Found a way to extend my battery life, weird though

I was just wondering if someone can test it out as well. Ok my situation is that I used to put my phone in standby with nothing on such as my phone looking for email every so minutes because I set those to manual. Don't have any programs running as well. Well when I would wake up my phone the battery would be drained substantially. Example of this was I had my phone at 100 percent charge, went to bed and when I woke up my phone wouldn't wake up so I popped out the battery, put it back in and 28 percent battery. I was like wtf I'm not even using my phone. Well I noticed that if I turn on my bluetooth the battery does not drain like it does when it's off. Kind of weird but I've tested this out and it works. I am using Shaps: 4.31 ROM English and Radio: 1.27.15.32 (I remember reading that this radio was a BETA but I've been using it for almost 2 months maybe more) I'm thinking about switching my radio for another one. Just wanted to let you guys know it's weird. I find myself keeping my bluetooth on all the time so the battery doesn't drain as fast. I can actually get a full days use of my phone now. Weird huh?

Yup - weird - I find exactly the opposite. I turn off my bluetooth when I do not specifically need it to SAVE my bettery.

I have an even different situation. Since I constantly use my bluetooth headset, I leave Bluetooth in the "On" mode all day and night. The thing is, I charged my battery until it was at 100%, left it on the counter (not charging) for the night (approx. 8-9 hours) and when I woke up, it was at 98%!
Keep in mind, Bluetooth and WiFi were both turned on. Good stuff.

If your battery is draining over night when your not using it, it's probably because you have something running in the background. You might have "closed" something and then it was actually still running. Try installing AlltheWay's task manager. This aids in making sure nothing is running in the background.
I'd upload the cab but I'm at work and don't have it.
Getting a full days use out of your phone is NOT something you should be happy about. I get 2 days with Wifi and Bluetooth use.
@ kamilzmielca: Your Wifi connection goes to sleep when your phone does, so your Wifi actually wasn't running over night.

yeap, mine does the same thing, thought i was crazy, but with bluetooth on i save battery life.

Yeah man I thought I was going crazy also. To the previous poster all the programs are fully shut down. I've had many pda's (windows) and I am familiar with how they work. I fully shut everything down and then put it to sleep. Bluetooth seems to be extending my battery. Like I said before all my email I have setup in the phone I set so I manually have to send/receive instead of it looking for it at a predestined time. Nothing is automatically connecting (as in programs) I'll look a little deeper, it may be due to the radio version on my Kaiser. Any input on this guys?

you could try to measure the actual battery usage with "BatteryStatus" with and without bluetooth. Would be interesting to see the differences.

Maybe the bluetooth is slowly charging the phone when on through the radio waves! or some mad theory
I might give this a try as my phones lasts about a day atm

My phone lasts about a day at the most with full battery charge. 2 hour of talk time plus the other stuff I usually do. 2 days is crazy maybe you don't have as much programs on your phone so you use it less. (to the previous poster) I will get that battery program and do a test to see the difference.

Your not crazy man! I'm doing a test now with BatteryStatus and notice that I actually get a lower mA reading with BT on. This is messed up.
When I fist read this thread I though everyone was nuts, now I think I've just entered the rubber room. lol

I could imagine, that some application or some part of the operation system is trying to communicate with the bluetooth stack. And when bluetooth is turned of, it tries it again and again. Where when bluetooth is turned on it justs recognizes, that bluetooth is on but no device is paired and doesn't bother any more.
Just an Idea. But it would be interesting to find out if this also happens with an absolutely clean device after hardreset. And if so, if this applys to all ROMs.

I mentioned in another thread, but I installed that new Google Search bar that came out the other day. It sits on your Today Page. Battery life went to heck when it was active. As soon as I disabled it, battery life improved. I'll try turning on BT. You never know.

Just an update.
I've flashed duttys new release (in my sig) and the mA reading is where its supposed to be (between 1-5) WITHOUT having bluetooth running. I'll test with BT on for a little and post back.
EDIT: With BT on I seem to have the same power drain as I would normally.... which is great cuz I usuall leave it on anyway.

This BT phenomena might have something to do with the flashed ROM you guys are using. I've got the standard HTC TyTN2 default ROM and BT on definitely sucks battery power more than without.

Very strange. I could even see it being possible...
With bluetooth on in standby it's doing sub-10mA (5-8mA). With the screen on, it's about 80mA to 100mA.
With bluetooth off in standby it's doing sub-10 again... maybe a little lower.... and with the screen on... still around 80mA.
Doesn't seem to be having the desired effect on my phone (stock O2 ROM), but then I can already get 2 days out of my phone without too many problems.

Now it only saves my battery granted if I'm not using a bluetooth headset. If i'm using bluetooth like via a headset it will drain fast. If I have it on but not using any Bluetooth devices it saves my battery.

Xperia Z abnormal battery drainage and Wifi is DEAD

i bought my phone on 1st march and it was all fine (except the stamina mode led notification) until TODAY. I have experienced 2 sudden battery drainage on the same day and the battery can drop like 70% within an hr and the phone became VERY HOT. I have my stamina mode and location based wifi on.
Now my wifi and bluetooth is not working. I have rebooted my phone and switched off the location based wifi and trying to manually turn back on wifi and bluetooth but still failed! the wifi icon keep blinking but never able to turn on again. i also reset and erase everything of the phone and repair the phone once with the SUS. still NO LUCK!
I dunno if the abnormal battery drainage is something related to the location based wifi mode or the overheat killed my wifi or the wifi problem caused battery drain?. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? or just me? heres the battery screenshot.

I bought the Xperia Z the day it came out. I sent the first one back because I thought I was experiencing audio issues. The sellers claim they couldn't understand what I was complaining about, as they said caller audio was just fine.. but they sent me a new one anyway. I don't know, perhaps it is my network, because some callers sound muffled or like there is a separate layer of audio over their voices. I might change my sim card because the replacement unit is exhibiting the same behaviour.
Anyway, overheating and power drain. The phone was kind of ok. I was juicing it a fair bit because I watch movies, use the net, HSDPA+ constantly connected etc. All was relatively as expected, then suddenly, I was experiencing a massive power drain and overheating. Overheating while the phone was charging, really small increments in power when charging so it was taking forever, any use of the phone while charging would drain the battery (even though it is supposed to be receiving power), eg connecting to the net, watching movies, checking/sending messages, anything. The problem got so bad, I requested a second product return code from the dealer and was preparing to send it back.
Brain wave - "what if it was a software conflict with an app?". The phone is supposed to be some sort of behemoth and an app shouldn't have such an effect on it, but it was a thorn that felled St Jerome's' Lion. So I went over what I had installed recently and figured it may be a conflict with SystemPanelLite Task Manager. I immediately uninstalled it. Nothing.. no change. Eventually, the phone drained so badly, it shut down. I kept the charger plugged in, let it drink a little and powered it back up. I charged it to capacity. It was limping for a day or two, similar overheating problems and what not, did a second complete drain and shutdown, booted it back up.
Now it seems to be charging as normal, the battery percentage rising as it should, no extreme overheating while charging.. granted it warms up a little, but I'll take that over what was happening before. Tried streaming some video, watching native video, no overheating or exaggerated drainage. I think it's fixed. To be sure, though, I went to Sony's website, downloaded the software update tool, had it check my phone over, it said it was running the latest software, but I opted to do a factory reset and fresh install just to be safe. It recommends you do so if you are experiencing issues.
I'm in the middle of the fresh install now. If no one hears from me again on this issue, you can assume that uninstalling the offending app, draining and rebooting a couple of times and a factory reset fresh software install has fixed the problem. Well... that's what I'm hoping, anyway.

update: battery was heating up during use, not too much, but getting warm, losing about a percent every minute or two of watching video. Boxed it up. Sending back. I hope the fix worked for you as it did temporarily for me, but ultimately, I think I have a faulty unit.

Bluetooth keep awake after update

This is killing my battery. Is anyone having this issue?

Well that's the top on my list of my battery usage for the last 4 days even after rebooting the phone couple of times. The only way to prevent it is shutting down the BT but I don't want to manage my BT all the time.

Just saw your post. I am also having this issue. To test, with BlueTooth on and the phone idle with screen off, I was burning 3-4% an hour. Battery drain was worse if I actually used the phone. Turn off BT and I'm around 1-1.5% an hour. The keep awake percentage with BT on was something like 75-80% awake (the bar on Battery Info looked almost solid). Now that BT is off, the phone wakes up a few times an hour when idle/screen off.
I previously had a Droid Razr Maxx HD and kept BT on all the time with no real effect on battery drain. I had BT paired to my car radio for hands free and to a Motorola Keylink (using the Moto Connect app) for SmartLock. I'd like to keep BT on all the time for the KeyLink/SmartLock feature in Lollipop, but not with that kind of battery drain.
Have you had any luck figuring out how to get BT to work without the Keep Awake?

Has anyone find out what's causing this?

I'm having the same issue - seems to have just started within the past week or so - anyone know what's going on?

Yeah I am manually turning off my Bluetooth when not in use again. Haven't had to do this on any phone since ICS.

The same issue just started for me today. I may have found the cause and (at least temporary) solution. My phone is no longer constantly awake and Bluetooth awake time has stopped increasing.
Cause: power cycling the phone while Bluetooth is on
Solution: turn bluetooth off before power cycling the phone
This is just a rudimentary discovery, but if people can confirm if this also works for them we can maybe get closer to a real cause/solution for this.
edit: False alarm. Bluetooth is now keeping the phone awake again, even without a reboot. Gonna try changing around smartlock settings to see if this helps.

Two days ago, I disabled the settings to let smartlock unlock my phone when in range of my watch. I did not reboot, however. That evening, the phone ran out of power and shut down. Since then, it's been fine. Phone still shows awake all the time, but the battery usage has been much more reasonable (20 hours use out of it vs. 12). Once I verify that it's working reliably, i'll re-enable each setting separately to try to figure out what's going on.

Hey guys - for the last few weeks I've noticed "Bluetooth Share" as the top culprit for my battery drain...haven't had this problem before and can only fix it by turning off Bluetooth...I'm accustomed to leaving Bluetooth on 24/7 because it's a pain in the butt to turn it on and off every time I get into my car, and the battery drain has never been significant.
Anyways, I was eager to update to 6.0, figuring that would cure the problem...but after wiping, flashing, wiping again...Bluetooth Share is still killing my battery! The only Bluetooth item I have paired is my car stereo.

I had the same issue turned out to be the app "Tasker." Dunno if you have that app at all but I figured I'd say since I had exactly the same issue and deleting some random profile I had setup for something that didn't have anything to do with bluetooth ended up fixing it.

Hmm I hope I don't have to go through the painful process of uninstalling all my apps until it stops! I don't have Tasker installed right now so maybe it's something else...thanks for the heads up.

exactly same problem here...have to say that first days on android 6 didn't notice this wakelock, but started after second charge.
i am also using tasker to change the audio setting when i connect to my car bluetooth, but also uses android smart lock to disable security code with my pebble.
did you try to disable bluetooth scanning from location settings menu?

Yeah that's the first thing I tried - disabling that Bluetooth scanning setting - but it didn't change anything.
Have you tried disabling Tasker to see if it fixes your problem?

not yet, i am going to do and check in the next hour.
btw it's strange that this problem didn't come out since the first charge, as i activated tasker immediately...

disabled only the tasker profile that checks for bluetooth interface that i have in my car and seems that the problem is solved....now i have 8 alarms/hour made from bluetooth.
don't know if i should put tasker in the whitelisted apps for Doze, maybe this would help...

I'm curious if we have the same sort of issue - I know I don't have Tasker installed but another app may be doing the same thing...however I did have this issue on 5.1.1 as well, so I don't believe it's Doze causing it.

Seems tasker is not the problem after a while the wakelock comes again, now I am focusing on smart lock, will try to remove all trusted devices...

Or certain bluetooth devices are connected and then disconnected. On disconnect, the wakelock occurs so rooted users are killing bluetooth and having luck with that. Also found this older, but still active group. https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=87778 many there have found apps that are causing the issue. GassBuddy being number one.

Wow I just tested 10 minutes with Gasbuddy enabled...then froze it with TiBu and tested 10 more minutes...and the Bluetooth Share drain was down from 14% to 0.3%...
What a shame that the new app permissions in 6.0 don't allow you to take away Bluetooth access...I really like GasBuddy...time to email the dev.

btw for me it's related to pebble time, if i leave the smartwatch disconnected the wakelocks go down. Will try to remove android wear as suggested...

For me it was "Bluetooth Share" in GSAM Battery Monitor. I don't recall if I saw it in the normal battery stats or not.

I was slowly picking my way through apps, uninstalling and watching the bluetooth usage. I lost patience after removing maybe 15 apps, I don't use any of the "usual suspects". I ended up doing a complete wipe and flashing the 6.0 factory image and am now adding apps back in one by one. For reference, I enable all services and do not turn them off... Wifi, bluetooth, location, Wifi scanning etc. I am too lazy to turn them off and on.
Day 1 - Nothing but factory installed apps, google authenticator and bar code scanner. No bluetooth devices paired but bluetooth in on. Battery last forever, not wake lock.
Day 2 - Added strava app and connected to bluetooth HRM. No wakelock, same battery performance
Day 3 - Added android wear, moto connect and paired moto360. No wake lock and bluetooth keep awake is increasing by about 1 minute per hour so battery life is looking good. Have not enabled smart lock yet, will do that tomorrow.
I keep bluetooth on all the time and complete a full 24 hour cycle with full charge just to make sure that is not part of the problem. Based on my experience, the issue is not the OS or android wear. That leaves misbehaving apps, you just have to find which one through trial and error.

Not sure what you mean by alarms/hour. It takes forever for bluetooth to show on my usage now. Yesterday bluetooth got to 2% of total usage for the day.
On day 4, Wi-Fi started rising to the top of the battery used list. Came out of nowhere and it seems like it is an actual bug Google is working on. The fix for me was 3 steps:
1. In Settings/Location click triple dot in top right and select Scanning, disable Wi-Fi scanning
2. In Settings/Backup & reset select Network setting reset
3. Reboot phone
This greatly improved battery life for me. The change is dramatic, I barely went under 50% per day over the weekend. I would suggest everyone try it, it took 4 days to show up but after the battery is outperforming my clean install with no apps. I still have all other services turned on.

I have this same issue!! I Have had the 6 for almost a year now and sinse day 1 I have had BT on almost 24/7. I have my MiBand connected the entire time, LG Tones and Tones+, a couple hours a day also connected to my vehicle (when tones aren't in use) and BT has never ever been a battery drain.
Switch to 6.0 BAM Bluetooth all over the place! I do not have any new apps, no android wear, google fit, pebble, gas buddy etc installed. Nothing new aside the same devices and apps that were there before 6.0.
But at the same time, by battery isn't lasting any less than before, at times a bit longer too (20+ hours) So I don't know if the BT battery data is just skewed? BBS, GSam and Phone all have different stats. I'll post screenshots in a few.

It seems as though certain apps are not working well with 6.0 and causing this issue...GasBuddy seems to be the most popular. I haven't had any problems since I disabled it last week.
You might have to manually determine which app is causing it by uninstalling/reinstalling apps until you find the culprit...
If you do, please post it here so others can find the answer without going through that hassle!
The other choice is to wait until the app gets fixed or Google issues a fix.

bluetooth wakelock

Hi,
Since several days I notice a battery drain related to bluetooth. It basically started when I added a bluetooth device in the car, so I keep bluetooth on at this time.
Right now I had about 30% of battery usage for bluetooth.
Any way to find out what is causing this? The way it is behaving right I cannot reach the end of the day with the battery.
I don't want to turn off bluetooth, because that is kind of masking the underlying issue.

I was able to fix the problem. It seemed to have been Gasbuddy. After removing the app, bluetooth went back to normal battery usage.

it's an app that can show you the gas prices around you, or if you have an account, you can add gas stations as favorites and check the gasprices (depends on if people are actually updating the prices).
But I see that in most areas which are not too remote, it is rather accurate.
