Will the Nexus 6 support Google Wallet Tap and Pay? I'm assuming that it will. I'm on T-Mobile and currently have the Note 3 which they are blocking from working with Google Wallet. Since this is a Google device, I'm hoping that Tap and Pay will work. I'm tired of the Isis/SofCard stuff especially since it doesn't work with rooted phones.

The Note 3 isn't blocked. The NFC chip in the Note 3 doesn't have support for Host Card Emulation in KitKat.
Google not supporting Google Wallet fully on their own branded device would be silly. Especially with Apple Pay now on the scene. There is a 99.999% chance that it will work..
Use it all the time without fail on my g3. Should be awesome bumping a big screen TV to the pay pass device.

I'm using Isis on my rooted Note 3: I used an Xposed module called RootCloak. 'Worked like a charm.
Got mine yesterday and setup Wallet, Tap & Pay is working as expected.

I've been having a lot of trouble using sofcard since rooting in my note 3. Root cloak does NOT work. But the root cloak module with xposed did the trick. It now works flawlessly.

Since this is the nexus 6 forums and is running lollipop. Xposed does not work on our device.
To answer op, Google wallet works without any problems although you should note that some companies have disabled Nfc payments due to their partnership with that company, I forget on the top of my head but search for cvs Google wallet

Been using Wallet since I got the phone last week from ATT. I wish I got a buck for; "Oh is that the new iPhone 6?" comments, Apple did invent paying via NFC after all.

Just to be clear... It sounds like the op is talking about tap and pay, which is one of many features of google wallet. Subsequent answers seem to be making the assumption that google wallet IS tap and pay, which is patently untrue. Google wallet works fabulously on old non-NFC iphones for example... Its just that the tap and pay feature doesnt.
In answer to whether gw tap and pay works on the n6, it works fine. But beware if you are into custom roms... Last i looked, there were no AOSP roms besides stock google, in which tap and pay works without kludgey workarounds if at all.
My att n6 is rooted but othwise stock and i used gw tap and pay in the verizon store to buy something for my brother, and in the tmobile store to buy something for my wife.
I used gw tap and pay at CVS and Walgreen's a few months ago on my 4.4.2 note 2 and it worked fine. But I've heard the drug stores are might be trying to do something that might block he tap and pay.

There once was a NFC enabled microSD by Moneto that could utilize MasterCard Paypass, but wouldn't give access to Google Wallet, only access to Moneto's Paypass app. However there website says they're "Undergoing some Changes", and although i didn't look hard, I couldn't find any place to purchase - not to mention last I heard it was only compatible with Samsungs..

It's not AT&T's fault. When the Vivid, and just about every other phone, came out last year, NFC technology was in a state of flux - and it still is. Google announced just in the past day or so that it's changing to work with all cards. Few phones have the NFC chips. A lot of businesses are not yet equipped to work with them. The next round of new phones should have more phones with NFC chips. A year from now might be a lot different. However, taking a credit card from my "real" wallet and running it through the scanner might take 3-4 seconds. I really am not upset if that's 1-2 seconds slower than using my phone.
What is the status of getting Google wallet to work on the note 3? Ive had Google wallet since my nexus 5 days and really like the app. .. Will 4.4 bring us access to it?

Google wallet works, however the tap to pay feature doesn't. And that really sucks!
I believe Isis works now with 4.3, and if you flash 4.4 a certain way isis will still work. You'll have to search for that isis thread for more info.
So even with the N900A update this week we still do not have a working Tap to Pay on Google Wallet. I was hopefully both because of their response to my FCC complaint in Nov 13 that said 4.4 would have it and because its my understanding it works on the 4.4 update for the i337 S4.
I'm planning on starting a thread on the AT&T Community Support forums but I'd love to know if there's a simple way around this. I used to love Tap to Pay on my phones circa 2011/12 but I haven't had it for almost 3 years courtesy of all 3 Galaxy Note models. Has anyone attempted to side load the .apk from the Nexus 5?

I've been using tap-to-pay in Isis Wallet, and it works well. But I find that it's slightly more work to take out my phone, start the wallet app, enter my PIN, and tap than it is to take out my physical wallet, remove the credit card, and swipe. Tap-to-pay is entertaining because it still has novelty value, but I don't see any practical advantage yet.
I was also hoping that the update would include support for tap to pay. I had the X-Note Rom installed for a while and tap to pay surprisingly worked. Probably because it was based off of an international Rom I would assume. I have gone back to stock and not having tap to pay again sucks. I hope Google can force AT&T to let us use it soon.

From a security standpoint it's far more secure than a physical card presented to the cashier. Convenience wise, it's easier to not carry multiple cards and safer too from a potential lose your wallet standpoint.
I agree there's a high level of novelty but it's a useful feature none the less. ISIS is a boondoggle and only works with AT&T provides sim cards. I'm usually on Straight Talk or Go Phone when in the US.

Yes, and unfortunately it still doesn't use the tap-to-pay feature.
I'm like you. When I was with t-mobile, I returned my precious Note3 all because of this stupid carrier blocking this service. I went with the Nexus5.
My wife and I, recently moved to at&t, and knowing the 4.4.2 update was just around the corner, I jumped into another Note3.
Now, since I'm full blown official 4.4.2, I STILL CAN'T USE GOOGLE'S WALLET TAP-TO-PAY FEATURE!!!
WHAT THE HELL!?!?
Even side loading my Nexus5 Google wallet apk, it still won't activate the service I fell in love with on my Nexus5!

I can see those advantages arising eventually, but for me at least they're not here yet. I only use one card anyway, and until e-wallets are accepted everywhere, I still need to carry the card. Everyplace that accepts e-wallets also allows self-swiping of cards, so there's no cashier risk if I use my card instead of my e-wallet. Card readers can be skimmed, but so can NFC readers.
Nonetheless, I would like tap-to-pay to work.
I came here researching for a friend who wants wallet tap and pay on his AT&T note 3 and I have to comment on the "novelty" factor. I have a t-mobile s4 running TheSickness's Insane Kit Kat V8 and I use tap and pay on a daily basis. I have one bank account and 2 debit cards linked to wallet and each payday I allot myself an amount to use for lunches and things at work. There are two stores beside mine, a drugstore and an upscale, independent grocery store, who both have NFC registers. I don't have to pull out a card or fumble with cash because I already always have my phone in my hand. I tap the card reader and put in my wallet pin and I walk out. It's not just novel, it's incredibly useful and helps me budget my income better. Just my two cents.
Edit : come to think of it, the McDonald's and the subway there both have NFC, too.

NFC can't be skimmed, not like a credit card. While its true the phone is using Host Card Emulation there is little to be gained by capturing the NFC data. The Wallet app communicates with Google's servers to generate unique card data for each transaction. That's why the Google Wallet app only functions when you have internet access.
I didn't want to clutter up the root thread asking but some people seem very bent on being able to keep samsung pay but why? Isn't it pretty much just google pay just from a different company? I never use things like this so I am not sure if you get some kind of bonus or something using it.

Samsung pay works anywhere (even terminals where apple pay &Android pay don't).
It's really cool when u pull your phone out and the cashier say w"we don't have that here" and it works.

Okay so it's no different from just cards with tap to pay chip in them. I can see why some people care then but I don't know root or being able to use my phone as my wallet is a toss up.

I use to root every phone I had within moments of getting it. I liked Android Pay and on the Nexus 6 was not happy when on Marshmallow they took away Android Pay if the phone was rooted, however someone very smart figured out how to get around this. However on the S7 Edge root was not there right away and got to where I was using Samsung Pay a few times a week. I like being able to not have to pull out my wallet in stores and just tap my phone and pay. Since this works at I would say 85%+ plus of stores it because a standard that I expect to be able to do. Now that phones don't have to have root and custom roms to make them work good out of the box I would not trade having root to give up Samsung Pay.

The only time it won't work is on magnetic card readers that has a manual switch that a physical card has to touch to activate the magnetic head.
Can you guys list where it has worked for you (besides walgreens) so I won't look stupid when the clerk says "I told you so!"?

Works damn near everywhere I tried, even on those old school terminals with the keypad. Since Samsung pay started, I've made about $200 dollars from promotions. New device promotions, being the first 100 to use any hour on a specific day, and referrals.

Paid a contractor that had a plug in mag strip on his iPad. (I was surprised that worked)

Actually Samsung Pay is faster. Loading your card into chip terminals takes longer to process. Sometimes you have to swipe first, then insert into chip reader. On mag strips only, sometimes my card or the mag strip reader itself doesn't read properly, I would have to swipe more than once. And also, using Samsung pay is more secure.

Talk about extra security.... paying either way with Samsung Pay is tokenized... so even if they some "dupe" the transaction, the information is useless... that's not lazy, that's just smart.... :highfive: :good:

Why pull out your wallet from your back pocket, use the other hand to take your card out from whatever slot it's on, hold your walllet with one hand while with the other had making sure you have the card facing correctly so you can swipe or insert it properly, then swipe your card or insert your card in the chip reader (hopefully you won't accidentally leave it if you're in a rush), then when done, open wallet, put card back in with the other hand, put wallet away, then grab your stuff.
When you can just take your phone out with one hand, wake up your phone, swipe up from bottom to launch Samsung pay, approve to use it with your finger print and put the phone next to the magnetic card swipe. When done just put your phone away all with 1 hand.
But if you feel it's all about the same then who cares whichever people use. Having options are always good in my book [emoji106]
Unless you happen to forget your wallet and you have only your phone, without Samsung pay then there's no option but to drive all the way back home. Lol

Samsung wireless pay card. BT 4.1 enabled credit card size device you can keep in your wallet and manage via your phone. Well hasn't been invented yet but maybe Samsung will see my post. [emoji38]

I just can't seem to get Samsung Pay to work with Walmart card readers. Think they have them rigged somehow to help push their Walmart pay service?
I've never got it to work at Walmart. I think it has something to do with their actual card readers not allowing it to work. Probably trying to push their own Walmart pay

Up at self checkout, I can only get one register to work. All the others get card read errors. The one that works, when it asks for my pin, I have to select "change payment method" and select Credit for it to go through. If someone is on this register, I'm screwed.
I had the same issue of it not work and I had left my wallet at home!
We tried for about 3 minutes and little did I know that at least 10 other people were in line behind me LOL
I told the lady at the register I would be back and for her to hold my things ( I never went back)
Always works with me. The cashiers have the shocked look on their faces every time. Lol
Works for me every time at both the self checkout and regular line.
Works fine for me. Used BOA and citi bank cards just fine.
Works for me at Walmart. The only store where I haven't been able to make it work is Lowe's.

It uses both. It uses NFC on tap to pay terminals and the magnetic spoofing on magnetic swipe terminals.
To the OP: I've only been able to use it once in Walmart. I've tried 10 times now at several different Walmarts and have never gotten it to work again, even on the same register where it worked before.

True it can use tap to pay, but even on those machines I just do MST lol I never use NFC.

Actually it is my understanding that if you have NFC turned off, Samsung Pay will enable it temporarily for the payment and I have seen in settings where NFC goes on in my first Note because one time it failed to turn off after paying.
I have also read in several places that Samsung Pay automatically turns on NFC.

Where as this is true, it is not dependent upon nfc and they enable it to provide both possible options. It is not dependent on if there is a nfc device to tap so in this case if Walmart disables the nfc payment reader our Samsung devices won't care because it will use the mst instead.

Exactly. I just don't get it. Ive been using phone/NFC payments since the Nexus S. It still seems new to ppl.

PDAnet doesn't work any longer. Been like that for years on the Nexus / Pixel line. I forgot what the messages were, it's been a long time. I just had to hotspot.

Glad I read this, I was about to get the 4 XL for pdanet usage via USB tethering option. Not gonna work for me. Bummer. /end excitement.
It's working perfectly for me. Unlocked Pixel 4XL from Best Buy on Verizon. PDANet+ Ver. 5.22.1. I'm bootloader unlocker and rooted with Magisk. Also followed the native tethering guide here https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-4-xl/how-to/how-to-native-tethering-rooted-pixel-4-t3993405. I previously used it on my Note 8 and had to do WPS to connect because it changed the password every time I believe since the Note 8 was unrooted. I have FoxFi key installed but not FoxFi. It's not being throttled either. Getting 60-70Mbps down 10Mbps up
I haven't been rooted in years. Perhaps that's the way but I never used to have to do that I don't think. Nonetheless I'm glad it's working for you.

The link you provided has nothing to do with PDAnet. Does that work if you're not rooted? I actually forgot what the problem was that I had, maybe it was a licensing issue? I paid for it many years ago so maybe they wanted another subscription fee? I have a Verizon plan that includes the hotspot even though it's probably throttled. I'm just curious if it still works, I even still have my license key. Years ago when hotels were charging $10 or so / night for internet access it was a savior.
