I'm having trouble doing a TWRP backup. It always fails when it gets to backing up system. I've tried backing up to both internal and external but it fails every time. I thought maybe I needed to update TWRP so I did and that didn't help either.
I've already made 2 backups on other roms but now that I'm on FireKat I can't make any backups. I've also done the SD card fix too and that didn't help.
Anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Flash something else. See if you can back up. I forgot what ROM but in one of them it has no md5. Worst thing possible.

I tried that and it did the trick. I didn't go through with setting everything up like I like and just went straight to backup and it worked. Hope you are right that it might be the room and hopefully it's not how I setup my phone.

First i backup sms and my apps with mybackup pro. I then tick every option in TWRP and do backup from there. Should I be doing backups in a different way? Don't think I've ever backed up imei and not sure how too.

i am currently in the middle of a nandroid backup that has been going for about an hour should i pull the battery? i really dont want to corrupt my card because most of my music is on it and i just bought a new computer hard drive because my old one f*cked itself. Any suggestions?
Ive had the same problem. I dont think you need to pull the battery, I just press call (green) menu and end (red). Then delete the nandroid folder on your sd card and reboot into recovery and try backing up again.
i tried what you said, cause i had the same problem just now, and its still taking long. the only difference is the little dots a coming up a little faster. help?
help? anybody? im trying it a third time right now.. hopefully its works
should not take more than 2 minutes I have had this happen once pulled battery deleted nandroid file and started again and it worked.
ive tried everything and its just not working

no they do not.
tried those things and it didnt work
i just found out that the reason the nandroid backup wasnt ending for me was because there wasnt enough space on my sdcard. I feel soo stupid now, thanks guys
how much space did you need?
I ask your help please I'm desperate!
I have a captivate-i897 which by mistake you delete the contents (with root explorer) to the EFS partition, which it is made without losing the IMEI and put a generic, I can not make calls or sms.
If you can help me just ask you with this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=18524176
make a backup of your EFS and passes it to me, to see if achievement fix.
Please make the backup in .tar format.
I really need your help, thanks
Sorry for my bad English
Loading someone else's efs folder will only get you the same generic IMEI.

As weird as this may sound, flash Mosaic 9. I've had bad EFS setups twice in the last 2 weeks, and both times have been able to get back to normal by flashing that ROM.
I think it may have something to do with zombies understanding how to handle undead phones... or something.

Did you delete your data, system, safestrap is gone, only download mode and stock recovery are available? Do you want to start fresh and out of the box new?
(( FOR s 5 ACTIVE )) NE4Thanks to @ted77usa & @Intub8 for the help. SAM MOBILE for the Firmware and steps. KNOX was not tripped. Nothing was after this. It worked perfectly.
Just FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS
Do this at your own risk. If you don't read and mess up your phone, its not my fault . As long as you can get into download mode, this will help out a lot. I am not responsible for what you do to your device.
Odin Back to s5 Active Stock. NE4
Make sure you have the Samsung drivers installed before starting.
Samsung USB drivers
Make sure USB debugging is checked under settings/developer options. If you don't know how to do that, go to "about device" in settings, and click on "Build Number x5 till you unlock Developer options".
Extract (unzip) the firmware file (NE4) HERE
Download Odin v3.09 HERE
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes
Note : Some users are getting stuck at long At&t screen, once odin finishes and you happen to get stuck, reboot to stock recovery and factory reset your phone.
It should boot up just fine after that. The At&t screen sometimes takes a while.
You can do this below if you want. I have done this about 5 or 6 times. #6 and 7 happens sometimes.
I wanted to be totally fresh and wanted to use "Wipe Data (YES)" in safestrap. Here is what I did and what happened.
My phone has been really good since this and all is smooth.
Things to do to be fresh and start all the way over out of box style:
1. Make sure you have done a back up, and your ready to restore with Odin.
2. Go into Safestrap
3. Go to WIPE tab > Factory reset
4. Advanced wipe, (Wipe > Dalvik Cache, "NOT Micro SDcard"> Data, Cache, System)
5. For really starting over > next to Advanced wipe is "Format Data" do that and type YES
6. This will get rid of safestrap and everything so you will get a black screen once it deletes all.
7. Try to catch it and go into download mode before it boots to the Samsung screen (Which it will stay there FOREVER)
(As soon as your phone does this, try to catch it before the samsung screen and go into download mode. When it turns black, quickly hold Power + Volume down + home button. )
8. While in download mode, flash the restore firmware.
9. Let it do its thing and you will be factory new.
10. After it all settles down and you are back up and running, you can start like I do.
(Root with V3 (Make it Rain), Install and update SU, Reboot 3 times lol, install busybox, install safestrap, install xposed, reboot, install your modules, reboot, power down and boot back but go into safestrap and wipe dalvik cache and regular cache. Reboot. lol- Install all your apps you like or have your backups from titanium on your sd card and restore) Reboot and go into safestrap again and fix permissions and reboot lol...... BAM. (Your phone should be sick and you should throw up on it)

What plunge are you talking about dude? I have soft bricked my phone (formated data) and used this to start fresh. The more we know the better. I have done it. Its fine. If you go back to stock and the GPS still doesn't initiate let me know. There was a way to hard reset the GPS that I came across on the gs3 that may work. Every time I flash a rom if it's acting goofy I wipe everything and go back to 100% stock. Sometimes things get stuck and left behind that can muck things up. Think of it like a colon clense for your phone. Glad the Odin worked for you.

Yes, Please share if you don't mind. I broke the GPS lol. Found it after about an hour of looking , You must Odin back to a stock ROM first.
((((2. Enter into dialer *2767*3855# (Will do a HARD reset, no internal storage will be lost except the usual data)
3. Boot up again and run... )))
keep in mind this was the method to fix the gps on the note 2 and it may or may not still be a good dialer code for your s5.

And @Caliesv I would ask you Why Not? The whole point of unlocking/rooting/building custom ROMs is because WE CAN, and how better to learn what we can and can't do then by trying? Just because a device has its own firmware has absolutely no bearing on what ROM you flash, granted as the default firmware it likely wont flash do to a signature mismatch but as a custom ROM why not?
I might just build one for the Heck of it.
GPS is a problem still. About to re-flash the restore and see what happens without root. Will report back.
So yesterday my Note 4 was behaving weird. Would only charge at USB levels no matter what cable, outlet, or charger I used including the factory stuff. Then I figured I'll restore the phone and go from there. Well when I plugged it into the computer, nothing popped up. Even in Download mode there was no way to acknowledge this was connected to my computer. So I went into T-Mobile, bought a new Note 4 and started rebuilding what I lost. Finished that all up and everything was working smooth. Well I just checked now and its doing the exact same things and this is brand new out of the box. I am running FireKat V10 (V2 on my original note 4). I'm curious if anyone has any input because I'm extremely frustrated now. Everything was working fine even after I installed FireKat. It didn't seem to happen until I migrated to my bed. The only variable that changed between working and no longer working was the outlet. Is that frying something? Please help.
So I take it that I am SOL on this then?

It worked fine after I flashed though. It just randomly did this. I did restore some apps from a backup and that was probably the last little thing I did.
I'd love to go back to stock but I can't get it to recognize on any computer I've tried. Drivers are all there, there just isn't any connection.
For going back to stock I'd try a different version of Odin. We use 3.0.4

If you have done ur Rom already issue might be a bad download. Go with a stock deodex clean slate. If it don't help you then I would have to say pc is your issue. You might have to find drivers and delete them and reinstall.

I was thinking maybe more towards hardware issues. It was working fine before hand. And my previous note 4 was running firekate v2 since that Roms release. It all just happened randomly. I want to blame the charger shorting something but also wary of maybe a virus or something embedding itself because this, a brand new phone, seemingly had this issue occur after I moved charging locations (with the Samsung cable and charger) but that was also after I restored a couple apps from a nandroid backup. I've never flashed a stock ROM back to a phone without Odin so I was hoping you could help? If all else fails I'll just get it unroofed and stock again and take it to T-Mobile and tell them this is a dud
So I gave flashing stock a shot and it didn't change anything. I have to assume the issue is hardware. I'm hoping I can get a new replacement and not a refurbished one. The phone is dead in the water for me now. It takes 9 hours to charge and I've lost any sort of possibility to use the USB. This really drags me down.

Since you're using TWRP then that's the best. Make a backup of all partitions. If there is a problem while restoring try to restore one by one, maybe some cannot be restored, can't say nothing here. But a nandroid TWRP backup is the way to go, yes.

Hey, I backed up the file in steps, cause I did not had a big SD card at hand. The problem I am facing is I cannot backup system image. How can I backup that file? Is it important? Btw all back ups are done using twrp and I just realised that I could have just backed everything up in the phone storage and then copied it all as one file on to my laptop.

I haven't had any experience with TWRP or such things on phones newer than the Galaxy S5. I don't see a point to root or tinker with my Note 9 as it's perfect stock so can't really test if i can backup the system image myself. All things are important in a backup, is it grayed out or something? I'd always do a full 1 backup though, not in parts. Seems easier to restore later.
