[Q] There is no SU Binary installed - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i recently got my replacement phone and i decided to root it just like my old phone. Ive had a Galaxy s 4 before and i was able to root it with CF auto root in the past. When i try now odin says pass but i get the binary error. Ive tried reflashing, wiping data and cache, TWRP method and i even got another phone but no prevail. I have checked the files and they are all recent and updated and i have also updated my drivers. Please tell me what im missing or if y9u have any idea why this is happening. Thank you for your time! Yes I did and I'm sure I downloaded the right one. I'm getting the error when I open up the SU application.

re-download supersu from the play store and let
it install, reboot the phone and all should be good.

What I have done in the past is used root explorer and gone in and deleted the apk myself and rebooted. No uninstall from play store or things like that. That is if root explorer works since you root might be messed up. If that don't do it. Odin back to stock and fresh download every file. Check md5. Start all over. Sorry man

Okay in that case you forgot to enable usb debugging in the phone.
Go to settings and navigate to "about" then scroll down until you see
"build number" once you find that click on it many times until it tells
you that developers option enabled and then go into developers options.
Then check the box which says: "usb debugging" to enable it.
Once that's done odin flash cf-autoroot again and that should
fix your supersu / root issue.
Good luck!

I didnt forget usb debugging. I will try flashing stock i guess

NOTE 4

I unrooted to stock and deleted all the files i was using. I redownloaded everything and ran the process over again. This time it worked and i didnt get the error messages. Thanks to all that replied!!

Issues with One-Click?

I just tried running the one click method. I had USB debugging enabled, upgraded to the latest drivers, and ran the exe. Everything said it was successful, I rebooted again, and installed Titanium Backup, and it's telling me it was unable to access root. What gives?
Do you see Superuser on your phone? Doesn't sound like the one click was successful, did you use a Mac? The one click was broken earlier for Macs, seems to work now though.

I would manually type the root method into adb, then use the one click app to automatically push su and stuff to the phone. That seemed to work really well for me.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
Thanks for both of your suggestions. For whatever reason, doing a second reboot on the phone seemed to work. I noticed SU was indeed installed, but TB wasn't finding root. After the 2nd reboot poof TB found root and all is well. Admin can close/lock this thread or I guess keep it open if others happen to have issues with One-Click to consolidate some threads. From what I've been reading one click is damn near bulletproof though.

[Problem] Wifi isnt working after "rooting" I9305

Hello there everyone, total noob here.
I have tried to "root" my S3 LTE using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-cf-root-cwm-recovery-ported-supersu-t1914394 (or more likely this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45291825&postcount=306 ). Everything went great, Odin has shown a pass and it was successful while installing CWM, then I installed Supersu through CWM (only thing I did differently was putting a supersu zip file on internal storage) and that was a success too. I did everything like it said, even without plugging out my phone. After rebooting everything went down...
1. Knox is blocking SuperSU, someone reccmmended that I should have tried to disable it by installing supersu.apk manually, but then it has shown a popup that supersu doesnt have access to binary files. I have checked with root checker and it said that device isnt rooted...
It wouldnt bother me much, because having root isnt necessity for me, but...
2. I cannot access internet via wifi. It connects to router, signal is pretty decent, but still, when I try to use a build-in browser/chrome it just doesnt connect. Nevertheless, I can connect via 3/4g with no problems at all.
Now, I dont have root AND internet access.
Other info that might me useful:
Android 4.3
Null IMEI: no
Baseband: i9305XXUEMK1
I have performed factory reset, still no use.
Any help regarding repairing wifi, getting root access or bringing back state before "rooting" would be appreciated.
Regards,
Maziu92.

Just download the "SuperSU version 2.02" apk and install it. Its provided in this thread. (its newer than whats currently on Google play)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...covery-i9305-cwm-philz-twrp-versions-t2694249
It will ask to disable KNOX. select YES.

The best thing i can suggest you is moving to the new 4.4.4 Stock Rom

Oh, I did it, that's why it said the binary was missing. But I did it other way around:
1. I have flashed CWM like it said in second link provided in first post
2. Installed SuperSU 2.02 from zip file on internal card though CWM instead of file provided in thread (I could have installed remove-boot-recovery too, but I didnt notice that I needed that. Anyway, I did that later)
3. Rebooted and tried to turn on - supersu was still blocked by knox :/ BUT!
4. I have installed manually supersu.apk, then opened it via installator (important! Dont tap 'done' but 'run'!) and next I didnt get the "missing binary" popup but if I want to disable KNOX. Well, yeah, I do, so I tapped OK and it looped and looped... http://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys5/comments/2a92qq/supersu_stuck_disabling_knox/cisq087 found this soulution and it worked (reboot phone and start supersu again). Sorry about my short memory, but I think I needed to install supersu.apk manually again and tap disable once more time, but disabling KNOX took a few seconds.
5. And then I went to the settings in Supersu and tapped option 'install supersu into /system', rebooted and it worked fine!
5.a To make sure it really works I downloaded (via 3g ) Root checker and it said it is rooted.
So now I have root, yaay, but still no Wifi access :/

I have been using odin 3.07.
Really, It is the only way to get back wifi? Are there any other options apart this?
Nooby questions:
-will it work with my phone? It says that its "MODEM: I9305XXUFNI3" and mine is XXUEMK1.
-in the meantime I have read about efs files/folder, what are they for and should I somehow backup them?
-while flashing 4.4.4 it is possible that my IMEI will go null?
-will it be possible to go back to 4.3?
I dont want to brick it or anything, thats why I am asking.
And of course, thanks for your help, Tharinduwijewardane ^^
Edit:
Actually, I have managed to repair my WIFI connection without flashing new rom etc.... So what was wrong, you will ask? Me.
I have downloaded adblock (before factory reset) and it asked to connect via proxy, so I did. And then I have disabled it because it was blocking SuperSU along with KNOX. And my phone tried to connect with internet via proxy, but it couldnt, because of this configuration.
Found this by complete coincidence (my GF told me to check if I get connection though Chrome and it said that it cant connect because of proxy settings). It is strange that this configuration was still there, even after factory reset.
Oh well, case solved, thanks again for helping and even everyone else for checking this out^^
glad to hear u got it fixed.

SuperUser no binary

I decided to go ahead & root my S6 using the PingPong Root found here.
All went correctly, but when I go to open SuperSU I get the error 'There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!'
Any ideas on how to go about installing the binary needed? Thank you!

Uninstalled both SuperSU & PingPong Root. Reinstalled and had got the same error as before.
This method is in beta, could the binary not be uploaded yet?

What happens when you run get root on pingpong? Sounds like it's not rooting you. Either 1) you did not open supersu before you ran get root on ping pong. Or 2) it failed to get root (either it tells you failed or it reboots automatically due to kernel panic). If your not getting a pop up saying root was successful, reboot now is recommended, then your not rooted.

I don't get that pop up. But my device does reboot.
I tried opening SuperSU prior to PingPong, but it only has the original error 'no binary'. After you press okay, it prompts you to installing SuperSU once again? Odd... Once you install the 'new version' and open that, it'll automatically open PingPong. From there I select 'Download data' then 'Get Root!'. Which then tells me to wait with a popup, and that is when my S6 reboots.
Ok. Now leaving supersu and pingpong installed, reopen pingpong, cancel the install of supersu. Place the phone on a flat surface. Try just 'get root' again. Sometimes background processes can flip out when pingpong panics the kernel to elevate it's privlages. It's taken me 4 or 5 tries a few times I've used pingpong (others only 1 time, I've had to Odin my S6 about 30 times so far lol)

Thanks for the prompt response Dennis!
I opened PingPong, canceled the install of SuperSU, then selected 'Get Root!'. Says my device is not supported (Though it is in the thread for PingPong). I select download data, (Says Device updated, please try Get Root again.) then I select get root. Unfortunately it reboots my S6 after about 2-4 seconds. I'll keep trying!
Aye, do the same steps I said, but add the download data before get root. Try to do it after everything settles from boot but before starting anything else.

Edit* Uninstalled both applications, and installed the 5.1 beta. When I select download data, it says to retry the Get Root as usual. Then I select Get Root, and it says 'Your device data is still not supported'.
Here's the quote from Idler in the thread. With option C. he says to possible do a factory reset? I have all of my contacts & photos backed up via my pc. Should I possible try and do a reset? Or do you think it's a waste of time.
Q: It just keeps rebooting, what can I do?
A: The exploit may panic the kernel and reboot your device. If the data is off, same could happen as well. When issue happens, try these:
a. Clean up background process before running root.
b. Turn on airplane mode after clicking "Download Data".
c. Backup your data and run factory reset.
d. Definitely avoid doing anything else when "wait!!!" appears.
If these doesn't help after 5 retries, there could be some issue, please collect the information in /proc/last_kmsg and send it to me.
Note: User reporting installing My Knox or enable other Knox feature (like enterprise provision or KNOX active protection) may cause reboot loop. Be cautious!

Alright. Best bet. Is reboot. Let settle. Set screen timeout to 10 mins. Turn off all apps you have running in the background. Open pingpong. Download data. Turn on airplane mode. Place on desk. Run root. Don't touch until hopefully it says your rooted. Of course you'll need to I stall beta 6 again before you do the above.
If trying that 5 times doesn't work you'll have to head over to the pingpong thread cause I'm fresh out of ideas lol.

Yay or nay towards a reset? I have a feeling I'll go through the hassle of resetting my phone & I'll have the same error.
Back up with smart switch. Reset but do not download any app but pongpong. That should help with the error, as it's cause by apps in the background running usually. After root restore via smart switch. All your apps come back, just not the app data unfortunately

Dennis, you are a legend! Finally got my S6 rooted after 2 long days.
Decided to go ahead and backup everything on my phone and do a complete factory reset. I did like you had said and only installed PingPong. Booted up the application, got a shut down like I did previously. Tried again, but closed all my running apps and when I was prompted to install SuperSU (even though it was installed when I ran it the first time) I went ahead and installed it once again. And voila, the root went successfully!

Glad to hear, now you just have to restore all your apps and stuff. I'd suggest titanium backup, back everything up and transfer to your computer. That way if you ever have to Odin you have all your apps set up and such for when you reroot after. Store them off the phone as Odin will wipe your phone completely usually.

When you phone boots up, does it show a unlocked padlock? When you put towelroot on it and click to "make it rain" does it say "You should now have root, no reboot required" or " This phone isn't currently supported"? Uninstall Supersu restart phone and install Supersu again. It shouldn't be giving you any problem as this is the only baseband that can be rooted.

[SOLVED] Safe to continue?? or start again? please help

This is driving me nuts... I was on 5.1.1 and I am trying to get it rooted.
I'm following a guide which goes like this..
1. downgrade to kitkat 4.4 using flashtool
2. root 4.4
3. Install custom recovery
4. Flash 5.1.1 pre-rooted zip
I have had problem after problem and I think something may have screwed up along the way.
I finally managed to get kitkat installed using flashtool and a generic C6903 .108 ftf.
Problem 1... I used 'Easy Root tool' from xda to root kitkat... but it seemed to hang at the cleaning up' stage - is this a problem?
Problem 2... every time I restart my phone - kitkat asks what language etc. Whats that all about?
PROBLEM 3. The guide Im following says to install busybox after rooting kitkat.
I've tried 2 different busybox installers and both of them fail when trying to install bb.
QUESTION: Are these 3 problems linked and will it prevent me from continuing with the guide I am trying to follow??? i.e. do I need busybox to install XZ Dual Recovery and therefore a pre-rooted zip?
Root Checker basic says kitkat is rooted, as does the first busybox installer.
I'm taking a short break from this nightmare, so in the meentime if any of you chaps could advise me on whether or not its ok to continue or if I have fecked up the whole process, that would be great.
Thanks in advance
problem 1 : re run the installer again, don't use administrator mode
problem2 : use any simcard on your phone
others, sorry i have no idea, you could download busybox from playstore ?
I would just start over and try a different root program. busybox is failing to install because the root didn't work.

Problem1... thank you, I'll try again

others... yeah mate, tried 2 different installers from play store - no joy with either.
Thanks for your help

Cheers bud, I'll try 'easy root tool' once more without admin priv, if its the same story I'll start over and try a different root tool. Any suggestions on that?
Also: how come root checker says I'm all good and rooted but busybox wont install? even one of the busybox installers says "Your device is rooted"!?!?
Thanks for all the help mate
i think you don't have supersu installed, and busy box couldn't get root rights
so download supersu from playstore, open it and update binaries as normal, then reboot
and you would be able to install bb

Try the suggestion made by @Gamer4Life, just in case you somehow got root but it failed to install the APK needed to manage it. Might save you some work. That would explain why everything thinks you're rooted.
As for an alternative, if you still need it, I think I used kingroot successfully on 4.4.4.

Thanks mate. I was hoping Gamer4life might be right as there was no Supersu installed.
I installed supersu from play store no problem... but when I try to update binaries it says' update failed. Please reboot and try again.'. tried reboot but same story.
I guess I'll try 'easy root tool' again and then will give kingroot a bash if needbe.
One last pre-emptive question...
If I root kitkat using kingroot... should I replace kinguser with supersu before proceeding with XZDR and a pre-rooted zip or will kinguser be sufficient to continue.
Many thanks to you and everyone else who has tried to help me with this clusterf*ck,.. I appreciate it
can you screenshot the error you got ?
i reread your op, you don't need busybox to install dual recovery, it installs like the easy root installer, very easy
just one click and you are ready to go
also xzdualrecovery will root your device and install supersu by default if you have kitkat, so you can skip that.
edit (i don't think this will work because towelroot doesn't work on z1 4.4.4 108)

must have been a glitch in the matrix mate becuase its now working (Possibly thanks to your suggestion of installing Supersu?).
I reconnected to PC in order to give 'easy root tool' another crack at it.
As soon as I start install.bat It says checking if device is rooted AND I get a superuser request on my phone for adb.shell - Happy days!
I granted root access to adb shell and the root tool says Job Done. Root success etc.
So I disconnect and try to update su binaries and it worked first go!!!
*Touch wood* I think I'm now past the tricky part and it should be plain sailing from here on in. lol
THANKS for the help Gamer4Life, and everyone else who has chipped in.... hopefully my next post will be to report a fully rooted 5.1.1 :fingers-crossed:
