Motorola, HTC and Sony have already mentioned plans to upgrade some devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop, but Samsung, which doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to providing timely Android updates to its devices, has yet to say anything on the matter. However, in a new post on Twitter promoting the Galaxy Note 4 phablet, the company seems to be hinting at a future Lollipop update for the device.
“Anyway you look at it, the #GALAXYNote4 Quad HD Super AMOLED display is pretty sweet,” Samsung wrote, posting an image of the phablet with lollipops displayed on the screen (image above).
The Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5, Samsung’s 2014 flagship handsets, are likely to be the first ones to receive the Lollipop update, although Samsung is yet to make anything official.
Online publication SamMobile points out that the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update may arrive in late November or early December, which would indeed be pretty quick, considering that Nexus devices will be updated to Android 5.0 in November.

As i just got my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Black) today, let me be the first to say.....
:highfive:

Considering that root may not be possible with Lollipop, I am not sure I want to upgrade.

Lollipop is rootable on the N5 at the moment.

If your bootloader is unlocked you should be fine. If your on Verizon.... Well someone better put a big bounty out.

You're forgetting something, you do have access to init.d when coming from 4.x.x to 5.0. A phone that came straight out the box with Lollipop might have that root problem but if you keep installing customs roms, there is no reason you'll ever lose root. The problem with Lollipop is the init.d script that runs on boot on 4.x and less doesn't run on boot on 5.0 so root is never accessed. On lollipop, you can root but it will most probably be a pre-boot root, such as with the kernel. And anyways, i remember when chainfaire said that Jelly Bean and Kit Kat will be hard to provide root for, but it didn't prevent him from finding a way around before we were able to get our hands on any custom JB or KK rom.

We all know a Motorola device received KitKat even before Nexus users, here we see a purported Sony Xperia running Android 4.4.2, which is newer than even found on the Nexus 5 .
Is this the reason we bought Nexus? How unfaithful Google could be.

Most probably it's fake. Esp. the lighter 2 in the end of 4.4.2.

If you look closer that picture than you see that the font of the number 2 is not the same whit the rest so FAKE.
P.S. i saw some galaxy S3 clones and it said 4.2.2 but it was definitely gingerbread
Yeah, it looks fake.
This elitist attitude by some Nexus users is annoying. I thought that was supposed to die out with the Samsung fanboys when Google stopped updating for the Galaxy Nexus.
You're already getting good value for the price you pay. Why are you whining that Google is releasing (or helping to release) version updates faster for other devices, isn't that a good thing for the Android ecosystem. Is it necesary to have the latest version only for yourself to validate your self-worth and feel superior to others because you have a device with a unique brand name?
Can mods lock this thread please?
Also, now you know to not read news from GSMArena.
What does this have to do with last year's Nexus?
Even if it's not fake, it's unreleased and it's an incremental update. Who cares?

[Q] Will Verizon exclusivity have a huge impact on the Droid Turbo's dev community?

This phone has awesome specs, 5.2 inches is a more reasonable screen size than 6 inches (for me), and the outright price is $100 less than the Nexus 6.
It has everything going for it except it will contain all the VZW bloatware and will of course be locked down like crazy. Because it is a Verizon exclusive, the devs will be limited by ¾ (no Sprint, T-Mobile, or ATT devs) and that leaves me to question is the phone worth the lack of development that Verizon exclusivity creates? By comparison the Nexus 6 is one model for all carriers and is practically guaranteed to have a huge developer community.
If you have your mind set on either the Droid Turbo or the Nexus 6, what are your reasons for selecting that particular phone in regards to your speculations of the future developer communities among all the other reasons?
Maybe? Anyone who tells you a definite answer is simply guessing. You can go check out the other "droid" forums here on Xda to see if they were affected.
Myself I couldn't care less about rooting or flashing ROMs, I'm getting the phone since it's a damn beast of a device

It all depends. I had the DROID DNA which was also a Verizon exclusive and wasn't promoted too much. It had great dev support within a few months. I've had an unlocked bootloader and root for awhile. Then again, it was an HTC device.
What for do you need the developers for this beast phone anyways...

i can tell from experience last year droid maxx, the software was so fast and cool that i never missed any custom rom, because you would lose active notificacions and ok google now function, i even debloated the stock droid maxx rom and released it for dev devices and it was even faster, i can live with stock rom, but root its necessary, so as long we get root for this one im cool.
All I know is people are pist this phone came out after they upgraded. This is the first time i get a phone beyond my expectations.

In general a Nexus is easy to unlock and develop for and a Verizon branded phone is difficult to. That's not to say the Turbo won't have development or get unlocked though. It's definitely possible but more difficult. I bet there will be some big developers for this device so we'll see. IMO if you can deal with a huge phablet then definitely go with a Nexus over this. I personally just can't walk around with that big of a device.
The galaxy nexus (vzw only model) had insane dev support. I don't think the exclusivity will be the issue as much as the difficulty to unlock it.

Android M for Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5, Rumor Roundup
Android M is the upcoming major update for the device running on Android operating system. Currently Galaxy S5 and Note 4 are receiving Android 5.1.1 in some regions. Google is going to release Android M under version 5.2 in September. Previously Samsung had taken much time than expected to rollout the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to Galaxy S5 and Note 4 devices. But this time the South Korean giant may rollout the Android M update for Galaxy S5 and Note 4 devices in time as it is not a big update like Android Lollipop. So Samsung may begin the rollout of Android 5.2 to Galaxy S5 by the end of this year. Note 4 users may also receive the Android M update by the end of this month.
Galaxy S5 Retail and unlocked editions will receive the Android M update earlier than carrier locked editions and the same applies to Galaxy Note 4 also. Full details about the rollout dates will be revealed in coming months.
Android M brings special app permissions that give more control over device and apps. New Doze mode saves more battery and increases the standby time of device. It already has proved in Google Nexus devices and it is working much better than Lollipop battery saver. Google released the previews of Android M for developers and bug reporting. Till two minor bugs have been reported and there are no major bugs. So it seems that Android M will be the bugfree version of Android Lollipop. User interface also simplified in Android 5.2. Samsung may also minimize Touchwiz to improve performance and user experience. More details and full changelog will be revealed at the time of rollout of Android M to Galaxy S5 and Note 4.

Try to set up a new hotspot with your carrier.
Especially with Samsung's Rule 1 applies... if an OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission let it be! Firmware upgrades and updates can and do break devices. If it upgrades the bootloader too you're really boned.
This N10+ in my hand is still running on Pie, no firmware changes in over 3 years. Current load will be 3 yo in June; still fast and very stable with minimal maintenance. Security is not an issue.
That's what Android is capable of. You'll never realize this if you keep mucking with the firmware. I keep OTA updates disabled. I don't allow Wearable to flash firmware to my Buds+ anymore either after a recent one trashed the sound quality; it was a good flash that should have worked. They still need to be reflashed and rolled back to the factory shipped version
I got 2 other pairs so it's on the back burner.
