Have had my phone for about 4 months now. When I first got it flashed to work on PagePlus, I decided to try a custom ROM on it. Since it was flashed to work on the Verizon network, I figured a Verizon ROM would be the way to go. After the flash, the phone would not connect to the cell network anymore. I went back to the stock ROM and everything worked fine again. Since then, I've only tried Sprint based ROMs and haven't had any issues.
Just wondering if there is a reason why a Verizon ROM would not work in my case? Can't figure out if I did something wrong with the flash or if a Verizon ROM won't work since the phone was originally a Sprint version.
I didnt think it mattered, because Verizon has a white list... meaning even if you do get a verizon rom on there it still won't activate since the IEMI is not on verizons database.....
I'm not looking to activate the phone with Verizon, I'm already with PagePlus (which uses Verizon towers) and the phone works fine. My question was more about should I be able to flash a ROM geared for a Verizon phone? Seems like I should, but last time I tried that, something didn't work out right. I've been using Sprint based ROMs since then and the phone is working fine (with PagePlus as my carrier).

No, it won't be possible to flash a Verizon ROM since the mount points are different. Plus, I've already tried asking and the answer is no, sadly.
My son and I rooted his Verizon LG G2 with ioroot. FreeGee verified that the phone is rooted. We then tried to backup his efs's but got an error message saying that the it wasn't compatible with the software (even though it is supposed to work on his phone). This leaves us not knowing where to turn next. We can't do anything without backing up the imei first and then need software for the LTE.
This is all so new to us. Can someone tell us which direction to go from here? I know some people say they have T-Mobile LTE on their Verizon LG G2 phone but we just get 3G and were told we'd have to root it (done) and install Rom software to accomplish this. We need software to back up EFS"s (recovery software software) and then software like Paranoid Android for the rest. Trouble is Paranoid Android doesn't really support our phone.
Please help!
Information on his phone:
Verizon LG G2 4G
VS980
Hardware version: RVE 1.0
Android 4.4.2
Software Version: VS98-24A
TIA!!!

You should be able to back up your current rom with EFS via TWRP, is that what you're trying to do?
I think whether or not you get tmo lte on the vzw g2 would depend upon which band lte is available on in your location and if (at all) the vzw g2 supports that band. Its a hit and miss. This is a common issue for Most people using the vzw g2 (or any other vzw high end device with the unlocked gsm sim slot). You will be able to use 3g, but lte is erratic, and in most cases doesnt work.

Ugh, I am having so many issues with this at the moment. One of those things being that I am using T-mobile as my carrier. I'm stuck on 4.4 at the moment, and need to update it. But, will that relock the phone? How do I re-unlock it if that happens? I've already read that I can't flash the phone to T-mobile ROM, but are there any custom ROMs that you would recommend [I do actually use the S-pen, not sure if any have been updated to where that can still be used.] Lastly, is there any way to get mobile hotspot and tethering to work now that I am using tmobile?

I never tried this Rom.
T-Mobile Alliance Lollipop Rom on ATT Note 3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/t-mobile-alliance-rom-att-note-3-t3065127 I don't think you would have to worry about any of this as you are using T-Mobile " After the phone came up, I went to settings..general..applications...running .... and found every Tmobile app and cleared cache and disabled them. The real important one here is the Visual Voicemail. Otherwise it will keep on trying to contact Tmobile and then you will get text messages saying there is an error. Thanks @sapps
Wifi Calling is throwing a sim card error (as you would expect). Only problem is it is shown in status bar and lockscreen. I'm sure there is a way to hide it or disable it. I just haven't had a chance to figure it out."

But it's the N900A, so it's the AT&T version. Won't that brick the phone if I put the tmobile ROM on it? That's what I've read in other threads on here anyway. [Honestly I shouldn't write when I'm tired, or I would have explained this better.]. Basically, I bought an unlocked AT&T phone. A Note 3 to be exact. It's stuck on 4.4 but can upgrade to lolipop. Nothing I try will let me upgrade the normal way. I'm not sure how to upgrade it without relocking the SIM card somehow. Or is the simcard already semi-locked and that's why it's giving me the error? I also can't even find a AT&T specific rooting guide for this phone. I saw every other carrier except AT&T, does that even make a difference? And are there any ROMs that can return S-pen programs after I install them, or should I just stop at rooting if I want that? If so, I just really want to upgrade to lollipop and root the phone. I would like my mobile hotspot and wifi calling to work, but I suppose I can make do with hangouts.

It won't brick you phone. It's a T-Mobile Rom that's been ported for AT&T Note 3. After you flash the Rom, you have to Odin the N900A_OC1_ALL_Other_Stock_Partitions.tar.md5 using Odin's PDA slot. As far as rooting what you have now, just use Towel root https://towelroot.com/ (install on phone like any other app) and click "make it rain". Install Supersu, busybox and Safestrap. OR use Kingo Root http://www.kingoapp.com/ (Kingo Root will install supersu for you). The reason it won't upgrade to Lollipop is you have a T-Mobile sim card in it. It needs a AT&T sim card (I have AT&T and can't upgrade mine unless the sim card is in the phone). If you just want a rooted Lollipop Rom, but it's AT&T http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59666958&postcount=2 You know since you're on T-Mobile you have to go into settings>more networks>mobile networks>access point names and change it to T-Mobile's APN. I would just root it and put the T-Mobile Alliance Lollipop Rom on ATT Note 3 on it. I gave it a try yesterday and it does have T-Mobile apps on it, just not for me. Just remember to change the APN to T-Mobile's ( just write down the one you using now).
I've recently made the switch from Verizon to T-Mobile and I've kept my Verizon Note 4. The phone is working okay. Voice, Data, text all working. I have the Developer Edition Note 4 and it is rooted. I would like to try out some of the T-Mobile ROMs on my phone and I am uncertain if I can. I tried to load a couple of ROMs from XDA and they booted okay but, I was never able to get it to connect to T-Mobile. I assume it is because of my baseband/bootloader/modem? I tried to ODIN the COD6 baseband and bootloader and it failed. Luckily for me I guess it never wrote anything to the phone and it booted up to the old one just fine. This is where my knowledge gets a little hazy...
Thanks, JS
From what I have read in the ROM forums it appears that you can get around the Boost Mobile network lock by unlocking the bootloader and installing a Lineage based ROM. Can someone confirm this and does anyone know if you can get LTE support of AT&T and T-Mobile this way? Best Buy has them for 79 bucks right now and for that price it sounds like a cheap way of getting very usable backup phone/something to give to the 4th grader to have when she goes over to a friends house. Thanks.
Hey, did you ever get a confirmation on this? Im literally in the same boat, would like to find out!
I didnt read too much and I may be totally wrong, but a quick search told me that I would need to have a working LTE connection on Boost before attempting this, otherwise LTE would not work. If I have to buy a boost card, activate it, then go through all this, I might as well buy the unlocked version for a few bucks more..?
Thanks
Yes, I can confirm. Installing the latest unofficial LineageOS 14.1 on my XT1776 allowed it to finally recognize my Cricket (AT&T Wireless) SIM card. The OEM retail firmware, however, did not work.
Would you be able to link to the threads to install LineageOS? Did you need to activate on Boost before installing the LineageOS?

Just to give an update I bought one at Target with a best buy price match (I had some Target gift cards). Up and running with a T Mobile sim and Resurrection Remix in less than 45 minutes including download everything and installation minimal ADB and Motorola drivers. Coming from an LG G5 I am impressed at what 79 dollars buys. I was interested in an Honor 7x but is hard to justify the extra 125 bucks. Thanks to everyone for the great guides and help. The hardest part was figuring out how to eject the Boost mobile sim card.

Did you have to bootloader unlock and root first to do it? I just ordered a phone from BestBuy. I remember for the Moto E4 Verizon phones that you had remove the prepaid sim before you even power the phone on otherwise it gets locked to Verizon for 6 months. Any gotchas here?
BTW, anyone who want a stock rom, this might help? https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75968092&postcount=14

I'm not sure I ejected my sim before turning it on just to be safe.
Does anyone know if this phone once unlocked and LINEAGEOS is installed will work on Verizon?
I would think that it would be fine. It's no different than what I did except it's fir a different network. Mine works with t-Mobile and at&t sims. Haven't tried a Verizon one.

Verizon is CDMA, but I guess it should work since I think Sprint uses their network, too.
So just to confirm, do we have to activate Boost SIM and provision LTE first before unlocking bootloader and flashing LineageOS? The Lineage thread says LTE won't work if we don't provision LTE first before flashing.
I'm on T-Mobile currently and might switch to Cricket in the near future. Thanks.

I took the Boost Mobile SIM out and inserted my T-Mobile SIM before I even powered on the phone for the first time. Notification was there that showed it was invalid (as expected). I connected to my wifi and updated the OS to the latest one. I unlocked the bootloader in the OS setting and by getting the code from Motorolla. Installed TRWP, backed up the stock OS, wiped and installed LineageOS. SIM card worked on T-Mobile immediately and got LTE. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
EDIT: I'm working on another phone and I noticed after it's booted up and I'm past the new install setup steps that it looks like it's connecting to the Sprint network and provisioning even without the Boost SIM card installed. I connected the phone to my wifi during the initial setup so I can update the stock formware before unlocking. I have no idea if that matters. I'm guessing the Linage thread is correct. I suppose it would be bad to boot to fastboot first, unlock, flash recovery and flash lineage without ever first booting the phone up with the stock firmware.

Thank you for the quick reply. Although, I decided to jump in and got the Moto E4 Boost Mobile version for $50 and went through the same process
Mobile network not available
I have tried multiple compatible sims from Straight Talk (T-Mobile, Verizon, At&t) and At&t. I get Mobile network not available. Running 14.1-20171017-UNOFFICIAL-perry

Maybe you have to manually add the APN settings for Straight Talk? https://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/help/apn
Nope didn't work for me. I had to pay to get it unlocked
