Really Samsung? (things I wish would be more like the S4)

The S5 is a damn good phone, and overall I am happy with it, but after having an S4 for the last year, and the S4 having KitKat for the last few months, there were little things that I became used to... little things that Samsung seems to have discarded in KitKat for the S5. So, I figured I'd create a list of things that seem to be missing or different (in a negative way) from the S4...
The full app list only offers Custom Grid or Alphabetical Grid, Alphabetical List is gone
With a pin to unlock, and a screen timeout shorter than the lock time, the screen always returns to a swipe to unlock after timeout. Super annoying while reading something when SmartStay doesn't work properly (screen times out, you have to hit power, then swipe)
KitKat on the S4 offered an option to automatically lock when you turned off the display with the power button, but not if the screen timed out... these are now combined in to one option
TouchWiz folders display 3 icons across instead of 4
I'll add to this as I find other things, but I'd also like others to add their own list of S5 annoyances.
1. That option to arrange alphabetically is still there...

Go the the all apps view

View as
Options are: "Custom" or "Alphabetical order" (both are grids, not lists) ... no "Alphabetical list"

Settings > Sound and Display > Lock screen > Lock Automatically, and select how long it takes for the lock screen to kick in. Default is 5 seconds but I chose 30 seconds.
Hope this helps.

Thanks... but, on the S4 under Settings > My Device > Lock screen, there is both a "Lock automatically" timeout selection, and a "Lock instantly with power key" checkbox option. This means that I could set a 30 second screen timeout, a 3 minute lock timeout, but still force my phone to instantly lock by pressing the power key instead of waiting for the 3 minute lock timeout. On the S5, the options under Settings > Sound and Display > Lock screen > "Secured lock time" only provide timeouts (15s, 30s, 1m, 3m, 5m, 10m) and "Instantly with the power key or when the screen times out". The "Instantly" option is a combination of what used to be two separate options on the S4.

Maybe there is a difference between our phones, because my S5 has both the 'Lock Automatically' timeout selection and the 'Lock Instantly with Power Key' options. Check out the screenshot to see what I mean. Did you get any updates? What provider do you have? I'm on Sprint.
Mine has Lock instantly with the power key too. I miss the menu haRd button....

AT&T (SM-G900A) S5, running build# KOT49H.G900AUCU1ANCE)... so, maybe I need to shake my fist at AT&T for this one.
Add Desk Clock to the list. I know my old S4 cradle will not work with the S5, but when I travel I manually enable the Desk Clock mode on my S4.

I just looked at the AT&T S5 owners manual, and it list a temperature and humidity sensor... pages 18-19 in the manual. Is Sprint missing this feature?

I'm pretty sure that's an issue with Kit Kat trying to standardize the formatting of menus across the various apps. My point is that the menu hard button is still there, you just have to press and hold to get to it now.
hello.
it seems that this options are related to the way you want to unlock.
Security:
Glissement (wipe) : no autolock + no instant lock with...
Modèle (pattern) : autolock after... + instant lock with...
Empreinte (finger) : autolock after... + instant lock with...
Pin Code : autolock after... + instant lock with...
Password : autolock after... + instant lock with...
My phone: XXU1ANC9
is it possible (as on my s2) to have the "wiping animation" and then, after having wiped, a pin to insert ?
I wish you could put widgets on the lock screen. I like to display my next calender even on the lock screen.

Disable swipe down gesture in Android ROM?

Hi XDA!
I'm running _null on my Galaxy Gear and enabled the Full SystemUI. I'd like to use the notification drawer, but pulling it down is a gamble because of the 'swipe down to back' gesture of the Gear.
Is there any way to disable it?
Thanks!
Kenny

If you slide at the corners you don't trigger the gesture, it's easy to get used to.

Damn, thanks, that helps a lot.
I'd still like to disable this completely since I use Pie controls anyway. But this helps me out a lot already - thanks!

How do you disable multi window on the S6?

As you can see I did search this topic...can't even find an answer on google. Which worries me...
Often, I'll swipe down from the notification bar which turns the app I'm viewing, if capable, into a multi window view. This is incredibly annoying. Coming from the Note 4, there was a quick toggle (or in settings) to turn this off. I can not seem to find how to turn this function off with the S6. Any help out there?
I was just going to post the same question How the hell do you turn off that annoying multi view crap?
I wanna know this as well and how do I turn off the lightof the back and the cent button also?

I mean the back button and recent button, it lights up as soon as you touch the screen, there was an option to turn this off in S5.

I do have root...so this will take remove the multi window? Considering we just got twrp I may just wait for a custom ROM lol
I found the new MultiWindow gesture pretty annoying. On my S6 every time I swept down on the notification bar using one hand I'd always create a floating window. On other Galaxy devices there is a Quick Toggle to turn the MultiWindow feature off/on. The ability to control the feature is still in the S6 however it is not exposed in the user interface. I wrote a small application that can either enable/disable MultiWindow or bring back the MultiWindow Quick Toggle. It was primarily written for the Galaxy S6 however it should work on most of the devices that include Samsung's MultiWindow. Look for "MultiWindow Toggle for Samsung" on the Play Store.

Hello and thanks for your answer. No my Note 8 was not rooted but it got a shortcut in shortcut panel for screenshot. Impossible to find it on my new Note 9
It could have been some app you had installed that added it
Don’t know if this is what you had set up on your Note 8, but there is a screenshot option in the assistant menu that you can set up in the Accessibility section of settings. Go to Settings>Accessibility>Dexterity and Interaction>Assistant Menu - turn the menu on and click for options, one of which is Screenshots. It works great!
Hope that helps!

I think it has been mentioned, without root, go to advanced settings
Enable palm swipe to capture.
Then when you want a screenshot simply swipe from left to right across whole height of screen.

Hello good alternative thanks a lot. But it's not exactly the same result that the native one. When you make a screenshot you don't have the native option

No. I had transferred my settings from note8 to note9 and had a few app pair shortcuts on the home screen. I uninstalled an app and reinstalled it and when I wanted to create app pair shortcut for it on the home screen the option was not there. The only option now is to create a shortcut on the edge screen. There used to be a menu in note8 when you tapped on the center of the split screen and there was a home button on it. If you clicked on it, it created the shortcut on the home screen. That menu is not there anymore. I just noticed it as I haven't used it since I had note8.
See the home button on the menu in the pic. That menu is not there anymore.

So it looks like it was an option on the Note 8, but not an option on the Note 9.

Is this something that could be accomplished with Tasker?
