both my original G1, and the warranty replacement (the warranty replacement was for an unrelated issue).
Its been a week since Ive been desperately searching with no luck!!!!!!!
I just baought a kingston 32gb class 6 micro sdhc but when ever i put it in my hd2 it just freezes up and as soon as I remove the card it works fine again. At first i though that it was a fake so I:
1)performed multiple tests,
2)reformated a 1000 times,
3)even putting 20gb of data just to make sure.
Turns out that it is authentic and it works perfectly on my girlfriend's htc BalckStone it also worked when I installed NAND (which i later removed due to insufficient memory).Ive been searching for weeks, I think its a windows mobile issue, any tips??
HD2 freezing with microsd
I have the exact same problem.
HD2 + 32Gb Kingston micro SD card (bought from ebay)
Freezes on card insertion. Unfreezes when card is removed.
Found any solution?
Do a google search for SD Formatter.
Try reformatting using that program.
Also, when you're reformatting, don't use the phone, use an external card reader or adapter.

If you ahve bought a 32GB SD card from ebay there is a very high probability that you have bought a FAKE 32 gb card.
If it was cheap its 100% a fake card.
These fake card are actually 1/2/4/8/16GB card but have been modded to report 32GB, some of them you can use but data will get corrupted as soon as you get near the real capacity. Some will just not work from the offset.
Stick your card into your pc via reader/adapter and run it through a drive scanning software and see if its got any bad sectors you will soon know if its fake or not.
The same issue with my 16gb microsdhc. On my friends Samsung Galaxy S it works, on microsd carder it works. But not on my HD2.
I had scanned my microsd with few scanners all of them shown that my SD is in perfect condition.
What about formating? What program should I use? And what formating options should be(file system and etc.)

I red somewhere says that HD2 are compatible with 32GB SDHC class 2 only..

Is there any hot fix for the HTC HD2 to solve this problem?
The card is Kingston 32g class 4.

Oh, yes it is. At least mostly true, if not even absolutely true.
I've been using a class 2 32 GB Sandisk micro SDHC card for a year now on my HD, and it will go into my Leo as soon as I get it. Absolutely no problem at all, of course.
It's also the one to use on the HD7 to get the maximum available storage memory.
It was quite expensive when I bought it, but it never bothered me, neither did the Sandisk Compact Flash cards I'm using with my goo old Canon EOS 350D camera.
Some Kingston memory card seem to have compatibility issues with some devices (I'm thinking about EeePCs, too, as it's a very frequently reported problem), but it may be essentially related to higher speeds, as those cards drain too much current. The symptoms are exactly the same : the device will sometimes boot when mains powered, but will crash as soon as you disconnect the mains plug, and won't boot at all from battery power.
The HD2 (and HD7, as it's exactly the same hardware) is known for not loving too much current consuming memory cards, so you'd be wise to stick to class 2 only, as it's supposed to be what HTC recommends.
If you still want to use class 4 or 6 cards... Then don't complain if it doesn't work.
And no, it is not "absolutely true". While the HD2 may not r/w any faster no matter the card, any class will work just fine.

Easy. I always first format my cards using a card adapter and a windows machine.
I know for a fact that class 6 microsdhc 32GBs work. It's what I have in my phone now. I also use a 32gb class 2.
I'm using a Kingston card. I've formatted, the computer sees a mass storage device with 30.2 gb available. However it locks the phone up in the boot sequence. Any Ideas?

What program did you use to format it?
One recommended app, outside of the built-in windows app, is SD Formatter:
http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/
(Link leads to the SD Association, of which I have no affiliation.)
If you have a card adapter, format it there instead of while inside the phone. Good luck
You suggestion is right.
Correctly formatting the card first generally solves most of the problems.
However, most high class micro SDHC cards will probably drain too much current from the phone. You have to find a really serious brand, and a really good one.
I've tried the posted formatting tool. Is there a setting or something I'm missing? After an hour of formatting, nothing, same problem.
I put the card in a 3 year old blackberry curve I had before the HD2, and no problem. I then put an 8gb class 6 card I had in that same blackberry into my HD2 and it worked fine.
I'm trying not to have to return this card because I don't want to wait another week and a half for back shipping etc.. Please give me some hope
My Korean Motoroli seems to be having big problems with the SDcard recently. Originally I had the factory-issued no-name 8gig class 4 in it and now I have some other no-name brand 16gig class 8 in it, but the problems still remain.
The phone will either "loose" many photos when I use the camera (not writing them to the card) or will even sometimes go to a black screen and then just reboot. Sometimes it even just simply hard-locks the phone requiring me to pull the battery.
What recommended bands/class of sdcard would fix this? Or is the problem something else?

Can I ask which ROM you are using? What sort of modifications youve done to the phone? I myself use the stock class 2 8GB and have never had many problems. Since you have the problem on multiple SDcards, it seems like a hardware problem. Bit if you are using a customROM, maybe somethings messing up there. More information would be helpful.

Card type and class has much to do with camera quality and also video too.
Surprised there isn't more talk about this issue with all the sdcard issues we have. With HD recording and an 8mpxl camera it seems we need a better class card, I need to get a couple for my phones and I am trying to find the best buy on a samsung. My question for anyone who has experience is if I spend the money on a class 10 samsung, is it going to make a big noticeable difference? Will it stop a lot of the issues or is the issue more related to Android and even more so with XT720? Is there anyone who has upgraded who can answer? Seems it will but I would hate to spend the money and not get much improvement.

I am currently using a Samsung Class 10 16GB card that I ordered somewhere online. My main Issue always was with transferring media and this card tackles the problem with ease, I do not get black screen problems anymore. The camera seemed ok with no major differences that I noticed, but usual camera freezes have reduced. Overall I would suggest an upgrade.

Hi maruki, does it fix your sd card problem. I am also experiencing sd card problem when taking photographs or any activity that will require writing to sd card. (Downloading, etc) I am also suspecting it is a sd card issue and hoping the problem is not on our device. I also plan to buy new one since I am using the stock mem card that comes with the unit. I want to know if it worked for you.
by the way, setting the camera to lower resolution seems to fix the sd card writing failure in my case.
there is new type of sd card, UHS-1 which seem to to deliver a very high speed and write, topping any current sd card in market now as decribed here: http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/05/samsung-ultra-high-speed-microsd/
maybe when it's available I'll purchased one, also the best thing is that it can be used for swap ram to fix xt720 low ram problem. do you think so?
but I'm also not sure if these uhs-1 cards are compatible with xt 720 or not. If anyone plans to buy one when it's available please review after that i'll also do a review when I get one.

hope one of these methods works for you; never heard of the freezer method..
I've been using 32s, personally. I think the 64s are more temperamental on these phones. But I would like to go bigger.

The freezer buys you enough time to get your files.
I once almost literally had a gun to my head to get contracts back. We threw the hard drive in the freezer and put it back into the cpu long enough to get the contracts.
Same idea with the SD cards.
I have had the same problem with 2 64gb microsdxc cards. Strontium 64gb 533x and lexar 64gb 300x. Woke up to error sd card has been removed unexpectedly. I got two replacements from lexar but same problem. Then decided to go for Samsung 64gb pro. It's working fine for the past one month. I think it's more of a quality issue. I have used Samsung 32gb sdhc card for over 5 years before I decided to switch to 64gb.
I've had my Samsung 64gb for maybe 6 months with 0 issues. Prior had a sandisk 64gb that never worked right. Always had weird problems.
It didn't just stop, it first had unbearably slow write and read speeds. Music would stutter and doing backups to the SD card to ages. Then I copied all my stuff ASAP and 2 days later it failed completely.
This Samsung card is a beast.

I read the feedback after I purchased it that it's incompatible with LG devices.
It works fine with Samsung Tab Pro and Xperia Z Ultra, but G4 cannot use this memory. It's either not show up or suddenly unmounted.
Let us know if you find a 128GB that your VS986 is happy with.
I use the 64GB version of that exact PNY card in another phone without any issues for several weeks months now., then bought a Samsung 128GB because I needed a larger card.
I am actually using a Lexar 128gb in my h815 no problems at all. Also have a second one in my v500 which works fine too. No unmounting problems at all.

Sony's firmware has a own sd card knowing system. I have used my Xperia Z1 for 2 years, whenever I plug a new sd card it was offering me format it or it was scanning almost 5 minutes.
I suggest you format it first ExFat then format it FAT32 in windows. After you plug in the phone format it in settings- storage-format sdcard.
If your sdcard is not broken or it had not harware problem, above instructions will fix all problems...

Have a question on my SD card in my LG G4. Not having any problems but thought someone here may know. Using a sandisk 64 gig and when looking at in ES file explorer or the stock explorer instead of it showing up as ext sdcard like all my other phones it shows up named 4C5e-5C17.
Any reason for this? Attached a screenshot. It's working fine just not what I am used to seeing.

I know a few people who use 64GB and 128GB microSDs from PNY for some time now. No issues so far. Chances are that some of them were fake. Happens everywhere. I bought a dozen of 32GB and 64GB of Samsung microSDs respectively. Two of the 32GB ones and four of the 64GB ones turned out to be obvious fake and surely enough, didn't work after a few write cycles. Also the colors didn't match, some didn't even had the S/N printed on the back. Wasn't even bough on some weird internet marketplace. I bought the from a legitimate local store in bulk.

For that very same reason https://www.raymond.cc/blog/test-an...b-flash-drives-bought-from-ebay-with-h2testw/
I now run h2testw on all storage devices I buy, no matter the source.
Now this card works 100% with C5 ultra.
I had issues with the first one that I had, but Amazon sent me a replacement and it has been fine.

Were you able to read the files from the SD card using your PC to save them? Is the phone unable to format the SD card?
You might want to give this a try for formatting in PC: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/index.html
I'm using pny 128 card on my Verizon phone no problems so far

1. Try formatting in the phone or another device without microSD adapter.
2. Try a different microSD adapter with PC for formatting and confirm write protect switch is off.
3. If one and two fail, return to seller or RMA to PNY.
Backup up data firstly, of course .

...or use a stand alone dedicated micro SD reader.
I also tried the PNY 128gbyte sd card (it was on sale). My G4 just spit it out no matter what I tried. Also an older 32 gbyte Kingston one.
What ony seems to be working is a high tier version, like the Sandisk extreme (90 MB/s)
The 128gb PNY works fine in my Note 10.1 2014 though
Nexus 4 & 7 (root), Note 10.1 2014 (root), LG G4 H815 (stock)
I'm using a Sandisk 128 GB card with no problems. FYI.
