The downgrade most likely caused it. You are NOT supposed to downgrade

Thanks for reply but I wonder, why downgrade can cause flash MPRG8960.hex and MSM8960_bootloader_singleimage.bin to CPU dosent work ?
I think the hex and bin may include bootable something can make CPU boot to fastboot mode, on top of android boot loader and system and partition table.
Where am I wrong ?

Downgrade is the problem for sure. I had a 443 that i downgraded to 442, the reloaded 4.4.3 and it bricked hard. Moto does something with the gpt aka partitions and security that makes downgrading "inadvisable" and usually fatal. I had to get mine replaced by moto

No, you just need to find right files to flash.
If somebody need try to use my files. Works great after downgrading from 4.4.4
How to use:
1. install driver to QHSUSB_DLOAD. watch how to on top.
2. unzip my files to one folder.
3. install python 2.7 (checking "Add python.exe to path" is a must!).
4. go to command line to your folder from point 2.
5. execute "python qdload.py MPRG8960_MOTO.bin -ptf partitions.txt -pt".
After that you'll have working fastboot to flash complete firmware.
P.S. flash only the last version (4.4.4) to avoid repeat of briking!!!!
D:! thanks!

My good sir, your post has just got my moto x to fastboot after a good 3 hrs of him dead. BTW my moto is a 1053 variant, and it worked good, i mean, it is in fastboot mode, even thougth, it is locked, and says many wrong things like 0xdead, which i think it was just his past state. I'll keep flashing till this mudafuka explodes! thanks again!
i repeat, this script worked at a xt1053

Hi all,
prior to any comment, yes, i know there are already posts on this issue, however looking through them didn't help at all unfortunately.
I have a Moto Milestone, origin is Israel.
somewhere along the way i've updated the bootloader to 90.78 and since then - the phone is stuck in the notorious loop and cannot restart the OS.
Tried already to reflash the phone without luck using RSD Lite (downloaded the SBF through http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone - the 'official' Cellcom IL SBF that was there...)
anyway - i can still access the bootloader which tells me the phone is not fully bricked, however i can't seem to find any proper SBF so it'll reflash itself back to an operative state.
One major problem here - the phone won't get into recovery mode (i've tried all the combinations i know and that have worked before)
i've also read about wiping the cache and user data however - as far as i know, this can only be done by entering the recovery mode, right?
one last resort i've tried - trying to split the SBF and reconstructing it - still no joy.
does anyone here have any advice or solution o this issue? what kind of SBF do i need? how to manually reconstruct the SBF with proper files? etc.
Thanks in advance,
Tomer
Have you tried loooking into fastboot?
Sometimes a phone wont respond to to adb commands and the recovery is corrupted, but you can still flash partitions using fastboot. I "saved" a Moto dext in this fashion once. Cant remember the exact commands, but it was similar to the adb flash commands. I reflashed the recovery partition and then used recovery to flash a ROM in update.zip format. For some reason RSD lite was failing on this phone.
Just something you may want to look into if you are desperate about saving your MS.

Hi Caz666,
well, thought this might actually work, but had no luck.
when i try to flash my phone it does nothing other than showing me 'downloading boot.img' and thats it.
is there anything else to do in order to save my phone? i really like it
I'm also willing to donate through PayPal to anyone who can describe any working method or that can point me to any valid working process...
thanks again.

are you sure your drivers for the phone are installed properly? what RSD lite version are you using? What system? windows 32 or 64 bits?

I'm quite sure they're installed properly as i managed to upgrade my bootloader version using the RSDlite.
my system is 32 bits and the drivers are the ones i installed throught the Motorola website. I've first used RSDlite 4.6 but after reading a bit I understood there are some differences between versions hence upgraded to 4.9.

Try the 90.78ch bootloader from http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone ...
"XT702 variant of the 90.78 bootloader (notes from 90.78 apply here too).
It's reported to work on the A853 too. "
You've got nothing to loose on trying this. Let me know!

I'm now on 90.78ch and see no difference whatsoever.
I've now started investigating how to re-compile an older SBF file so it'll contain the new RAMDL
(I want to flash the Brazilian version however it contains only 90.74 RAMDL)
I've compiled a new file, however the checksum is incorrect.
How it is possible to recompile this properly?
Already tried the website, the mirror there is no leading to the bootloader itself but to a wiki site.
i've tried searching almost anywhere i know, but this bootloader is non available to download.
if there's another mirror site such as rapidshare or megaupload - i'd be happy to be pointed towards it..

You locked yourself out by upgrading the bootloader to the latest one.
Neither downgrade of bootloader would be possible, nor flashing older firmware SBF's.
Apart from that the milestone uses signature check on certain parts of the firmware. I really doubt that it's possible to tweak/recompile a complete SBF.
Something worth to try, is to flash vulnerable recovery SBF from within bootloader mode using RSDlite.
Here's the link to gitorious: http://gitorious.org/droid/openrecovery/blobs/master/zips/SHOLS/vulnerable_recovery.sbf
If the link does not work for you, there are also some mirrors of this file floating around. Just search!
I guess this should work, because the recovery SBF is using RAMLDR 90.78 (do know about the sign check during flash, but i guess checksum should be O.K.).
With vulnerable recovery properly installed, you might then use OpenRecovery to check your system and restore to some working state.
Good luck!

Thanks Scholbert for the detailed answer.
the link you gave directs to an image the RSDlite cannot flash (=error validating image).
If your interntion was that I'm supposed to flash the vulnerable recovery only, than bad news - It's already 'installed' on my device (and it shows no error whatsoever during this installation..)
Well, thanks again for trying to help, I think I'm officially out of suggestions or options here unless anyone can give further advice...

No, never did (since the upgrade)
If I had access to the recovery i would have at least managed to install OpenRecovery or something and manage to reflash the device

Did you try to fastboot flash only the boot.img? What about recovery? I seem to remember flashing a recovery.img on the dext...but this was last year. I may be wrong but i believe i flashed only a recovery image and then was able to access the recovery (which would allow all sorts of additional goodies).
I find it strange that fastboot reports only downloading. I seem to remember some error messages and timeouts?

Nope.
trying to flash the recovery / boot images only results in the message 'downloading...' and nothing (waited for like 3 hours..)
when I terminate the action by Ctrl+C and then trying again - the message is instantly 'FAILED..' along with specification that the action of sending the command has failed.
I'm literaly out of ideas, don't know what to do..

I am starting to think that there is something wrong with your device (like broken hardware).
In all my experimenting with rsd/fastboot, i did not once get a "hang". I would get checksum/signature errors, size errors, etc...but i always got some type of error code or status.
This is on 3 different Mot devices that run Android.
Sorry

The device was working fine before upgrading the bootloader, so it seems that this is not a hardware issue.
Either way - guess i'll be taking it to a lab and let them figure this out..

The filesystem is different, but the basic understanding is the same. bos is the bootloader, boot is kernel, cdrom is the mounted ISO, gpt is the partition table, logo is the boot logo, ulogo is the unlocked version of bootlogo, radio, recovery, system. A few others like ifwi, dnx, and sp.img I am not too familiar with. I am posting my firmware charger (includes German O2), on here and DroidRzr.com (got a post here now).
If you want to stay safe only flash system and boot. I haven't done anything else and been find. Been on German, Brasil, EU, GB firmwares all on my GB device with GB radio fine. If you want add me on gtalk and I can help with what I can ([email protected])
Thanks for Reply, i'll add the warning in to the Fastboot Thread, after open it tomorrow. I guess i will have some Questions, so i will send you an Message via GTalk.
Meanwhile i'm lurking on Amazon and the i will be realesed in Germany tomorrow.
We'll see, maybe something new to play with this year...

Maybe, it's not a big secret...it's common android debugging commands. I've already posted the system backup command, and pulling the boot.img is just a dd command to copy it to the SD card.
Code:
adb shell
su
make_ext4fs -s -l 885768704 -a system /sdcard/system.img.ext4 /system
dd if-/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 of=/sdcard/boot.img
Yeah I saw it before, but where ever the questions is, we should be able to find the answer

What all did you flash to try to go back to 5.0? You should never try to downgrade the bootloader (motoboot.img) or the partition table (gpt.bin).

What all did you flash to try to go back to 5.0? You should never try to downgrade the bootloader (motoboot.img) or the partition table (gpt.bin).

not fix 1085
the 1085 flash
when flash the blank flash qboot
the phone not in fastboot or qshsub 9008 mode.
the phone connect to computer 05c6:9008 device,
I need to find aftermarket fix it
But still thank you
So , i've bought moto x2 from ebay. as a title says it's prototype version. with unlocked bootloader, At&T(but sim unlocked), With adroid 4.4.3 . phone has different construction, as frame from ordinary moto x2 doesnt fit and i have to cut some plastic to fit that frame. prototype come without power button, i think it was inside of motorola logo (as it was seen on prototype version of Droid turbo), that's whay i did all that stuff.
BTW pc see's it as XT912A ( no it's not razr )
now about these thread. i want to ask devs if they want any kind of information from this . i've done nothing yet (rooting, changing rom ,ect)
i'll post some pics later if anyone wants to see it
yeah, pics would be great!
here is some pics
2nd screenshot shows camrera app additional settings, 3rd shows some motorola test apps.
btw forgot to mention this one have bigger camera, it's also 10mp but slightly bigger . pictures taken by it have "cross processing" effect (check it in photoshop tutorial). can't take "normal" , only with that effect
Here is more pics and more info.
prototype phone have toshiba eMMC instead of sandisk (as it's on pure edition xt1095) also, Ram is different it's from hynix instead of Elpida.
Last pic is from pure edition (1095) you can see difference
no one is interested ?
really?

Not a dev, but I think this is super interesting to look at. Do you notice any performance differences with the different NAND and DRAM?

software isn't as stable as it should be, sometimes it crashes , lags ,ect .. so i can't see difference.
i've tested it with antutu and got 38,6K . i think it's same as other variants , but not quite sure.. also it's on 4.4.3 non stable soft and some motorola "crap" , like bug reporting app ...
as i know Elpida chips is more hotter than hynix ( at least on amd video cards) , but i'm not using phone for "heavy tasks" to see how hot it will get. it gets warm/hot while charging with turbo charger, thats all i can say about temperature's
This is the first Moto X I've seen with bootloader status code 1. Maybe its fresh from the factory.

it is, that's why there is this thread.
it's motorola test device, prototype or whatever you want to call it.
Very interesting. I'd be curious to see an Antutu test side by side on clean flash on the prototype and clean flash on the production product. Probably slight differences from read/write speeds between disk manufacturers. Have any specific plans with this device?

I do not have pure edition anymore with me. so i can't test them side by side. also they had different version of software and i think result will be different at least by that factor.
Plan? i don't know. i'm thinking to flash it to pure edition if that's possible .. maybe there is different partition table? who knows D
no devs is interested in this, so...
Where Is It Now?
do you still have this prototype device with you?

Great lets get this thing works , i am not wrong after flashing moto pure you will get around 8.33 or something internal memory? Need xml file of pure paste it somewhere pls and if you again flash the whole rom what will you get? Imei null baseband null?
Yes that's tottally right . i've sent xml in pm
null
Salik Iqbal said:
Flash the xt1095 full rom let the baseband become unknown.. Boot it normally, After first boot done with unknown imei and baseband download this file:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwveYeacNbidbXM5RU5ROW5HWTQ/view?usp=sharing
And then replace fsg.mbn from stock folder with this fsg.mbn, reboot device into fastboot mode And just flash these manually from fastboot mode..
Fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
Fastboot erase modemst1
Fastboot erase modemst2
Fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
Fastboot reboot
Done! You will get the signals and data back .. Do let me know if this works for you.. Next step will be more partition for device 8gb to 10gb lol!

Yes you have to keep that fsg.mbn which i gave you with every rom you use, this fsg.mbn is from 912A made for that prototype.. You need it every time you flash any rom. Okie next step is 10gb stuff.. Flash any latest rom you need and then flash twrp recovery and do a backup of system, and boot. Pull the backup and save it somewhere in your hard drive. And then find xt1085 stock rom, google it you will find one. When download is complete flash xt1085 full rom.. Next steps after you will done with this

Yes, i've flashed it again and it worked again . I haven't done backup when it was on stok , that was my mistake
I'll do that stuff , after i get in home .
Any way it says that 7,XX GB has system and other 8.33 is usable . So it still have 16GB... However almost 8gb is too much for system, right?
Hello everyone.
Unfortunately my lg g4 bootlooped. And after extensive Google search, i see that most models have a tot file which disables big cores so u can run the phone on the small cores
Does the T-Mobile variant have such a tot file? if yes then can somebody give me the link? if no then can somebody create one using the following info?
Agimax said:
Why not just edit the files below for the two large cores (if you have root):
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu4/online (open file and change from a one to a zero)
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu5/online (open file and change from a one to a zero)
You could also just have the startup file do it (can modify the ripped system partition & put back on phone):
etc/dir/init.qcom.post_boot.sh (find your processor code - 8992 and add echo lines there with the rest of the cpu commands)

Someone also fixed the Nexus 6 bootloop by creating modified images which disable the big cores.
Can't we(mostly you, you're the big dev) create a similar modified image that we can flash through LGUP?

Afaik you need a box to create tot files.
Besides this I have never created any big core disabling but I know @the_naxhoo has.
if you can reach the download mode you could flash with the lglaf shell a modified boot image which is doing the job. If you do not have Linux get your copy of FWUL which has everything on board (like the lglaf shell).
The modded boot image has to disable the cores either by the cmdline or the sys echo or both. I saw that cmdline thing during my unlock attempts and think those are much better then the echo to sys..
Creating a kdz would be maybe possible
creating a TWRP zip for sure but I'm very very busy at the moment...
So just one more time (as still not answered.. ) do you had TWRP installed before the bootloop occurs?
...and If so what happens when you try to get into it?
.

Cmdline is how I disabled the cores on the Nexus, the fix is easy to do on a boot.img, but LG uses the KDZ files, which use a totally different file structure, and I'm not sure if the LG flash tool has file checks, even on unlocked bootloaders. I will do some research and see what I can do. If anyone has any knowledge on modifying kdz files, please tell me.

asked steadfasterx about kdz and his reply is as follows
steadfasterX said:
me too. never created KDZs yet but there are tools for it - afaik.
My first approach would have been to flash the boot image in the download mode with the lglaf shell (https://github.com/steadfasterX/lglaf/tree/g4) .
requires to do a flash of a modified boot image with dd on /dev/block/mmcblk0 with the correct seek ..
