Hi Everyone,
New member here , and am just getting up to speed with the Xperia Z. C6603
I have a Xperia Z C6603 that I got from eBay , it already has the clockwork recovery and an unlocked boot loader , after reading other threads about DRM and relocking to allow official downloads etc. I wanted to check if the previous owner had been diligent enough to copy and restore his DRM , is there a simple way to check?
I have gone to the Verify Certificates tool in the system menu , but am unsure what the correct output for a DRM's Xperia should be.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks.
Sixx

You can install the "official" updates using flashtool anytime and there is no special needs.
Only PC and the tool and the drivers.

Thanks AndroidFreak,
What i'm trying to do at the moment is using flash tool for mac , I've downloaded an unbranded rom for my Xperia Z , I'd like to flash it as i have no apps and half the functions are missing as i reset the phone to defaults before i realised it was rooted LOL
I'm getting error : no room left on device when i try to flash it , the bundle has been downloaded and prepared , any ideas or advice?
Also if i want to learn from the very beginning , is it possible to go back to out of the box state , ok minus ddm , but sony sony firmware and locked boot loader , no root etc. ?
Thanks for your advice , this sure is a nice friendly board.

Well I actually didn't used MAC's flashtool as I have windows PC.
There is another way to update. Your device is rooted. Right?
So install nut dual recovery from HERE and the stock ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/rom-ultimate-purexz-ultra-v1-t2872274
Wipe everything and install

Dual recovery has CWM. But now you don need to install anything else.
so just wipe everything from cwm and install the ROM and done!

Hi AF,
Sorry for such a noobie set of questions , maybe I'm not safe with a rooted phone LOL
I just managed to relock my boot loader , then nothing booted
Re-Run flash tool then unlocked again, brilliant CWM and phone booting again , I'm bguessing it needs a unlocked boot loader?
(won't be doing that again in a hurry)
When you say copy the Zip files to my phone , do you mean to the SD card and then install .zip from SD using CWM?
Ideally , i'd like to end up with a locked boot loader and stock firmware , sort of day 0 stuff , then leaRN from scratch , but it's a step learning curve
Sorry in advance if i sound like a lamer.

You can ask as much as you want mate
Yes I mean copy the zip to the SD card and install it using CWM.
And flashtool don't need a unlocked boot loader. May be you were running custom kernel.

Yes they will.
To go back on Sony stock kernel and firmware just flash FTF with flashtool and done. But the root and CWM recovery will wiped. You can root and install CWM any time.
And bootloader relocking. Did you made a TA partition backup before you unlock??

I'm just flashing a stock FTF at the moment , but it seems to have hung for about 10 mins , I'm a bit scared to unplug it before it ends in case i brick it?

hi everyone
i try to root my xperia v by instruction in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2654451
my rom was 9.2.A.1.210
after all done the kernel that i flash to phone was 9.2.A.1.199 according to instruction
now phone show update to 9.2.A.1.210 notification and when i instal that it show error cant update.
thanks
It's because your kernel is for 9.2.A.1.199 while your file system is 9.2.A.1.210, you can verify it in service info (*#*#7378423#*#*). Flash 9.2.A.1.199, root using that method, install android toolkit (scary alien, read carefully the instructions) to save your root, then update system through OTA or you can just try to find 9.2.A.1.210 kernel and flash it
---------- Post added at 10:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:38 AM ----------
Or try to download 9.2.A.1.210 ftf, extract kernel.sin using winrar, and flash it
Thanks
thank you so much . extract 9.2.A.1.210 ftf worked for me

Hello,
I have installed a 4.3 stock-rom with root (10.4.1.B.0.101) on my C6603.
Now I want to update to 4.4.2 (10.5.A.0.230), but it doesn't work!
I can not install the original rom from Sony, OTA doesn't work and via companion it tells me I have a other software installed and upgrade is not possible!
Can anyone help me with this? Where can I get the original 4.4.2 rom to install?
Is there a way to upgrade and keep the root?
Best regards

Thanks a lot for the quick feedback, but now I have some more questions:
I have Clockworkmod 6.0.4.6 installed, is there a way to flash it via this recovery?
And is there also a german/austrian rom-version available, or is it the same with the US version?
Actually I wanted to upgrade it according to the description from doomlord here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/cwm-based-recovery-6-0-4-6-root-xperia-t2167381 since I'm already familar with the process, but all what is missing there is the stock rom... so would it also work if I use the rom from your description and flash it via the recovery?
And will I always loose my settings and data with the update or is there a way without loosing it?
Thanks again for your support,
best regards

Okay, actually there are two questions from my side:
1. Is ist possible upgrade my existing rooted Android 4.3 to a rooted 4.4.2 without loosing my settings and data on the phone?
2. Can I achieve this by updating the stock rom and then the kernel according to the description of doomlord?
=> If yes, where can I get a german version of the Android 4.4.2 (stock rom) and how can I install it (keep point 1 in mind)?
I hope this makes my question more clear, thanks for your help again!

and then I should have the the 4.4.2 rooted, did I understand that correct?

Thank you all for your support, I now made it!
Short summary for all who have the same problem like I had:
1. I installed the stock-rom via flashtool according first feedback from androidfreak70 in this thread and unchecked all "wipe" boxes in flashtool for that all data and settings are kept.
(Additional info: if you want to use the stock-rom supplied via sony companion, and you can like me not install it due to previous rooted ROM, follow this thread.)
As androidtweaker1 mentioned, custom recovery and root was lost, but all other data/settings are kept.
Therfore I then
2. Installed Towelroot according to this description and there we go, everything works perfect!
So thank you once again,
best regards

Hi.
I recently bought myself the xperia z to play with, I don't have a computer so couldn't root it how I'm used to doing it (I'm not new to rooting, custom roms and kernels etc)
So yeah, like a fool I updated it to 4.4.2 without thinking, and it's mega and I mean MEGA slow!
I wasn't to test roms and kernels on it, but for love nor money, it will not go into recovery mode, searched Google, tried all recommended ways but nothing, just boots up normal :annoying:
I've rooted it with towelroot, which was successful, installed SU and BusyBox etc. Tried using rom manager to get a recover installed but just says there isn't one available :-/
Also tried flashify but again, nothing, just crashes after a few mins of what I presume it is searching.
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong please? All help would be massively appreciated.

Maybe you are new to sony devices because these devices do not have a separate partition for recovery.
Try THIS for TWRP
AND
Is it really that slow compared to 4.2.2 ??
Oh do they not? Google has mislead me then. Yes I'm fairly new to sonys, owned a few but never before rooted etc.
And yes, it is ridiculously slow, I have to reboot it like every 30 mins since updating from 4.3.
Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated

You don't need a PC.
Just download XZRecovery.apk from the link I gave you and install it on your phone.
Open XZRecovery app on phone and then click 'install recovery '
Thats it. Done you have recovery.
Sony phones don't come with stock recovery at all.
And yes I just updated to 4.4.4, the phone just lags alot lot.
Tried that and it failed, also, my phone will not boot now, just keeps on vibrating, from experience I think its to do with the kernel, but no computer to fix it

I think I have a battery problem.
A couple of days ago it just started bootlooping out of the blue. I can get into Recovery and reflashed ROM (beanstalk). Didn't help. I flashed stock (newest .283) in flashtool. It flashes ok but still will not boot past SONY screen.
After doing this several times here's what I see: It will boot fine and allow me to setup/install/update without problem, but *only* when connected via USB to my computer. The moment I unplug (even though battery reads 50% or 72% or 99%---I've done this many times now) it shuts off like you flip a switch either immediately or within 2 minutes of unplug. I reset (via power and vol up) and I get a SONY screen and then all goes dead again. Will not boot w/out USB plugged in.
Maybe a red herring, but it seems consistent now.
Any thoughts? No recent drops/water/new app install prior to problem that I'm aware.
Thanks--

Thanks for the assists. It was on PACMAN when it started, and we've flashed Beanstalk, rooted Stock from Zippy and Sony's Stock...complete wipes each time.

How would PC Companion be any different than Flashtool? I thought both rebuild the partitions when flashing ftfs. I used Flashtool for the Stock flashes and TWRP for the Beanstalk flash. Again wiping everything each time.
Thanks again--

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try even though I think Flashtool does this same thing.
Tried to repair the phone, but PC Companion wouldn't do the update/repair due to modified software on the phone...Do I need to relock the BL or just return to pure stock for PCC to work?

PCC won't work with unlocked BL. But it's the same thing, PCC or Flashtool, so if you have the same problem after reflashing it via Flashtool it's probably a hardware problem. ( battery or mbo)

Download the latest flashtool version and use different FTF file.
BTW that sound booster mod don't even need unlocked bootloader....
So you unlocked your phone without reason.

Yeah. It will wiped. Because the /system partition will deleted. Then the update tool will install another one.
