[Q] App to launch app on phone / google voice - Samsung Galaxy Gear

So the s-voice has proven fairly limited to Google Now. I've managed to get Google now (on my phone) to intercept and listen to command from my Galaxy Gear 1 stock (setting in Google Now to listen from Bluetooth). However, what would complete the equation is if I can launch Google Now from the GG. Is there an app that can do this? Preferably hook into the Power button on GG, but would I would settle for a simple widget on screen.
I've also tried the Null 23 ROM, but what I've noticed is the Google Now Bluetooth listening functionality no longer worked after that (nor did the camera app that came with NULL rom!). Since the listening part doesn't work, the only option left was to make the GG handle Google Now directly on the gear, which is not optimal (shifting more processing to watch = more processing/battery drain/slower/more mod/tethering to deal with etc)
I'm using Tmobile Note 4. I would prefer not to have to root if possible. Any help/ideas greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I'm running null 23 with my note 3 and the listening function on Google now works. You have to enable it in settings. Combine this with tasker and tasgear, and you'll get exactly what you're seeking. Search in this forum.

I'm on the Tmobile Note 4. To get Google Now (in the phone) recognition via Bluetooth, did you have to do any special config after you installed the null 23?
Also, is there any easy way to work on Tasker on the gear? After playing with custom ROMs and configuring on the gear, it doesn't seem that fun typing with fat fingers :X
Also, are you tethering with PDAnet or standard Bluetooth tether? The PDANet route with xpose framework still feels unstable (Voice on the Gear as standalone would not recognize my commands).

Same thing. Tasgear and tasker on Nul Rom,
Gear shortcut to launch tasker task to use taskger start tasker task on phone.
Tasker on phone turns on screen and launches google now
Google now on phone uses BT to listen to the gear
Tethering isn't required for this function.
When I do tether, I use Bluetooth Auto Connect on Gear which has tasker plugin

I'm also running the null Rom on my gear. I use the bluetooth tether option in the gear Bluetooth settings. So far I've tried both using Google now straight from the gear and the Bluetooth headset way. Sometimes the intent triggers without intention on the phone which seems to play havoc with spotify so currently I'm leaning more to the use of Google now via the gear alone. Also I find it easier when i can see the search, especially for note to self actions.
Anyway as the title suggests.... I'm no fan of typing on a tiny keyboard, it's a novelty and could be handy for a short text but I find holding my arm in the right position a pain after a while and it's difficult when you're typing stuff like com.orbonis.gear or whatever. Here are not 1 but 3 ways to make it easier.
1. Bluetooth keyboard. I've been using a Bluetooth keyboard with the gear off my wrist as a tiny monitor. Pros good typing experience and looks cool. Cons it can be fiddly to connect (I have to press var simultaneously on my keyboard and it can take a few go's to work) and it's not very portable.
2. Copy and paste. Although I've not been able to get copy and paste to work natively on my gear it works within tasker itself. You'd only have to type a message and a perform task once and then change the extras (which is easier than typing com.orbonis etc). However I think I've found a workaround. I was running the Swype keyboard (paid apk which I then downloaded via realapkleecher to pc, sideload to gear via adb) you can paste with this keyboard. I've found an app called clipper+ which is a syncing clipboard app. Downloaded straight from the play store tonight and was able to sync to the phone version. So I can now see my phones clipboard on the gear. When I get time I'll put Swype back on the gear and see if this does give a workaround for copy and paste.
3. Export from phone. I've not done this for tasker profiles but for apk files and zooper widgets from the phone via Bluetooth sharing from a file manager on the phone. Should be possible to do something similar for a tasker task. Just write the task on the phone and figure out how to send it lol.

Thanks for the great suggestion. I went with the bluetooth keyboard route for now. The other two routes are also viable, but I'm going to try keep it simple on the watch for now. I ended up tasker to intercept svoice and run task to kill it and invoke google voice on the phone instead.
Thanks again!

Could you share the task descriptions? I'm very interested in how others use tasker with the gear. So far I've been using it for things like making Bluetooth tether a one button start and I've been looking at using apps like zooper to launch tasks. Recently I've also worked out a reasonable way to launch tasks on the watch with a command from the phone. I'll probably using that to add to my geo cache tasks on the phone. So when do something like going shopping the phone well recognise the location and the watch will bring up my shopping list, turn on Bluetooth tether, control motions/screen brightness etc.

You could create a profile on your gear that does the following:
When s voice is launched on the gear, kill it and send an intent to the phone.
On your phone, make sure Bluetooth headset is enabled in the Google search app. Then, create the following profile:
When the intent is received, wake the phone, open Google voice and start a search.

Open issues to be solved

Just thought it was a good idea to open a thread with "issues" to be solved or things we want to get working on the Gear. I myself have a thing of two that I want to solve. For this I searched through some threads, saw some people mention the problems but never found a solution (although apparently other people were working on it to).
Because I like to be part of the solution but don't want to reinvent the wheel I thought it is maybe a good idea to sum some things up that need a solution in one thread.
Basic thing that I'm looking for and not sure if it is solved is
enable/disable BT tethering with just one tap (so to speak). Ideally automagically when opening an app that needs an internet connection
(If the problem isn't solved I was thinking to write an app for this)
(Reserved : list with open issues )
Id love someone to be able to rewrite the newest gear manager to work with people not on 4.3.
Or someone to get the things not working on 4.2 like weAther etc.
A native sms app that syncs with the phone properly. or get tablet talk to display names.

Very easy with Tasker & Bluetooth Auto Connect.
Iv set up so if my device is locked & the screen is off for 30 seconds, it will disable bluetooth tethering for battery reasons. Iv also setup so if I slide two fingers up on my Novalauncher homescreen it will enable bluetooth tethering. Alternatively you can also enable a launcher shortcut which will execute the task.
You can also setup so bluetooth tethering will automatically be activated when launching certain applications.
If you need further instructions, dont hesitate. Tasker can be a little intimidating at first if this is your first time using it.
I'd quite like to be able to swipe away notifications, both individually and per app. Currently it's a bit of a hassle..!

I've never used tasker before. Maybe worthwhile to dive into it.
Also played with Bluetooth Auto Connect. I used it to maintain a connection. (But concluded very quickly that that will drain the battery of the Gear like hell LoL). Where do you use Bluetooth Auto Connect for in this scenario? I mean,if I understand you correctly everything can be done with Tasker.

Bluetooth auto connect works as a plugin for tasker also, so you can incorporate bluetooth auto connect functions in your tasks.
You must get tasker, its a device changer.. both phone & gear.

I'd also quite like to have 2 finger double tap to show recent apps and 2 finger long press to show battery info.
i would love to have double tap on the watch to wake.

fOmey do i only need tasker on the phone in order to do that? The way i am manually doing it is i first enable tether on the phone ands then dive into the full settings on the Gear.
If the phone stops tethering then the Gear option automatically gets unticked, but it does not work the other way around.
I have tasked installed on both phone and gear. Could you please provide some instructions?
Also, have you checked Atooma? I have it both on the S4 and the Gear and i can do stuff on the phone with three triggers from the watch:
1) Horizontal movement
2) Vertical movement
3) Photo taken
Does tasker integrate with the watch the way Atooma does?
Thanx again for everything you have done.
YOU ARE THE MAN!
I'd like to be able to scroll down and see a playlist and pick a song

Tutorial in progress
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
Aim:
To setup autoconnection of bluetooth internet connection between Samsung Galaxy Gear and Samsung phone when certain apps are opened
Devices:
Samsung Galaxy S4 (running stock Android 4.3)
Samsung Galaxy Gear (running null v10+)
Apps:
Tasker: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm (Phone and Gear)
Bluetooth Auto Connect: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect (Gear)
Bluetooth Auto Tethering: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.refluxa.android.bat (Phone)
AutoRemote: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autoremote (Phone and Gear)
Setup AutoRemote:
It is assumed you know how to add devices to your list (http://joaoapps.com/autoremote/)
First you'll need to set it as a bluetooth device by going into Devices in AutoRemote and long preesing, then selecting 'Set Bluetooth Device'
Setup Tasker:
Phone:
You'll need a profile that will turn on the AutoRemote Bluetooth listener when Gear is connected and turn it off when Gear is disconnected
Now we need two more proifles - one to turn off internet and one to turn it back on
Internet on
Internet off
Gear:
You'll need a profile that will turn on the AutoRemote Bluetooth listener when Gear is connected and turn it off when Gear is disconnected
Bluetooth Connected
Code:
Enter Task - AR BT Service ON
Plugin -> AutoRemote Bluetooth
Tick 'Bluetooth Service'
Code:
Exit Task - AR BT Service OFF
Plugin -> AutoRemote Bluetooth
Untick 'Bluetooth Service'
Now we need two more profiles - one to turn off internet and one to turn it back on
On app opening
Code:
Enter Task - Internet On
AutoRemote Message - Add target device name (phone) and message to trigger bluetooth tethering startup on phone
Wait 15 secs - to cover delay
Bluetooth Auto Connect - Profile Networking (PAN) profile, profile action 'Connect'
Flash - Show message on screen that internet is connected
Code:
Exit Task - Internet Off
AutoRemote Message - Add target device name (phone) and message to trigger bluetooth tethering off on phone
Bluetooth Auto Connect - Profile Networking (PAN) profile, profile action 'Disconnect'
Flash - Show message on screen that internet is disconnected
Some suggestions:
- Changing the app exit senario to a time based on so that if you change between various internet capable apps it doesnt turn everything off and then back on again
- Trigger internet off if screen off, then turn back on when screen on
- Tethering always on if power connected
- Use Tasker app factory and create shortcut on homescreen
- Increase screen timeout when connected to internet
Other notes:
- I've turned toasts off on my Gear in AutoRemote settings
- Currently unable to export profiles from Gear, so have included a backup. if restored, it'll clear all settings/profiles/tasks already setup in Tasker on Gear

Perhaps reading the included "README.txt" with the files ?
it doent say how to load these settings on tasker in the readme just says what apps you will need and some code
Use the import? Haven't tried it yet but would assume so

Struggling a bit with these myself.. Everything is imported, and Autoremote setup properly... I guess I just don't really understand tasker Any help would be appreciated!
For starters, you need to make sure that you can manually setup Bluetooth tethering
Install required apps
Setup AutoRemote and test that it can communicate both ways with your phone
Import Tasker profiles
Check the profiles to see if they need editing - eg. device names, Bluetooth addresses, apps

Yeah I'm in the UK, bluetooth tethering is all good.
So so far I have done:
- set up autoremote on Gear and Phone
- Imported tasker profiles to the phone
- changed the name of the Gear in the Gear connected profile
- Gear internet on/off seem to be setup ok
The Gear connected/disconnected tasks have an exclamation next to them though. Specifically the "Autoremote bluetooth on/off" tasks which don't seem to exist. (are these supposed to be on the Gear?)
The other issue is I can't find a way to restore the userbackup.xml on the Gear :/
I'm guessing my issues are mainly down to not figuring out how to restore the Gear backup #ashamed
Cheers Brendo

Added the two missing tasks \o/ Everything seems setup...
Lets see if this runs...

So I have everything set up now I guess. The only issue is the message sent from the Gear to the Note 2 to enable bluetooth tethering.
The gear recognises the phone (and vice versa, they show the ip addressed next to device name), the message just doesn't seem to work :/

Finally... Done lol. I didn't start the autoremote listener manually. Doh!
Apologies to all for taking over thisd thread. And apologies to Brendo for being a bit of a noob.
Thanks for adding the profiles
Thank you heaps for this Brendo.
I don't use the internet to browse or facebook on the Gear, the only thing I use it for regularly is to sync my calendar (which updates my Simple Calendar widget).
I just used Tasker on both phone and Gear, BT Auto Tether on the phone, and BT Auto Connect on the Gear.
Used both of the last 2 as plugins in Tasker. Set the phone to turn on BT Tether and Gear to turn on BT connect every hour for 5 minutes.
I just tested it and it works great. I made a test event in my Google calendar and it updated on my Gear homescreen just after the hour without me having to do anything.
5 mins is probably overkill, I think the sync usually takes bout 1 or 2 minutes.
Only problem I had was I had to create the tasks for the Gear on the phone and export them as the Gear screen is too small and you can't select the option to repeat a task. (It shows the start time and end time, but not the repeat option which is in between those 2 fields.
I never used Tasker before, but worth the $3 to have my calendar auto update on the Gear.
Cheers,
Rich

Sorry, I was too busy to get on and reply. Good to hear you worked it out. The Bluetooth listener is probably the most common thing to miss (it's new, and not sure documentation mentions it?). Anyway one of the profiles should have triggered the listener so that it isn't on all the time

All good. Yes, creating task on watch is tricky due to size and parts missing. Tasker is defs worth the money. It's an awesome bit of software and I 'use' it all the time (don't actually do anything once it is set up )

No problem, I eventually changed the bluetooth on, on the phone to be any BT device. Even though I clicked the search to add the Gear it just didn't seem to recognise it :/
Wonder if you might also sanity check something for me, attempting to turn on internet every half hour for 3 mins..
1. Clone the 'Internet off' task, rename 'Internet off - 3 mins'.
2. add a new step before #1, 'wait 3 mins'
3. New Profile > Time >
4. Untick From/To so both say midnight
5. Set repeat to be every 30 mins
6. Add the 'Internet on' task to the profile.
7. Add the 'Internet off - 3 mins' to the profile.
So in this new profile, both tasks have a green tick (no exit scenario). The first one should kick off every 30 mins, as should the second, however the second won't actually do anything for 3 minutes... After 3 minutes is up it should then disconnect..
That look ok? :/
le3ky,
if that doesn't work for you, the way I got BT tethering to turn on for 5 minutes every hour is I set a BT tether on for the phone and BT connect for the Gear every hour starting at 7:00 and finishing at 00:00.
I also set a BT Tether off for the phone and BT disconnect on the Gear every hour starting at 7:05 and ending at 00:05.
It works perfectly to sync my calendar every hour.
You could adjust the times to 3 min and 30 min intervals
I've posted up most of the steps. It still assumes you have an idea about how to use Tasker and AutoRemote
There are some settings you may need to setup such as allowing Tasker external access, device admin rights, etc

Be careful! Very easy to become addicted!
Question: Does the listener only need to be activate on the gear ? Or only on the phone ? Or both ?
EDIT: Appears it needs to be enabled on the receiving device, so in our case the phone.. if only it wasn't such a battery hog !

[Guide] Tasker - Tasker/AutoRemote/etc ~ Videos ~ Guides ~ Profiles for Gear

I am in no way attempting to take credit for this program or any profiles created unless my name is annotated next to a published link. Support these guys buy buying their app(s) as this is a tremendous backend for amazing automation for today and the future.
In an effort to help everyone new to Tasker (and its associated apps like AutoRemote) and its capabilities, I'm starting this thread to list profiles that people are actively using on their gear.
What is Tasker?
Tasker is an application for Android which performs tasks (sets of actions) based on contexts (application, time, date, location, event, gesture) in user-defined profiles or in clickable or timer home screen widgets.
What are some of the things I can use these apps for?
While the number of uses for Tasker is limitless and only supressed by your imagination, here is a list of published tasker profiles that people have created for common yet out of the box thinking type usage: Tasker Profiles
Here are only some of the things you could do with Tasker, it's real power is the flexibility to combine contexts and tasks however you wish.
passcode-lock sensitive applications (e.g. for child safety)
change phone settings by
*application: long screen timeout in a book reader
*time: screen brightness lower in the evening
*location: ringer volume high at the office, turn off ke yguard at home
wake up with a random song from your music collection
Text-to-speech; read out loud: incoming SMS/ phone number, WiFi/Bluetooth status, when it's time for an appointment, when the battery is low etc etc (Android OS 1.6+ only)
launch a music application when your music SD card is inserted, otherwise a file browser
start the day with a particular application showing
change all your home icons and wallpaper every day, or in particular locations
turn the phone upside down to return to the home screen, tilt 90 degrees to the left and back to toggle speakerphone during a call
create a Home widget to
*toggle bluetooth/wifi on/off
*launch wireless settings dialog
*show a menu of tasks to choose
*send an emergency SMS with your GPS location
remap camera etc buttons to other applications, or show a menu of applications and/or actions
zip/unzip application data on the fly when an application is launched/exits
pause music playback while in a particular application, restart on exit
change the Home icon for any application
take a time-lapse photo series (possibly 'secretly')
make a regular backup of a file on the SD card
track your phone location via SMS in case of theft
extend the use of the media button on your headset: take a picture from a distance or go to the previous media track with a long press
record call times and destinations to the SD card
show a popup when an SMS arrives from a particular phone number
setup a birthday SMS to be sent months before it happens so you don't forget
record battery levels over time to a file on SD card
make automatic recordings of what you say during phone calls to SD card
during the night, turn on airplane mode to conserve battery/reduce radiation, but turn it off every 15 minutes to check for SMS/voicemail.
setup a vacation SMS message, with different messages for different callers
launch a music application when headphones are connected

Cool
Here's one that I've been using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542050
Recommended companion app: AutoRemote
What we really need is an update to Tasker to allow exporting...
I would love if this thread develops and thank you for starting it...i am trying to learn how to use tasker to get weather widgets to read weather from stock weather widget.....F0mey said you needed SQlite which i have and tasker...but im lost from there
It has taken me the better part of 4 days to get mine set up for voice automation. I know I've barely gotten started but I can now give a voice command to the gear and have it open Pandora and adjust the volumes on the phone. Then pause Pandora and readjust the volumes with another command. Think entering and exiting your car. Having this core structure in place, I think as I move to a full home automation plan, I will be able to integrate it with no problems.
Tasker, Autovoice, and Autoremote are all required. When I get a little more time, I'll try to decompress all that I learned over these 4 days to create a tutorial.
In the meantime, if you search autovoice and autoremote on Youtube, you can find some great assistance. Armando Ferreira has some great tutorials that really helped me get to where I am (and pushing me to where I want to be).
I was hoping someone can help me with what I am trying to do. First I'll explain what I want and then show screen shots of what I tried. So basically I want my weather info to be set for UCCW widgets and it seems u need tasked and sqlite to do so. And no null has sqlite support so I'll show u what I've done.
I know I'm probably totally off but can anyone tell me if I'm close or help

And thanks for the prop
When I double tap Nova, I use AutoVoice recognised Profile on Gear to send an autoremote message to the phone.
When the phone receives the message, it opens my Spotify playlist, and starts playing,
It also uses intents within Spotify to open the now playing window

Any of you tasker experts know how trigger an event on an incoming call on the Gear? I've tried Event --> phone ringing, and it doesn't seem to trigger anything when I get a call. I was thinking maybe there's a way to do it with Intent Received, but I don't know which intent...
I wanted the gear to play a ringtone once when I receive a call (while the gear is set to 'vibrate')
I can achieve this using Autoremote. The phone ringing event works on the phone itself, so I had Autoremote send a message "RING" to the gear, and the gear received this and played the ringtone... it wasn't really a good way to do it, and wasted battery because I had to keep the Autoremote bluetooth listener on.

I think you may need to find out what 'app' opens. Perhaps dialer? And trigger on app start as it doesn't seem to use the actually phone capabilities of android

I just tried dailer ... didn't work Doesn't see like there are any other apps on the tasker app list that would apply to incoming calls. That's why i was thinking there was an intent or something else that could be monitored.
I have a simple one for alerting of Whatsapp messages (got sick of watch constantly alerting on group messages). Essentially it triggers a notification, then hides it
Make sure Tasker is set to send notificiations in Gear Manager
Make sure Tasker is turned on in Accessibility services
Profile: Notification Whatsapp
Cooldown: 5mins
Event: Notification
Owner Application: WhatsApp
Task: WhatsApp Message
1. Notify
Title: Whatsapp
Text: Message Received
Icon: [Can be anything, as doesn't show up anywhere]
2. Wait
Seconds: 5
3. Notify Cancel
Title: whatsApp
Further ideas:
- Display content (requires sqlite3)
- Only display for group chats
- Repeat alerts

Initiate Google Search on the phone

If I were to pair a Galaxy Gear with a M8, could I initiate a google search on my phone by pressing something on the watch? Basically I want to somewhat recreate the Moto x's ability to receive commands without the phone being on, and without an active tethering connection which will kill the battery on both devices.
Thanks so much!
my gear is setup to use google voice search/goggles/translate so i can voice command it, ask it to translate etc. caveat is i have to be BT tethered the whole time (battery life impact - i can get 18 hours on moderate use). I have the google now launcher installed and toggle between that and Nova depending on mood
works really good - when i take a photo with my gear, goggles automatically tries to identify it, i can tell my watch to launch apps and ask queries like you normally would with google voice
current limitation i have is i cannot use the hot phrase 'ok google' to initiate voice. i have to press the search i con to get started - still on the hunt on how to activate with 'ok google'

Humm, "ok google" should work if Google Now has been triggered and running. Usually, you can do a followup search with "ok google".
Keeping the microphone running would be a MAJOR battery killer. Dont believe me, try it on your phone and see how quick it drains. On the Gear, tethered, you would probably get about 4 or 5 hours.
Just not quite there yet with battery technology, but hey who knows, maybe Google's Android Wear has cracked this nut and figured out a better way to initiate speech recognition.

Agreed. On the phone there is typically a setting to set the hot phrase for google now, this setting does not show up in the gear

I'm using offline recognition on my gear in conjunction with Tasker and AutoVoice. I have it launch background continuous recognition whenever the screen is on, then so it when the screen turns off. I also have two orientations that turn the screen of right away without waiting for the timeout. (the positions when I naturally rest my arm on a desk and when my hand hangs at my side.) So far, this hasn't had much effect on battery life.
I use a key word of "Galaxy" to let it know I want to forward a commend to my phone, which I do with M2D Manager. I've already got quite a set of voice controls on the phone, so no need to replicate them on the watch. Otherwise, it handles the command on the watch.
The net effect here, is I lift my arm in standard watch fashion, and say commands directly. It's functionality similar to having always on recognition.

@hawkjm73 Could you elaborate on how you have this setup exactly? This may be my answer to ditch trying to get this damn "Google Now Search" to work offline in handling voice commands such as call, ect... :fingers-crossed:

Apologies for the delay in answering.
There are quite a few components working together here.
First and foremost: Null Rom. Without that, nothing else happens.
Second: offline voice recognition
This was pretty much taking all the language files from my phone and transplanting them to the watch, minding permissions.
Third: AutoVoice and Tasker
These are market apps and are fantastic for automation. You'll need them on both phone and watch. I'm using two profiles for this. The first turns on AutoVoice recognition in continuous mode whenever the screen turns on, and off when the screen goes off. The second profile is an AutoVoice recognize with "galaxy" as the command filter. It initiates an intent with the rest of what I say as a data payload.
Fourth: M2D manager
This is also available on the market, and needs to be on both devices. It is a Bluetooth bridge for Android intents. Tasker sends out an intent formed for M2D with the voice command as data. M2D transmitted it to the phone where it seems out a specified intent, still containing the command. Tasker listens for that intent. Once it had it, I use the AutoVoice test feature to send the command text in as if it had been spoken to the phone, so I can use all of my previously written voice control profiles. M2D also works the other way around, which I take advantage of for notifications and such.

Thanks! I can follow most of what you said, however, when it comes to tasker, I'm a bit challenged. Right now I do have Tasker on both watch & phone along with Taskgear. With the help of some others, I have a couple profiles set on each (visa-versa) to show the battery levels respectively per other device on a widget on each.
If you could kindly share your tasker setups, I think I could pull this off! :fingers-crossed:

Google voice commands / "oke google"

Hi,
I'm wondering if some of you KLD / KLG / MX / etc unit owners are using google voice commands. I can't use it properly on my unit, it crashes all the time. Sometimes it works, but usually it crashes. I'm using Malaysk rom. Is there anybody who can you use google voice without any problems? Or is there a simpel solution to fix my issues? I'm using a external mic connected with a jack to the backside of my unit.
I have spent a lot of time with this issue. My views are that the OEM version of the Google app is the only stable version(for voice use) for these HUs. My JY solution was to extract the Velvet.apk from the factory ROM. After updating to a Malsysk ROM, I replaced the pre updated apk back to the older factory version. You will lose out out on some updated features, but having a working voice command is nice tradeoff.

Phone calls? No. I believe this is a common issue, there is no phone hardware onboard. Though I'm not that familiar with that feature.
Email and other task could be handled with Autovoice if Google app can not. Again, not that familiar.
For me, the main missing feature was choice of navigation app. Nav questions will only launch GMaps, newer version can launch Waze or your nag app choice, by default.

If you have a phone connected via BT you can make phone calls using OK Google.

I've read some posts in the Malaysk ROM thread and many people have modded their units by opening them up and re-runing the internal mic. It's that mic, not the external, that is used for voice commands and apparently it is an unshielded wire that allows for a lot of interference and therefore unreliable google voice. I'm still foggy on the voice dialing but someone somewhere got this to work but not through the native bluetooth app. I think I read that they used the RK3066/Rk3188 app in the google play store or something...I'm just getting started with my unit and it's not even installed yet. Hopefully some of this was insightful for you.

I am using the latest Malaysk ROM dated 10th January 2016 for RK3188 1024*600. It lets me speak Ok Google and Call (contact name) to the phone when after pressing the call button. The way it works for me is:
1. Whatever is playing on the unit, it stops when I press the call button on my steering;
2. It launches the unit's dial screen;
3. I say 'OK Google', it launches the ok google listener on the phone;
4. I say 'Call (contact name)' and it calls.
Few things I had to manage before this started working was:
1. Enable the option to receive commands over bluetooth in Google Now settings in the phone;
2. Enable to XPOSED MTC in the XPOSED framework in the head unit;
3. Change the setting to integrate with phone's google now interface (something like that) in XPOSED MTC module.
Hope this helps.
Can you elaborate on this process please?

Were can i find this option? I have a nexus 5 and i updated my google now, but there no option like that in google now. Or do you mean the option "bluetooth headset" under voice?

I can't find any options in Xposed MTC related to what you are writing. Are you sure this option is in Xposed MTC?
Thank you!!!

Hi there,
I to have been wondering about the best way to get voice dialling working and as my google voice crashes the HU more often than not, I think it is best to do this as shaiq123 has suggested by pressing the call button the steering wheel and then Ok Googling the phone to make the call.
But my phone goes to lock screen in the car and that stops this working. What I would like is that when my phone connects to the car bluetooth it
1) stops it going to lockscreen
2) activates wifi hotspot
3) activates 'ok google' if it is not normally activated
and it reverses on disconnecting.
Is this something easily done or do I need some kind of app to do this?
A final thing that would be helpful, is that it would be useful to give the play music command to direct the HU to play music from an HU attached SD card rather than the phone memory. Is there a way to also configure that (i.e. that the command would seek music stored on HU rather than phone first?)
Cheers

You could achieve the first part using Tasker, you would just create a profile to run your tasks that actives when your phone connects to the headunit. Its a great app for automating stuff like that.

Thanks - in fact this morning I have downloaded the trial for Tasker as well as Automate to see if they can do what I am looking for.
I've decided what would be really helpful would be if I could
1) Use app to detect when phone connects to car HU via bluetooth
2) Launch Wifi Hotspot
3) set the camera button to unlock screen and activate google voice
Now 1&2 look like its not too difficult and may even be doable using the Sony Smart Connect app (on a Z2, not rooted).
3 doesn't seem to be as instantly obvious. In tasker, I put in a new profile>event>hardware>button camera, also selected non beginner settings so could pit priority to highest and activate stop event, then put the task as launch voice search app - but it just keeps doing the camera?

Create a new Profile>State>Net>BT Connected then click the magnifying glass next to name and select the name of your headunit. This will mean whenever your bluetooth is connected to the headunit it will run the tasks associated with it. It will give you the option to name and create a task once you create your profile then create new>Net>WiFi Tether and set to On.
I have a Z2 as well and just tried the camera button as a profile and it didn't work for me either, you'll need to do some googling on that, not sure why it doesnt work. It's best to set a flash (Alert>Flash) in your task as a test to see if your task runs but I'm sure you need to need to have root to unlock the screen.

Thanks for this - and yes this where I had got to (which make me feel better!). And I too think the camera button may not be workable without root.
I think I need to change my plans and see if I can prevent the lockscreen to come on when connected to this bluetooth device. That way I can fall back to using ok google as the lockscreen prevents ok google from completing requests.
Okay - think I've done that and it was easy enough, now have a profile which when connected to HU through bluetooth does (1) set off wifi tether and (2) Set keyguard off. Then with (3) double tap to wake screen and (4) Ok google should be able to do what I need it to.
Last thing I'm wondering if you could do is to create a large voice dial icon (double normal size etc) on screen (in case initial ok google doesn't work)...
