Contact pictures - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have no Facebook or google+ , a friend sent me a text and his picture auto applied to his name in my contacts automatically. I've tried to duplicate it using my picture on my contact name of myself and tried auto applying the pic to a friend's contact list with my name but pic empty. Anyone know how this is done. The person who's pic was applied to my contact of them automatically doesn't know how they did it. I have 80 contacts and never seen this before. BTW note 4 rocks!!!!!!!!

It's more than likely a picture associated with his Google account and you've received an email from him before. It will automatically load his Google picture into your contacts if his email is in your contact listing for him.

[Q] facebook not syncing correctly with contacts.

I am running CyanogenMod-6.0.0-N1 and trying to use facebook sync to sync up contact pics with the contacts in my phone. but only some of the contacts are not syncing up.
I have names set as first name then last name and facebook will connect them to the correct persons facebook but will not download that persons profile picture to set as caller ID pic. (but couple random names have synced up and the pics show up)
what could I be doing wrong? or whats the error?
Did you try to manually join them then use their facebook picture as the profile picture?
cant manually join them when they are automatically joined. but yes i tried unjoining then rejoining them.
fix that seems to work right now is to log out of facebook app and log back in. seems to be working so far.

Email attachment??

Cannot see any email attachments when receiving photos etc...I see the paper clip icon but no where to view and no option to download...any ideas?
Just tap the paper clip for it to download
Tried, just takes me to mail subject page..
I can
I just opened and excel Spreadsheet no problem. It works like previous WINMO phones- tap the attachment to download and them tap to view.
What format is the pic in? Are u sure it's a picture and not a video?
I copied a picture and pasted it into HTML format email.
Sent it to GMAIL and to my EXCHANGE account.
GMAIL won't download the full picture but does give reference where it came from.
EXCHANGE downloaded the picture perfectly fine. Along with the referencing link from the properties of the picture.
I have Gmail account only, I can see attachment icon in inbox list, but when I click attachment it opens message..is it because of Gmail?
I copy and pasted a photo into a new Gmail message, and sent it back to me and it displayed on my phone just fine.
Same when I sent an e-mail from Gmail to my Hotmail account. Displayed on the phone just fine.
just tried myself, You are correct it does work, the image in question was sent from someone with an Iphone..maybe it attaches images different way?

Well I just sent a photo with my iPod Touch to my Gmail account, checked it on my phone, and it appears as an attachment right under the "To: My Name" here. I just tap it, it downloads, and I can view it.
Thanks anyway.
iPhone pictures not getting downloaded
You are right. I was thinking about the same thing.
I was sent a few emails with pictures of their kid from an iPhone. I did get the email and it does show that there are 2 attachments. But when I tap on the attachments, the link just disappears and the email content is blank. Where as the same email, when I check in my Gmail account, I see the pictures in the body of the mail.
I tested the attachments issue by sending myself a jpeg file, and it downloaded just fine. So, I am not getting the pictures sent via iPhone (to my gmail account).
Can anyone check this?
when pics are to small it happens.. my friend sent me small resolution pics and i couldn't see them email shows the attachments but when click nothing happens.. i tried big pics and works perfectly
Been reports the gmail app has attachment download issues. I tested it again and no go on the download this time. Forwarded the same email to my exhange and it worked fine. Wait for gmail update.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
same here pics sent from iphone no luck

[Q] Damaged link between Facebook contacts and joined contacts?

Hey all,
I updated my phone to 2.3.3 via Samsung Kies and did a factory reset.
So, I synced my contacts from Facebook via adding the SNS account, everything worked fine but I needed to add phone numbers to some of the contacts. Considering you can't edit Facebook contacts, I ended up creating a new contact to phone with the number and the name exactly the same and then using the 'Join Contact' to merge them.
The problem #1:
When I click new message, I can click the 'contacts' button and everyone with numbers are listed. I go to an untouched Facebook contact (With a number assigned to it automatically from Facebook) and click add but it still has an empty field saying 'to'. If I add one of my merged contacts, the number is displayed and it works fine.
#2
When a Facebook contact text messages me, only their number shows up, like its an unknown number which mean I have no idea who it is even though I have them as a contact. I go to that persons contact profile and the number that is assigned to them is identical, so why doesn't it show the contacts name?
If I go to the contact and swipe my finger to the left so it 'messages' them, in the 'To' field is their number only, no contact name.
Last but not least, no contact pictures show up in my Messages, even though they have Facebook pictures assigned to the contact
Can anyone help at all or at least point me in the right direction to solving this myth?
Thanks a lot everyone for helping me.

[Q] Motorola Connect Extension (Contacts Q)

Does anyone else that use Motorola Connect and the chrome extension to text from PC have some contacts showing up with photo and name whereas others have no photo and just the number, even when they're in your contacts? My contacts sync with Google, of course, and some messages in the extension look great - have the person's name and photo that I have in Google Contacts. Others though just show up with the phone number and no name, and no contact photo. Any word on this? Is it just buggy or something that can be done so that any one who texts me that's also in my contacts also show the name and contact photo?

[Q] Conflict between Google and Facebook profile pictures?

I continue to have the problem where the Facebook profile pictures for all of my linked contacts in my Favorite group, which also happen to be the default group of the People widget on my home screen, keep disappearing like the user has no picture. It seems that anytime I link a contact with both Facebook and Google accounts, the Google picture overrides the Facebook picture, which for the ones that keep disappearing look to have no Google picture. Then when I go into any setting on my phone that is supposed to show a Facebook profile picture, it is blank, but when I go directly into the Facebook app, their picture shows! I've now also noticed that my Google+ profile picture is blank, when it used to show up in Contacts and on the drop down setting menu User Card.
I can't count how many times I've hard reset, but every time, eventually, the pictures start to disappear and it is random and not always the same people. I'm using the stock OS on the Verizon network. As you can see from the images, the photos that don't sync hop around. Sometimes I see everyones, sometimes no ones, but almost always there is someone's picture that doesn't show up.
Facebook 1 shows the picture of a contact missing.
Facebook 2 shows that person's picture, but a different person's picture is missing. As you can see from the timestamp, they are 2 hours apart.
Facebook 3 is the Linked Contact information for the user that can't be seen in #2.
Facebook 4 is when I go to tag that person from a photo and post to Facebook, and you can see that everyone's pictures show up.

FB sync has been an issue on android for a long time ever since Google removed the code for syncing with FB du to their privacy policies. I have heard of a few apps that force the sync but in the end as a Google OS I have a feeling google will always over ride it.
I have had similar issues and finally gave up trying to solve them and downloaded sync.me from the market. Works perfectly and now I don't have to worry about it.
