What are you trying to use it through? I have tried the option under settings>display but I guess this option is only for DLNA devices. I saw there was a mirroring app but since I have verizon I do not currently have root with this device.
Please let me know if you get it to screen cast because I've also been searching around for a bit.

I can obviously do it with things like Netflix and Hulu.
What I want it for is Amazon instant video. As it doesn't support Chromecast.
I guess the Nexus 4 and some other devices can mirror their screen with A Chromecast. But I guess not the X.
I'm on Verizon as well.
Google hasnt enabled this option for the Moto X yet. The only devices with this working right now are Galaxy Flagship phones, Nexus lineup and HTC One M8. I dont know why they didnt enable it for us. We will have to wait for Lollipop (which comes with this enabled by default). It is a server side thing, so there is nothing you can do right now
If you have root, you can try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...experimental-enable-mirroring-device-t2812193
Confirmed working on Moto X 2014.

Yea, I have friends that are bragging that it works on their Note 3 and Nexus4.
Guess there's nothing to do but wait.

It's not working for me with my Chromecasts. The "cast screen" toggle is there, but it will only see my LG TV that supports miracast. However, my Chromecasts are seen by the individual apps.

it was workin when i first updated to lollipop but when i did a factory reset its not workin anymore..... so i think when u use the rooting method to enable chromecast before updating to lollipo it still works after the update
I am rooted and was able to download #MirrorEnabler app to enable mirroring via Chromecast

Right
So I am not rooted running Lollipop and cannot mirror to Chromecast ?

I'm sorry, this doesn't make sense. You are rooted or unrooted/stock? I tested it yesterday, and Google has still not enabled support for the Moto X with Chromecast.

Upgraded to lollipop on my VZW X and cast to screen doesn't work even though it's showing in quick settings. Netflix, Google play movies etc. work but not cast to screen.
It works perfectly on my N7. Did VZW cripple it or is it just a matter of an app update?

I got my Chromecast today, while watching some videos using my Nexus 4 Android 4.3 to Chromecast . I experienced lock up's, after the screen timeout. I can't get into the lock screen. So I have to reboot again..by long pressing the power button of my phone. The streamed content is still working while doing the reboot.
N4 Blackout Issue
I'm having the same issue. I'm on a bone stock N4 running Android 4.3 from the factory image.
However, it is an interesting development that the Chromecast continues to run even when our device is off... I'm betting that soon we'll see a crack to running the full Chrome OS on the Chromecast.

Why is that an interesting developlment? That is how its designed... you arent 'sharing' content from your device to the chromecast. The CC is pulling the content directly from the network itself.

No where did they ever say that the Chromecast could run without another device once it started... So since it was never announced or talked about, that DOES make it an interesting development... !

I believe it was mentioned in the demo. Once a stream was started from Google Music, YouTube or Netfix the phone/tablet is no longer needed. They mentioned that we would see no battery drain as well. This is because the phone/tablet is not doing the steaming. Essentially your phone is just a remote. Just like a TV ... You find the channel you want and the remote is no longer needed.
I too am experiencing the lock up when the phone is put to sleep during streaming. I think it is related to the lock screen. If you push the power button once and wait a while you see the new lock screen that shows up during streams.

Same Here
Bone stock, unrooted 4.3 here. It's frustrating. Had to restart N4 5 times so far in last few hours. I am not even Casting anything now still the lockout.
I am having the same issues. Chromecast was working fine with Android 4.2 but after getting the 4.3 update my device will randomly lock up if I am casting from Netflix. It happened once with Play Movies but so far it has only been consistently happening with Netflix while using stock Android 4.3
Happening to me too. Seems like an awfully big bug to let out the door. Still remains unfixed. Since this is the only device I have to control Netflix on the Chromecast, does anyone know if Netflix in Silverlight/Chrome supports chromecasting?
I was having the issue and just wiped the entire thing and loaded the stock 4.3 odexed rom with busy box etc. Once i did this every time i would reboot i would get stuck at the google boot screen. Anyway, jumped into recovery and fixed permissions and all was well. That was after another 2 wipes and reflashes. So not sure what really changed, but thought i would thought my experience out here for someone to pick apart.
Yep having the same issue here, glad to hear it's not only me I guess.

The issue is with 4.3 and not just with Chromecast. The N4 seems to lock up when video is/was playing and the screen goes to sleep. You get a sleep of death. I've experienced it with Netflix, as have many others. I've seen reports of it with other video apps as well. And these were NOT Chromecast users, just regular users of their Nexus 4s.
So it's a bug in 4.3 that Google needs to fix, or possibly can be fixed by the developers of the problematic apps.
I've discovered if I plug my phone in and activate the dock screensaver then it prevents my phone from going into sleep of death mode. Not ideal but it is a solution for anyone that has a charger near their TV

Currently, it lets you change the HardCoded DNS, and keep your exploitable bootloader so you can flash any future things that come along. Currently there us nothing except rooted images, but I know some people are working on themes, as well as someone working on getting a open source graphics driver going.
Apparently a play edition of the S5 is coming pretty soon since google started changing it's images on the listing for the S4 to images from the S5
I'm switching to their rom the day it gets ripped and posted for us to download

while there are bug fixes, i highly doubt they'll patch the particular exploit that allows us to root, and if they do, Chainfire will find another exploit in a matter of days, specially since the kernel source is available, so you'll always be able to root, don't worry about that.
I took a plunge and I managed to root the device with ChainFire. Now to wait for the GS5 Playstore edition
I wonder if all of those S5 models will make the porting of the playstore version harder?
Also, what's up with all those versions? Are they baseband-related only (aside from the ones with different processors)?

As per FAQ, Android mirroring is not generally available yet. However, it seems developers in Spain are testing it, so for those with root, Team Eureka has added it to the current Eureka-ROM build.

Really? My S3 stock 4.3 ROM has Screen Mirroring in the Connections menu in Settings.
It used to just be the Samsung-specific AllCast Share on 4.2
It doesn't work with Chromecast, but I'm still surprised there wouldn't be some mirror option on the S4.

Thanks for the report. So far seems like it only works on newer Nexus devices. I believe, like Koush's Mirror, it may requires a hardware H.264 encoder. Makes sense, otherwise screen mirroring would take away CPU time from the device itself, causing a less than fluid experience.
Probably has to do with the OS flavor Samsung has put on where the Nexus lines (OS controlled by Google) have the capabilities.baked in.
CM probably made sure to add any features also found in the Nexus lines which is why it will work for CM but maybe not Stock Samsung.

I was using the last M6 snapshot but just updated to today's build. Also I updated to 05/13 PA gapps. It's 4.3.25 Google Play Services and mirroring keeps working.
Just to let you know, my S4 is the M919 build which uses Snapdragon 600 SoC. Maybe i9500 won't work since it uses Exynos SoC.

Yeah. VZW SGS3 uses S4 MSM8960 which is similar to Nexus 4. I read that someone here couldn't mirror using Nexus 4.
Remember that Google didn't release mirroring yet. They might increase device compatibility after releasing it.

Have you noticed anything that one has and the other doesn't? I've noticed that Motorola's implementation just opens up Google and therefore it seems to be a little bit of a slower solution.

It opens Google for commands that the Moto app doesn't handle itself. So it can be a bit slower but the Lollipop version is actually pretty fast compared to the KK version.
I still use moto because I like the hands free stuff at home and in the car. But yes, simple things like "what's the weather like" and "what time is it" takes a lot longer.

Make sure you have the newest version and just "enable while screen is locked"
No go. You've apparently got a newer version than I do. Here's what my option says:
"When locked:
Allow "Ok Google" to start a voice search of action from a secure lock screen"
Did you install Search or the Now Launcher or some other libraries from APK mirror? Or did you just install the latest version from the play store?

Works from the lock screen, but it doesn't give you the ability to use it when the screen is powered off, unless it's just a problem with my phone. Only the Moto app seems to let me do that.
I literally just read an article today about the newest version of Google search and installed the apk. That could be it.

After looking around, I'm not even sure this is possible. I know you say, zgroten, that you can search with the screen off, but are you _really_ sure you can do it while you're unplugged?
Google, in their blog post, listed only the "Nexus 6, Nexus 9 or Samsung Galaxy Note4" as phones capable of using always-on listening. They did not mention the Moto X 2014.
Yes in the new search it is always listening. The function works on several non moto phones as well.
