fast help please (may be buying a nexxus one)

Sorry for asking for fast help but I may be buying a (used, good shape) Nexxus One (via craigslist) and have an important question.
I have ATT wireless, the old, old "blue sim" ATT wireless (with a grandfathered plan I will not get rid of). Also added "unlimited mmode data plan in time before they cancelled unlimited plans (*this is not the iphone data plan).
I currently use a Nokia E51 (symbian s60v3, wifi, decent reception, works on 3G (and switches to Edge when 3G isn't avail).
I'm looking at a Nexxus One that is unlocked, currently on Tmobile.
Question is: will this nexus one work 100% (3g and edge) on my ATT account?
and/or - Is there anything I can do to make it work? (I'd like to buy it).
I'm just not sure a unlocked Tmobile nexus one is 100% compatible or will work on ATT (or can be made to work).
it's cost is making it risky so I came here in hopes of advice and help.
I hope this is the right forum section.

You will not get 3G. Only edge. T-Mobile and AT&T use different bands for 3G.

Am I correct in saying that nexus one has the same bands (3g/edge) as the E51 and should work well for an updated phone?

Like I said, it depends which Nexus one. The AT&T one will only give 3G on AT&T, and the TMobile one will only give 3G on Tmobile. You can't change it, no way to hack it. If you want 3G, you need the correct version for your network.

I see, and thanks for the reply. i was thinking there is a hack/workaround but there isn't apparently.
Now, is there a like phone which still would fullfill my ATT needs (blue sim plan, 3g/edge modes, wifi capable, etc that I should be looking at...essentially like the nexus one)?
What about the HTC Desire (or is this the sam scenario)?
* again, i just can't leave this grandfathered plan, and I'm not a big iphone fan (enough to make me switch plans that is).

I just received a reply from a user on the ATT forums (very well versed with my blue plan and mmode, GSM phones) who stated this...
The Nexus One would be your best choice if you want to use AT&T Mobility's 2G & 3G network (they use 850 & 1900 MHz for both).
Now in regard to this used, unlocked Tmobile nexus it may be unusable for me...
but based on his reply, he seems to be saying an (att) Nexus one should offer the 2g (edge) and 3g band features (which I need).
Are we sure about the 3g or edge but not both in regard to the nexus one?
* got my eye set on a att nexus one (really, first it was the HTC Desire - very similar, but the band support was the concern there with the Desire)

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. You are not listening. The Tmobile Nexus One will NOT give you 3G on AT&T.
BUT the AT&T Nexus One WILL give you 3G.
You just need to get the right one. You just need to buy the AT&T compatible Nexus One. Not the Tmobile one.

I was looking at this tmobile nexus one for $350, decent condition.

My Nexus One with AT&T bands works just like every other 3G AT&T phone. It works on both EDGE and 3G. If you look at the bands it has, there's no reason it wouldn't.
You need an AT&T banded N1 to get both 3G and EDGE.
If you get the T-Mobile version, you will ONLY GET EDGE on AT&T.
That's the difference: the 3G bands are different between the two, but the EDGE bands are the same.

The desire does not have ATT 3g bands, so you will be stuck on edge. Recently they announced a usa desire which might come with proper 3g, but that phone does not yet exist. So no the desire won't work unless you just want edge.

well, your friend selling his att nexus one stopped replying so I have to assume he's either kept it or selling for a bit more on ebay/etc.
I can bid on a few on ebay that will likely end up being $500+ for slightly used, but can anyone tell me if I can still buy the att 3g version ffor $529 straight from google (as in if I order by this friday)?

What US network are you on if you have unlocked note?

I saw a deal for an unlocked "world" version of the note and I am on TmoUS. So if I buy the note, will I be able to use my unlimited data plan with 3g or H? I am confused reading the forums on the att side and this one...they're saying I can only get edge? Because that would really suck.
I'm on tapatalk and can't do a decent search on xda via app so if this had been asked already, just point me to that thread and I will gladly have this one deleted. Also, the desire to get the unlocked note is a spur of the moment kinda thing since the deal is only available for one day. Btw, unlocked note is selling for 585 with shipping from 1saleaday.

what they said is right you will only get edge speeds on tmobile with the inter.. Note...If you use AT&T then its no big deal.

I am also on tmo. I found an article that says you can run tmo hspa+ on att note so I'm going to try and trade line on Craigslist. Edge is killing me man.

Hello, so let me get this right. If I have HSPA+ in my area (which I do in Chicago) then I can run the International Note on non-edge tmobile speeds?

that depends on the frequency of the 3g network in your area.
however, this is the first I've seen it mentioned that American t mobile has any other 3g bands than 700mhz.
So I'd say no, you most likely will not get 3g speeds.

The N7000 will only run on T-Mobile edge. If you want 4g you have to AT&T or Straight Talk.

Oh well. I am going to try straight talk in a few weeks to see if that is any better.

Well, EDGE is downright terrible...no one can argue that. If you want to use T-Mobile, you're better off getting the AT-T note, unlocking it, then installing the right modem files to use it on 3g/4g. I use T-Mobile myself, and decided to keep the Int. version...I think it's better, and the development community is WAY better, mainly because the device has been out longer. It's up to you really. Don't hope T-Mobile will be updating it's 1900mhz spectrum in your area anytime soon...it's a process I'm sure will take many years.

Straight Talk is excellent you get around 4-6mbps download speeds.

Yes they do number porting as long as it is not a at&t number because straight talk uses at&t network.

It sucks that it is more difficult to get the inter version to work on 3g or h on tmo. I did read that the inter version is better than att version and I do believe that development will be better with the inter version as it obviously covers more countries and it has been out longer. I really want this note but I'm just gonna wait a bit. I have a feeling those guys working on getting tmo to work on inter version will be able to do it. Wishful thinking probably but it is possible with all the talented devs out there. I guess I'm going to be on sensation for a while until tmo comes up with a phone as awesome as the note. Thanks for all the responses!!

Check if your area has the TMO 1900Mhz band and if it does then you're in luck for some 3G TMO goodness.

FYI and I have heard of this issue before, Straight Talk gets varied reception in Metropolitian areas. Let me explain.
I have had ST for a few months now, on the NT7000. I have had zero issues.
A couple of caveats
DO NOT use more than 100mb/day or 2gb/month, whichever comes first. People have had their contracts terminated by ST for doing this. So not truly unlimited (but still more than decent deal). This is not a *hard* limit- I have done more without any issues by accident.
I get decent service in the suburb of NYC where I live (few tall buildings), actually much better service than Tmobile had.
However, in NYC itself, the service can be absolutely horrible depending on area. My guess for this phenomenon is that while you are on an ATT MVNO, this doesn't necessarily mean that you have the same roaming rights as regular ATT customers. In a metro area, roaming might be necessary to get signal in certain places.
My download speeds at 2gb down 1 up.
I would just buy a months' worth at first and try it out as prepaid, then port your number in.
From what I understand, you don't even need to buy the e71 like I did anymore

Which areas in Philly? I live in Philly but only manage to ever get Edge speeds on mine.

I use RedPocket. It's a MVNO of AT&T ....

I do. I got it with the SGS II and ow with the Note. up to 3mbs download. Good enough. MediaNet is $10 a month unlimited, I don't use nearly 2GB maybe less than 1 as I am in WiFi most of the time. I am using a Cingular.wap setting. Its different than the "smartphone" APN but the speeds are the same (until LTE is available) I don't need LTE speeds on a phone. I don't even get those speeds at home on cable. maybe 7Mbs DL.

Seriously, what does this mean for us N5 users? With the addition of Sprint Spark, the N5 can connect to literally EVERY band both companies have, 3G, HSPA+, T-Mo LTE, Sprint Band 25/26/41 LTE, etc...Will SoftBank issue new SIMs to utilize both networks? They might consolidate into GSM, but Sprint Spark is significantly more advanced then HSPA+/T-Mo LTE, and I think that they'd want to utilize that...Either way, should be interesting...

T-Mobile also has 20x20 LTE which is pretty fast. They're most likely going to go to VoLTE route.

in the end i dont really see a down side to any of this. just really hope they dont do away with unlimited data.

If you don't see a downside to this, you have never been on Sprint (lucky you). The absolute worst network has been hemorrhaging customers for quite a while for a reason, me as one of them. I am glad to see the rumor mill is for T-Mobile CEO to take the lead job, but I see great potential for my wonderful T-Mobile to be harmed mightily. Lets hope for the best

Speak for yourself. T-Mobile has 2G coverage in my town. Sprint(which I'm on) has 3G, and in the city next to me, Sprint has blanketed LTE, while T-Mobile has spotty HSPA and barely any LTE. In the sticks, Sprint is almost always better than T-Mobile, hell AT&T has more deadspots around my area than Sprint...

I'll be ok with the merger, as long as its like T-mobile taking sprint over, and not the other way around. Get rid of all sprint higher ups, and keep t-mobiles, because obviously the current t-mobile is much more capable then sprint has ever been since the sprint/nextel merger.
And i better get to keep my $30 100 min, unlim text 5gig data plan.

The most likely course of action is that the networks will remain as is and the combined company will transition to all LTE and eventually shut off the CDMA/GSM/UMTS networks completely.

Where I'm located (Houston Tx) T-Mobile sucks. I work w/ some guys who have great flagship devices and they have Tmo and are always getting dropped calls and data is spotty as all get out.
I'm in Biloxi Mississippi now and I have LTE about 70% of the time on Sprint. I have it 90% of the time in Houston and have for a while now. They have come a looooooooooong way. Guess it just depends on where you are located.

If this is seriously the final verdict of the merger...I have to say I'm terrified and excited all at the same time. Sprint is right next to Verizon with me..and I hate both of them, no opinion of AT&T though.
But I'm excited because as long as Legere is still CEO I don't think us original T-Mobile clients have to worry too much (been with T-Mobile since 1999)..and hopefully we end up on a grandfathered plan so we don't lose features or have an insane price hike... Because the most important thing to me on my plan is unlimited data.
Edit : this makes sense now and it goes along with Uncarrier 5.0... Legere wanted to increase revenue...so he got did away with 15% discounts with programs like Triple A (AAA) and made it so only government and military workers are the only ones capable of getting a discount)

AT&T now has service in my area and everywhere else around me. I'm cheap so obviously I want to choose Cricket over AT&T or GoPhone and yes I'm aware there is 8mbps cap for LTE and 4mbps for HSPA but that doesn't bother me.
Anybody using Cricket? Calling/SMS/MMS/Data reliable? I've seen mixed reviews on Cricket.

I use Straight Talk on AT&T towers. $50/month after taxes for 5GB of data and unlimited everything else. Plus, the speeds on Straight Talk AT&T are not capped, so it's well worth to me.

I considered straight talk and att gophone but I need 3 lines. 3 lines on Cricket would be $90 for 3GB data per line, $120 for 8gb data per line, or $150 for unlimited, taxes and fees included so it's the cheapest MVNO. Prices would go down even further getting 2 more people in and doing the group sharing. 8mbps is plenty for me and the other lines, we don't download large files on cellular and 8mbps is capable of streaming audio/video no problem.

Yes, almost two years now, very happy. I switched from Straight Talk due to poor communications and many local network outages (central coastal California halfway between SF and LA).
I'm on a plan for $45 a month ($50 without auto pay) and get 8 GB per month, no family, no mulltiline. Again very satisfied with Cricket.

Been with Cricket for over a year now. Love their unlimited plan. Usually go over 15GB no problem. Plus the hotspot workaround makes it even more worth it. Service and customer service are great. Much better than Straight Talk.

Perhaps I've simply been lucky with Straight Talk. I've never had a problem with their customer service when I needed it. As for the service itself, I use the AT&T side of things so it has been excellent for me. However Straight Talk uses all four carriers, so your mileage will vary, especially if you use Sprint.
I've given thought to switching to Cricket in the past, but I cannot get past the throttling aspect. To me, throttling LTE to HSPA speeds means you aren't truly getting LTE. You're not getting everything you're paying for. LTE = speed, and I don't want to be stuck in the slow lane.

yep, I am on Cricket Wireless and have been for 3 years. I use to juggle different prepay plans until I found Cricket. Works great for me no matter where I go.

I've used mine on Cricket with zero problems for over a year.The LTE caps haven't been an issue and I get good speeds consistently.Im on the $70 plan and used 64 gigs last month with no slow down.My average use per month runs around 30 gigs.I myself think they are far superior to straight talk but that's just my opinion.

So the current word is the Google Nexus 6 running Android 7.0 works 100% on cricket besides LTE band 30 for better indoor quality?
Does the hot-spot work fully without any hacking on the unlimited plan and does VoLte work with Cricket?

I am using Cricket on the Nexus 6 and everything is running great! I live in northern California and I get almost full bars every place I go. Just be sure to change your APN settings because the stock cricket one is iffy at best

Would you care to place a copy of your current apn settings up on the forum so that I can try it out with my phone once I get switched back to cricket.
And TBH I have noticed that cricket stock is iffy at best. Due to LTE aggregation it works faster than 8mbps on standard LTE but when using hot-spot my ps4 seems to get like no speed at all, took 13+ hours to download bf4 but that was also with an avg. 2 bars in my house as most of crickets phones do not have band 30 LTE so they don't normally have good indoor coverage in any place but tons of towers where pretty much every carrier and tower has full signal or 4 bars

Due to LTE aggregation it works faster than 8mbps on standard LTE but when using hot-spot my ps4 seems to get like no speed at all, took 13+ hours to download bf4 but that was also with an avg. 2 bars in my house as most of crickets phones do not have band 30 LTE so they don't normally have good indoor coverage in any place but tons of towers where pretty much every carrier and tower has full signal or 4 bars

yup! i tried all the cricket ones and they were not reliable. When i change to the ATT APN everything worked great, no problems what so ever

I did this with a T-Mobile one on metropcs, usually a 3 Mbps boost but sometimes it'll read 16 on metro mmsc and 22 on tmo

Cricket has been good for me so far, I was on fi then switched to mint because I'm always looking for a deal or promotion and I switched to cricket got a free phone that I sold on eBay. They use at&t towers which have been fine for me.

Unlocked Bands and the Snapdragon 835

So I was thinking about current carriers and of course mvno's. (Currently on at t USA)
Theoretically the unlocked version of Snapdragon 835 has a lot of different bands it can use. Works fine on at t for me.
I am curious though, would some mnvo like net10 (access to multiple carriers) be able to uniquely take advantage of all the available lte bands that it can use )ex at t and TMobile depending on which has better speed or even use both?
Or does it not work that way. Does anyone have more knowledge then I do here?
Does anyone have experience with mvno's and how they work. I always shied away from them assuming they get secondary bandwidth compared to primary at t Verizon etc users.

I don't know what you mean. All OnePlus 5's are unlocked, They only difference is international or a Chinese variant. This means none are carrier locked but they only have GSM radios so they only work on AT&T or T-Mobile with LTE data. So whatever MVNO you use, has to be a T-Mobile or AT&T MVNO. The Bands are all unlocked it's just what band the carrier uses will it take advantage of from the MVNO.

that is partly incorrect there was some videos of a few well known reviewers in the android community that tested the oneplus 5 on verizon and it works .....including data.

No not incorrect at all. I said they only work on AT&T T-Mobile with LTE data. The Verizon thing you're talking about is 3G and less. What I said, it's 100% correct

On that note, there is only a single global version of the OnePlus 5. No Chinese only version.
Supporting the comments about Verizon though; it does work, but like you said, not well with data. Though the phone does support a single CDMA band. More useful for emergency calls than actually putting a SIM in it.

Same hardware though. So yes, again, technically correct that there is a version with a different OS but not correct that they have different support for bands. Which is what we're talking about.
Which is probably what you meant, just wasn't very clear.

So only some MVNO's have speeds limited by the big carriers. Others are treated identically. My wife is on cricket (ATT network, $35/month), her data speeds are capped at 10 Mbps (which is fine for her). I'm on straight talk (ATT network, $45/month) and my data speeds are identical to regular ATT customers (and I've confirmed by doing speedtest.net tests with a friend's phone side by side).
T-Mobile and Sprint coverage stink near me, and Verizon really limits what phones you can get, so I've stuck with ATT MVNO's over the years (been on straight talk since 2012). For heavy data users, straight talk has an 8gb data, unlimited talk/text for $45/month. If you don't need 8gb and you don't stream video/tether, you'd be better off on cricket, which is $35/month for 3gb+unlimited talk/text. Cricket also has dope family plans (5 lines for $100).
Be warned, straight talk customer service is awful. The only time you ever really need to call them is if you want to port your number over or if you forget to pay your bill (or your auto pay card expires or something). They can do simple stuff, but it's often like talking to a brick wall. Cricket customer service is MUCH better and if you don't need the extra speed, cricket is the way to go.
I have no affiliation with either cricket or straight talk, they've never paid me a dime to say anything nice about them, I'm just a very happy customer.

I have the OnePlus 5 and use it on Verizon. I have got lte to work on bands 2 and 4. It isn't ideal but it works.
