Hey all
Xiaomi's Phablet device has been on the streets for a while now. Coming in 2 variants, a 1GB RAM model with 8GB of memory and a 2GB version with 16GB of memory, both can be upgraded by way of a SD card. It sports a 5.5" IPS display and a 1.4Ghz/1.7GHz Octa-core processor. Feel free to comment on the overall specifications and design of the Xiaomi Redmi Note:good:

Nice phone for the money.
Be better if kernel source were released so the xda wizards could
do some development.
Already own this. Enhanced version.
do we know if this device gets official MIUI V6 or KitKat in general ?????
MIUI 6 for sure.
This is indeed a nice device.
One question does this device has screen protection such as Gorilla Glass or Dragontrail Glass like Redmi/Hongmi 1s?

Doesn't list it in the specs. Just says it is an IPS-LCD Screen.
IPS stands for in-plane switching. An IPS-LCD is a type of thin display that offers better viewing angles than TFT-LCDs. IPS-LCDs feature two transistors for each pixel, where TFT-LCDs use just one. This requires a more powerful backlight, which delivers more accurate colors, and allows the screen to be viewed from a wider angle. The downside is that an IPS-LCD may consume more power than a TFT-LCD.
IPS-LCDs typically are found on high-end cell phones and portable devices. Apple's iPhone and iPad both feature IPS-LCDs, as does the Motorola Droid.
where can you buy the 16gb version?
i found the 2gb ram version here but it says it only has 8gb
with regard to the 2g/3g it says it supports:
2G: GSM 900/1800/1900MHz
3G: WCDMA 900/2100MHz
does this mean i would get full HSDPA speeds on the Three network in the UK like i do currently with my Galaxy Note 1 (N7000)
No

May not get. It won't take time to do so for them. When indian companies like xolo did for many 1 year old phones immediately after release, why can't Xiaomi?
http://en.miui.com/thread-67454-1-1.html
All Redmi phones will get MIUI 6 developer version and stable version; We will try our best to release some beta versions by the end of Dec. 2014
I think the device is pretty great for the price tag.
Got some really nice specs of you ask me.
Works great in general use, web surfing with chrome is butter smooth and sweet gaming performance as well.
My only hardware issue is with the camera, despite being a 13 MP camera, it's pretty lame, but still you can get "okay" photos out of it.
And yea Btw, blame Mediatek for the source code. [emoji16]

We received an interesting tip today about a new LG Android smartphone named Optimus 4X. While the above render is not that conclusive, the thir screenshot reveals some rather interesting hardware specifications.
If this tip turns to be in some way true, LG Optimus 4X smartphone at its 8mm thin will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, boasts a 5.3 OLED HD touchscreen (an outrages 2650×1900 pixel resolution i would say), powered by a 2.2GHz processor, Mali T-604 GPU, 2.5 MB of RAM, 64GB of ROM (built-in memory storage), 4G LTE technology (up to 75Mbps), microSD card slot up to 32GB and a 3200mAh battery.
LG Optimus 4X also could sport an 18MP camera on the back, NFC-enabled, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and more. The whole list of specs looks out of this world for an Android device but in a world where the first Android tablet runs a Quad-core CPU since 2011. Who knows what 2012 has in stored for us. Anyways take it with a pinch of salt until get any kind of confirmation.

The phone is gonna be massive?
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
LG needs to establish itself as one of the top phone manufacturers. This is the kind of phone that would put them on top.
Sounds like somebody just added all his wet dreams into one model and then just doubled all values for good measure going "teheeheeeee". That phone is physically impossible to build atm inside a reasonably small and thing phonesized case, I'd say. Plus, a way to large jump. Why would a maker give up all the sales he can do with minute little improvements from year to year? That Mali GPU must be a wonfrous chip, if it wants to beat all other phones at 3D speed at that resolution. But who knows, maybe the pictrues are misleading and it's actually a huge brick

No I don't think vapourware will help LG. This is very very fake.

Just saying, I would buy any phone if it had a 2650×1900 resolution (at a reasonable price).
But yeah... definitely a fake.
The comparison written in Korean said...
the UI is Touchwiz 5.0
and the Screen using OLED isn't make sense.
I guess it is fake about the spec..
The one who post that comparison make a mistake, or a joke to us.
but, who knows? only LG does..
But one thing I'm pretty sure, LG would name one device called 4X in the future.
this is a fake news and fotos
if design on real phone, was like the one on pictures - this phone would be priceless)

No thanks! There's no way in hell I'm carrying a 5" phone (phablet?). That's still a niche market, just as the S3 is Samsung's main phone, and the Note 2 is their phablet offering. Even HTC has the One X+ which competes with the Nexus 4, and the DNA which competes with the Note 2.
Damn that phone is fugly!

You know the great thing about Android? Don't like the Nexus specs? There are a plethora of other devices from you to choose from.
Don't like the N4 specs. Don't buy it. And feel free to pay quite a bit more.
Actually many people thought that HTC was going to make the next Nexus. I was surprised to hear they went with lg.
HTC could have used the boost this year for sure.
sent via xda premium with nexus 7 while waiting for my back ordered Nexus 4!
Personally I am rather happy with the specs of the Nexus 4 as they are. Although I will concede that a 32gb version would have been preferred. I don't want a phone with a 1920 x 1080 display (I personally consider the current 1280 x 768 a bit overkill) and I most definitely would not bother with a phone that has a screen size of 5". I am already finding the 4.7" screen on the Nexus 4 to be a bit on the large size.
This may sound odd but I wish phone manufacturers would take a break from giving us ridiculous resolutions, huge ass screens and gazillions of teraflops. Instead I wouldn't mind them concentrating on other features like improving battery lifespan
This forum is for discussion of news, tips, tricks, guides, howtos, etc related specifically to the Nexus 4. If you would like to post stuff like this, you need to do so in our Android General forums or on your own personal blog.

Hey all
I thought it may be an idea to create a thread to compare Samsung's two current flagship devices, the Note 4 and S5. While we usually see these two flagships announced at the same time, this year we have best part of a six month gap. For me the S-Pen is a must, which is why I've stuck with the note series since the original. But how much of a deal breaker is this for others?
Design
Next we have the exterior, its great to see Samsung finally embrace a metal finish. The note 3 had a metallic looking strip around the edge, while sure it looked good, the feel of it was always a disappointment. The note 4 fixes this by using the real deal around the exterior edge, giving much more of a premium feel. The S5 sticks with the same plastic fantastic approach, but is smaller and easier to handle due to its more rounded design. Although the use of metal gives the note 4 more of a high-end device look and feel, would anybody take the S5 due to its reduced size and weight?
Display
While we're on the subject of size, it brings us to the display. Both devices use the same SAMOLED technology, just the Note 4's being considerably larger. This is to be expected as they are aimed at different audiences. The Note 4’s 5.7-inch 2,560 x 1,440 pixel display gets you pixel density of 515ppi, compared to the S5's 5.1-inch 1080 x 1920 pixels screen bringing 432ppi. Anything over 350ppi will give a sharp display, and its still in debate if these massive resolutions are of any actual benefit to screens of this size. What would members thoughts be on this be?
Performace
So the nitty-gritty, which is faster? As we have different versions of both devices, we will stick to the Quad core versions as its the one we will see in the UK. Both use very similar Quad core chipsets, the Snapdragon 801 running at 2.5GHz in the S5 and a Snapdragon 805 at 2.7GHz in the Note 4, both are very snappy processors and will perform well, but its hardly a massive leap when we take the time period that's passed. The real difference is in GPU power, the Note 4 packs an Adreno 420 which is claimed to be around 40% faster than the S5's Adreno 330, of course the Note 4 has a lot more pixels to "push" so how this equates to real world performance is yet to be seen. On the face of it we have two very similar devices in way of performance, it may be down to if you like playing games etc. Looking forward to members thoughts on this:good:
Camera
Both devices come with 16 MP sensors, but we have a big difference, the S5 uses one made by Samsung featuring its ISOCELL technology, while the Note 4 uses a Sony IMX240 sensor. Quite why this has happened is a mystery, but we can only speculate that its down to production, possibly working on the S6's new camera?
While the Note 4's camera may be lagging somewhat behind the S5's due to the use of the more traditional camera technology, both are likely to perform well. One thing the S5 lacks is optical image stabilization, this should give the Note 4 an edge in low-light snaps. On the flip-side, the S5 has hybrid phase detection auto-focus, this is used in DSLR cameras and is quicker than the pure contrast detection auto-focus used in the Note 4.
Summary
Two high-end smartphones, both with their benefits. Please post why you would pick one over the other. Would the size and price of the Note 4 be a put-off and S5's reduced price but similar performance appeal?
This thread has been permitted by the moderation team, and is intend for sensible discussions comparing these two devices and their features. Any trolling or flaming will be reported to the moderation team and dealt with.
Are we sure the note 4's camera doesn't have phase detect AF as well?

Bug is because of fingerprint sensor. Disable it and reboot until fix

In that case will hold till cpu bug fix before buying.
After all for this price range it feels good.
I returned mine after a month of use. Wasn't happy at all with it.
This is why people rooted there phone it actually helps if you can control the CPU.
I almost bought the A2. After reading about the bugs in the A2 held off.
Get the Nokia 7.1 Plus instead, 4/64 price is just a bit more than the A2, but :
Android One
SD710
micro SD Card
3.5 mm audio
FM radio
Type-C
most of all ( I need a good camera) :
(dual) Sony IMX363 sensor, f/1.8 aperture, 1.4-micron pixels, dual-pixel autofocus
ZEISS optics
OIS
Camera 2 API Level 3 support (most prob)
Puredisplay, DCI-P3 wide color gamut ,500 nits brightness.
EDIT : 3500mAh
EDIT2 :

That looks nice, only question is the price. I got two A2 from Amazon at 202€ (4/64 black) and 194€ (4/64 gold), with Nokia I'm not sure I could remain under 400€ for two phones. My dad needs a new phone, if the 7.1 plus is at a reasonable price I'll get him that and say bye bye to Xiaomi.
