Update today - Samsung Gear Live

I just received the 4.4W.2 update. Now to figure out what I can do with it.
I now have a "play music" after "show alarms" and right before "settings"

Battery Life drastically improved with this new update. Like the whole "saving the cards" add on.

Any new stock watch faces?

Is root working after the update?

No new stock faces.
With this new update, my gear will charge to 100% and stay there. Before the update gear would get to 99% over night charging.
About root, I'm still trying to get drivers for my gear live. My computer sees my watch on adb devices, adb fastboot and gear disappears.

Still not get there

where did you get it?
I checked my settings -> about -> system updates and it is not there. Thanks for sharing!

Just reset mine and after the sync and it was on the get started screen i went to the update setting before swiping any cards and it is now downloading. I hope that helps.

Battery life ..... on since 6am now 8 hours later 75%
This is great update

Mine finally came through today. I like that cards are transparent on the clock screen and that they stay the same size (some watch faces hidden cards where large)
Haven't looked at card saving yet

Update Time?
I have between looking at the recover "downloading" screen for an hour? How long before i should get worried? Do i reset or unplug?

What is card saving?

Aftet the update my watch face keeps going black even though its set to always on restarted resynced. Hmm I was getting through the day at about 30% usage before so im not worried about the always on drain the battery. Anyway is anyome else having this issue or is it just me, maybe an app conflict with the new update.

4.4W.2 update
I was getting black screens before this update, mainly the Chrono Watch face (best watchface i have found so far) crashed when I rebooted the watch.
Screen completely black but the watch still responds to touch.
This update seems to have fixed that.
I do see a new music option on the watch which is cool.
I resync'd my apps after the update. Rebooted a few times also.
I was happy with battery life before. Improved battery life would be great, hoping someday to get 3 to 4 days on one charge.

New compass and navigate to nearby gas station

Got the update today. I'd advise applying it when on the charger. My Gear Live had 50% battery when I started the update and after it rebooted battery was at just 10%

Similar expereince when I did mine a few days ago lol.

I had problems with the update and now I'm getting maybe 3 hours of battery life. Also, it won't install any apps. Resetting the watch or rebooting the phone doesn't work.

So i did the update over the last few days and now everytime my watch "wakes up" it always displays "OK google" when lighting up and it usually covers up any detail in the watch and once it dissapears theres only a few seconds left to read the watch before it goes dark again
is there is any way to stop the "OK google" from showing up on the screen?
its the one thing that really irritates me about the update and that it wasn't an issue with the earlier firmwares

LOL looks like to make the "Ok google" stop appearing on your watch you need to activate the voie command feature about 2 or three times before it finally goes away.
just in case anyone else has this issue

Having the exact same issue. Haven't had time to explore it any deeper, just changed it back to regular clock face and will go back once it gets better.
Same here looked at watch at 8pm and it said 130.

I was going to start a thread on this as well, noticed this one first.
Same problem, several times today - but only seems to affect Watch Styler screens. I switched to a stock one and no problems so far.

Same here. I am going to try copying the watchstyler faces locally to the gear's drive. maybe they will work better with a local install.
so I was able to adb into my gear, and ran the adb-shell command. when I do a directory list this is what I see. But I cannot see where the watch images are stored??

Rolled back my apk (losing the faces again - I'm going to start backing them u pnow!!) & no problems since.
I also noticed about 50% of my battery drained today, so I'm guessing that when the time is stuck, the battery is stuck doing *something* causing the drain as well. Only the 2nd time since I've had the watch that I've had this drain issue.

I unistalled the app from Samsung store, reinstalled it and seems to be working normal with my created faces. It was getting on my nerves too.
Mine has been hanging since the update as well. I have to either reboot my phone or disconnect then reconnect. boooo sammy!!! Get it together. On the brighter side my batter life has improved dramatically.

For me it's the Styler app (1.2?) How about everyone else?
I uninstalled the app and reinstalled but it worked for an hour or so. Back to hanging and losing time. Had to switch to stock clock faces till it gets fixed. Emailed the app developer about it.

That app is junk, I have completely given up on it (to me, it's really nothing but a gimmick anyway).
At first, I thought it was kinda cool to make a custom watch face to match my custom Note 3 home screen but then I realized the hour hand was never really accurate (as mentioned in another thread) and it froze up fairly regularly.
If that wasn't bad enough, battery life dropped quite noticeably in the watch when a custom face was in use. That was enough for me to learn my lesson.
Yep same thing here. Hangs up and won't advance the time. Very frustrating. I did not know about the battery drain though. I just got the watch and went to using a custom face right away. Will have to see how battery life is tomorrow without the app running.

Hear Rate and Pedometer Stop working

Hey all,
I was wondering if any of you have seen the heart rate and pedometer stop working all together. I have not rooted, rom'ed or done anything to this watch yet.
I have also tried reseting the device, powering it down and attempting the reading with both the google fit app and samsung heart rate app. Neither work and neither will turn on the green light that indicates the heart rate monitor is working.
Any ideas? I also have been having problems, like others, with random disconnecting and ok google commands failing to work.
Thanks.
Same problem with pedometer. Not rooted or ROM.
Help?

I restarted the Fit app, and it looks like it started counted again.

You can say "start fit", or navigate to the start menu select the fit icon manually
Yes, yesterday I realised that despite running around after people at work all day I had actually managed 0 steps. Today has had a similar work load and once again I seem to have been floating serenely around the department.
I get two sets of data for step count the Note 3 says 10k
Run "Fit" it tells me 7000 steps?
The step count on the Gear Live just started acting up.
For those having issues with the step counter did you guys use facer or something similar and add the step count? I noticed mine acted up after I added it to face. Nothing short of reseting the watch would fix it either

I'm using facer, but not to display the step count, only the time & date.
Having the same issue, where steps count stays at 0, and heart rate monitor doesnt even light up. I tried resetting the device, then tried to use HRM before any apps are installed, but still no luck.
I think it started after installing a watchface (devops time). But the problem is still there after factory reset, so I dont think its the app's problem.
Still looking for solution..
Answer for those who are looking at this issue..
Just turn off your watch and wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. (restart doesn't work)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-live/help/heart-rate-sensor-stopped-t2818335
All the sensors are alive now. Pedometer, accelerometer, HRM, compass.
I feel both stupid and relieved now.
heh I had this issue today was about to return the watch.. reset it, restarted it nothing worked then saw this and realized I never fully powered it off. Thanks!
GPe HTC One M8
With a GPe HTC One M8 (KitKat, stock) and a Samsung Gear Live, I found that my step counter stopped working when I installed Google Fit. Lots of tricks (including uninstalling 3rd party watch faces and powering off) didn't work. Uninstalling the Google Fit app fixed my problem.
Was very annoyed to find this on the Google Fit Help - Fit isn't tracking activities correctly: If you have an HTC One M8, your phone may be incompatible with Fit.
Can't tell from the help page if this is referring to the step counting built in to the M8 or something more fundamental to the Google Fit app.
For those experiencing lost steps with Google fit, there is an issue if you ate taking steps with the watch while the phone isn't moving. In any instance where the watch and phone step counts disagree the phone takes precedence.

Do you know if they are going to fix this? This has not always been the case. It used to sync with my watch and grab those steps. Why the other way around?

Fixed my connectivity and battery life

Let me preface this by saying that after changing this setting and 20 hours later with multiple separations of phone and watch, I have yet to miss a notification and battery life is much much better. My specific problems were: Watch would randomly stop receiving notifications. I would realize this after a few hours go by without any notifications and pull my phone out and see what I've missed. This would happen despite the Wear app showing 'connected' status. Another issue I had was giving a voice command and after a few seconds the watch would return a 'disconnected'message, again the Wear app showed connected. All of this under known working network connections, whether Wi-Fi or cellular. I was also experiencing what I feel is short battery life at about 14 hours per day. I've had and used the watch for two weeks now and have restarted it many many times.
The following is the ONLY thing I have changed since the major improvement in performance. I don't have the depth of knowledge to prove or describe why this worked for me, and maybe it wasn't the cause, but I (knock wood) have a perfectly operating watch now with the battery life indicating about 2 days remaining at noon today.
Go to Settings> Bluetooth> and select the settings icon on your connected device. Then select 'connection access' and choose 'automatic'. Mine defaulted to 'always ask'.. I'm guessing this caused a hangup with the connection between Wear app and watch leading to my problems.
Edit: I'll add that my phone is an LG G2 on 4.4.2 , rooted and running xdabbeb's Rom.
Edit 2: I reset my watch, synced the watch via the Wear app on phone and NOT the Bluetooth screen and now I'm running strong after two days. Made sure automatic was checked as well.
Bugger
I don't have that option in my bluetooth settings
I don't have any problems with mine so far but just checked my settings and it was on always ask.
Could anyone confirm what it should be set as? I have changed mine to automatic anyways.
Thanks for the heads up.
Phil
Not seeing that option in Android 5.0.1 on my HTC One GE. But I have not been having any of the issues mentioned in the OP.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
Here is a pic of the screen where you make selection. Always Ask is NOT what you want, which is what is pictured. Select Automatic. Sounds like this isn't available on Android 5.0 from what I see in responses so far.
I don't think I saw this option on any of the ROMs I ran, but there may be devices out there that have it and default to it, and this one would really break wear connectivity - so it may help someone someday.
I'm on 5.0, lg g3 and have both options.
Although i havnt had a problem with always ask and only switched it to automatic tonight.
Judging from the description, it will work as long as the watch stays connected, but a reconnect from the watch side would ask for confirmation (and could be possibly even silently denied under some circumstances).
Phone -> Watch = no problem
Watch -> Phone = problem
and it's possible (and likely) there are more connections going on than just the primary one, and if the connection is flaky there might be a dead one and a new one from either side...
you could just have been lucky, so far
My issues returned last night. I left my watch at home and went to dinner and out with friends, came back home after several hours. I left the watch in theater mode while I was out and over night. I woke up this morning, put watch on and realized the battery had tanked overnight and I was no longer receiving notifications, again, wear app showing connected. I looked at the battery graph for the watch and it is totally flat while I was out last night and appears to tank fast as soon as I got home and my phone was in proximity to the watch again. It's like it is constantly trying to handshake with the phone or something. The only thing that fixes this problem is a reboot of the Watch itself. I still think the connection setting was helpful because I have yet to see battery life like that or a solid link for that long. I would love to know what exactly is going on here. Bad hardware?
For the sake of comparison, I have android wear in my pull down bar saying 'connected, running sync loop' 100% of the time. It never goes away. Is this what everyone else sees?
That's what I have also since I own the watch.

Just a normal operation notification
I just discovered another possible contributor to connectivity issues: I just tried to use my watch to voice dial and after multiple attempts I got the disconnected message. I took my phone out and Wear app says connected and I had full 4G signal. My phone is set with a pattern lock. After unlocking it and checking the above mentioned, I tried the watch again and it worked. Could locking your phone have something to do with these problems?

Android Wear 2.0 update

Just manually flashed the Android Wear 2.0 on my LG watch urbane at first it was slow and laggy and but then a day or two later it straightened itself out and it was like butter.
And the purpose of this topic is?
Mine is still really laggy after about 4 days.
Mind is unusabley lethargic.
Same here. A great smartwatch has become effectively useless since 2.0. Can't even answer calls on it anymore for cryin' out loud!
My watch was incredibly laggy and had terrible battery drain too. Today I did nothing different besides turning WiFi off and the lag is gone and the battery is similar to 1.5. (Which sucks since I used WiFi quite a bit, but at least the watch is usable.) I'm going to reenable WiFi tomorrow to see if the lag returns.

The UI is fluid most of the time, notifications come without delay but functionality seems to be down. I think Google has messed up Android Wear. Needs another major update imo.

Weird that it's seemingly such a randomly different experience for each user. My UI is laggy as hell, and the notifications only seem to show when they want to! It does vibrate when receiving them but either shows nothing (leaving me to swipe up to see what it is) or auto-pops up and takes up my whole watch face! Yet if I receive a phonecall, I'm lucky if my watch acknowledges it at all! Maybe, in 2 out of 10 tries?!
... Which leads me into completely agreeing with the downturn in functionality. On the couple of occasions my watch had picked up that I'm receiving a call, it only gives me the option to hang up! (Making my paid for Wear Speaker app effectively useless.) No way to answer from the watch at all. Same goes for notifications. Email for example, I can delete, archive or reply (all on the watch only) but I can't just tap to open it on my phone like I used to be able to! YouTube video subscription notifications are just that... Notifications! As the only option is to add to the watch later list. No option to open on the phone. Nothing!
Basically, it's great that they've added functionality that enables you to use the watch without the phone... But not at the expense of cutting out the phone completely! It still needs the phone to function fully, and is STILL only a companion product to go with a phone! I seriously don't understand how they've managed to screw this up so badly even after all the delays??! ?
It is weird because enough people report your experience for it to be just in your head. My was slow for a few hours but then sped up and is nice and at least as fluid as 1.5.
I did reboot and that didn't help. Factory reset made a huge difference.
Any ideas how to downgrade? My watch is practically usless... I hate the new update they've removed every single thing that made this watch remotely usefull
Yeah this update sucks on the urbane, everything takes much longer and isn't smooth... Good timing for me since I'm getting back into shape I bought a Fitbit charge 2 and will sell the urbane if it's worth anything.. I would like the Movado Wear watch but I'll make sure it's also not underpowered before purchase..
Thanks Google!

How can I install an apk in the watch? Untill now installing it on the phone was enough, but with 2.0 release it seems that you can only install programs with the play store installed on the watch. I suppose with adb I will able to install apks but does anyone know an easier method?

In the settings on the watch there is an option for something like 'apps on phone' where you can select which apps you want to be installed from the phone instead of automatically like in 1.5. It may be an option in the Play store on the watch. I don't have 2.0 yet, waiting for my Urbane 2nd Edition update, but I've read about it.

Yeah, that option is missing now. Currently swiping down, tapping the sun symbol and then the watch-sysbol in the middle below seems to be the only way.
But at least after I did a factory reset of the watch yesterday and paired it again with my LG V10 the watch runs much smoother than before. Truth be told I have not installed all applications yet I was running on the Urbane before (like Watchmaker for example) but I will install one after another and check if the lags I had before reappear.
Mine had AW 1.1 out of the box. Upgraded to 2.0 and it was unusably laggy. Even tilt-to-wake was very delayed. "OK Google" would take over 10 seconds for assistant to come up.
My watch too has become barely useable. Google assistant can sometimes take upwards of 20 seconds to load. And there is a huge delay on my notifications, I don't even receive notifications for calls. Android wear 2.0 has definitely ruined my watch, which is sad because I love using assistant on my phone to control my Philips hue lights.
Did anyone contact LG or Google about this problem? Android Wear 2 made my device useless after just 1,5 years. That's unacceptable!

Switched from Huawei Watch 2 to LGWS - connections failing, battery abysmal

Searched and searched so posting here and will try in general thread in case it's not tied to the watch itself.
Background: IOS user for phone, have to - developer, had Apple Watch (hated it). Got myself a Huawei Watch 2 on a deal and loved everything about it except the useless bezel and tiny screen size. Seeing as I had a great experience, I started a hunt for an LGWS. Hunt because not a single store sold one and I'm in Chicago with LOTS of stores. So online we go. There too - few resellers. Finally found one. New. Manufacture date of May 2017.
The Watch 2 worked flawlessly as functions go. Sycn'd, stayed connected, battery life of full use (all functions on - obviously no LTE), brightness at 8, raise to view on, always on display on... end of the day going to bed around 10:30 still had 50% of battery left at worst! The only issue other than cosmetic that it had was WIFI would not connect so "automatically" so to speak. So when I sent a watchmaker face, I always had to go to settings, connectivity, wifi and wait until the SSID showed connected. Then all is fine. Transferred over and enjoyed.
So the LGWS shows up. I unpair the Watch 2, connect up the LGWS and love it. The display I expected, size is great for me and off to the races. Within an hour it went from 95% to 60%. I figured - setup blues. Ignore it. Let it fully bake and see what happens. Another hour later I'm at 30%... ok onto the charger we go. Did a full charge at 6pm, by 9pm it was flat.
LGWS background: GW 2.8 loaded, Watch 2 was still running 2.0. LGWS - cellular off, raise to view on, display brightness 4, wifi connected...
But here's what I noticed: on my phone, it consistently says disconnected - tap card to connect. I tried that about 20 times, no joy. Rebooted watch and phone... no joy. Reset watch, deleted app on phone and deleted Bluetooth pairing. Re-installed Wear app, re-paired watch, left all at stock settings except shut-off cellular and OK Google listening.
That last bit is the 6-9pm going totally flat.
So. Any ideas here? Things I see - 8 vs 2 OS... obviously IOS (I get it, but why did the Huawei work so well?) and there is nothing I can do about that. Don't know if I can downgrade to 2 to see if that makes a difference... if I do, will it self-update back to 8 when it gets a chance?
I really want to keep this watch - it's exactly what I wanted (short of strap change capability). I sure hope Google doesn't give up on Wear. As a Mac/IOS dev, I can easily say this is a superior platform for the user. Truly great stuff and I want it to improve and keep improving. The iWatch bigots are really missing out!
Thanks in advance for your tips.
Cheers!
Have you tried doing a reset?
When I got mine, it upgraded straight away so I thought "great", it's a clean watch, there can't be anything wrong with it.
Nope..
Apps didn't work.
Battery life was rubbish.
Did a reset when i got a new phone.
Apps worked without issue.
Battery takes me from 5am through to 9pm with 40% left at least, LTE is off but aod is on.
Yes - reset the watch to factory when I deleted the app, pairing etc - went totally to step 0 across the board, short of formatting over the phone itself. But I did one more reset after that last night and charged it all night. So far this morning (wrote most of my note locally last night, posted this morning) I'm holding up pretty well. Nothing running on the watch - bone stock with phone shut off and Ok Google off. 2.5 hours @ 91%. Fingers crossed that this was a fluke. But in my experience today is probably the fluke LOL.

Cheers!

No worries. The LGWS has been pretty decent. It seems to me that its bluetooth radio gets confused. For example, when I'm in my car, sometimes the watch disconnects or the car bluetooth disconnects. When I'm in my home office where the WIFI router is, the watch seems to disconnect as well. Beyond these weird edge cases, it stays connected and just works. The disconnecting isn't really bothering me as much as the fact that when it does, it tries to connect over WIFI and drains the battery pretty quickly. I've kind of learned to live with it and the hardware in this watch is better than the HW2. That being said, my experience with connectivity was much better with the HW2. Not sure how it's going now for those who have it. Android Wear has updated both the IOS app and the core OS and apps numerous times since I posted this. So for all I know, HW2 is doing the same thing these days. It does appear Google is trying.
As for the LGWS - go to ebay, find yourself a new one that's super cheap. I ended up getting mine for around $170 which made it a no brainer. One of these days I'll throw a SIM in it just to try it, but have bigger fish to fry at the moment.
Best of luck.
P.S. I just saw you have an android phone - so your mileage may vary and in fact will probably be MUCH better. I'm on iPhone which is 90% of the issue.
