I'm trying to take a panorama with my Z3C. Lighting is good (bright daylight). I've panned from very slow to very quickly. Everytime, it says it cannot take the picture and tells me to pan faster. "Cannot take picture. Please pan faster."
I also tried it indoors just to see. Same error message.
Any ideas? The superior auto mode and manual modes work fine. This is my first time trying panorama and it's simply not working. Thanks.
Edit: One more piece of info. In the little "preview" at the bottom of the screen that shows a tiny version of the panorama that is being taken, it IS filling in as expected, so it appears that things are working. But when I take my finger off the shutter it gives me the error message.

It takes practice to get it right. I believe that if you also change the altitude it will say the same. So try to pan at the same height or it will also say the same thing.
Thanks for the input. I've tried about 50 times. Can't seem to get it!

I gave up on the panorama, it literally is the worst thing I have ever tried. I might just get a Panorama app for taking those types of pics. I know the struggle that you are having. The only way to get it to work, is to do a full sweep, that seems to be it.

Nope, didn't know that, and it makes Sony panorama mode completely worthless. I don't always need my panorama to be the maximum width permitted by the software. Sometimes i only need it to be slightly wider that one picture would allow.
I think this is the first phone I've had in years that forces panoramas to be the same size every time. Ridiculous.

Hey mate, thanks a lot for mentioning that you use Google Camera for Panoramas. I want to purchase the Z3C but have this huge concern over the small resolution of panoramas.
Could you please upload a good highest possible res panorama image here? I want it just to check the quality of the panorama. I don't want panorama images to be limited by Sony's hardware, that's the thing. Could you please upload a full size panorama? Thanks a lot!

I have managed to get a half panorama on my Xperia Z3 (Not compact model) and when you get the photo that has grey you just need to crop it, very hard to get it perfect though becuase it still expects you want the entire sized pano -_- heres a pic of a half pano I took on my Z3.
Works fine on mine although I've found it doesn't like low light conditions, that's when it starts giving me the pan faster error...

I got the Z3C finally just 10 days ago! Haven't installed the Google Camera app as yet, as I am waiting for my MicroSD card to arrive so that I don't block up all the internal storage. Once I get it, I'll install the Google Camera app and check out the Pano on my own too.
Thanks for your help mate, appreciate it!

Am I the only one who has problem that the photos i took with HTC One look perfectly fine with great details on phone, but when being uploaded to facebook, they look completely different. The attached is an example of a blurry face and washout picture taken in Liverpool, but it was perfect when viewed on my phone. Do I have a problem with my camera?

Yes it is, is it a normal photo taken by HTC One viewed on a computer? Coz it is so much different where when viewed on my HTC One, i can clearly see my face and the saturation is higher, now when uploaded to computer my face becomes blurry and the photo looks pale

With our phones, the zoom isn't that great cause of the lack of Megapixels, but its not that blurry, if you wanted to crop out your face you shoulda had the pic taken closer. Sorry bud. As for the saturation, that seems fine to me

But i didn't zoom it before the upload, i just don't understand the difference between photos viewed on my phone and on my computer, where before the upload it looked perfectly fine on my phone. Could it be the lower ppi of my computer screen? I personally think that my HTC Incredible S takes better photos in this regard where the photos taken by it, will look the same on my computer.

No i didn't crop it before uploading it. The photos i crop on my phone still look great, but only on my phone. Do you have any explanation of the reason behind the difference between the quality of the same photo when viewed on phone and on computer? But i concur on the point that HTC One takes amazing low light shots, until i upload them on to facebook or view them on computer.

I transferred the photos to my computer before uploading it to facebook, and the size of the photos remained the same, they still don't look presentable on my computer like how it is on my phone. *sigh*. I wonder if i could get a replacement based on this reason. hahahahaha

well, not sure what kind of monitor are you using but the saturation on HTC One is one of the highest on the smartphones market today(according to GSMArena, only behind super amoled). Your phone's screen is surely much superior to your desktop/laptop display in term of contrast so it is obvious that you see much punchier color when viewing on your phone
It's a known issue coz of the big sensor and lesser pixels.

It has nothing to do with that. The sensor size is exactly the same as every other smartphone out there. Lesser pixels would not be the reason as well because when zoomed in on the phone, it's still reading the same data.

Sensor size doesn't affect resolution. You can have 16 Mpx on a tiny sensor and have much sharper but more grainy fb posts
The problem is simply that 4 megapixels isn't enough to zoom into someones face from that distance and expect minute details - that's a DSLRs job.

Hahahah i love the line 'OP should spend less time climbing on English property'. I believe I have a quite decent laptop, with 2GB Nvidia graphics card and i5 processor the screen shouldn't be too bad. But i do realise that HTC One has a better screen than my laptop screen, in terms of ppi. What makes me think i have a problem with my phone is that upon comparison with photos shared by others, mine just seem mediocre. Perhaps i should spend more time on adjusting the sharpness, contrast, etc.

This happens even when i transfer the photos to my computer and view them, they just don't look half as good as they look on my phone. I could play battlefield COD on my laptop without any lags and the graphics blew me away, so i guess screen quality shouldn't be a problem. I don't have this issue with my HTC Incredible S, the photos still look good when viewed on the same laptop.
You should actually REDUCE sharpness cos Sharpness at 0 there is still sharpness being applied through software. -1 works much better.
I'll start this off by saying I am new to this phone. I currently use this and a galaxy note 2, but for all purposes this has been my daily driver. I have been very pleased with nearly every aspect of it, but there is one small thing that has been driving me up the wall (maybe it exists but I'm simply missing it??):
Why is there no macro mode??!!??
I like to take macro shots, and because of this I cannot get nearly as close as I can on pretty much any other phone I've owned. For some reason it will not focus extremely close.
I'm so confused as to why they left this out.. The intelligent auto does next to nothing to fix it. You can get in relatively close, but not macro close. Any other fixes other than using a different camera app (if that would even fix the issue)?
I use the Lenovo app, its great and there is a macro mode.

You cannot get as close as you can with most cameras
I tested with my note 2, and others (which were able to get much closer)...
It just won't focus properly
i get good macro shots can you upload a macro shot to see what are you talking about
You can try all the applications that you want, simply won't focus under 10-12 cm.
I don't know why, but it is so.
Touch focus is better for me, Touch the object you want and your phone will try to focus
But, don't get too close, 8-12cm is the normal range for phone to take very sharp macro photos.
If you want to get closer, don't forget that crop "Digital Zoom" function, Yes it reduce the quality, but you can make better composition.

Imo for macro shot Xperia S is better than Xperia Z (I have both). With XS I can focus properly at 5-6 cm.
Not being nasty in any way, but lets remember, this is only a phone. The camera is a convenience, not a luxury. If you want great macro shots or the like then you need to be looking to either hit up a DSLR or like me head for the oldschool SLRs.

Haven't had the issue with pretty much any other phone I've owned though
I'm just not really sure why it is like this.
This kind of answer isn't really helpful though in any way.
Sony are praised for their cameras, yet they leave out a basic feature that my note 2 has, and my older x10 had.
Just seems strange

I appreciate it is a strange decision, but then so was the choice to release the add on lense things.Honestly, manufactures do slip up, and I would guess this was one of those times. It's a shame, aside from the battery bug issue and the one you are on about, the phone is near perfection.
Right.. We actually need manual focus like in the pro camera app from Nokia.. And it's now impossible since I've used manual focus on a gingerbread LG phone before.. Tried Porting the app, get fc moments after the ui shows

Why you dont shoot from 10-12 cm with goog focus and next go to crop the image with edithor - stock or something from the market.Or just use digital zoom- it is actualy real time croping. The picture is 13 mpx and have many many pixels to zoom/crop.

Besides the point though really..
It is a very basic feature, I just can't understand why it isn't there. Does the s4 have it (since it uses the same sensor I hear)?
Howdy! I've got this phone for 3 days now. One of the main reasons to choose this one, is the camera. It should give stunning pictures, right? Wrong.
I can't for the love of me get even one good picture. Each and every one is either out of focus, distorted in some way, or it looks like there's not enough light (even when the picture is taken outside).
I started out with the automatic mode. What I dislike there, is that it never chooses the max. resolution. Manual mode, I can't get it to make good pictures either; though that might be because of lack of expertise.
Is my device broken? Am I doing something wrong? Help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. I'm currently on the newest firmware. I'm running RomAur v3.2. I had the same problem on a different modified stock ROM of the latest firmware build.
I only know for good light condition, you set the ISO to as low as possible and 20mp manual and need a pair of steady hands. I still havent figure out low light condition, some ppl suggest twilight mode.
1. manual mode. the automode is bull****
2. fullsize. you can resize after the shooting^^
3. let the iso as low as possible. remember that the image becomes a little brighter than in the preview. use flash if its dark
i dont have any problems with the camera, even if taking pictures of moving obejcts in dark conditions. just stop shaking your hands and geht the iso lower^^

This is with bad lighting (Sun was shining at the cam), a view from my window. Is this the quality I should expect from this phonecam?
Inside, it's never sharp. There simply seems to be too little light to make sharp pictures. The flash does nearly nothing. The low ISO setting makes it lag very much as well, reducing the screen fps to 3 or something like that. I guess it's difficult for the device to keep up.

there are two apps much better than FV-5
1) Pro Capture: More details. Sharper pictures. aiding grid to get great shots. (but you can't manage ISO level and the max resolution is 8MPX)
2) Camera Zoom FX: Faster focus. More MPX option (18MPX resolution is available)

Mmm, can you explain me better auto mode? Do you selected a scene? Do you select single focus point or multi point?
Metering? (Can you explain this)
HDR or image stabilizer?
Do you use the hardware button to take pictures or the software one? I noticed that using the hw one after you press focus and then more to shoot produce a little movement that can make your photo bad. Am I the only one that find the camera button too hard?

what is wrong? what focus do you use?
The front camera is extremely grainy on my new z1. It would look noisy on the screen and i would assume through image processing it would clear it up. but it would do it so the quality itself is very muddy and blurry.
I was able to capture a picture of myself that didnt seem to do the image processing for some reason, and then i took another right after and it did the clearing up of the noise. I attached both. anyone has any suggestions? is this normal? the only thing i can think of is maybe my screen protector is affecting something in the light sensors? cause it isnt even over the camera.
And mind you, these pics arent in the best lighting conditions, but it wasnt very dark as you can see a window behind me. running 4.3 stock update.
Seriously? The first pic on the left is very bad. Even if I try the worse settings I do not get that kind of pictures. Man, I do not know what to say.

Before i take pictures it looks great (amazing even) as i take the photo the picture is perfect, then after a second it processes it so much i look more like an alien from outer space than a human being. Not yet. People have tried.many things but.no luck so far. At least Sony finally updated the camera app which was the same since x1 was released

geez.... Yah... my photos did not get better at all, haha. If they could just change the format to JPG or whatever (know that is big files) that would be fantastic, but nooo.... (now referring to sony and not XDA-developers) Great phone, TERRIBLE photo software.

I have a sony xperia Z C6603 and I absolutely hate something about the phone. Before i take pictures it looks great (amazing even) as i take the photo the picture is perfect, then after a second it processes it so much i look more like an alien from outer space than a human being. Not only this but the files are also ridiculously small compare to all other phones. I've downloaded the FV-5 app and it's great, but my photos from my front camera stll lokks like horse s***. i do not want other setting configurations, because nothing fixes it... Yes, Sony's post processing is ****.
Unfortunately, there is no solution as of yet.
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
if you have extensive knowledge with camera settings you could try using manual mode and set everything yourself.

That does not help with the secondary camera, it's bad quality no matter what I do.
My girlfriend has a Iphone 5 which deinitely takes better pictures than mine, I think you all agree that this is unacceptable, we must stand together and crush the underpowered Iphone with the wrath of our mighty hardware and fixed software!

we can see it two ways
the camera hardware sucks and we can't do anything about it
or the camera software sucks and we have to wait for sony to update their binaries and libraries and other stuff. which we also cannot do anything about.
I agree...when I first looked at myself trough the front camera I thought if I brought a renovated phone with a broken camera...

Yup, such a waste, it's such a great phone
Hello!
I have installed AOKP 4.3 ROM on my Xperia Z. When I need to take a fast picture, I just use auto ISO/Exposure...
When I wanna get better picture in low light, I just use a little bit tweaking In low light, when I'm taking picture of some close object, I just put ISO on 100/200 (max), use flash and that's it! When I'm taking picture a little bit further (3/4 meters), I use 200/400 ISO, and use flash if I can (very big con of our device is bad flash). When I'm doing night portrait, just put ISO on 400 and turn on HDR, photos will look awsome believe me
Tonight I could upload some pictures from my Z, just to give you some clue.
P.S. When you're using front camera, turn on HDR you will get a much better photo quality

Did you turned off 'soft tan effect'' or something like this? It helps a bit on stock ROM (Honami camera app)
I'm using AOKP ROM and I have better front camera picture quality than my friend (Galaxy S4), I just turned on HDR

I just flashed the ROM after aloooooooot of work and I currently have the PAC-MAN ROM and the picture quality is amazing. It takes pictures in JPEG automaticallly and the files aren't that big! If anyone wants to do this I can deliver some links which actually unlocks bootloader, roots and flashes ROM, looked for the right downloads for ages.
