Did you fastboot flash the boot image?
What firmware are you on?
Which version of TWRP did you flash?

I used the One_M8_ALL-in -One-Kit_v to get root and to flash trwp 2.7.0.2. I didn't mess with the firmware but I know I was on 4.4.2 and it wanted to take the update but I didn't allow it. I flashed Bad Boyz 4.4.3 latest version...And I do feel dumb for doing that. Wasnt thinking. NOw I am stuck on the white htc screen and cant even get it off by holding the power down button.

Don't forget to fastboot flash the boot image, and you'll need to download SuperSU and flash the zip after you flash the ROM for it to boot up completely.

Thanks Captain...how do you fastboot flash a .zip file? never done that before...I have flashed a image file but not a zip. I have downloaded your rom and waiting to make sure I flash your 0P6BIMG_m8whl_2.16.651.4_boot_kexec-hardboot_patched.zip correctly before moving forward. Also will any SuperSU zip file work on the phone?

You don't need that zip file. Just extract to boot.img from the ROM zip. The zip file is specifically for MultiROM support.

Ok I flashed the boot.img from the rom I downloaded which was M8WHL 2.16.651.4 Stock Rooted - Deodex and then I flashed the rom. I thought you wanted to flash an older base ROM? If so, you wanted to choose a 1.xx base ROM from the thread. Perhaps that's your issue.

Yes I did to get it going. What would I have to do to get the 2.xx rom going? Or do I need to just get it running first on the old version? I really do appreciate all the help! I really just want my phone to work and its so frustrating. I am downloading the older version now and will try that with the boot.img and supersu as well.

Flashing the 2.xx base ROM requires updating your firmware. You needed an older stock ROM so you could S-OFF and do update it, correct? I thought that was the original issue?

[Q] Stock recoveries - The right one, their behavior and the risks of flashing them

Hi, I have an Unlocked 32GB HTC One (BS_US001) and I'm having a hard time trying to find info about stock recoveries.
My phone currently is on stock 4.1.2, bootloader unlocked, S-Off and rooted. I was using the TWRP recovery, used to root my phone. Since the 4.3 update came out, I was searching for the stock recovery to proceed with the update, but too many different files seems to exist. I just want to install the right recovery and apply the 4.3 update, no full ROM flash.
Yesterday I flashed this recovery file (9MB) and got icons similar of those on the right of this image.
Today, I flashed this one (7.9MB) and got something like this, the little android icon.
Later, I've found another one (9.8MB).
Edit: and another one, a few bytes shorter than the third.
But now I'm little afraid of flashing again, just for the sake of it.
So, first of all, which one is the right file for my phone (yet another one)?
Second, I flash recoveries through fastboot command line (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img). Can this method and command brick my phone?
Third, how the stock recovery behaves on your phone? Both times, when I flashed the files and entered in recovery mode, my phone would boot 2 or 3 times straight into recovery mode again, until it boot itself properly, into the system. Also, recovery mode goes from the green to the red icon and awaits until I reboot the phone again.
Thanks in advance.
Final edit: For the sake of others lost in the lack of good info, I'm editing this old post.
I found some crap advices here and there. One of them was the need to relock the bootloader to accept OTAs. It doesn't make any sense, but if you are seeking help, you will take **** as good advice. Don't do it.
Another bad advice was about the stock recovery. Just open the last update you got (Downloads folder on your phone or get the OTA from HTC website) and extract the recovery.img file. Flash it and you have the proper stock recovery for your phone.
All of this is about the stock HTC One - no custom roms, no xposed changes, nothing. The only thing I did prior to this was to flash TWRP and root. That's how I want my phone for now - stock with root.
I kind of went through this today. Ended up just wiping it, running a RUU and reapplying OTAs.
I'll tell you this… after I went through this I attempted to salvage the stock recovery before rerooting etc. I was stuck trying to get fastboot to boot a recovery instead of flash one. I did find an alternate way to harvest the recovery. I got it out of the ota. I'm not done testing it yet, but my phone was still showing tampered. Flashed cwr and called it a day at that point
Sent from my HTC One
Thank you for your answer. I'm trying to avoid the whole RUU thing, but I'll keep it as a last resource, for sure. Also, I'm trying to understand more about this piece of software called recovery.
The one I sent you is pulled directly from stock 1.29.1540.16 for Dev. edition, which comes with an unlocked bootloader as well. Also, it's signed, which will allow it to be flashed whether you're s-on or off. Assuming your MID is PN0712000, with CID BS_US001, this recovery is your stock and will work. Hope it helps.

I've been running into similar issues. For the previous 2 OTA's (1540.3 --> 1540.16 & 1540.16 --> 1540.17), simply reflashed stock recovery, ran the OTA, it updated, then I flashed TWRP again. For the most recent OTA (3.22.1540.1, I think), that seems to not be working, but I can't seem to find the right recovery. I've found 1540.3's recovery, but not 1540.16 (or .17 if there was a new recovery in that OTA). Where did you end up finding it?
Thanks!

Has anyone else flashed stock recovery while on custom ROM? I was pleasantly surprised to discover my SD card was wiped Is this normal, and was there some way I could have figured out this was what was going to happen? I don't really understand what stock recovery does/is for. The only other time I'd flashed stock recovery was after restoring to stock ROM from nandroid.

I haven't been rooted since one of the last 4.1.2 updates, because that's when I went back to stock recovery. I was able to accept those OTA packs, why is this one different? I'm really trying to save factory resets or RUU's for the absolute last ditch effort, in fact I'm more likely to stick with 4.1.2 until I can find a way to do this.

[Q] HTC Vivid Bootloop, Unlocked bootloader, S-On, TWRP installed.

Hi,
I got this phone today, and unlocked the bootloader using the htcdev website. I then flashed a rom, and wiped, and then flashed the boot.img using fastboot. It worked fine, but the cyanogenmod nightly wasn't very stable. I decided to flash a different rom, but I couldn't get anything else to work. The roms, now including the previous rom, don't boot past their boot animations and shut down and boot again. Any help would be much appreciated!
Also, when I power down from the bootloader it tries to start up again. I have to pull the battery.
Also, it's an AT&T version. ROM recommendations are needed, because I can't get anything to work. :'( Preferably de-sensitized. I've check the dev thread with all the ROMS and links.
Make sure you are doing full wipes for each rom and also flashing the boot image.

Yeah, I do that, using the factory reset in twrp and then install the rom, and then I flash the boot image using
fastboot flash boot boot.img
which flashes it no problem. I did actually get the cyanogenmod to work, which is interesting.

You need to update to ICS first, otherwise it won't boot any JB or KitKat ROM.
Then S-off your device, it's really easy

[Q] Where is the OTA update stored?

Hi All,
I have an ATT m7 that I'm running on GPE 4.4 (build KTR16S) with TWRP and the bulletproof kernel.
I'm getting notifications for the 4.4.2 update, and I'd like to install it, but obviously with TWRP installed, it can't automate the update process. So, a few questions:
1) Is it okay for me to manually install the update after locating it from my own recovery?
2) Where is the update stored, so that I can track it down within TWRP to flash?
Thanks guys!

you can't flash ota updates with twrp. only stock recovery. like mb_guy said, the ota are stored in the ''downloads'' folder. When you apply the ota, the file is deleted automatically.
You can manually flash ota updates from stock recovery. Move the ota.zip to android/obb. boot phone in stock recovery, select ''apply from phone storage'' ---> /obb --> your ota.zip
For some reason the update is in the /cache/ directory instead of in the downloads directory.
How do I switch to the standard recovery? Do I need to reflash the entire ROM or is there another flashable file?

you can flash stock recovery the same way you flashed custom recovery:
Code:

you must flash the stock recovery that match your firmware version which you can find with a:

Thanks for the help guys. I spent way too long trying to figure out how to get my computer to recognize my phone while in fastboot so I could get the main version number.
I finally was able to figure that out, but I'm not seeing my version (1.26.502.10) on the page.
Are any of the other recoveries usable? Or does this mean that I would have to go back to stock ATT, take the OTA update ATT was pushing a loong time ago, and then re-root to then flash a GE rom?

S-On troubles
Hey, so my device is currently S-On and I was wondering if the process to install this correctly goes: Flash GPE ROM, flash SuperSU, fastboot flash image, and then reboot? Or if it should go: Flash GPE ROM, fastboot flash image, re-enter recovery flash SuperSU, and then reboot? If you know please reply or send me a DM. Thank you so much. The ROM is already rooted, so I'm not sure why you would be flashing SuperSU. The order of the other stuff doesn't matter as long as you do it before you reboot. You might want to consider flashing a custom kernel, since you're S-ON, though. Otherwise you won't be able to write anything to /system.
I recommend the ElementalX-based kernel I uploaded here: https://s.basketbuild.com/filedl/de...nel/ElementalX-m8-1.08-GPE_AnyKernel_CPTB.zip
You'll need to fastboot flash the boot image before flashing the custom kernel.
I was flashing SuperSU in recovery because Q: I flashed the ROM, and now my phone keeps bootlooping a few seconds after getting to the lock screen. What gives?
A: I made a slight oversight when adding Superuser to the ROM. If you're S-ON, flash the SuperSU zip in recovery after flashing the ROM. This will correct the oversight and fix the reboot issue.
I may try turning my phone to S-Off to make it easier real quick and we'll see how that goes.

Glad to see someone reads the FAQ. I'm pretty sure I fixed that on the latest version, though.
And yes, S-OFF would make this a LOT easier. I highly recommend it.

Can you link to latest version? Also after installing this ROM, can I still chance to S-Off when I have time?

It's in the thread.
And you should really S-OFF when on stock and unrooted.

I'm actually unlocked and rooted. I'm about to S-OFF though and then retry loading the ROM. Thanks for the advice / help by the way, I appreciate it
S-OFF
Alright I S-OFF'd using Sunshine and then tried installing this ROM and again stuck in bootloop. What do I do to make it work?

My phone says it is S-OFF, does that confirm?

No. You need to confirm that the MD5 of the file you downloaded matches the MD5 of the original file. If they don't match your download is bad and you need to try again.

That's actually not an Android thing.
You need to verify the checksum of your file. The download is provided along with an MD5 hash, which you can download any number of programs to confirm the hash of your downloaded file matches the original file.

The original file will have the MD5 displayed somewhere near the file name. You can't miss it. It's a bunch of letters & numbers. You can then use an app like Root Explorer or MD5 Checker to see if your download matches the original. With Root Explorer just long-press the file you wish to check, then select "Properties". Among the info that will be displayed will be the MD5.
Okay thank you, I will begin this MD5 journey and let you know how it goes.

Where is the MD5 hash sum located?

The original one? It's where @Magnum_Enforcer said it is - with the file download.
Here. This is the original. You'll need to use one of the apps I previously mentioned to check the MD5 of the file you actually downloaded. The string of info should match the one in the screenshot.
OH! I thought you were telling me to check the Sunshine MD5. It says they match.
