Installed safestrap finally. Now before I install any ROMS do I have to do this step first "Activate: Makes the chosen ROM-slot the “current” one, where almost all of the features of TWRP affect that slot. This will also be the ROM that is booted"
After thats done then the custom rom gets installed in slot 2 and then when the phone reboots can I tell which slot to use ?

If you're on kit Kat it's not adviseable to use ROM slots. Best to stick to the stock slot
So reinstall the new rom to stick slot instead and the phone will boot right up instead of me hitting continue on the safestrap recovery during the initial boot.
I thought install new rom on different slot so if anything goes wrong I can still boot up the stock rom..
ROM slots are a work in progress according to the OP for SS. They do not work in SS 3.75 if you're on KK.
i`m on KK and rom slots work for me ,I just created one rom slot and work, but I prefer the stock slot
not everyone will run the rom slots

That is interesting. I've been hesitating to flash because I didn't want to use my stock slot.

cm 10.2.1 works great in rom slot 2 on my droid4, but not in the stock slot. Is there something different I have to do?
I activated the stock slot, did a Factory Reset, installed cm and gapps. It boots, shows the safestrap splash screen, then goes to a black screen with the backlight on. Nothing after that.
I can connect with adb and see the logs, there are repeated heap dumps from something crashing, but I don't see a line saying what. It appears to be trying to start AndroidRuntime and dalvik (same thing?) over and over. Does this give anyone a clue?
I also tried wiping /system after a factory reset, but it just hangs on the black screen, no change.
Before this, I had the latest OTA in the stock slot, and I was running eclipse rom 1.0.8 (or something) in slot 1. I am able to restore my safestrap backup of the stock slot and the stock rom still works.
You can only safely install Cyanogen in ROM-Slot 1. Never try to install to the stock ROM slot. Slots 2 and 3 are touch and go. It's best to just stick with ROM-Slot 1.
If you've already installed it in the stock ROM slot, then you'll likely have to restore your phone using SBF/fastboot files and start the whole process over from a stock system. :\

The note on the cyanogen site says "Builds older than 09/01/2013 must be installed on rom-slot1." I've read threads where people are using cm and aokp in the stock slot, so I thought it would work.
Any idea why it can't work in the stock slot? Safestrap seems to create image files for virtual filesystems of system, cache, and userdata which are obviously just imitating the stock partitions. I guess you need to bypass that logic, so can I just tweak the fstab or something? I'm curious what other magic safestrap is doing (or the cm/aokp roms) that needs to be adjusted for stock.
Nevermind, I figured out my mistake. I was on an old version of safestrap. Upgraded to safestrap-maserati-3.65, flashed latest nightly cm11 to stock slot, and it works. Great job cyanogenmod!
I went through the process of Rooting my phone with the towelroot process. Got superuser installed and running without tripping Knox.
Installed Busybox and Installed safestrap. Knox still not tripped. then backed up my stock rom on my internal drive.. I tried using the default sizes and
installing [ROM] FireNote Mj5 Deodex V14 on ROM 1 slot and then rebooted but it stayed at a black screen with just my blue LED lit up at the top of the
screen. let it set for ten mins like this and nothing happen. so i pulled the battery and booted back up, now im able to get back into safe strap but i can not
find any files of my back up or of the firenote mj5 to try to reinstall it.
Is there a way from here that i can try and put the stock rom back on and start over? like using odin or anything?
Ive had that same problem . You might have to download a rom to your external sd card and flash it in the stock slot cause the extra slots work sometimes and sometimes not . You can change from internal to external sd towords the top in safestrap and your roms might be there. But you need to find out if you were on kitkat or jb cause you cant mix them . Read the rom posts carefuly its very important . Forget the slots til your phone will boot to a rom.

You flashed a jb rom on a kk bootloader= softbrick. Pick a kk rom next time and pls. Checkout the new ss for nc2 users it's ver. 3.75.

thank you, but how do i get the rom on the sd card. wont i have to format it when i mount it to my phone.
Just do a factory reset to the stock slot and then flash but if your trying to restore your factory rom then go where it says restore if you can find your backup if not then install a rom in the stock slot . Were you on kitkat or jb? You might have to get a computer to download a rom to a sd card from this forum if you didnt have one on there and i dont think you will have to format it the phone will read what its allowed to read by the system witch will be whatever rom you put on it . But if you installed the wrong safestrap and you were on official kk then i dont know how to fix it .you will have to wait till someone with more smarts than me can help you.

Yeah, but you need to update safestrap to 3.72, backup your stock slot, THEN flash the CM of your choice(I got the latest snapshot build), get the no_metadata gapps and flash those too. Was a smooth flash for me, but you do need to update safestrap to 3.72 on your stock rom before you do anything at all.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks. Will try it out soon
This are pretty much the instructions
Made a full backup of Stock and moved it to my computer. Then flashed CM11 on the Stock slot after doing a factory reset from Safestrap
Remember to update Safestrap, or you wont be able to flash over stock.
I have safestrap 3.72 TWRP v. 2.7.0.0
Every time I try to install a rom, i hear the piano noises and the screen stays black when booting it,
All I want is a rom that will work with 3.72 because currently there is no OS or Rom so my phone is unusable.
Please help and thank you very much!! :crying::crying:

Sounds like you may have wiped stock rom slot without installing a ROM afterwards...safestrap is just a workaround so you always have to have a ROM on stock slot...weird that a ROM slot is working ok though
Try restoring a backup to stock slot if you have one otherwise you might want to odin flash NC2 to get your system back.

when you say install a backup, is there a particular file that I need to install in the stock rom slot?
Whenever I try to put a rom in that slot, the device says "no os found"

I meant restore a backup from safestrap. Restore should be one of the options on the main screen in safestrap recovery. If you made a backup of stock slot before you wiped/flashed it try restoring that backup...otherwise you'll probably have to use Odin to reflash NC2
GT-I8910N
TWRP 2.8 installed as 2.6 failed to update binary.
That issue resolved, still I get no sim card detected on any custom rom installed.
Each time I restore to a stock Samsung rom, everything works perfectly again.
I've tried Slim, CM, Omni, different rom versions.
All give me no sim detected.
Any ideas please, TIA
Seems like a Baseband compatibility issue..
I tried an alternative baseband & it made the phone go super slow, any suggestions please, TIA.

Try another.
Then reflash the rom.
Doesn't the rom overwrite the baseband with the included version?
Depends on the rom.
Ok so I need to find a ROM that doesn't overwrite baseband, this should be fun
Thanks BTW.
Trying to to describe my problem: original ROM worked perfectly, CM11.0 for S3 Mini worked perfectly, CM12.1 for S3 Mini worked perfectly. Before the sale it, I would like put back original ROM and before flash over Odin I start made factory reset in phone menu and after what the phone does not recognize the SIM card. I tried falshing over TWRP recovery CM12.1 again, all working, but-no SIM card, I tried flashing older CM11.0- all working excluded SIM card. Then I tried flash over Odin original ROM back, but flashing failed-reason modem.bin fail. After the failure stock ROM flashing phone is not booted and the only option is flash CM11.0 or CM 12.1 again and and to start the phone setting again. I tried my SIM- card other phones- not working, no SIM card, and I tried over good working SIM cards in my phone-nor working, no SIM card. Is it possible to get broke at one time phone SIM card slot and Sim card itself. Some people say that these errors improve the original ROM, but I can not flash back stock ROM, because Odin failed some modem.bin reason. Can anybody help me resolve modem.bin error and flash back stock ROM?
