Every time I call somebody my phone would turn off the screen automatically it would still call them so I have to turn it back on by pressing the power button to use the phone again but with my old phone it had this thing called proximity sensor where it would turn off the screen when I put it up to my ear
Is there a setting like that on the note 4? I searched like on my other phone I have to open the phone app and then call settings but on this one it just settings and looked but cant find anything

theres absolutely a proximity sensor, it's only disabled in speakerphone or if you switch away from the phone app

I know you're trying to help but I don't think you understand what I am looking for and trying to do....
I am looking for an option either the exact option name as of my other phone or a similar one
to not automatically turn off the screen right as soon as I press the call button and only turn off the screen when I put it up to my ear
The exact option name on my other phones is “Turn on proximity sensor”
I have looked in the phone settings I found nothing saying that but now you're saying you tried it and works? What did you do? What are you talking about?...

I cant find the option but mine is doing it by default yes. so i think you have a bad sensor

So you're saying yours stays on when placing a call? But when you put it up to your face it turns off?
Edit: now my screen doesn't even turn off anymore it stays on even tried putting it up to my ear and it still stays on... I have to deal with this tomorrow...

That is how the phone works. You need to go back to stock with Odin. Root then try. Something might of got messed up in your flash. Also make sure no mods are turned on.

Thanks but figured it out! (I'm a... something haha)
The problem with the phone not turning off at all while making a call anymore was because I had head phones in I took those off and it turned off (why it doesn't turn off when you put it up to your ear when you have headphones beats me...)
Now for my original problem I totally spaced and just figured out a few mins ago but I have like a temp screen protector over the whole device and its covering up all the sensors and front facing camera so I took that off and the proximity sensor feature works now lol so thanks guys for replying haha

Well I've been running gingervolt on my phone and it has been running fine until now. Today my softkeys won't light up anymore unless I go to settings and click on the screen brightness that's when they come on but once it times out and goes black they won't come back on when I unlock it. Also when I received a call and slide the screen up for some reason I can't hear anything and the phone hangs up. Does anyone know what can I do to fix this issue? Thanks. Version 2.3.4 running gingervolt 1.3

This happened to me the first night gv 1.3 was released. It went away the next day though. Re-flash?
Ok. I will reflash and hopefully that would fix it

This will sound weird but what I do when this happens (usually a restart of device) is bring the phone's screen to my laptop screen momentarily, or just hit it with a beam of light from my 700 lumen flashlight It's quick and easy

haha, very MacGyver...Going into Settings > Display and toggling auto brightness on/off would probably accomplish the same thing.

With everything that you've tried, it's starting to sound like it might be a hardware issue. If that's the case, you might have to send it in to get it fixed.
So should i restore to stock and see if that fixes the problem? I guess either way I need to restore to stock if I need to send it off to get fixed right?

Today this random notification popped up on my phone and i wanted to know if it was legit and not some malicious app or anything like that. A screen shot is attached.
I long pressed the notification and pressed app info and i took me to the dialer. I dont know if that is of importance.

I have never seen this extension pop-up, I would say its mostly likely spam or advert. I would download Airpush Detector from the android market and see what is says. I have included a link for you too. Hope this helps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector&feature=nav_result
I had this about a week ago too. I haven't seen it since...

Can you both list the apps you have installed? I will download the same apps and try and troubleshoot for you. Thanks

Try and boot the phone in safe mode (switch the phone off, switch on normally but when the screen lights up, press and hold volume down until booted). This will prevent any 3rd party apps from starting. Then see if you get the notification still.

I've tried relentlessly to find a way to keep the screen on while charging, to practically no avail.
I ended up installing an app called "Stay Awake", which worked in theory, however, after 5 seconds the screen adjusts to the dimmest setting which is nearly impossible to read unless you are in a dark room.
Without that app running nothing else works to keep the screen on during charging.
Anyone solved this issue yet?
Thanks
Why do you want to keep it on? There are some clock apps that i think do this. But not 100% on that.

What I described above is what happens with auto brightness off. After 5 or 6 seconds the screen dims, but stays on, which is fine at night, but during the day its unreadable.

You need a car dock app then. Dashdroid used to do it. Been years since i used one. But check out dock apps.

Did you enable the Developer settings by tapping repeatedly on the build number in settings? I have the setting on my Note 3. Or do you mean it doesn't really do the trick? Sorry lol

Try Screen Timeout Toggle. Great little app that worked for me when I needed this feature while on my Note 2.

The setting is under the developer options screen. (If you don't have developer options enabled go to settings->about device and tap on build number about 10 times. (half way thru tapping you'll see a pop up telling you how many taps are left))

I purchased Light Flow mainly for a light for missed calls. Others may use it for more. I do have it working properly as should but only way I got it work under Device Root Setting enable Direct Mode.
Did anyone on N6 get it work without Direct Mode? What I want is the led to flash but all it will do stay solid in color.
Sent from mobile...excuse typos!
I don't think anyone has gotten it to blink yet, it will stay solid. I have heard if you receive multiple notifications, it will flash.
I can confirm. It's only blinking when you have multiple notifications each with a different color.
I have issues with this app. Also with all root settings enabled led doesn't work properly. Sometimes it doesn't turn on and sometimes it doesn't turn off (in this case I must open the app to turn it off). I hope Dev will update this app soon.

I had some issues with Light Flow too. The LED sometimes didn't work. Now i have found a "hidden" setting in the menu. In Accessibility (you have to scroll down) is an option "Light Flow". You have to turn this to on. Now my LED works as it should.
How can i get this to work with the basic standard messenger?
I have sms selected but so far no go. Everything else had worked so far
Didn't know the nexus 6 had working led light.
I didn't get the LED to work for incoming SMS neither. Maybe someone here has an idea how to fix this.

Brand new S6 edge, I've never gotten the edge light to activate when someone calls/emails/or sends a message. Question I have is does the phone need to be face down to work or is it supposed to work all the time? I haven't had it work in any of my tests. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Doesnt work face down either, have one person set, when the call nothing happens. To add to my question, do the notifications work with other messaging apps (like textra) other than the stock messaging app?
Sounds like you have a bad accelerometer like has been posted on other threads. Your phone doesn't know that it's on the screen therefore the edge lighting feature is not working. You may look into exchanging for a Phone that works.

Are you using the people edge? I had the same issue and I was able to get it working again. It is not an accelerometer issue. I disabled the people edge as soon as I got the phone since I figured I would never use it. After a day or 2 of using the phone I realized the edge lighting was not working at all even though it was enabled. What I did was re-enable the people edge, set a friend to a color and then I had that person text me to see if that was working, which it did, so at that point I was sure it wasn't a broken accelerometer as some users have stated. I then deleted that friend from people edge, (so that all colors were set to default) I once again turned off the people edge and then finally retested the edge lighting and voila! It worked. It must have been some kind of glitch that I reset by re-enabling the people edge and then turning it back off. It has been 2 days and I can confirm it is still working. I hope this might work for you too! Let me know!
