Planning to get either phone. Also considering Galaxy S4 + HTC One. Time is not of essence, good phone is. I want performance, megapixels (Camera) and long battery life. Right now edge is Droid MAXX. Interestingly I don't see a forum for the new Droid MAXX/Ultra on VZW which is already released. Also the phone MUST be globally capable as I travel and like to use AT&T/T-mobile SIM's from time to time.

I'm in the same boat. Really want the battery life of the maxx and wireless charging ability. In fact really for me the only downfall of the maxx is the capacitive buttons. I really like the soft on screen buttons. Don't know if that will bug the heck out of me or not. I think I will at least play with both and make my final decision.

If you want Development, there is going to be a lot more people getting the Moto X since it's on all of the major US carriers. Just be sure to get a Developer Edition
Add me to the list of the undecided. I still have the Galaxy S4 on my short list. Im leaning towards the Maxx for the aforementioned reasons.
The development issue has me balking at the Maxx though. That and some of the issues reported with last years Droid Razr Maxx HD. I know this SOC is different, but some of the sluggishness reported on the Razr Maxx after using them for a while has be wondering if i shouldnt wait a month or so.
Was an early adopter of the Droid X and its been my only phone for over 3 years. Still going for now running VXLR 2.2.0, but im seriously overdue for a new phone. I tend to hang onto phones for at least 2 years or more, so i want something i can ROM when and if it starts bogging down or i just want better features.
At the bare minimum id like to get root access on the Maxx. I guess its still a little too soon to know if that will happen. Anyone have any thoughts or a best guess on whether root will be achievable on the Maxx?
I'm completely in the same boat. My renewal just came up. The X seems like a good phone, but it seems very similar to the Maxx and I would love to have the Maxx's battery life. The X/Maxx/etc have virtually the same specs. All of them have the same screen type that I dislike, I prefer the soft buttons so Maxx/Ultra are one down for that, no sd card (minor as I have a nexus right now), non-removable battery (minor but annoying).
I do love the HTC one, similar issues, I like the screen better & love the speakers in the front, because well its nice they are directed AT me, but the camera is weak and HTC hasn't been know for its quality in the last several phones it released.
The S4 is a possibility, my co-worker has it and loves it. The note 3 is coming out soon but that phone is massive! lol
What to do, what to do. If I had any choice I would really love another nexus, but alas that ship has long sailed and is most likely never coming back.
The two major differences comes down to screen size and battery life. Maxx has a slightly larger screen size and double the quoted battery life for mixed use. Personally, screen sizes are getting out of control so MotoX is an easy pick.
From what i read and experienced
Battery life:
MAXX > S4 > Moto X > One
Design:
One > Moto X > S4/MAXX
Screen:
One/S4 > Moto X > MAXX
Storage:
S4 > One > MAXX > Moto X
Camera:
S4 > One > MAXX/Moto X

I disagree with the battery life that S4 is better than MotoX. Yes, the S4 has a 400mAh larger battery, but that is offset by the larger screen and higher resolution that requires more juice. The MotoX mainly comes short in 3G talk time. But let's face it, most people don't really spend a lot of time talking on their phones. We mainly use it for non-talk stuff (email, texting, music, video, etc), which is where the MotoX excels. Life all battery life tests, none of them matter because it depends on actual user.
Also the HTC One and MotoX should be tied for design as they both worthy for different reasons. Aluminum body on the HTC One is pretty sleek, while the motomaker and build quality on the MotoX makes plastic look expensive.
True. If it's not the MAXX, battery life is all pretty much the same. As for the the design, i agree with you, but i also took into consideration the speaker design, I.E. the front facing goodness

No regrets with getting the maxx as long as signal with Verizon is good enough for me indoors where it matters (work) in happy with the switch. Went from 49% to 25% first day initial charge with 2hrs screen on time.

Apparently the OS takes up 6.5GB. I'm going to go with the Maxx, I want more than 9.5GB for all my stuff on stock. But God, I hope this thing gets unlocked

Was waiting for the X this hole time. I went and took a look at the MAXX yesterday and went ahead and picked it up. Awesome device!!!!
Feels really solid. Great battery. External speaker is kick butt for a small speaker. Like the 5" screen.
Why is there not a Droid Maxx forum yet?
Someone else recently brought this up - why isn't there a Verizon Droid Maxx Forum yet? I see today they put a Verizon HTC One forum in, and that's not even out yet?!
I'm planning on going with the Maxx for battery life. If this had soft keys I'd be 150% sure, but right now am about 90%.
Yeah it's a little odd there is no section yet... Unless they are tying it in this one because the four phones are practically the same but that would be weird and you'd think they would state that.

On Maxx now. Battery is amazing. Love the design and weight. Screen is great. Moto X almost had me sold the "design it yourself aspect", but wasn't enough for me.
Hope this gets enough love for root. But loving it so far.

I got a Ultra and love it. I'm using it with my ATT Sim at the moment. Every thing works too Calls, data (HSPA+) and mms..right out the gate. No messing around with apns.
If people is deciding to grab the Moto X and not pick up one of the new Droids up because of the possibility of no development because of the locked bootloader..if I remember correctly, the Verizon and ATT Moto X has locked bootloaders too. And since the new droids and the Moto X devices is so similar, I would assume that they have a similar bootloader and maybe even all locked down the same.
Maxx looked nice in store, but trying to decide if I should wait for moto X unlocked.

I am surprised there is no conversation on the LG G2 coming. I am ready to part with the DNA due to battery and wanting the latest. Tempted by the Maxx but I had the earlier version and Moto is just boring. Then I get stuck flashing and ignoring my wife. The Maxx is heavy compared to the S4 or LG by 20%. Had the S4 and took it back since I wasn't in love with all the gimmicky stuff and it was just okay. Think Sense is better. Today I just decided to wait for the LG with the larger battery and slightly larger screen. Still tempted to go toy with the Maxx since no one does battery better.

Moto x. Better software. No lag. Faster updates.

Moto X of course. But, what did you expect when posting a question like this in the Moto X forum? I had the LG G2 and heavily favor the Moto X. Still think it's an awesome phone after a few months.
My comment on this was in one of these two postings:

This. G2 has better display, better battery life and MUCH better camera. Moto x has better software, better performance, more useful features, better speaker. If it wasnt for the lag i would say the G2 is better but because of it i say moto x.
Both phones are amazing in their own personal way...
I had the LG g2 after the moto x, then came back to the Moto x....
I missed the breathing notifications, and all of the personalization that comes with the moto x.
Fwiw, the LG g2 is a phone that you must root and put a custom rom onto in order to enjoy it ; at least for me.
The moto x is awesome out of the box!
Cheers,

I think it is a personal preference, they are both really good phones.
I have both and for me the G2 is the better phone. The moto is too small, the screen isn't as good, and is a touch slower and the camera is a step behind. Further, I tend to keep my phones for 2 years or longer and I feel like the G2 will be the better phone in the long haul. I know that some people complain about the UI but after a few weeks of using, rooting, and tweaking it I have it just the way I want it, lean but still useful feature rich. I loaded CM on it for 3 days and went back to my version of stock. It was just missing too much.
The moto is a great phone, the updates have been impressive, the features rock and my wife loves it. It is the good size for her and she doesn't care about screen resolution (or kit kat) in the slightest. She had a razr maxx and it was too big for her. She is much happier now with her pink and black moto x
good luck with your decision.
If you post this question on the "Moto X" area = Moto X winner
If you post this question on the "LG G2" area = G2 winner
G2 has better specs, better screen... but it's big, and clumsy, and made by LG which we all know, really don't care for updates... in the end, it's up to you...
I tried the G2 before the X (coming from a S4) and for me the screen was the deal breaker. I didn't like the G2 screen. I'm just a sucker for SAMOLED I guess but the low contrast and saturation of the G2 (both stock and CM10.2) drove me nuts constantly.
G2 wins on camera, battery life and audio quality over both the X and S4. The G2 processor absolutely smokes but I've been pleasantly surprised by the X in that regard as well. I'm not a gamer so this is just working with regular apps but it feels faster than the S4 and not too far off the G2.

It is, essentially, the same device with a larger display and battery. It does have the active display and touchless controls.
I'd probably have gotten it...but its twice the price I paid.

If it was on my carrier I would have gotten it. Save discs
Spec's as the x and larger battery is a win

I too would have gotten the Droid Maxx had it been around the same price point as the x ... But $349 vs. $649 ... I'll take the x LOL

I have the razor maxx hd (xt926) and thought that kitkat was going to be released by the end of the first quarter....... so far still no OTA on verizon here in Wisconsin. I have played w the X and really don't like not having the smart actions, and the app they have for that is okay..... it doesn't have the ability to add more actions...... so I guess another smart action type app would need to be found. !?!?! Thats easy i guess.....
Or, do I root the Maxx hd and call it a day? There are a lot of nice features on the X but I was holding out to see what Lenovo and Moto come up with after the X.
Waiting on the software update is starting to really upset me when I can't get an answer to when the update is gonna be available. So to sum it all up..... what wold you all do??? Keep the maxx or order a X????
Please and thank you.
If you're gonna buy the X....then sell it in a few months for the x2 or whatever....I'd wait.
If the x meets your needs for the next while, get it. Its better than what you have now.
Basically its your needs that matter. No one here can decide for you.
Read up.....and decide. ?

I had the Maxx HD with an unlocked bootloader, a couple months ago I got the X and gave the Maxx HD to my wonderful mother. To me, the difference isn't that huge, and I do miss the battery life I got with the Maxx HD. Having said that, the Moto X is a great phone, honestly I don't think you can lose no matter what you decide. Good luck!

I'm kind of disappointed in moto for promising kitkat to a few of the older droids and not delivering quickly like they did 4.4 on the Moto X. Just saying, if I had an hd or m I'd be more than a little irked.

I also had the Razr Maxx HD. The only reason I upgraded was because I wanted to try the phone out for a couple days. I got it for free through Best Buy since another line on my plan had an upgrade available. I do like the phone and I kept it. I gave my rooted/unlocked Razr Maxx HD to a friend of mine, but I don't think he's activated it yet.
As one of the other posters said, I miss the extra battery life of the Maxx HD...but these days I'm usually ALWAYS around a charger. The few times out of the year that I go camping I can bring an external battery to give the phone a charge. Rooting it was also much more of a process for me than the Maxx HD since you can't unlock the bootloader. Also, I never did use the HDMI port on my Maxx, so losing that didn't bother me. My SD card that I had only contained my titanium backups and other things like photos. Now I auto-upload my photos/videos to Dropbox so the limited 16Gb of space hasn't affected me yet. I actually almost enjoy it since it keeps me from keeping un-used applications on the phone.
The biggest advantage I noticed is that when I was switching between apps a lot, the Maxx kind of started slowing down (probably due to only 1Gb of RAM). I haven't noticed this yet with the Moto X since it has double the memory. For me it was a no brainer to try it out since it was free, and didn't take my line's upgrade away. In less than a year I'll be able to upgrade again if I wish. I love the fact that the screen size is the same as the Maxx and yet the phone still feels super small! I don't need a 5+ inch screen on my phone.
The Maxx HD is definitely a tank. I didn't put a case on it and it held up fine through drops, however I did decide to put a Speck case on my Moto X. It's so light it feels like it would break easier. If I were you, I would probably stay with the Maxx HD and see how the 4.4 update is (when it finally comes). I'm guessing sometime in May/June. The Maxx is a great phone and if my friend didn't need mine (he broke his Razr HD) I would have definitely kept it for a backup phone.
I Owned The First Gen Moto X, And It Was Amazing. It Was A Personal Best For Me, Unfortunately My Moto X First Gen Got Stolen And Now I'm Debating To Either Purchase Another Moto X Or A Moto G 2014. I Really Don't Know Which One To Get. The Moto X 2013 Clearly Has Better Specs, With An 4.7 Inch (Tiny) AMOLED 720 x 1080 Display, 2 GB Of Ram A Better And Faster GPU and CPU, 4G LTE And A Bigger Battery. The Moto G (2014) On The Other Hand Has A 5 Inch (Average) IPS LCD 720 x 1080 Display Which Is Larger But Not As Good As The Moto X. Basically What I'm Asking Is Can You Notice A Huge Difference In Performance And Quality Between The Two Devices? (For Everyday Use).

Greetings dude, for a while I owned both moto x 2013 and moto g 2014, at that moment both running Lollipop 5.0.2, honestly for a normal and everyday use the moto g it's enough, however, depending on how many and what type apps you use frecuently, the moto x have a much better capability to manage it, due to his 2 Gb of RAM, and it shows. The Moto X always have a fantastic smooth touch, but the Moto G 2014 it's very capable to manage the every day use and have a very good screen that it's more confortable for web browsing and multimedia consumpsion, (Isn't better but comfortable), and have a microSD slot.
In hand the Moto X give a better feeling, seems and feels more firm and better builded.
In use, the diferences are not huge but are appreciable. Remember, some apps of "everyday use" can be a very "RAMeaters"
I prefer the Moto X, for me it's really better device, the only thing I miss are that 5" screen.
I hope I could help to clarify your doubts
I suggest you get moto x.
even though moto g runs pretty good, the high resolution screen coupled with the low ram and cpu gives a feeling of general sluggishness as compared to the x
I got a Moto G 1st gen for a week for testing, and even thou it has a quadcord 1.2Ghz vs. Moto x dual core 1.7 I must say I like the Moto X a lot more for several reasons:
The camera quality of the Moto G 1st Gen with 5mp is just a joke, you cant really use any of the pictures, so if you want to take some pictures, forget the 1st Gen series.
The 2nd gen Moto Ghas 8MP (moto x 2013 10MP) so thats better already
The Moto G 2nd Gen (without 4G and dual sim) doesnt have any LTE, so the Moto X is better for that, too.
Also the G 2nd Gen has a bigger screen, Im a fan of smaller screens, so my vote goes for the X 2013 there, too
And the big difference is the RAM, 1gb vs. 2gb, for daily use I must say I really can feel the difference. Like when playing Ingress and then switching to gmail, opening some magazine apps etc. on the Moto X I can still return to Ingress without starting the app from scratch again, with the Moto G it really needs to boot up the app from scratch again-->huge downside in my opinion.
But the G has a notification led, I like that more than active display...
