Data connection isn't starting

Hi. I just bought a new galaxy s from vodafone, but when i tried to use a 3g data connection it just won't work. it works fine with wi-fi connection but if i turn that off (or if i don't use it at all) the phone just won't connect to the internet. i've double checked the apn settings...is there an option to turn the data connection on and i'm just not seeing it? please help...

sometimes it helps to restart the phone
or switch it to airplane mode then back

i've read other posts for other type of connection problems and i did what u said...nothing...it just doesn't even try to connect...

do you have any other SIM card from friends/family that you can try?
just wondering if it's related to your SIM account, or if it's defective phone

if it is working over wifi there is still something wrong with apn settings or your sim card.. i doubt it is the phone itself.. or you are in an area with no 3g edge.. or wrong phone ie t mobile vibrant on bell or att network

I would like to thank all of u who tried to help me... when i was at work today i've changed the sim card with another one with internet on it and it worked so i called vodafone and stuck to my oppinion that it was their fault and finnaly i came across a guy who saw that my account settings were not correct. now it is working. thanks..

yes phone companies do mess up very often in our accounts

Hi, today I try to flash the theme "ZeBugTheme" on AMBP rom but it didn't work (Bootloop), so I flash the stock firmware 80.5.31002 GB but the problem now is that I loose my mobile data! I can activated it but nothing happen, I can send sms and call but my network connection don't work at all..
Somebody have any solution please?

You have set your correct APN?
If that won't work I would suggest to wipe the Phone and flash the SBF over an clean base.

On thought... When I flash an SBF and do my Setup after that, I get asked, if I have an contract with or without data flat. When I hit the without button, the Mobile data turned off by default (of course I got an flat)

Thks for your reply but the thing is I already wipe my phone, flash the SBF with a clean base and activate the unlimited data at the begining.. :/

That's strange. You got the chance to try your SIM with another Phone? Maybe it's related to your Carrier? What about Smart Actions, anything configured in there? Maybe freeze it and reboot, to see if it's the Bad Guy...

I'll sheck my SIM tomorrow yes, the thing is I bought my phone in France and now I live in england so like you say it's maybe a carrier pbl..?
And I stop all the action in smart action so it can't come from this app.
How do you freeze the phone ? Is it power off and volum up?
That's very strange because I get no error message or something like that and when I stop the mobile data I can see the logo "H" with the indication that's shutdow and when I reactivated it nothing appeared but I have allways my 2g connection!

No, I mean not to freeze the Phone. Just freeze (deactivate) Smart Actions completely.
You can try to activate roaming, but beware. It can be really expensive, if it's not in your contract.
Your SIM is from France, too? When I drive into the Netherlands with my German Sim Card, I also lose my data until I activate the roaming option.

I delete smart action so I can't have any pbl with it .
No it's an English SIM, I'm with giffgaff on O².
I activated the roaming but nothing change!

Then check the APN or test the SIM in another Device. Sorry, I guess we're stuck here. I can't see any other reasons, why it won't work
And there's no other App installed on your Phone, that controls the data connection?

Go to network settings and see if all the apn etc are there if not you will need to input manually. Giffgaff runs on the O2 network so check to see if it's set them.

SIM sheck on my old Motorola Defy and mobile data are working!
I went on the network connection and the APN are different, there is one more point acces wich is call "giffgaff" and it's the only wich is activate. So the problem come from here.
And to finish I received 2 text message from Giffgaff on my Motorola Defy:
" We're about to send you the giffgaff settings so you can use giffgaff WAP. Please save and activate them if asked. Super"
and an other to confirm :
"You should now be able to use giffgaff mobile internet and MMS."
I expect it'll work on my XT 890 now...!
edit: try on my razr i but still not working, I think the phone doesn't scan the APN so I'll do that manually..
Maybe a bug from the phone?
I've written the giffgaff point acces by myself and now it's work!! Problem resolved, I'm so happy

Droid 4 doesnt pick up a gsm network

what the tittle says, got my droid 4 in panama put in a cuted down sim and it doesnt pick up anything.
i make the phone to scan the networks and it sees them but i doesnt connect
am i cursed and this phoen doesnt work here? or should i get a sim card from another carrier?

Have you tried to configure the APNs from your carrier in yor D4?

Maybe you have the cdma/lte compatibility intead of gsm, aren't you? I installed this patch made by konami86:

Please help!!!!!!
I two days ago I installed the gsm package that you are refering on your previous post, there was no problem until i had to boot my phone, after that my phone has no signal. I am a newbie and i desperately need help.

[Q] Network not detecting while roaming.

Hi, am using Morola G 2nd Generation,
My phone is not detecting network when am in roaming. Its showing red icon near to network signal.
Can anyone help me regarding this?

I tried with keeping off and on mode for data usage. though its not at all detecting network signal for both sim card when I go for roaming.
I tried restarting , reinserting sim card everything. but when I reach to home network its works perfect.

No brother, its not at all about data connection, its about network signal. I kept this thing with both data service on and off mode, but the thing is about network signal. It am not even able to call as I dont have signal those time.

Than it is something related to your provider.Some kind of restriction in roaming , or your firmware do not support frequencies in places where you travel

Data connection drops

Im from the Philippines and im using a Globe prepaid sim LTE ready. My mi A2's cellular connection always drops. When i tried my sim on other devices it works just fine. Haven't been able to play online games because of the connection drops. Wifi is good tho. i tried to play with the *#*#4636#*#* the different modes but still no luck.

When you tried other devices it was in the same place ?
Did you try an other sim with a different operator ?

Yes i was in the same place when i was testing it with other operators. I used my friends sim but still no luck.

Anyone experiencing this kind of problem?

I experienced my old device (T00F). You should try to change rom.

Hi guys, I am facing this problem too, mobile data is always with the cross and only work when the signal is totally full. I already reset the connection settings but the problem persists. In wifi i get drops too, and sometimes i just can connect again by restarting the phone
