[Q] Hotspot issues on the M8 - Sprint HTC One (M8)

I have a H/K edition M8. It is un-locked and s-off. I have always clean flashed roms (wipe system,data,cache,dalvik), including renovate, both google play editions, sinless, and various others. I have tried the flashable file and script manager from the native hotspot thread in the development section. My hotspot will activate, and it will transfer data for about 5-10 mins. After that time, my tablet says it is connected but will not transfer any data. I can use the data on the phone so I know it is getting signal, but it will not transfer that data to my tablet. This is my first HTC device, I have always had samsung devices or nexus models and have been flashing for about 5 years. Not sure if a log cat will help or what info I need to provide but I hit a wall with this issue. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

[Q] SGH-1747 mobile data connection problems

Hey guys,
First of all, sorry but I'm a complete newbie with this phone, however I've tried to do the necessary research and I think i've hit a block. First of all, my phone is a SGH-1747 (from the title) Samsung Galaxy s III 4G LTE or just Samsung Galaxy s III LTE which is network unlocked with original carrier being AT&T. I updated the phone to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 via Samsung Kies and everything went smoothly. It was originally my aunt's and I asked her to ship it to me here in Australia. So my current provider is Vodafone Australia and yes I do have a micro sim and can use the phone for almost everything except for the problem that I'm experiencing.
Okay so firstly I thought my problem was that everything I go on google play store via my mobile data (not WIFI), I was unable to update / download certain apps and it would give me a "package file is invalid" error. I've done researched tried clearing cache, cookies, data but nothing seemed to work. I also thought it might be something to do with only unable to download apps that are a certain size, seeing as I could download SOME smaller apps (like google apps updates, but not all) but it got to the point where I tried accessing apps that require an internet connection, and it won't load because of error "not connected to internet or you might be disconnected". At all times I am able to access the internet via internet browser and even search for apps via google play store. I also thought it might be app-related, so i tried different apps, no bingo. I can however download all these apps / updates when I am connected to WIFI at my house, can even access the games. Also thought it might be related to Vodafone not supporting 4G so I tried to change around the network modes but It didn't really make much of a difference... I've also tried factory resetting many times with no bingo.
So now i'm at the point where I don't know what's wrong with it. Do you guys have any ideas? Even vodafone people were unable to find a solution after spending about an hour trying to fix it with them.

[Q] Verizon - Hotspot shuts down every 10 to 15 minutes

Verizon LG G2. Rooted, but I did not install a custom ROM. The 12b OTA update was installed.
I downloaded the Mobile Hotspot APK that skips the provisioning check from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456338.
I am new here, so I cannot post in that forum.
The hotspot works, but will shut off every ten to 15 minutes and I don't know why.
If FoxFi ever figures out how to run on the G2, I would not even bother with rooting. I have a limited data plan, and I resent Verizon asking me to pay even more to use the data I already paid for.
Any suggestions?

EDIT: I went into app manager, found the Provision app, cleared the cache, and now I seem to be fine.

[Q] Problem with wifi after lollipop update on Sprint HK M8

Hello,
My wife and I are both having similar issues with wifi after updating our phones to lillipop. We can connect to the wifi, but apps that require a login or apps that have an optional login are giving errors saying that there is no network (Network issues, no connection, etc.)
Apps that don't work with wifi: Bank apps, Amazon apps, Twitch, Feedly, Speedtest.net, etc.
Apps that do work on wifi: Chrome, YouTube, Drive, Mail apps, etc.
If we turn off the wifi, everything works fine. We both are running stock phones, I've got the HK M8, and she's got an older M7. There are times when a few of the apps will work for a few minutes, but then the issues come back. My wife's phone is also able to connect to our work wifi, when there, some of the apps that don't work at home will consistently work, but not all of them
We've both been told by HTC to do factory resets and to flash the latest stock RUU. The issue remains even after doing this. I don't really want to do the next step of sending in our phones for 7 to 10 days while they "repair" them.
I've tried everything I can think of. I've also factory reset our router and tried every wifi channel and/or security option, hoping that it is an issue with my wifi router.
Does anyone have any idea of what I can try before having to mail HTC my phone?

Sounds exactly like the problem I had. Factory reseting the router took care of it for me though...

Hey there, i have been using an M8 for two months now and the problem that I have, which fits exactly the description of yours, is starting to annoying me. Every time I try to use these apps which need login I have to turn to mobile data to be able to do it. In my case, the issue that us affecting me the most, is with whatsapp, which even though I do can use, I cannot download media on wifi! (Neither pictures nor voice recordings).
It's a real pain in the neck to be doing this all the time, and I have two friends who also have m8s and are suffering from the same problems, so I guess it's something quite generic. Besides all the other android phones in my family work just fine with my router, so the problem is clearly mine. I think that HTC should have done something about it long time ago if it is such a common issue, considering that the price of the device is not cheap...
Anyway, my question is: have you been able to solve the problem? If you have, would you please take a min to share the solution? I would be deeply grateful!

I am using my HTC One M8 HK with lollipop update from the time they released and never had any problem with wifi. I use wifi wherever I go and no problem with anything. Try the following solutions:
1. Check the WiFi Router. Most of the times it is the problem with your router. Check if there is any restrictions or whitelist/blacklist of services.
2. You might be having some apps with whitelist/backlist running in the background. It could be your antivirus app, battery booster or Opera app, etc which does the wifi whitelist.
3. If you are using the sign-in wifi networks, make sure you signed in to the network using the browser window before opening the app.
4. If you are using the VPN (even in the wifi network) you won't be able to open the apps like Bank apps.
5. If the apps you installed are not supported in your country, you won't be able to access.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the apps. Sometimes, when you upgrade to different OS partitions are not aligned properly. Reinstall and check.

Problem accessing Youtube and Play Store

Hi, I desperately need some support as my device refuses to sign in in both Youtube and Play Store. I'm therefore unable to use both these apps. An error message keeps saying I'm offline and proposes to retry, but it simply never works whatever I do.
Issue has been going on since many weeks; I googles and tried many suggestions without any success.
Before I do a hard reset, has anyone an idea what this can be?
The amazing part is that my daughter's tab (Galaxy S2) is also having the same issue since some time! She has her own google account. What the heck is going on?

This may be an bug in the updated version of google play store or YouTube..Have you tried to sign in specific apps usning another google account you have..Also try to clear cached data of phone as well as clear data of those apps* you can also uninstall updates of those apps and force stop or disable them and after enabling again try to access*..Also might be network related issue sometimes weaken network shows such type of errors..Try to acees with high speed wifi or data with maximum signal..Even if problem exist then simply reset is last option for you..

Hi, I tried most of the solutions you're are mentioning, without any success. What I find interesting is what you wrote about weak network. I cancelled my cable connection at home some time back and using instead a 4G modem. Could that really be the culprit, knowing the coverage is medium? It sounds to me strange that such possibility exists, also I often go out and have full 4G network for hours sometimes and still it doesn't work. Interestingly enough, every about once per month it suddenly works, and I'm able to update my apps and also access my account in Youtube. It'll work for 2-3 days, until it's again the same bad. Really boring and would love to understand this issue better so as to possibly fix it. Thank you.

1)It's possible sometimes your networks proxy enforce your google id not to be sign in into specific apps you have mentioned and yes sometimes low network coverage also causes the issues like offline or sign in errors like please check network connection due wireless functionality limitations
2)I am curious about one thing if you have tried almost all the solutions found on google as well as your own, is it that much impossible for you to make backup of your current imp data and give a try to hard reset?? If i am not wrong, please give it a try because sometimes software glitches also causes the app crashes or network errors
3) Next thing sometimes your stock software gets corrupted due to some fatal malwares so many system apps as well as third party apps pretended to show errors like unfortunately process is stopped also some network related issue, so one solution you can try is to re-apply or update your current stock firmware..i.e. if update is unavailable you can fresh install same firmware version again on your phone which most of the times resolves the issue
4) As i mentioned in my first post you should give a try to any high speed mobile network like LTE or 5ghz band Wi-Fi which gives constant access to internet connection which probably help you to figure out exact issue i.e. with modems or connection your using or with your device itseld due to corrupted software
5)Please mention your device model no,country,your mobile network provider information so that it would be easy to figure out your issue

I forgot to mention an important point: my daughter's tablet (Galaxy S2 pro) has got the same issue, and it started near about the same time like it did to me. She has her own Google ID, and she uses a different set of apps. Will report whenever I can test on a wifi.
My mobile provider is Salt Mobile here in Switzerland, and my Note 5 is a generic one bought in UAE. I run Dr. Ketan rom of about 8 months ago.

1)Ohhhk now i got, i assume you might be using Indian Variant with indian mobile network providers as per your username 'prerna'
so your device might be factory unlocked SM-N920C
2)So you should try on any faster network provider or incase wifi to check if problem is due to weak singal strength or specific with your device software integration
3) And i think you should give a try to dr.ketan's nougat rom which is based on latest nougat firmware which will might help you to overcome your issue as new base,new kernel will help you to get stable connectivity
4)If your running dr.ketans MM 6.0.1 based rom then download latest N5 nougat rom to flash
5)I know u might not new in flashing custom roms ad your running a custom one only from 8 months but once again be sure to enable 'oem unlocking' and 'usb debugging' options from developers option before flashing latest twrp version(Don't worry u can flash dr.ketans rom using any 3.0 twrp version ur running now but if latest version with stability and improvements available for your device then you can install it as per your requirement) if your running old one or before flashing nougat based N5 rom by dr.ketan

Newb questions about rooting, recovery, and ROMs

I know there are guides, but it's hard for me to follow how much applies to my specific case, and how much risk there is in applying those methods.
I have a Moto G6 with Stock software (build OPS27.104-15-10). Here are some things I would like to learn about.
1) Root: This would allow me to use tethering, among opening other doors, correct?
2) Install TWRP: This I just see as a useful step in playing with custom ROMS.
3) Install Custom ROM: I want to customize lock screen and various buttons, but my stock ROM doesn't support much.
I've always used my Android phones (HTC Hero, HTC EVO, HTC One M8) with root and custom ROMs. But I never knew much about the process other than to follow certain steps that would take me there. With TWRP, I could download ROMs, run them, and switch back whenever I wanted. Is there a simple recipe that gets me there with the G6? I don't need a zero risk solution, but I'd like to know if it's been reliable for most people.
I apologize if this has been spelled out already elsewhere. Feel free to point me there if that's the case. Thanks!
1. Which kind of tethering are you talking about? If you mean to share your data connection with other devices, root doesn't really help achieve this. It all depends on your carrier. There are workarounds such as PDANet on the Play Store.
2. There are (at least somewhat) functional builds of TWRP available in the ROMs section of this forum.
3. As of now, custom ROMs not available. Since there's a TWRP, development will hopefully take off soon.
Nowadays, rooting isn't so simple and should be taking seriously. Before you do anything, I highly recommend that you read everything carefully and research on how to recover if something goes wrong. We don't want you to have a bricked device.
Re 1: I was talking about sharing my data connection over Wifi. I'm on Sprint, and my old HTC One M8 running Cyanogen could tether. So there's certainly a way to do it, but my G6 with stock gives me permission issues. I tried PDANet, but it said it doesn't support my carrier.
I suppose I'll hold off on this for now until I can see a clear path or a clear benefit. I hadn't realized that this process might be more difficult on newer phones. Does this vary with brand and model? If I were picking a phone over again, how would I know if there was good custom ROM support? Just by reading the XDA forum for each phone I'm interested in?

I'm on Sprint with a bone stock G6. Data sharing works fine (Settings > Network & Internet > Hotspot & tethering). I think the previous poster is right: You have to have a plan that allows tethering for it to work.
My old phone worked, and it was on the same Sprint plan that I have now.
