Hi all,
First I must point out I'm a bit of a noob at this flashing kernels/roms etc. I want to install Jelly Bean Mini Project | Android 4.1.2 on my xperia x8.
I rooted it ages ago with superoneclick. I got the rom here in the download section of this post and got the kernel here. Not sure how to proceed do i unzip the rom folder called "X8_JBMP-Release4"? I need a tutorial on what programs to use etc. step by step would be handy. I did look did look am continuing to look. Thanks in advance and sorry.
first of all you have installed nAa's jb kernel right?
---------- Post added at 06:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:21 PM ----------
if not, download Flashtool from here
then do the following steps
1. go here and find the "Flashing custom kernel" step
2. Flash the kernel, beforehand, be sure to have the proper drivers installed, go to the flashtool directory, drivers, execute the .exe file then choose drivers for x8, fastboot and flashmode
3. You are ready to flash a kernel, just follow the instructions on the thread I pointed out to you
4. No need to unzip the ROM file as it is a flashable zip, after flashing the kernel power up your device and click the back button a couple of times
5. You are now in the CWM recovery, go to mounts and storage and select: format /system, /data, /cache and then back to the CWM main menu, select Wipe data/factory reset, Wipe cache partition, and to the advanced option, wipe dalvik cache
6. Now you have just performed a full wipe, go to install zip from sd card, find the ROM zip file you just downloaded and install it
7. Then install the GAPPS needed to work with JBMP
8. Reboot and Enjoy
op didn't mention if
a. he already has recovery installed
b. if his bl is unlocked
Just because i don't doesn't mean i can't.

titanium backup is good. you can also enter cwm and make a backup there. otherwise, follow mass's instructions. don't forget to format system cache data in cwm after flashing kernel and before flashing rom. have fun with jb.

I was wondering about unlocking this phone from the network it is on. Should I get the code and do it first of will I still be able to do it if I wish after the upgrade. Sorry for the noob questions. Thanks for all the other help I have an idea of what to do now.
Sucess!!
Thanks a million guys got it up and running jellybean. First flash of kernel was just sticking on CWM recovery screen no buttons working. flashed back to a stock 2.1 (rom not my original one) and flashed the new kernel again and all went fine. Thank you so much for all this help and thanks to the folks who worked in the release of jellybean. I just need to figure out how to store apps on sd card. time for research.
Option to move apps to sd card is Greyed out in settings/apps section. Any ideas how i might get my apps to move to sd card?
U can odex to get more space..find it in android development, made by TeamMex..

try a clean flash. i'm on 4.1 and i cam move apps fine. though i don't use the native app2sd.
Just because i don't doesn't mean i can't.
Will a reflash do it? do I need to flash back to a stock rom first? Or is there something I need to do to let a2sd work like give it a partition somehow?

just format system cache amd data after a full wipe (wipe cache amd dalvik too) and reflash rom.
Just because i don't doesn't mean i can't.
Thanks for the reply. I will try it in a couple of days as I'm busy with work and will post back here with the result.
moving apps
I booted into CWM recovery and used the advanced section to create a 1gb partition left swap size setting at 0 and that fixed the issue. I guess if I wasnt a noob I would have made a partition on the card in the beginning. Apps can now be moved except those that dont allow movement but I am using link2sd for those. Its cool to see jellybean on this phone. I get quite a few hangs/crashes using the browser, bluetooth earpiece connects fine but I cant hear calls on it and the countdown timer is erratic closing by itself quite often. Maybe there are some settings I need to tweak to get the best performance? Thanks again for all the help and replies by the way.
This is a guide of how to dualboot KitKat and Android Lollipop on a Nexus 5. This will allow you to test out Lollipop while keeping a stable ROM to run as a daily driver. I am running CM11, but you can do this with any KitKat ROM, even stock.
REQUIREMENTS
Nexus 5
Root
Unlocked bootloader
MultiROM
A brain
At least 1 GB of free space (I recommend 4 GB though)
1. Setting up.
I'm assuming you are already rooted if you are planning on doing this. If not, follow this guide to root and unlock the bootloader. http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/orig-development/nexus-5-cf-auto-root-t2507211
1. After verifying you have root on your phone, download MultiROM Manager off Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tassadar.multirommgr&hl=en
2. Install and open MultiROM Manager and install MultiROM, Recovery and the patched kernel.
Here is what the following is...
MultiROM: This boots before the system and gives you the option of what system you want to boot. When you select the system, it then hands it off to boot. This will not overwrite your current ROM, but make a backup to be safe
Recovery: This is a custom TWRP recovery with options to install a secondary system
Kernel: This will patch your kernel with kexec-hardboot patch which is requires to dualboot in general.
2. Installing Android Lollipop
1. After you install and verify that MultiROM is installed on your phone, download the Android 5.0 flashable zip from the downloads section at the bottom
2. Reboot into the recovery and go to Advanced> MultiROM> Add ROM
3. When you get there, set ROM type to Android and select "Dont share" for kernel sharing and then press next
4. select ZIP file and install "N5_L_PREV_LPX13D.zip" you downloaded earlier and flash it.
If you wish to not root L, you can go ahead and reboot your phone into Lollipop (The first boot will take several minutes). If you do want to root, go on to the next step. Your primary ROM won't be touched as your primary ROM and its root status won't be affected when using MultiROM.
3. Rooting Android Lollipop (optional)
Rooting is completely optional and is not required for it to run. You need to install root if you do plan on using root apps or busybox on Android 5.0.
As of the LPX13D build, there have been changes made in the bootloader that will prevent SuperSU or root from working. If you want to root on the LPX13D build, you will need to flash this bootloader: http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/2jkx7a/
1. Download the SuperSU zip in the downloads section and save it to your phone.
2. Boot into recovery and go to Advanced> MultiROM> List ROMs and select the L ROM you installed earlier (unless you renamed the zip file or the system name, it should show"N5_L_PREV_LPX13D")
3. Select flash zip and flash the SuperSU zip you downloaded.
4. Reboot and you should now be rooted.
Updating Android Lollipop
As of right now, there are issues if you try to do a dirty flash from DP1 to DP2 (These are issues with Android L and not MultiROM). These issues include home button not working, quick settings pulldown not working, no lockscreen when there is one and data issues (at least with Sprint). If you are coming from LPV79 and updating to LPV81C or LPX13D, it is recommended to do a clean install to avoid these issues. If you are doing a fresh install, you don't have to worry about this issue
Android Lollipop Bugs
These are issues with Android Lollipop and not MultiROM
-The issues stated above when certain things don't work after a dirty flash
-During the inatial setup, the phone may freeze and require reboot when trying to connect to wifi (seems like a new bug with LPV81C). The phone will say Connecting and show a white box before it freezes
-Some apps will crash or be buggy (this is to be expected though with the transition to ART)
-More bug reports can be found [Here]
-A list of apps that have issues with working with Android L can be found [Here]

Strange. I didn't have that problem but I will look in to it. I recommend going to advanced> MultiROM> list ROMs and perform a wipe of the cache and dalvik of your L system. Yeah, you need a kernel that has that patch included to be able to use MultiROM. There are a few of them if you look around.

There have read people in the Android L thread that have had this same issue. That's why I always thought dual booting with Android L wasn't a good idea.
Got some help from the multirom thread.. Followed the below and it worked fine. Had to reinstall Android L afterwards tho.
1. Install terminal from play store in Android L ROM.
2. In terminal: "su" *enter*
3. In terminal: "restorecon -FR /data/media/0" *enter*
4. Wait.*
5. Reboot.
*If it doesn't boot anymore, delete Android L as ROM, and flash it again trough multirom.

Q&A for [EXP][DEV] Lollipop for Xperia Z
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [EXP][DEV] Lollipop for Xperia Z. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Good start
Had no problems installing via fastboot. Very nice and smooth, but needs some google play sevice files, so to test properly. Unable to call out - APN settings look okay, but signal icon on status bar has exclamation mark (?). SOme sort of recovery would be invaluable.
My Q&A: not definitive, but hopefully this will ease question duplication
I've decided to update this post to be an informal Q&A-link-list in the desperate hope that people will come across it before asking the same questions again and again. Look here to see if your question has already been answered. If you think something needs to be added to this post, then post it in thread.
INFO CURRENT AS OF ~1AM UTC 13 Nov 2014.
There are two versions of the Xperia Z Lollipop rom: one by thomas, and one by pabx. Installation instructions differ in places between the two, as do the prerequisites. I will list note when they are different.
How do I install?
Prerequisites:
An unlocked bootloader. If not unlocked, see 'Bootloader unlocking' below
The fastboot and adb command line tools. For more on them, see 'Adb and Fastboot' below
Additional prerequisites for thomas's version if you want gapps or SuperSU:
A kernel including a recovery: I suggest HodorKernel
The SuperSU update package
A Gapps package (such as these ones suggested a while back by @_infected). If you find these gapps don't work for you, but find others that do, then post in the thread so this can be updated.
If you have the prerequisites, then you can continue. Note that installation will wipe your phone completely, including the internal SD.
PABX's version: downloads and installation instructions can be found here.
Thomas's version: see this post.
Regarding Root
Pabx's build doesn't support root. If you need root, use Thomas's build.
Regarding recovery
Thomas's build doesn't include a recovery. Pabx's includes CWM recovery.
If you need a recovery on thomas's, you'll need to temporarily flash a boot image which includes a recovery. That would be the HodorKernel I suggested earlier.
To temporarily add a recovery to Thomas's build, take the following steps:
Enter fastboot by unplugging the USB, powering the device off, and holding the up volume button when plugging in a USB cable connected to your PC. The light on your phone will turn red, then blue. When it is blue, your phone is in fastboot mode.
On your PC, extract the HodorKernel zip file, and locate the boot.img
Flash the boot.img using the following command: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Unplug the USB cable
Press the power button
When the indicator light on your phone turns on, press the volume-down button repeatedly. You will eventually enter recovery. For some reason, you may need to touch the screen (rather than the power button) to actually turn the screen on once the recovery has loaded
Do what you need to do with the recovery (e.g. flash, etc)
Power off the device (I believe the option is in the 'reboot' menu)
Go back into fastboot (i.e. hold up volume, plug in, etc)
Flash the original boot.img from thomas's rom
Unplug USB
Boot
Bootloader unlocking
Unlocking your bootloader allows you to install unofficial ROMs on your Xperia Z. See here for how to unlock. Read the warnings.
this adb tutorial and this guide to fastboot. You can download these tools for Mac here and Windows here. If you're having problems with Windows, particularly Windows 8, look here.
If the links don't work, go find links that do and post them here. I can then update these links.
This isn't the fastboot or adb Q&A thread. If you don't understand how to use fastboot and adb, this isn't the place to ask. XDA is scattered with more guides than I can point a pointy thing at for fastboot and adb.
Post-original post:
EDIT: Don't use the GApps I've mentioned. They kind of work, but are pretty flakey for the XZ.
EDIT 2: PABX has posted a new build, but more importantly also some GAPPS. (http://www.blinkenlights.ch/ccms/android/yuga-l.html)
However, the GAPPS are a .tgz which means (I think) they can't be flashed using recovery. Thus, you'll more or less need to follow the procedure in this post.
NOTE: you only need to flash them using the procedure below if you are not using PABX's build. If you are, then you just need to follow the installation instructions on his page.
An alternative set of gapps linked by _infected is https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=20902

Original post:
I've used the GApps from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/orig-development/illusionrom-lollipop-lrx21m-t2929192
Because there is no recovery (that I know of) you have to manually copy them on using ADB, but once they are on you can create an account, access the play store, and thus install the other Google apps.
(I have barely tested them, though)
To install thees Gapps, I did the following (in brackets is description, don't enter it. Number is sequence of events, don't enter it.
1. adb shell (open a shell)
2. su (become root user)
3. mount -o rw,remount /system (make the /system file system writeable)
4. mkdir /tmp/gapps (make a directory to put the gapps in temporarily without losing the file system privileges on them)
5. chmod 777 /tmp/gapps (make the /tmp/gapps folder writeable to all)
6. exit (leave su)
7. exit (leave adb shell)
8. Unzip the file downloaded from the link above
9. adb push /system /tmp/gapps (push the gapps /system folder to the temp directory we created)
10. adb shell (back to the shell on the phone)
11. su (root again)
12. chown -R root.root /tmp/gapps (change ownership of all the gapps file to root)
13. cp -r /tmp/gapps/* /system/. (copy the gapps files into the /system partition file system)
14. exit (leave su)
15. exit (leave adb shell)
16. adb reboot (reboot device)
17. ???
18. Profit!!!
I'm not certain all these steps are necessary, and I'm writing them from memory not as I do them but I am pretty sure they are correct.

EDIT: look at Post 3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56536436&postcount=3) for a link to PABX's most recent gapps and a (rough) procedure to install them. If you are using Thomas's builds, read on.
If you're trying to flash a zip-based set of GAPPS, then follow the instructions below *but using your own GAPPS package, not the one I've linked). If you *want* to flash a zip-based set of GAPPS but don't have them, then you can grab them from this post by _infected: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56623436&postcount=314.
Original post:
Hi,
The ADB way you do in normal mode (i.e. when the phone is running), not in fastboot mode, but there is a better way (which I will describe below).
I am now using these GAPPS and they seem to be working well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo.../gapps-google-apps-flashable-package-t2930260
The better way to install the GAPPS (compared to my ADB method above)
1. Install the rom (using fastboot) and start it up once.
2. Shut down and go back into fastboot mode
3. Download HodorKernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/orig-development/kernel-hodorkernel-t2865648)
4. Extract the HodorKernel ZIP, and flash the boot.img (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
5. Reboot and go into recovery (pressing down on the volume while booting)
6. Sideload the Gapps linked above
7. Power off (in TWRP, 'reboot'/'power off')
8. Go back into fastboot mode
9. Reflash the lollipop boot.img (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
10. Reboot
12. Do a happy dance
Note: other kernels may well work; I just used Hodor because I had it lying around.
Note 2: #9 is not an optional step. You *must* reflash the original boot.img or your rom will not work.

vpn client on android L
Hey there, I live in a country where most of the websites are filtered by the government and it seems like I cant get any of the vpn clients apps to be working on this Android L build such as the "hotspot shield" or "psiphon", I hardly logged in to my google account and cant get my contacts to be synced. Any supposed solutions?
so no one is going to help me!!????
Thanks
I followed your guide and it worked perfectly for me. Though I used a different boot.img with recovery.
I guess older boot.img with custom recoveries should all work then.A BIG THANKS

What do you want, magic? Right now the device can't transmit mobile data: I am not sure that VPN clients not working is going to stack up as top priority.
First, you need to be more clear about what you tried. What specific clients did you try? Did you try Cyberghost? Did you try ProXPN? Did you try using a generic OpenVPN client as well as VPN-specific apps?
Re: Google contact syncing: it isn't clear whether you're saying that it isn't syncing because the VPN isn't working, or it isn't syncing at all. Be specific.
If you want a fully functional phone right now, don't use Lollipop builds. If you want to use Lollipop, then accept that some things will be broken and either work out how to fix them and tell others, or report the issue and live with the fact that it takes time for people to test and respond.
thanks anyway

I dont think I asked for such an answer, thanks for your attitude but any way I'll answer your questions so that maybe somebody could help me
First you could say I've already tried every possible way of a proxy
second, according to google contacts syncing its because that server is already blocked here so you cant sync those except if you got a working vpn (although I found a way to get them, but not with the normal sync way)
actually the main purpose of my post was reporting that this vpn stuff isn't working so that they even try fixing it

Android Version : MM2_A10_PORT_REV_Q Easy recovery install.
You should be having proper knowledge of flashing Custom ROM and how to Restore a phone if anything goes wrong.
Take complete backup before taking any action based on this thread. I am not responsible for any action taken by you.
I am just compiling all the information / files available on different websites into this thread, I have patched together with cyber spit, bubblegum, and tape, for a pretty much fully working MM2_A10_PORT_REV_Q running rom. With the help from Mohzuned. I have removed what I believe to be all of the bloat. We worked to modify a working pie vendor. Magisk 19.5 installer is all ready included as well as the modified boot for root access.
All Credit goes to respective developer/s. I request XDA moderator and or Developer of Respective files to let me know if I have forgotten to mentioned (give credit) their name in this thread. The Download Links are given directly from respective Developer/s.
You need the following two files to Test Android 10 / Q on Mi Max 2 (Oxygen). This ROM recovery is ported from the Xiaomi RedMi with many patches and customized from various sources. This ROM maybe Stable enough for your daily use on Mi Max 2. I have access to two MM2 4/64 Global versions using a 1tb sd card one on At&t the other on Tmobile and MOST features I need are currently working.
1a. Treble Mi Max 2 Recovery 3.2.1 https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=5862345805528056270
1b. OrangeFox Recover 10
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ora...n.zip/download
2. MM2_A10_PORT_REV_Q
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1KfWqQmi7bN_yXZfgVzxiifWuS2jDozCr
First step:
Start your phone into recovery and Flash a Treble recovery, if already not flashed. Restart into Recovery.
Click Wipe then Advance wipe and clear System, Vendor, Boot, Data, Cache, and Dalvick cache.
Second step:
Now Extract the Downloaded Rom files in Recovery backup folder. You should know where and how to Extract. (Use extract tool for android or pc then copy paste to recovery backup folder.)
Third step:
Click Restore and Select System, Boot, Vendor and Swipe to confirm. Wait for restore to complete. If any errors, Reboot recovery and try again. Or Mount the System, Vendor, Boot and try again. After Restore completes Reboot. Please allow 1-2 Minutes for first boot.
Fourth step:
Flash Gapps , If you want.
What works:
Cell Service, Wifi 5ghz/2.4ghz, HW buttons. * Sound Fixed *
What doesn't work:
We will find out. Fixes and various a10 roms should be popping up soon from Scissordragonboy & Others
Guys, this is far from perfect Android 10 package, But now the door is opened for our lovely Xiaomi Mi Max 2 (Oxygen) for future updates.
If I missed anything in the above, kindly let me know to include. If you make any further updates / patches that makes this ROM more stable / perfect or enables new features, please don't hesitate to message me to include in this thread.
I have an old PC running windows with 8gb max at any one given time, So if you would like to make the recovery image into a flashable zip, I'd be happy to update/add it.
If you can afford it, Im trying to save for a computer from this decade, any help is appreciated

If you would like to use the boot, vendor, system, or any other files, All I ask is pass on the proper credits. With this we should be able to have many fully functioning android Q in the near future.

Download the zip, extract it, then go to orange fox recovery and make a backup of your current rom. Then boot your current rom and copy the extracted file into Fox>backup>folder>another folder then delete the existing files and paste the copied files and then from the recovery restore the backup.
Na just format data and all good now. ROM still there but all save data gone yes. Working OK for now still too buggy for everyday use but a step in the right direction

Recovery and back up your old ROM on micro SD card not internal storage. Format data as need clean partition to flash this or will get password at boot. Extract ROM zip on PC and copy to backup folder in twrp on phone. Then wipe all as stated restore as stated and it will boot

Write us an update kernel/vendor yourself, or donate cash towards a computer and it would look better..... FASTER.
In the meantime, consider having patience, most older systems don't even have android 10 booting with RIL. And you realize we don't get paid for our time.
Its comments like this and similar, that make people quite.
Ask hardrock83, beingtejas.....pffft
