[Q] Strange behaviour - Verizon LG G2

So the top of my screen is dead, the usual spot to die on these things, but now im getting the broken screen error forcing me to use the buttons. Ive read this is a software or hardware issue, but i flashed multirom and bliss but the issue still exists in bliss. im on 24a, if i flash 26a bootstack will it screw up my 24a, also is there anyway to fix my screen, tried the firmware update in the hidden menu, tried other kernals, any ideas?

halp pls

If you have the dead spot, nothing you can do. Warranty that bad boy if you can!

alright, i have a month left on my lg warrenty, they cover the dead spot correct? its in the same spot as everyone else with the issue, top part of the screen

From what I've read from others that had the problem, yes, it's covered. Just make sure and tot or kdz back to stock before you send it in. You might get a refurb, but that is a guess. I sent mine in for an unrelated issue and got back a brand new one.

Center part of Screen Unresponsive

I was flashing a rom
Left RomManager on my phone a bit longer than normal, because i had to do some errands.
The battery was near to dying but i flashed CM7 nightly anyway
The battery didnt die in the flashing process but said 5% at the first launch
I plugged it into the charger and configured it.
I was on the 3rd or so screen when i noticed something strange, i couldnt click on certian parts of the screen.
I had to open the keyboard and use the D-Pad to push the next button.
Once i was on the stock adw launcher when my phone started acting bizarre.
It would move things around and open apps by its self.
Curious to see the pattern involved, i managed to get DevTools open and opened the "Pointer Location" section. It looked like the pointers where stuck on the middle of my screen.
I locked my Phone then unlocked it and it stopped. I noticed i was completely unable to select any center part of the screen
doing so would result on selecting the closest available pixel
I gathered some data by miving my finger in a single motion back and forth from top to bottom and these where the results [see pics]
Does anyone know how to fix this
also, i tried flashing different roms with no luch
Ive got the same issue with the left 3rd of my screen! any ideas on this? did you get it fixed somehow?

Try sbf back to stock, if it's still broken I'd try to get a new phone, I had a droid do this and the whole screen would only respond for the first minute when you turned it on, got it replaced for free because I was still under warranty

Droid 3 screen stays black .

So the phone (XT860 Bell) has problems when I unlock it the screen stays black. The phone works though cause when someone calls I can still pick up as I know somewhat where the green button is. But for the rest I can't do anything.
The only way to get the phone back is to remove the battery and restart the phone. Then it works again.
Anyone else had this problem?
have you tried hard resetting it?
No will do so. But before doing that I thought maybe there is some simple solution.
After the update to 2.3.6 things went all a bit wrong I think.
If you got this after the update, I am quite confident data wipe will solve your problem. You can try wiping cache only first - this way you won't lose your configuration and might solve the problem. The update supposedly wipes cache, but maybe that didn't work properly while you were updating. Enter stock recovery and give it a try.
Hey thanks for the help. But just did a reset. Not sure what went wrong when I did the update. Did wipe. Annnnyways. Right now it's stable. Let's see if it stays like this.
Ok sadly the reset didn't fix it. It took a whole day to go black again but still happened.
Any other solutions? I am scared that it's a hardware failure...but let's hope not cause I am in Holland.
I have the droid 3 and the same exact thing is happening to me. Sorry to tell you this but it has to deal wit the connector between the keyboard and screen. I've taken mine to get checked by a "phone doctor" and they told me that. I will tell you this now ,since it is still in the early stages, it's going to get worse to the point that it will stay black. Get it fixed by a techy or get a replacement soon. Mine reached it's point today and I am going to need to get it fixed. Hope it helps.

Doesn't sound good man :-(......
Though it happened a lot the passed days since the reset ( knock on wood) only once. Do wonder why it happens less now.
Yea you can reset all you want it's going to go blank. I had to right the dial pad numbers with marker on the screen just to make calls. I say get it fixed or replaced soon
I've got the same issue here. I know the thread is old, but I'm from the Netherlands (just like eezdva) and would like to know how to repair this.

If you can't take it back and want to try to fix it yourself you need to search for a droid 3 flex cable. The one you want has the front facing camera, front sensors and earpiece speaker on it. Then head on over to ifixit for a teardown guide (sorry no repair manual yet, I plan on working on one).
I have to add that taking this phone apart to replace this part is no small feat, and it would probably be better finding a phone doctor to do it for you, or just getting a new phone.
When you buy the part, request an OEM part, I have been sent cables where the front facing camera displays sideways, or doesn't work at all. Most also don't come with the front button deflector, and that has to be transferred from the old cable.
Hope this helps
Ok . Well I don't really know what the problem is. But it went away. Actually it started I think after applying the update . I got myself another external sdcard . At a certain moment I decided to remove it and things cooled down. It now actually never happens anymore.
Well I gues you're lucky!
My screen sometimes starts all scrambled and the phone doesn't power on. Sliding the screen a couple of time sometimes helpes, but most of the time I don't really know howto get the phone working again. I think it's more stable when I leave the phone 'slided out' (don't know the right word now).
And I searched Motorolas website and found 2 reparing companies in the Netherlands. They both are authorized by Motorola, as of such I think this repair will be in warranty.
I do have to send it for repair. I don't want to take it apart because of what bitz_dv said. I'll let you know!
No Fix
When I was gone on a short holiday my college got a call from the 'authorized' motorola repair center. They can't fix my phone. I need to pay 11 euro to get it back and that's it. I tried calling them but there was no answer.
I sended my phone in on 22 may 2012 and now they decided they can't repair it. I spoke to Ted from Negri Electronics who told me to get in touch with Motorola as my warranty is still valid.
I'm a little confused, where should I go if an official repair center can't fix my phone but do tell me the repair is within warranty..
What can I do? Besides ordering the parts and take the phone apart myself..
I started my search for the flex cable... I did repair a N97 once, within the warranty period and later on sended it in and they repaired it under warranty....
Is this the cable I'm searching for:
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Motorola-Droid-3-XT862-Motherboard-Flex-Ribbon-p/mot1040660.htm
I am from Netherlands, and have the same problem with the screen, looks like many users from Netherlands do.. coincidence?
When i jst slide out the keyboard , a little bit is enough, and the screen goes black ( black screen of death ) it doesnt power on with power button.
I looked for a flex cable at ebay, and it surprised me , that cable is also doing the front camera, and speaker... My front camera wasnt working too, and speaker made strange sounds many times, so it could be that cable, but not sure.
Check my thread, i have also uploaded a video to make it more clear

[Q] Water damaged thrill, any hope?

I bought a thrill off of ebay, that was stated as being bricked and that it wouldn't boot. I've fixed a bricked g2x so I thought I would likely be able to fix it.
Problem is, the seller didn't tell me that all the water damage sensors were activated. The phone's screen will turn on when you plug it in, and show the lg logo then the charging screen, but nothing happens at all when you try pressing the power button. I tried an alternate battery on it just to rule out the battery.
I was going to try stock recovery, but after seeing the water damage sensors being deep red I realized it will possibly do nothing.
I'm familiar with flashing the baseband of thrill so I flashed the baseband to stock thrill p925, and it acted just like a working thrill would, which I thought was hopeful.
Does anyone have any reccomendations to try to see if this phone has any hope? Anything else I should try? Would you reccomend trying to flash back to stock to see if that does anything? Thanks!!
If its water damage try putting it in the freezer without the battery in. For like 15-20 min take out try to boot. If no go Try again for 5-10. Dont listen to over zelous hardware guys i've fixed THREE phones with this method. One was sitting in a friends drawer for a month and presto. Sounds crazy but all else might have failed. Good luck.
Sent from my LG-P925g using XDA App
no luck
no luck with the freezer trick, tried it for 20 minutes, then another 10.
The seller has agreed to accept a return, which I'm going to do.
I couldn't even find any guides to reflash stock firmware without the phone already being rooted. It was so easy when I bought a g2x bricked (stuck on s/w upgrade screen).
Thanks for the tip, I'll keep it in mind if I ever have water damaged phones in the future (actually going to try it on another phone right now, crossing my fingers).
use the kdz method in the developers form

LG G4 will no longer boot

I've had my G4 for over a year now, and it's been great, especially with Android 7.1.1.
Today I was using Messenger to type a message to my wife when it hard locked, and then rebooted. It then got stuck at the LG logo and I had to remove the battery for it turn off.
I put the battery back in, got to the lock screen, but again hard locked and rebooted, and got stuck at the LG logo.
Thinking I had a bad flash, I booted into TWRP and tried to reflash. TWRP locked before the flash began, rebooted, and got stuck at the LG logo.
At this point, I can't even get into TWRP now. It's been degrading very quickly.
Is there anything to do at this point? I heard that LG had a recall about a bootloop defect due to a hardware issue. Would this qualify?
I realize in my tired haze I posted this in the wrong forum. Could an admin move this to the correct place? Thanks!

use LGUP and a KDZ file remeber that upgrading to a certain version theres antirollback wich means once you in a specific version you can not downgrade. i would recommedn to download the latest 20q kdz flash it with LGUP with refurbished option,. if it bootloops then yes you have a bootloop problem take it to t mobile or LG.
looks like all g4 will get bootloop sooner or later, too bad, it is a great phone

My phone is a couple of weeks out of a year for the manufacturer warranty I'm sure. Will LG take it back if I can prove it's part of the hardware issue others have had?
Looks like it died completely. How would I go about talking to LG so that they can take it back to fix since they won't publicly admit to the defect? Would I need to talk to T-Mobile first?
Edit: oops, missed the "dead" part. Will it not turn on at all? What about holding Vol Up + Power?
Try T-Mobile first, but they will almost certainly refer you to LG anyway. But don't give up hope - my G4 was 3 weeks out of warranty and LG repaired it at no cost. They even paid for shipping.
As raptorddd said, you will want to reflash to stock to ensure it's not a software problem. There are guides here on XDA, but it's way past my bedtime so I'm having trouble remembering which one I used. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out tho'. I can tell you that the KDZ I used was packaged as a .zip named "H811V20q_00_1123.zip" with an SHA1 hash of 6a0a2b87e90aab590f6f83cd8e740f048215713f.
BTW you didn't mention whether you had a backup of your data. That's a whole other problem, and not easily solved. You'll also need a backup phone because this will take a couple weeks.

I don't get anything, even when I take out the battery and plug in the USB cable it doesn't give me the battery with the question mark in it, which you would think I should at least get that.

Do I just need to contact LG support then? Is there any way to mention the hardware issue or do I just describe what happened? Would be great if they accepted it. Do you know if they fix the phone itself or do they just send you a refurbished one?

I had just flashed LineageOS 14.1 when the lockup happened, so I thought it was a bad flash and wiped /system before it started getting worse. I managed to get it to flash though with the freezer method that was talked about, but if I can even get it to boot to do a quick backup it would be a miracle. The only things I'm really losing is my call log and text messages, so not a huge loss thankfully.
In my case, they replaced the main board. (I think they also scratched the screen, but I can't prove it. You may want to apply a screen protector before mailing it.)

Looks like I can get a response from the phone as long as I keep it frozen. Hopefully I can get it going long enough to get my data off once I can get the battery charged back up. I couldn't even get it to charge unless it was cold.
If it works when the phone is cold, then it's definitely the hardware failure reboot issue. It's caused by heat, over time, eventually weakening the solder connections between the CPU/GPU and the motherboard. When it's cold, the solder joints are connected. When it heats up, the CPU/solder/motherboard expand and the connections are broken. If keeping the phone in the refrigerator or freezer is not keeping the phone alive long enough to back up all your data, you can try opening up the phone and inserting something like a piece of cardboard between the CPU and the back of the phone. After closing up the phone, the cardboard will apply pressure to the CPU to keep the solder joints in contact with the motherboard. That, combined with keeping the phone in the freezer, should give you enough time to back up all your data.
This is the same issue that used to happen to PlayStation 3's and Xboxes (ring of death). The heat in those game systems caused the GPU solder joints to fail. I've also had this happen to 2 of my old laptops (Dell and Thinkpad). In my laptops, the heat also caused the video chips to lose their solder connection to the motherboard. Heat kills.
Hopefully, LG will honor this known hardware issue and agree to replace your phone.

Note 8 Screen suddendly turn full flicker green !

Hello Guys !
I have a big massive Problem with my Note 8 SM-N950F.
I was watching Youtube and my Phone has worked fine no Problem no Green Screen till suddendly my Screen went full Green Flickering mode and I dont know what the Reason is. I restarted the Phone and it worked again no problem for 30min then it went back to Green flickering screen.
I have try : Restore the Phone as New completly Wipe out / Result = Negative
Installed a Custom Rom / Result = Negative
I did not dropped the Phone nor does it has a Water Damage.
The Green Flickering screen only comes when Im in the System but while I am on TWRP it never shows up so I think it has something to do with the system and not Hardware.
Problem still there still need a Help

A full wipe and flashing the latest official firmware usually solves non-hardware issues. If you tried that and the issue is still there, then it sounds like a hardware issue that would need repair (hopefully within warranty).

Motherboards can be faulty, etc. It doesn't have to be caused by the user. If you flash stock with full wipe and the issue persists then the only remaining variable is hardware. Either that or maybe you didn't do the full wipe when flashing latest firmware. Not sure what else to suggest beyond those two possibilities. Hope you get it working.
I had this also on my N950F. It happened very suddenly while I was using it:-
* Greenish tint
* Reduced brightness capability
* Flickering
* ~half-inch border of more intense tinting on all four sides
Cut a long story short - couldn't fix it with a complete factory reset.
Today, the problem has suddenly disappeared and the screen is perfect after four days with this issue. Just out of the blue - screen back to normal.
I'm guessing it was either a dodgy board connection which righted itself, or a temporary light sensor issue.
it is a hardware fault relating to the lcd. this is usually seen when the phone has been dropped. and is a broken lcd. i know its stated it wasnt dropped but that is the issue

Yes, that's it, if not droped, then a faulty screen, just like that, many people wish that all problems can be fixed by some trick, clever app or hidden setting, but, in true, a very little number of troubles are fixed this way, so my advice would be to take the device to an authorized samsung service center

Be nice to people trying to help you.
There is two causes to this. Software or hardware. Next time it happens try screen capture. If appears on screen shot it's software buggy. Although highly unlikely but if it does usually a reboot or factory reset solves it.
Other more likely scenario is hardware. If you used a crt tv you'll know as its the same symtom of failing picture tube.
And it's definitely not connector issue.
