[Q] Screen Protector? - Samsung Gear Live

Are you using one? If so, what's your primary motivation for having one? If not, what are you general thoughts on screen protectors for the watch?
Anyone become a screen protector "convert" by having something happen that scratched the watch face?
Please participate in the poll and share your other thoughts in this thread.
I purchased my Samsung Gear Live, from someone who had already installed a screen protector. A Zagg version. I really enjoy the watch. But I stopped using screen protectors on my phones years ago. Since they seemed to inhibit touch sensitivity and the glass on phones is rather strong these days. But with this watch, I'm not sure how strong the glass may be, but I do feel my touch sensitivity is inhibited by the screen protector. I usually bump my watches into things, but with traditional watches they never got scratched. I'm not sure how well this watch face would survive some bumps. And there's plenty of cases, where people are selling this watch on Ebay and saying theirs has a "small scratch". So it does seem to be something that is occurring.

Amazon but it come with the Note 3 screen protector too. No idea on the quality but it is a tad expensive. Not heard of the brand either.
I want to know what the screen is made of. Can you imagine how odd it is to wear a watch with a plastic screen protector on it?

Sources say the Gear comes with sapphire glass, which is very hard. I'm not planning on using a screen protector on the Gear.

Indeed. if it is true that the Gear has a sapphire glass then only a diamond can scratch it. Diamond rates 10 on the Mohs scale and sapphire glass a close 9. I collect watches and those with a sapphire glass simply don't scratch.
The only question I have in my mind is how on earth have Samsung managed to use sapphire glass?. The cost of such a watch crystal would be the total price of the watch. Sapphire watch glass is a small, or large, fortune!
This one puzzles me. Anyone seen an official Samsung written spec sheet stating sapphire as the crystal?
Best wishes.
On Amazon.com I see GG and GN3 bundled screen protectors and while the screen its saphire crystal the edge around it is metal so I would prefer not to scratch the metal up.
I did find Skinomi has one up by itself here http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi®-Tech...&sr=8-2&keywords=Galaxy+Gear+Screen+Protector
Just read the online Samsung manual and notice they specifically write NOT to use a screen protector on the gear.
I think they are talking about a screen saver like your computer has or some animated screen motion since it would just kill the battery.

"Do not use a screen protector. This causes sensor malfunctions."
Above taken from the manual
I read that also. Do not use a screen protector.

Well that clears it up, but the way the post I replied to was written and now edited are different. So no screen protectors, ok, I can live with that. But someone should really tell the damn screen protector companies otherwise they are going to wreck a lot of GG devices.
They also said not to use screen protectors in the Note 1 and Note 2 manuals.
The S Pen and touch works fine with screen protectors on.
I think they say more to cover their own butt.
If anyone does have a problem, then they can tell them to try without the screen protector first. They have no control over the quality of third party screen protectors or the materials used.

The screen is said to be made from sapphire crystal. With this in mind it will certainly not need a screen protector.
Gorilla glass by Corning or Dragontrail is hardened glass not sapphire so will need protection at present. Both manufacturers make it clear their glass is scratch resistant NOT scratch proof. The only material that can mark sapphire glass is diamond or, of course, a sapphire.
To give you an idea, on the Moh scale diamond scores 10, sapphire glass scores 9.
Hope this helps?

[Q] Tempered glass screen protector?

I know that the phone is fairly new, but does anyone know of available tempered glass screen protectors for the Droid Turbo other than the Verizon brand? Is there an ETA for anything so far? I usually just order through Amazon, but haven't seen anything that was noteworthy yet.

There are some difficulties in making a glass screen protector for the turbo's screen because of the curved glass edges. The issue is that the screen protector naturally wants to pull away to a flat like state. Because of this, you see very few companies offer tempered glass protectors for devices with the curved glass edges, and most people report a poor experience with them, as the edges release from the glass, thus making it easy for the screen protector to get pulled off.
A few solutions that have been tried are the company making the protector a bit smaller than the screen, to avoid the curved edge, but then you don't get full coverage, and have a sharp / noticeable edge from the screen protector. The other solution is to make it thinner / more pliable, but that raises its own issues (cost, loss of protective qualities).
I know Zagg is working hard on developing a tempered glass screen protector that will work with the curved glass screens, thanks to the iPhone 6 plus having this type of screen, but it could be awhile before they release it, let alone it trickles down to other devices. Once they figure it out, though, it should spread to other protectors (given most off brand protectors are made by one of the Chinese manufacturers of Zagg, just rebranding them, and likely lowering quality control a bit).
Okay, so I found 2 new entries on Amazon for the glass protectors. One is the Casebase brand and the other is the Orzly brand. The Casebase comes with 2 protectors and seems to have a better fit for the front-facing camera. I would post the links, but I'm a newbie so I can't yet. Lmk what you guys think about them.
Verizon has the tempered glass in their stores, I bought mine when I received the phone 2-3 days into the launch!

Looks like these are the thicker 9h ones with rounded edges too and the prices are rather cheap. I going to give it a few weeks until the crappy verizon tempered glass starts lifting then give one of these a shot. Thanks for posting!

I used a 85% off today. I can't remember what exactly it was but I just did a google search for coupon code.
I'm going to go ahead and try out the Xtremeguard Spartan tempered glass screen protector. I wish there was a 90% off coupon, but I settled with the 80% since I've been waiting on a decent glass protector for awhile now. I'll let you guys know how it is once I put it on, but I don't know if my opinion would be all that valid since this will be my first glass protector.
The Zagg glass for the iPhone 6, 6 plus, and Note 4 with curved screens are already available and work perfectly. I would say the fact that it isn't currently available for the Turbo has more to do with it being a Verizon exclusive than anything else.

I just looked up the one for the six and six plus. What are they doing that's different from anyone else? Its just smaller then they call it case friendly lol I expected some new technology on the curve I guess. The only solution I've ever seen for tempered glass on a curved screen as they just make it smaller so it doesn't reach the curve.

It isn't really noticeable while just looking at the product, but the Zagg's now have a curvature equal to that of the curve of the screen. The first wave of Zagg Glass panels for the 6, 6+, and Note 4 were all defective. They peeled up at the edges and would never lay down completely flat (I work for Best Buy I install 30-50 of them a week.) The second round of shipments had ironed out whatever kinks were causing the imperfect fit.

I'm confused as to why you would want a screen protector on a Gorilla Glass screen with a free replacement warranty? Is there something I'm missing, or is there something else special about these tempered glass screen protectors?
As for me, I've never broken or even scratched a screen in the last 10 years. Guess I'm lucky.

I used to be one of those people too. I had never cracked a screen in my life because I always take care of my phone, but it all changed when it happened to my HTC One. Accidents happen and I'd rather lose a screen protector than have to use that free screen replacement. I think 10 bucks is a reasonable price to spend to protect a $600-700 phone, especially when i plan on keeping it for the foreseeable future. I still don't completely understand using bulky cases, but that's probably because I baby my phone.
Spartan glass received today - put it on and took it off - the curved glass edges do not stick and looks terrible - asking for refund

I have never carried a screen protector on my phone previously either as I felt the quality was utter **** on them and I won't look at one with bubbles and crap in it.
The tempered glass ones don't peel up or bubble (when they are not defective and are installed correctly.) They are PERFECTLY clear, don't obscure the screen at all, and they feel just like touching the actual screen. I truly consider them to be poor man's insurance.
Gotcha. Thanks

[Q] Has anyone scratched or broken the glass on your LG G Watch R?

I have seen plenty of reports of bezel damage, but none of screen damage. And finding out the type of glass used is difficult.
Wondering if the tempered glass proctor I am using is a waste...
Well, can't say that's a bad response to this question. So many views, so little scratches. Looking forward to mine, coming in the mail.
I've got a tempered glass protector on mine, but haven't felt that it's been 'needed' at any point.

Same here. It's just more a comfort for an event that is statistically unlikely to happen at this point. The bezel, which does take the dings, protects the watch face very well from anything hitting it directly.
I have an IQ Shield on mine which is awesome. I also put a slickwrap on mine. The other day I bumped the screen pretty good and the screen protector was damaged. My take is better to have it on there than have something happen and regret it. They ship 6 protectors in the package and you don't even know its there. I always use glass ones but i didn't like it on my friends watch and from previous phone experience they stay on like glue so i suspect if there was an issue it wouldn't be fun to remove.
Wish I had the tempered glass. I have a cracked display now
I had 2 small scratches, so it is possible to scratch! Currently at lg for repair, started lighting up in pink pixels, unrelated to the scratches. I hope they can fix the watch, and I hope it ships back with a new screen, time will tell. I plan on getting a screen protector when I do get the watch back
Cracked Screen
Totally destroyed the glass on mine at the end of last week, will be contacting LG on Monday to find out about the possibility of a repair.
Don't know how I broke it, it was a the end of quite a long night out, if you know what I mean!!
Luckily the touch screen still works, so I'm hoping it is just a case of LG doing a repair and charging me an arm and a leg, probably go for a toughened screen protector from now on.
Broken.
So i was out today on my delivers and came across some little S***s that started throwing stones at me. One hit the screen completely shattered... didn't realise at the time, if i had i would totally be beating the **** out of them.

Are screen protectors necessary?

I just got my tablet today and I was wondering if screen protectors are really necessary? do they really help prevent dust from sticking and fingerprints? I heard applying screen protector decrease accuracy and I was wondering if that's true?

I always use matte screen protectors on all my mobile devices and I would never buy a notebook with a glossy screen (only matte screens).
That way you avoid reflections from windows behind you, lamps etc.
No, never had screen protectors on any of my devices. They are pointless unless you really abuse your device.
Manufacturers make the effort to make a device with a great screen, slim with oleophobic coatings and then people go and negate all that by sticking a piece of cheap glass or plastic over it, which then spoil the touch and look of the device.
The manufacturers could do the same thing, but who would buy it then?
I'm sure there will be loads of counter arguments as to why they are great and they maintain the screen for better resale value, which is all well and good, but why buy a device, not enjoy it and use it as intended just so someone else can get the benefit when you sell it? :what:
I think that's so untrue. If you get a good screen protector and apply it well , a clear one, the touch is just as good and you wouldn't even know it's there with peace of mind knowing it's protected . You might not think it's scratching but screen without protection over time will get a lot of surface scratches. Drop it once on the screen there no going back
What kind of screen does our Tab S2 have? If our Tab S2 have the Corning Gorilla Glass 3... then we do not need any screen protector.
Why? Just watch scratch test of any phone with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen and you will know it will resist any scratches. One example... search in youtube for THL T200 scratch test... they used the tip of a sharp swiss knife as a stylus, and no scratches whatsoever... that's how good screens are nowadays.
I used to be one of those who sticks a screen protector as soon as i buy a device... but not now with the progress they had with screens and making it scratch proof and almost unbreakable.
...

No oleophobic coating..

It seems P10 does not have display oleophobic coating, super weird. I wonder how annoying is this in real life usage..
It comes with a screen protector preinstalled.
Still... I usually don't use screen protectors. Sounds stupid not to use coating
Yes it comes with a protector, but it is a huge smudge magnet (compared to Mate 9).
I'm glad I got to try it first in a store. It's incredibly annoying and as soon as I placed one finger on the screen smudges appeared and were there to stay. Seriously you have to see it and try it in real life, the difference between this and having the usual coating is night and day.
I don't want to use no screen protector, it's ugly and it completely defeats the purpose of having 2.5D glass. Such a shame.
Horrible. I just ordered mine. I don't get it, how can a serious company skip this? And how come ONLY ONE reviewer mentioned this?
It's an odd choice, but it has not bothered me yet. I did remove the pre-installed screen protector because it doesn't swipe smoothly.
Makes sense, why keeping a screen protector when you have Gorilla 5 and beautiful design? So you haven't notice any extra dirt on the screen because of the non-oleophobic coating?

I had a P10 on pre-order with CPW but after watching several video reviews my eyes were drawn to the horrid screen protector and the way there are gaps all around it. Once I saw it, I couldn't stop seeing it and knew I couldn't live with it on a daily basis. Given the 2.5D glass, all screen protectors would have these gaps. Then I was getting concerned about future updates - I spend an unhealthy amount of time getting excited about updates, lol and there are no guarantees with Huawei.
My top two phone features (assuming all else is at least good) are camera and regular updates. This led me to the Google Pixel. I bought one on Monday - a beautiful black 32GB model which now sports an excellent Nillkin frosted hard protective case - also in black. It looks amazing.
According to Huawei there is oleophobic coating on the screen, but less than usual. Apparently it's because the fingerprint sensor doesn't work well with the coating (as the fingerprint sensor is under the glass and not a separate button as on most other phones).
I'm not a screen protector fan either...so if it sucks I will probably try to apply a oleophobic coating on my own (shark proof coating or something like that)
I should be receiving my P10 on Friday and i did order Shark Proof ahead of time just because i personally don't like screen protectors at all so i'm hoping it will do the trick.
Never heard of Shark Proof until now. Is it really working?

Huawei's official response is that they couldn't apply a full coating to the P10 display because of the fingerprint sensor. On the P10 the sensor is part of the display itself rather than a separate button and the oleophobic coating wouldn't allow it to work. The P9 sensor is on the back so I would assume the lack of a coating is P10 specific.
I tried 3 different liquid protectors on my old iPhone 5, But they're not that good as the companies say. All three, Kristall, Shark proof and Wowfixit, didn't work properly. A coin or a key in the same pocket while walking and this protectors will scratch.
The biggest problem with those liquid protectors is that you can't see them so you don't know if they're working or not.
I have a "like glass" protector on my P10 and its feeling good. The sensors on top and the finger print sensor are cut out precisely and there's only a small gap between the smart cover case I'm using and the protector.
I work as an electrician and I need protection for my phone because sometimes I have no time to think about the things I put in my pockets, but my i6S with case and glass looks like new after 1.5 years of using and I hope the P10 will do the same.
What "like glass" protector would you recommend? I tried a few protectors back in the day and I hated how it felt when touching the screen...

I have one from "dipos". It's not perfect but it's okay for 7€ for 2 protectors.
The lack of accessories is annoying. It was much easier to find a good protector for my i6S.
Tried my pre-installed screen protector.... it was bad !!!..... feels like fifty cents cheap protector... anyone can comment if remove it will be better ? the pre-installed is not even smooth to use...
waiting for the matte protector......
I removed the preinstalled protector as soon as I put my finger in it...the screen is quite smooth to use for me, though I have problems if water droplets land on it...other then this it feels the same way my old LG G5 did.
I recommend you to try it and check how it feels...at least until your new protector arrives
