Is there a way to "overtake a stream" if i for example want to change the volume.
Ex.
I start a stream on my PC and sit in my sofa and want to change the volume with my phone is this possible ?
With any phone with an ir receiver you can I.e galaxy s4/5/note etc
If you open the same app and hit the cast button it will take over control of the cast.

Everything is connected properly. No notice of an HDMI cable to the phone. It is not rooted.
My phone is Milestone XT720, Android 2.1.
Try going to your gallery viewer and then to menu and you should have a button to display on tv. There might be some options in market to display all the time, but I really have no idea.

Try a different hdmi port on the tv. If that doesnt work, try a different tv. If that doesnt work, it could be a bad cable.
The gallery works, thanks, but I want to watch movies with RockPlayer.
try real hdmi
not sure if it works on milestone but its worth a shot
http://www.appbrain.com/app/real-hdmi/com.gmanapps.realhdmi
EDIT:never mind seems to be droid x only
Rock Player doesnt output to hdmi.
Real HDMI not install for me, I'll wait until update 2.2 and will try then. Thank you.
Moved to Milestone Forum, as it has nothing to do with Android Programming

You can get your homescreen to
Appear on Tv by the following trick
Launch Gallery apps (not media gallery)
Play a short hd video (recorded with your xt720)
Select display on tv
Wait for video to finish
This will display the gallery.
Press back button
Your homescreen will be displayed on tv
The only limitation is that your xt720 lcd screen will be stuck in video control mode and your have to guess where to touch the screen!

Thanks, but...
Launch Gallery apps (not media gallery)
Play a short hd video (recorded with your xt720)
Select display on tv
Wait for video to finish
Display gallery show for a second and leave a TV screen immediately. Not stuck ... I tried several times. : (
Once i select DISPLAY ON TV show comes to incoming calls, whether to receive or NO, YES his election, whether this prolem?
I usually select YES for incoming call. Are you definitely using the Gallery app as it does not work in Media Gallery app?
Maybe try a different video, that sometimes help.
Also what software version are you on. I am using a uk xt720 with s/w
Ver str_u2_01_1e.0

Yes, I tried both, same result. : (
Version is the same - str_u2_01_1e.0
I just try few minutes ago. Needed few attempts to get this trick working. Not very reliable!!!
Best to have gallery in landscape mode and play at least 10 seconds of 720p video.
Also I checked rock player app and unfortunately it does not play full screen. Only youtube and default player seem to play full screen.otherwise you get only the 854x480 resolution which is only a fraction of your tv screen.
Sent from my Milestone XT720 using XDA App
Alright, thank you. After all, the pictures of the screen didn't stuck, after the video the tv just turn off. I will wait for update 2.2
Thanks again
I think the video player application has to support "Display on Tv" to get full screen. Hopefully there will be an app for that in the future

I realize this is a dumb question but I haven't been able to find the answer. If I install Android on a Raspberry Pi attached to my TV, how do I control it? Is there a way to use a regular remote control?
There is always the wireless Keyboard and Mouse option.
I believe you can also use multi-touch touchpads such as Wacom Bamboo.

Thanks for the reply.I was hoping to use a media center remote or something similar, but I assume none of the drivers will work.
If you want to control your RPi using a remote I wouldn't install Android (The current builds aren't that stable and are buggy at best). I would recommend taking a look at Raspbmc, it's Xbmc for the RPi and should be compatible with a variety of media remote controls.

You can Use a Normal Mouse (And Keyboard)
Xbmc isn't really what I'm looking for. If a keyboard and mouse work, maybe someone will figure out how to use a remote.
When android is more polished I think you will have options

What are you looking for then? Since you want to drive it using an IR remote (I'm guessing), that typically indicates some sort of media center.

I run Windows Media Center on all my tv's with the Ceton Companion app to control it. Currently the app does not support streaming live tv but it is supposed to be in the works. When it finally supports streaming to android, I could build a small raspberry pi box and use it as an extender when I'm out of town. If nothing else I would finally have an excuse to buy one.

this is something like what I want, too. I would ultimately like to have an HTPC running android that supports video streaming, local media playback, live tv and streaming of everything above to all my connected devices.....like xbmc, but also with an option to use it as an android device when necessary. I don't want to have to use a mouse and keyboard for it either since my tv is too far away from the couch for that to be a reasonable option.....but mouse and kb support are still necessary for some things. IMHO, the best possible option would be a logitech remote that also has an on-screen pointer and motion controls like a wii remote has.
......come to think of it, an app supporting a wii remote to control android functions wouldn't exactly be a bad solution!!
you can use raspbmc instead of android if you are willing to use it as media center. it also has broader possibilities for choosing a remote.
http://www.raspbmc.com/wiki/user/configuring-remotes/
but i prefer this one most
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.android.remote
enjoy !
I use a regular remote from my tv when i use raspmbc since it supports cec. The xbmc remote most people use through their Android device is specific for xbmc, so it wouldnt do much good with anything else. Droidmote isnt the prettiest but its functions well. Theres a lot of apps for remotes, that even take advantage of voice and nfc. So when Android is running stable enough, you will be able to take your pic. If your not interested in embedded hardware or other similar usages for the pi, you could always get a g box midnight or minix neo g4 or 5. There all dual core and come rooted with firmware updates that will give you JB and xbmc. There is a quad core one that is out or coming out and will come with JB and full hardware acceleration.

In raspbmc u can use u tv pilot to control xbmc.

You can also use Tablet Remote

or LANmote

Yatse is a damn good remote for xbmc, it syncs your library list to your device, so you can scroll on device, links to imdb for movies, you can change audio tracks,dl subtitles, and all sorts of cool stuff. And it's free

You can already stream to your ras pi from windows or wherever, I like prefer my tablet or phone. Download the app bubbleupnp from the playstore and it will populate a library of videos, music whatever you have on the device by selecting it as the local renderer and it will see the raspi then press play. Also some android apps like youtube for ex.you can just share it to the app and it will play on your tv connected to the pi. If I want a remote I use the official xmbc remote or if im using a win box to get the media ill use unified remote app. Which then gets cool cause you can use voice and all kinds of stuff.

Most of new smartphones have a Hdmi output, MHL conector or DLNA TV link, but we have in our Optimus Black WiFi Direct.I have found inretesting video which confrims that steaming to HMDI via WiFi Direct is possible. So we can see the same in TV sceen and in our display.

Maybe there is also another posiblities to steam via Wifi. Please tell me yours opinions.
Personally I have HTPC running Openelec. Using i.e. BubbleUPNP it is easy to stream to phone or back to the HTPC ( both ways ) . There are many Android apps capable to communicate with Openelec or XBMC based machine.
Cheapest and fun way to accoplish that task is to use Raspberry Pi as DLNA server.
I had no possibility to check but any DLNA capable TV should work with propper android app installed on P970.
I found application MirrorOp. So can stream my screen view to computer. But via wifi is slow down.

Was thinking about picking up some sale movies from the Google Play store now that we have the ability to show on the big screen via Chromecast. In the store, it says that HD is available for Android devices, and SD is available for the web. Does anyone know what format Chromecast will play back? Thanks

YouTube forces the highest quality possible if you cast from a phone, however, through the chrome browser on a desktop you can adjust the quality. I imagine it works the same way. Netflix pushes HD if available.

Google Play Movies plays in HD when cast from a Android device. I've never tried casting it from the web.

When I use Youtube to send a playlist of trailers to my "TV" (it's actually a front projector), I get an onscreen message at the head of every trailer that contains a Youtube logo, the name of the trailer as well as download count info. I really don't want this extraneous info appearing on the screen at all. Don't know if it's being generated by the app or by the Chromecast hardware. Can anyone guess as to how this crap can be turned off. Believe it or not, this "feature" is a deal breaker for me. I'm using this in a home theater ... and I want to have as close to a cinema experience as is possible. I just want the trailers to play one after another like they do in a theater ... with out all the notices..

There's no way to change this yet at all. Maybe after Google releases the sdk but doubtful this will be something they will allow us to change...I understand what you're trying to do but a "deal breaker" really?

That was my concern too. Needless to say it was hd. I got this tv show free when i got my chromecast. (just appeared in my play movies app.

The picture quality on my chromecast was just awesome. My tv stayed at 1080p. I like the chromecast because i can buy movies and tv shows and bill them to my phone. until now i would hookup my laptop via hdmi but it was just 420p.
I think you'll be happy.
On my LG SmartTV there is a feature where I can push a button while watching a youtube video on my HTC One and it will show up on the TV...on my other older LG TV, which has a HTPC connected, I'd like to be able to do this as well...is there an app for windows that will work with that youtube button for push this to tv?
Or some standard app that everyone uses instead of youtube...kinda new to having such a feature filled device
Cheers
