This is not a rant or a moan or whatever you want to call it. This is just clearing a few things up after the last few days what i have been reading on the forum.
Firstly support for N4 will still be there after this update, and i am sure we have at least one more major update to come for our beloved device. People saying that our phone will be next are just talking rubbish. People all over the forum are crying thinking that our device will be next. Until a confirmation from Google can people please stop with the conspiracy theories.
Also regarding with the launcher. Now i am not that really bothered if it gets released or not as i do not use Google Now. But again were is the official confirmation that the launcher will not be included for our device? There is none. Just tech sites writing there stuff as usual and every one is lapping it up and making a fuss.
I love my phone and i do not see a reason why i should upgrade to the Nexus 5. I do not want though people in the forum to start moaning about things that are not official yet from the God itself which is Google. Yes they are not perfect but until the actual release gets to our device and we have things missing then fine all hell can break lose.
Oh and one last thing. Yes am gutted that we not got the update soon as the release came out but we are still the first to get it were other mega devices are not getting it at least December or Xmas the earliest..So am still thankful for the Nexus line. But that will start not meaning anything soon anyway if they carry this new strategy of there to put money first before anything else.
But till then please take a chill pill people.
This will get shut down and deleted am sure but i just wanted people to read this and seriously take it easy till there is ACTUAL CONFIRMATION by GOOGLE THEMSELVES..
Mods sorry if this should not be here but sometimes a man has enough when reading through the forums and having whiny kids whine all the time.
And to add...We are XDA...If things go missing and are not included in the build that our beloved N4 should get then people trust our great and respectful Developers here who are if you do not mind me saying better than those at Google..We will have those features that the N5 has and if not should be better build than stock...So please show your support for our devs and less whining and help this place for newbies instead of moaning all the time about something that has not been confirmed yet
:highfive: for you!
This is exactly my opinion on the subject.
If you are on XDA, odds are that you know how to mod your phone, and believe me, everything that will not come with the official OTA will be made avaliable soon here on XDA.
Right, you might need root, you can argue you do not want to root but then what is the point of your anger if you do not want to take action to get something you want?
Just wait for Google to release the OTA and everything will be clear!
Should be soon I guess

exactly my friend. until something has been confirmed i do not understand why people are panicking. and by the next update which will be by summer time our phone should be more than capable to handle it and i am sure we are in for that to. phones should have a support from the OS development team ie Google at least maximum two years...so why are people are stressed is beyond me.
Now as the Galaxy Nexus that is a strange one and Google should state the reasons why they are not supporting it but again that is nothing to do with me or concerns me..But for people to start saying that the N4 is next is beyond silly to say

Sure there is confirmation. It is not included in the Nexus 7 WiFi KitKat update. And Google confirmed it with The Verge and said it is possible they will bring it to other devices other than the N5 someday but not initially.
Great post OP.. You know what I think it is? Purely my opinion after mulling over how absolutely weird the 4.4 rollout and release has been.
Ever been in a corporate environment where someone important is replaced? It's hell.. JBQ left and was replaced.. So here you have a new guy who is pulling the old corporate "I'm new and have to flex my superiority and change things to make it look like I'm doing something different and being productive" (ie: Fishing for his next promotion).. This happens in nearly every business.. It's hilarious to watch happen in real life because most employees know it's coming.. 3 months later after everyone hates the new guy and his useless changes everything goes right back to the way it was. I'm certain all the rumblings this is causing is being heard..

Please enlighten me, what's the difference between your thread and the one that got closed. You've already labeled all that don't share your point of view by "whiners" (btw weren't you the one that also happened to "whine" at the beginning? ) so what do you expect? It's obvious that any sort of discussion won't be possible here. Your thread will sooner or later became exactly the same place of mindless arguments and eventually closed.
But you're right. If am not interested to participate so I am done. Good luck though, I am sure you're get many "thanks".

It has to do with the Ti core not being supported anymore. Also, not being supported by Ti did not meant it doesn't work for Galaxy Nexus, just means Google would not support a device without former support to its hardware.
Anyways, Galaxy Nexus got 4.4 already, go Install it

To be honest the reason why i opened this thread is to get my opinion about the many things that i have read on the forum. Many false information that is going around by others is beyond ridiculous because they listen to tech sites most of them without any proper confirmation by Google itself...Now as to regarding the updates that are coming for our device if there is an official changelog by Google to say what are the changes from the older nexus devices compare to the N5 then i will eat my hat if it is out already stating what we are getting and missing out on..
But again people forget that XDA is here to help..Hence why we should not be ranting and raving
What am trying to say is that i want this thread to stick to a proper adult discussion about our device regarding the build that we should get..And i do not want people to give mis-information till we get it from the Big Boss itself

I can understand your point here OP but, the purpose of forums such as this one is to allow for open discussion on a topic. I see no issue with speculation or assumption as long as people keep their heads. That is, after all, what makes things interesting and keeps people intrigued. If we went purely on the facts at hand 100% of the time, discussions would end fairly quickly and most forums would be desolate places.

Update: There’s a possibility that Google is stopping the production of only the 32GB version of Nexus 5, as the XDA user above was asking for a replacement of 32GB Nexus 5. We will be contacting LG/Google for clarification and will update this article accordingly.

End of production was to be expected from my point of view.
But "delayed" update was a quiet a surprise because I was expecting at the end of November.
I'm quiet happy that they will release OTA on 12th, that means the image will be up few days sooner.

Nah it will not end.
http://www.google.com/nexus/5/
The site says it all.
Yea... Wouldn't make sense to discontinue it, and take the effort to redo the Nexus 5 page showing it running Lollipop.
Come on guys, you know how it is. This is rumor season. A bunch of people just randomly show up to the forum to post something they probably saw on G+ or something. Take 99.99% of all of this stuff with a grain of salt. As for the N5, I'll believe it's discontinued when you can't buy it on the Play Store from a link that says get your NEW Nexus 5 here...
So, you're pointing to a blog that in turns points back to lively thread here in our very own forums... Needless to say the original XDA thread does a fine job of repudiating the idea that the N5 has been terminated -- for all the reasons noted in the above posts. Circular posts like this just feed the rumour mill and before long we all end up authoritatively on IBTimes!
Though the N5 portion of this thread seems redundant in light of the XDA source thread I'll add a further 2¢: The original complaint seems to be someone trying to RMA their device (specifics are lacking), If that's the case he/she would only be offered a refurbished unit as per Google policy. That wouldn't explain the explain the wording of the feedback from Google Play, but in that case I'd suggest it's little more than miscommunication. In fact, the wording of the Play email is rather unlike anything I've ever had back from Google/Play support.
Said thread / rumour began here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/nexus-5-wont-produced-anymore-t2921263/page2
EDIT: *sigh* Even the postponement item is a report on a rumour from another site. "Android Police claims to have learned that the over-the-air (OTA) update for Android 5.0 Lollipop has been postponed to until..." While AP is a very credible source (and this report has been thoroughly covered in the appropriate forum here already), linking to a repeat of a report is fairly useless unless the fresh take offers an actual fresh take with, ya know, with new details or insights.
What happened to official statements? Are they valid nowadays? Because Google hasn't officially declared anything regarding this... So why discuss it further?

Yep, this trend makes it appear as if there is a lot less content too. Plus like you mention I'm not reading 100 pages in a thread with a title I have no interest in.
Much easier to have more specific topics with several pages than broad topics with hundreds of pages where who knows what page the info I'm looking for might be on.

Well, if you had read the blog post that you cited regarding end of production you'd have seen that it was referring to (and linked to!) an XDA N6 thread. If, having realized this, you still felt there was a clear need to (re)post it here you could have - at least - linked directly to the original XDA thread.

I will point out that the 32GB is out of stock on the Nexus 5 minisite, but that just means out of stock, which means no backorderable stock, which could mean waiting on new manufacture. I actually believe that Google understands, as do I, that this phone is still very cutting edge; and at this price point, most certainly the best buy for the dollar on the market. I have the opportunity to get any new phone now with a company paid monthly bill on AT&T or Verizon. You know what? I'm gonna keep my N5 on Straight Talk. Call me a dummy but I can't find a phone I like more with the features I've grown attached to (wireless charging ftw), a brilliant high dpi screen, and a form factor that fits just right (any larger and I can't one-hand it on the subway while keeping my other hand on the railing). What really makes a phone feel new is a radically upgraded OS, and that's what I have now with my no-questions-asked free replacement refurb on Android 5.0. Thanks Google!
@KJ is right, plenty of threads to discuss this.
Thread closed.
So since no one seems to be ranting or asking the question about this, then I guess I will. And here's why. I read earlier this past week that LG would be pushing the update for their G3. I figure with that news out there and the idea of tweaking it to work on the G2, that there would be at least a beta out there? I've looked everywhere and I haven't found anything. I'm not sure how hard an LG is to port versus an HTC but I know that there are ports from the One m7, One m8, and One Max that work on the DNA. Anyways, I'm not trying to *****. I'm just curious as to why there isn't anything out yet? I'm ready to test drive the new 5.0 and I don't really like the nexus devices, nor do I have the money to go buy one out right. I'm just really wondering if anyone is even working on this or waiting for it to hit and then will start working on it??
1. I don't think you're allowed to post questions in development forum, ROMs only.
2. The G3 update is not as easy to port as you think as we're missing a kernel. The problem is even more complicated with the Verizon model because we don't have a CDMA Nexus model to base it on. Porting to GSM model can use some help from the existing Nexus 5 kernel. That's what I think.
Well.. I believe that someone(s) is working on a port for the G2. I'm sure that since they're doing it for free and in their spare time, they will release one when they have a "Good, Safe to Flash" version. Since I'm not a developer of any sort and just a very grateful user of their work.. I will continue to wait patiently until they see fit to release it. If I get tired of waiting then I will probably learn how to make one myself. That way I can have it when I want it.
@CoyotesFan4Evr
First and foremost, this is in the wrong section, as stated before. This is not a Q&A forums (see sticky) and at 100 posts, you should know this.
Tim from ose and reven from liquid smooth along with eight other people, two being members working on cm are building cm12 for us.
Twice now it has been leaked, resulting in two broken builds, and doing nothing more then pissing off the guys working on it. It will come when they have it stable.
What? There is no lollipop port for the dna.
Please note the sticky at the top of the Dev forum going forward...
Sticky: ★ ☆ ✰ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting do not go in the Development Section. ✰ ☆ ★
You know I get that everyone isn't trying to be rude about my posting in the wrong section but I'm sorry it came across rude. Yes I have 100 posts or more. However I didn't read the sticky at all because in my opinion of I or someone else should have a root question there isn't a real section for it that is easily noticed called Root: ask your questions here. So I'm personally going to go to the section labeled development and for my carrier and ask those questions. Maybe my brain is wired wrong in the way but to me it seems like common sense. Anyways, I'm done with my polite rant. I appreciate the responses for the information they gave me. I'll just sit back and wait I suppose. I could always play with stuff on my DNA.
@CoyotesFan4Evr
Yeah, I dunno. There's a general Q&A and a Verizon specific Q&A and you're asking a question, so I don't know why it doesn't click.
The reason why you don't ask questions here, is because it would bog the entire forum down with questions versus Roms, and this place is for roms.
I get why I shouldn't have asked my question here. That part clicks just fine mostly anyways. Where it run up on the issue is that it says general questions. I'm a member on another forum and you don't ask general questions about a rooted phone in a section like that. There is a section called all things root for that type of question asking. So I hope the logic of why I asked on this part of the forum makes sense. But for the future I won't post in the wrong section anymore.
Honestly dude just be patient. Some of the Nexus devices are only just now getting the update, and it's going to be a little while longer before we see anything. CM12 is being worked on and we'll get a G3 port a little while after Lollipop hits the G3. I'm foaming at the mouth for L just as much as anyone else, but these things take time.
If you really want to try it out, there's an early CM12 build in the regular Android development forum. It runs but has some bugs on all versions. It's really nice outside of that.
How do I enable WiFi?
Haha, just ****tin' you.
Have a question but don't wanna ask it publicly? You're in luck. I do answer technical questions via PM!
One phrase I see a lot of, in one way or another, is "I don't answer technical questions through PMs". That could be for a multitude of reasons, I suppose. A user may have trouble keeping track of who is who, have a full inbox, or prefer to help publicly for the thanks and such that come from it. Regardless of why, this can put a lot of us in uncomfortable situations at times, knowing precisely who we want to ask what but having no way to do so privately. It can be really discouraging to go from helping ~15 people in a row with their issues, some complex, to not knowing where to even start on an elementary issue on your own device. Today I am hoping to put an end to that, at least for users of the Nexus 6. This thread seeks to offer assistance in a new way - I DO offer technical support via PM. I also bet some other users do too, and they are more than welcome to join in helping so long as spreading correct and helpful information remains the central goal. I welcome any user to offer support to another, just please do indicate the issue is resolved as to avoid multiple PMs from multiple accounts. If a user (or multiple) is interested in really becoming a part of this,I am not at all opposed to that either. I have no interest in doing this alone or anything like that - the more of us here helping people, the more actualized my vision for this thread has become. I will never compromise quality of answers for quota - if I am not totally sure, I either will not offer you suggestion until I am, or I'll preface it with a very clear indication of the fact that I am uncertain.
PMs aren't to be used here to walk througgh configuring someone's device, decrypting their phone or recovering from a brick, where one person's oversight could really mess things up. Directing these users to where to get said information from the guides provided and answering any subsequent questions they may have after reading said guides - that's what I am about. However, I would like for users who feel genuinely stupid or simply shy asking a certain question to have a place to ask it without feeling judged. I'd like to point you to the right place to ask your question and not second guess if it's in the right forumor thread or tagging the right dev. If your question is of a simpler nature and I am able to just answer it for you and provide helpful links/references if possible, I will. If you have a log but don't know who to submit it to, I'd like to help you figure that out. From new members who are shy to RCs who are just stuck on stupid for the moment, this thread is open to you all.
We can do this anyway you wish. For starters, my inbox is open to anyone. Please do let me know you are coming from here, as I receive a good deal of technical questions via PM as is. Or, if you prefer, simply post in here asking for a PM. I will check this thread quite regularly. If users find use for this, provisions may be made for a more organized system in the future, To all those with questions, don't be shy, now is your chance. To those of you who wish to get involved, again, don't be shy. Feel free to jump right in and start helping or to contact me, whichever is preferable. I hope to start a good thing here for the community that I have never seen done before, as this is what this is all about - the XDA community. Thanks for reading - I hope to hear from you guys!
Very nice offer of you.
I'll explain my reason for not answering PMs..well, several actually.
1) I spend all my time responding to PMs. I don't get to enjoy the forum
2) The PM relies on me only for support, when there may be better people to help
3) Questions asked in open forum benefit other members too

Oh yes, I definitely appreciate that it's not something members do to be less than helpful or anything like that, especially due to #3. I would definitely rather answer a question in an open forum so others can see it than through PM. My whole reasoning for making this thread is that I think some questions will go unasked if users don't have a place they are comfortable asking them - I myself have had questions but just simply not known where to ask, and by not asking, I learned nothing. So for those cases, niche issues, etc., I am hoping that people who normally would just deal with their issue and silently be unhappy about it, or hop from ROM to ROM or kernel to kernel trying to fix something that's really a GPS issue or something, those people can hopefully find what they have been looking for - or at least a pointer in the right direction to get there. I definitely appreciate that the open forum is the best way to handle most issues most of the time - as I have yet to see this type of thread for our device, though, I'm hoping to serve the needs of the few as the masses are already being served elsewhere. I appreciate you shining some light from the perspective of someone who gets a lot of technical questions aimed at you and does not answer them via PM - definitely a good jumping off point for users to see what this thread is not for, i.e. issues that are likely gonna help other users too.
I'll answer a few hundred questions via pm, yearly. but I would rather answer them in the public forums, for everyone to see. first off, you end up helping out more people if its answered publicly. plus, if you do answer with something that's wrong, someone will come by to correct you. that way the person gets the right answer, and you will as well. I know I'm not 100% right all the time, I'm not perfect, I'm just a human being, but I still try

I just had to turn off PMs all together. There are a few sticky threads in a few device forums by me, so people pm me to help fix a problem on a device i haven't even owned for years. I can't remember that far back.
Reading that Google is working on 7.1.2 I'm wondering if it will be also for Shamu. What's your prognosis?
https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2017/01/get-sneak-peek-at-android-nougat-712.html
Only way to get 7.1.2 will be via custom ROMS, funny enough they are still updating that rubbish Nexus Player, which is the same age as the N6 and 9.
I'm sure they will release a 7.1.2 for N6 to officially fix the speakerphone bug
It will come when the final is released.
Actually...
http://www.droid-life.com/2017/01/3...7-1-2-update-will-still-see-security-patches/
Actually, nobody needs anymore fix this and break that from #Google. I would wait for PN or whatever rom here in XDA.
When logging in to their beta portal my Nexus 6 is no longer enrolled for Beta so it's looking a tad bleak.
I do hope we get an official fix for the speakerphone bug one way or another though.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...d-nexus-9-no-7-1-2-updates-seemingly-planned/
i Believe in lineageos only , they still support nexus 4 with 7.1.1 so dont worry our n6 will be supported by them
I'm so depressed by this news that I decided not to wait for Google to fix the speakerphone problem and installed Yoinx's fix (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70663169&postcount=81 - thanks, @Oxicottin). I'm astonished that Google would leave the N6 in a broken state, but maybe that's just life...
So going forward I'll be relying on our excellent developers, and I too am looking at LineageOS as well as Pure, Nitrogen, etc.
I want to tread carefully here, because I mean no disrespect to anyone, but my only concern is the number of comments I've seen about Cyanogenmod and its bugs (I have not tried it on my N6, so I have no personal knowledge). Given that LineageOS is the descendant of CM, is that concern valid?
And perhaps this is a good place to ask for feedback on which ROM is best-placed for my purpose and for anyone else interested in long-term maintenance of their device? I don't need bells and whistles, just a ROM where every standard function works.
I know from my long reading experience in XDA that the temptation will be to say "Try them all and see", but it makes more sense to me to ask for opinions from people who have already done that - given that I'm not looking for the all-singing all-dancing perfect ROM, just stable functionality.

I haven't tried LineageOS yet, but Cyanogenmod has always been rock solid for me.
For what you're asking "every standard function works", all of the Custom ROMs you quoted will work.
I used Pure Nexus for quite a while and I loved it! It's based on the latest branch from Google (r13), and have lots of tweaks to look like a Pixel. You should try it
@dahawthorne: The speakerphone fix will be in the security updates. That said, we all will need to rely on custom ROMs from this point on if we want new features.
I've used Pure Nexus from day 1 with few complaints.
Sigh this world is filled with idiots...
The beta versions are only available for the latest devices, guess what? Nexus 6 is not something you can call latest. Afterwards it will be released to all devices.
Same has happened with the 7.1 beta.
It annoys me to read apocalypse stories everytime this happens and nobody is sane enough to logically think back to the last time this happened.
@seahorsepip
I don't get your point. Am I the idiot, or is this disrespectful comment intended to insult everyone?
Where exactly do you source the comment "Afterwards it will be released to all devices" given that there are at least two posted references in this thread stating the opposite?
And your tolerance level seems to be very low. Perhaps you should try yoga?

I have a good feeling for that too, I would say (based on anything) that the speakerphone issue will be addressed in the 7.1.1 February security patch.

Guess it's time to switch from PureNexus to something else.
People shouldnt be surprised. We all knew this was gonna happen years ago when we bought the device. But to be honest, this is XDA. Who cares about official.

I think it was directed at everyone, and its genesis is a reading comprehension failure on @seahorsepip's part.
I'm sure he'll have a stinging rebuke at the ready, but no amount of insults will change the facts here. This device is not getting Android 7.1.2 from Google. Custom ROMs will be the only way to upgrade from this point on.
I'm prepared for the future. Is anyone else?

Willing to bet we get 7.1.2 when it's out of beta.
This is exactly the same story as with 7.1, everyone and every news site was saying it was the n6 EOL just because it wasn't part of the beta, while the beta clearly states "latest devices only".
Reading comprehension failure, seriously? Besides the absurd choice and combination of words in that sentence it's not a matter of reading, it's a matter of sources. Currently not a single article has a definitive source that states it's the nexus 6 EOL. All articles just assume its the nexus 6 EOL because it's a nice clickbait article just like it was back with the previous betas.
@seahorsepip: Droid Life confirmed it with Google in a follow-up to the initial announcement on their site. Now, if that isn't satisfactory, and given how hostile your first post on this thread is it probably won't be, send a message to Google and ask them yourself. In the meantime, I'll be doing something more meaningful than having a battle of wits with an unarmed person.
