What I mean by this is real bugs like the camera not working, etc. I don't care about "The text isn't the right color! FTL!" I'd like to ditch Blur, but it seems the most stable of them all.

The latest Rubix Focused (1.6) has been very stable for me.
I don't use camera much, but when I have, it's worked just fine.
the camera thing... in the three roms ive gone through i've had the smae problems, panoramic doesn't work and the vid camera doesn't work. all that needs to be done it put blurcamera.apk back into \system\app\ directory and all the features will work again. other than that you'll just find that backup assistant doesn't work on all of them, or will with some tweaking.

What I did on rubix was install the dx camera from the add-on folder from the fission rom. Installed it like a rom thru bootstrap

I guess I can run a few backups and start trying them out when I get time... I'm starting to feel my phone is a bit slow and clunky.
Selling mine. Tired of the quirks on the stock rom and more quirks on the custom roms. Fascinate even worse. Really been a let down with these two phones.

hate to say, you were warned
even before these phones came out (the D2 and DX) we were warned about their OMAP processors and the e-fuse security employed by motorola/verizon making it highly improbable* that anyone would be able to subvert it, ever.
You are doing the right thing by selling it. No one interested in modding should have ever purchased one of these monsters, imho.
*I would have said impossible but many things deemed impossible have been shown to be merely improbable, however, this is as near impossible as it gets.
My spidey sense is telling me I'm about to be flamed, but oh well.
I'm not quite sure I know what people are looking for, when it comes to ROM's, or for that matter that why people are so concerned about the locked down kernels.
The main issues in my opinion were gaining root, solid customization, removal of bloat, proper tethering, and over/under-clocking.
All of those things have been addressed, and have only been getting better with time.
You can do all of the above without using a ROM, except the heavy customization and deeper removal of blur (which some people like, and some people do not).
The Droid X has an outstanding battery life, especially considering its largest in class screen size, it has a good processor, advanced graphics processing, solid reception and transmission, etc..
-----------
Now to address to OP directly.
It really depends on what you expect of the ROM. Plenty of them work perfectly fine for almost all needs.
If you're looking for partial blur, but removal of bloat, improved speeds, and stability, I'd suggest trying RubiX 1.0 Blurry. It retains the Blur, is pretty much bug free as far as my experience was, improves speeds, removes bloat, and by using Titanium and making nandroids, you can remove extra chunks of blur, piece by piece, on your own.
I personally found Tranquility 3.0 as a pretty comfortable "starter friendly" ROM. It was very stable, and while it retains some bloat and blur, it's a bit faster than the stock ROM, has better battery life, and again using Titanium you could remove some extra junk that you don't want (being careful by creating nandroids in between).
I personally really dig Fission, which appears to be pushing itself towards a solid goal very quickly. It's going to be less user friendly at first, as it really starts digging into the removal and replacement of blur altogether (forget seeing even a hint of bloat here).
The basic idea is that there are apps that probably replace just about everything you're looking for. You may have been happy with the blur ones though, because no one should say that all of blur is terribly made. That's just not the case.
The idea of Fission is to get closer to a pure Android Vanilla feel, and to customize/replace the blur with other apps. I personally use Vignette for my camera app, and have ever since almost the first day that I bought the X. When people in the forums ask about whether or not a certain ROM could use the stock camera app (which many are able to), I usually just skip to the next post, because I know I don't need it. Vignette is better than the stock app, so why should I care either way. Granted it's a paid app, just like the blur camera app is a "paid" app, except only motorola users get to have it as part of the price of purchasing the phone.
Anyways, best of luck finding what you're looking for.
The ROMs will only get stronger for the X, but if you like the blur, and plenty (if not most users) do, then you don't have to go custom. You can root the stock ROM. You can tether it. You can create backups on many levels. You can over/under-clock it. By simply swapping to a stock deodexed version of the stock ROM, you can theme it. You can use Titanium to freeze or uninstall bloat, and some blur, that are normally protected....
I found ApeX 1.0 to be very stable, especially at higher clockspeeds.
I'm with you Stephen58. I have been on Apex with the Next theme for about 3 weeks. Rock solid stable and yea panoramic camera function does not work. Stable OC at 1.2. But I love it and I don't think I am going to change except for short periods of time on weekends to check out other ROM's. Right now, Apex is my use everyday ROM.
bladbarrier +1 i've never tried vignette, i just like the panoramic thing in blur.
VaughnGo-> my post ealier fixes the camera thing in apex.... actually for apex all you have to do is put blurcamera.apk in the root of your sd, and in terminal emulator type:
su
install blurcamera.apk
and fab's script will do the rest.
Apex has been basically bug free for me. I refuse to run a ROM that does not include (or allow use of) the droid x camera and the gallery (with working HDMI), as panoramic pictures and HDMI out are two capabilities of the phone (as a piece of hardware) that i use regularly and should not be excluded. Vignette is NOT better than the Droid X camera. Vignette is different.
Thanks for your help bmac! I will try installing the blurcamera.

Which software for the camera you prefer is subjective, I suppose.
Either way, cell phone cameras are crap.
If I don't have my DSLR or compact with me, I generally just won't bother taking a picture at all. I suppose a lot of people could care less about image quality, or are taking pictures purely to be shared in small form on the internet, and that would be a fine use for a phone camera.
In all honesty, I would have preferred if they had left the camera off of the phone entirely, in order to make more room for a larger battery. Of course that wouldn't sell well to the masses.
I would encourage you to check out Chevy's SSX (Simply Stunning X). Its a good mix of blur and provides a handy utility to remove many blur components.

Hello,
I want to turn my old N1 into an ICS camera. I'm going into some dicey country and dont want to bring my GN, but I really want my N1 to have the ICS camera app. I have a DICApac for it and want to do some light underwater usage and lots of quick response "action" shots (fishing).
Anyone have any recommendations on which ROM would be best for me? I quite literally only care about the camera functionality from ICS and the speed of use. And the SD card All other functionality will not be used.
At first glance it appears that these are my two best options?

Will either of those suit my needs? Is there something better I didnt see?
Great. Thank you for your time.

Is your N1 rooted and has blackrose HBOOT installed? If no, then you don't want to flash ICS if you are planning on taking it with you because ICS is still WIP. Use the Gingerbread ROMs for now.
Agree. The ICS camera for the Nexus One isn't yet perfected.
I'd recommend CM7.2 stable or MIUI Gingerbread. At least they won't let you down.

Well, I've gotta commend you for conceding this might be a tricky task, my man.
I hate the easy answer of "ICS isn't what you're looking for," as I know sometimes it's the kind of thing you just really gotta have.
I'll say this:
You'll hear reports of the ICS camera being a bit kinked up right now. These reports are somewhat true.
The ICS CAMERA isn't so much the problem as is the functionality of the camera APP.
Meaning: In my experience, the camera (still photos) worked fine. If you're looking to do any sort of recording, the ROM simply is not able to accomodate it. The devs (bless 'em for all their hard work) have yet to wade through fixing the video coding to allow for flawless video recording/playback within the camera app.
My suggestion:
If you really want ICS, download one of the distros (I really enjoyed BCM CM9) and test it out. Go in expecting ****e -- not an amazing platform for camera-play. If it ends up meeting your needs for speed and quality (and, I guess, style), then you've got a winner.
For what it's worth though, I actually entertained a hiatus from the ICS party and flashed the stable release of CM7.2 (recently released).
I'll just say it felt like I was playing around on my Atrix again, and Gingerbread has an UNDENIABLE speed/response advantage over ICS. I feel these advantages are crucial to photography and that Gingerbread ROMs might be able to better accommodate your demands.
I could be wrong, though...never want to assume...and if there's a vital feature of ICS's you're keen on having, let us know. We'll try our best to guide you to a good ICS photography-platform (even if extensive tweaking is involved), and if that just doesn't seem possible, I'm sure there's a way to get what you're looking for in a GB ROM.
Good luck though either way, breaux.
Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it. I'm going to dig into some GB roms and see what works best for me.
Yeah title says it.
So is there already a camera guide ? If so where ? And if not can somebody make one who is able to get good pictures with this phone because so far I'm hit and miss and my one x + camera is looking superior and that makes me sad cuz I love this phone. So if someone could Gove me some pointers or feels like making a good guide I'm sure a moderator would stickie it if its useful. I need some help and I'm sure I'm not the only one

I actually considered doing this briefly, but the camera in software 2.17.xx is very different and apparently much improved. For instance, in the ARHD 10 thread, there are reports of much better focusing in low light, a 60 fps option for video, and the ability to touch on a part of the image and *lock* focus and/or exposure. I haven't confirmed all these options personally, but as you can see it would be premature to give guidance on how to get the best results from the camera if you are using an early version of HTC One software.
The "best practices" as they stand now go something like this:
1 Stop using 1.29-based or AOSP ROMs
2 ???
3 Profit
The main problem in discussing these matters accurately is identifying the various *versions* of camera software. It is not enough to go into Settings .. Applications .. Camera and look at the version of the apk. You also have to know what libs are included elsewhere in the ROM. Custom kernel packages have achieved improved camera performance simply by replacing these libs without even touching the app itself.
If I get any real information on this I'll start a thread. I have to rip apart one of those flashable "Camera fix" zips first to see what we're talking about.
So here's what I ask all of those reading. What is the closest possible equivalent to the 5.0-5.5 sense camera found on our device on aosp. I know that it's technically the same but to me the colors look better on sense, and there's less "loudness" on the pictures. I also understand that porting will absolutely not work due to different frameworks. I love aosp for it's feel but sense for the camera and ir capability and also since my girlfriend loves to take pictures with my phone, and with several roms on the original android dev thread the cameras show up wide and do not produce good photos. In all can someone point me towards a sort of "sense on aosp" camera, any help would be much appreciated.
I'll continue the thing about Camera what @persona78 started.
-A 80$ phone with a custom ROM eventually just enables slow motion at 120fps and if I am not wrong, 720p 60fps, I will take another look. Our "amazing" 150$ phone has just time-lapse in stock ROM and nothing in custom ROM's.
So an 8MP camera can actually outperform an 13MP one? As far as can see it does. Same with the iPhone 6 and 5s. 8MP cameras, but amazing performance+ slow motion. Last days I have been looking through the code and sources of that phone and no clue about how someone did manage to enable SlowMo. As I am very familiar with this phone since I dissasembled it by myself for many times now and I can see the camera is not a Sony, is a OV something. But this can relate about the CPU? It has an msm8916(410) so it's actually slower than our phone.
Also there is no Good Food on our B895/B896. Why? Well, I mostly belive first because Y6II has EMUI 4.1.3, so maybe there are some new libs? Possibly. But it is mostly useless. Also there is no possible EIS? Many Huawei phone have it.
This topic about cameras may not be as interesting as others, even for me is kinda boring since I have 2 DSLR's, one which has 560fps. But I would like a "ok" camera on the go rather than taking >2Kg's with me.
Tell me what you think.
You can't do anything with custom ROMs because they use their own software. Their own hardware. It's closed source, this is also the reason why it doesn't really work on custom ROMs.

This is our camera sensors, front an back camera, i think this kind of sensor maybe have some limitations...
But there are users that menage to activate nice foo and makeup in some versions, the main reason i think is framework compatibility with that functionality.
Example SystemUI.apk from B610 doesn't work on B612! Same Android version for the same phone but framework as changed!
How i noticed that? On my B612 mod i only pick the OTA main changes, i let the apk and framework from B610, but i had mod SystemUI.apk, changed the softkeys, etc but i want to get the default app so i pick from B612 and flash it... It fail!!! Only the app from B610 works, so is the framework that is different.
My next update will be full B612 not only the security patch.
Understand me?
.
@persona78 so the B612 is basically B610 with newer security patch, modded by you to work?

Don't do this again please... mod the B612 not the B610 onto B612... I use your rom only for camera changes, eye protection and sound dvs or what's its name.
Btw, did you know another b612 has been released?

To be easy to update i only pick up the OTA files, but since framework is different to now i have done the reverse and get the full system and apply my mod.
When I get some time i will upload.
