this may sound like a weird question, but help would be appreciated. i just got the turbo. i upgraded from a droid RAZR Maxx and not the new one the one from 2011 XT912 so the latest non rooted OS i had was JB i think. i rooted my phone and was using CM11 and it was awesome. but now i am using unrooted 4.4.4 and it is not awesome. first why is it a non stock thing to not be able to change quick setting tiles. that just is dumb. and why cant i add fonts? anyways i digress. the real question i have is when i hold down the home button a half circle thing pops up with a magnifying glass in the center. is there a way to add to this quick action bar items or is it strictly a search button when you hold down home.

I'm coming from CM11 on XT912 also. I miss a lot of the features from CM, hotspot in particular. Praying for root to help us out. But no, there's no way to change that with stock rom from what i know.

Check out Power Toggles from Play Store. Super customizable, only downside is it needs a notification icon to remain pinned to top of pull down.
Thanks i am using power toggles. mine was more of a question to learn exactly what i can and cannot do with locked down phone. some stuff just confuses me like this. they put what could be awesome things in the OS then for some reason lock it down so we cannot use. it is like here, you see this cheesecake, don't eat it.

Google dropped the ball on this one. First, no gps button. Second, the buttons that do exist only take you to a menu (ie, the wifi menu) from where you can actually turn things on or off. Also, apparently no ability to customize whats in the quick settings.
With all the great implementations of quick settings available in both custom roms and widgets, google had a lot of great ideas from which it could have modeled its own quick settings, but somehow it managed to put out this worthless piece of garbage. I think most people will have to keep using widgetsoid or notification toggle and google's quick setting will almost never be used. What a disgrace.

The kind of people who want to badly customize it, is also the kind of people who do not need settings to do it.
I'm fine with it, if anything it'll probably only take the CM team a few minutes to change the functionality of it.

I agree. If anything, it gives a new platform/base for CM or other developers to build upon and a pretty spiffy one at that. I think it's a great first release for a feature. Just because you can see the future of it in current roms or inherently tell where it's going doesn't mean it shouldn't be a welcomed improvement. Could they have made it better? Of course, but that's not a reason to overreact and call it a "disgrace".
Yeah, I don't know what they're thinking. The buttons should obviously be toggles for quickly turning things on and off, not shortcuts to various settings menus. That's what the regular settings button in the notification shade is for. I was really excited when I first heard about this feature, since I expected Google to do the logical thing and put a bunch of useful toggles in there, but what they've ended up doing seems pretty pointless to me.

A great first release? I think it's a horrid first release. It takes as many clicks to turn wifi on or off in this implementation as it does under the current ics or jelly bean 4.1 without the so-called quick settings. Moreover, this is hardly a new feature. It has been around in roms and widgets literally for years. People want one-touch access to the most commonly used settings, and this so-called quick settings fails to provide that. And who the heck made the decision not to put gps in there?
Even as a first release, Google should have surveyed what is currently out there and tried to make its implementation at least as useful. I think it utterly failed. If you don't, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Thank you... I am not sure how anyone could disagree. Yeah, the two fingers to swipe down is cool, and maybe people think it looks nifty, but functionality is nearly nonexistent. And isn't functionality what android users demand first and foremost? If I want a beautiful but useless user interface, I'll look to apple.

Do like me, ignore them and hope CM will keep what they are doing best...
I liked the idea of swiping twice to bring a second notification shade down. But yeah, them just linking to settings pages sucks a little. The ideal setting is to tap to toggle or hold to dive in and change settings in detail.
Ever since I found about about most settings just directing you to the appropriate settings menu, I was also disappointed.
The only proper toggle I think there is brightness, it brings up a little popup in the middle of the screen with a slider.
google's probably going to update it soon
Keep your opinions in here

Hi all, I've had a lot Android Phones before this baby came. All my devices have been rooted with custom roms installed to get better performence.
Currently my RAZR xt890 is running stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2. It is pretty fast and responsive with very good battery life, so question is why you modifing your Motos now? what is an advantage?
Thanks

settings = ugly (why they need to change the default?)
I wasn't able to set an MP3 as a ringtone (motorola added a new section in settings for sounds/notifications that never worked form me. try it pls)
the left screen on the launcher was a terrible entire screen "Power control"... totally useless
I don't remeber other things that made me custom my rom

Well,
The ringtone problem, even if its a problem, just open a music player and put it like a ringtone
Settings? Come on, its the most stock based settings, you see touchwiz? Sense? Only xperia has the same light custom settings.
The power control on the left its a very good idea, for normal people who never gonna know what is "root" or "launcher" its very practice
I only complain about split the signal bar and 3G/hdspa+ icons on status bar, thats all

custom themes are ok... I don't like it... but it's not a big problem
If you're gonna change something that's already working, at least do it right, why create a whole new section about sound/notifications if it doesn't work?
Power control widget does the same and doesn't take a whole screen.. I like it when I first see it.... then after 2 weeks I saw it was useless
So I've had my Moto X for about a week now, and I just rooted with JCase's new RockMyMoto. Then I used MotoXposed to hide the ATT label and fix the wifi gap, but suddenly I realized the close all button doesnt appear when I open my recents menu. I honestly don't know if I just never noticed till now, or if I broke something.
Wait... Is that a custom ROM feature? Where the recent apps button becomes three horizontal lines like the clear all in the notification drawer? I've been on PA since I bought my GNex so I don't remember. The Moto X is so smooth I've never tried till now.

i was surprised when i noticed that button wasnt on the moto x; i could have sworn that was a default android feature. i got it back on my phone using the gravity box module on the xposed framework (its under "miscellaneous tweaks")
Does gravitybox work with MotoXposed? I only rooted to get rid of the ATT label and the WiFi gap an couldn't think of anything else I wanted to do. That's how slick this phone is! I'll live without it cause they extra RAM and horsepower don't make it necessary like my GNex and Kitkat has improved memory management when we get our "very soon" update

there are a few "issues" that have come up but they may not necessarily be major (depends on the user). i've noticed conflicts in settings that are in both modules, and since i didn't know which is prioritized over the other i probably spent more time than i should have tinkering/experimenting with both to see their cause and effects. with that said, i did manage to get both working together with everything done to my likings..
but like you said, this is the first android phone where i didnt want/need to do too many changes and im *extremely* happy i dont have to go the custom rom route as with all my previous phones
Hi,
I have the AT&T model, stock build 4.2.2 before the camera patch.
There is a navigation ring (swipe from nav bar). The single entry is Google Now. I can't find any way to change it.
There is no ribbon.
Quick setting is there. However, I can't change it (add or remove).
I've gone through the settings but could not find anything. I am probably missing something really obvious.
Can anyone point me to the right direction?
Thanks
You can't change those on stock.

I think I misunderstand this whole thing. I always thought close-to-stock means openness (and thus customization). I guess that's not the case at all
Is there an app can change some of them (the first annoying is goolge now) without rooting?
Thanks

Actually, Widgetsoid appears to be better.
The only missing piece now is how to change the navigation ring. Minimally, I want to disable it!
I am using a Droid Turbo an an M8. When I select the right capacitive button, the M8 has the option to kill all currently active apps with an "x" at the top of the list. I don't see this on the Droid Turbo. Is there a way to do this other than swiping them away individually?

Maybe there's a launcher or home screen app that supports this somehow...

I noticed the same and wondered...
I use ES Task Manager and just hit a "kill all" every now and then. But, with the amount of RAM we have, and the few apps I run, I'm never short of memory (usually between 700-1300MB available)

I just installed it, works well. As you mentioned in the OP of your thread, can't kill any apps from it without root. Still really useful though, thanks a lot man.
Coming off an iPhone 4S to the Turbo this is a feature I always envied of my wife's Galaxy's S4. I tested the Turbo for hours at the VZ store and figured it must be a setting somewhere that I simply cannot find. I bought the phone regardless only to learn the close all apps option does not exist. I can't understand why Moto would be so lazy but at the same time it has not been an issue at all. Every so often I just swipe them away. With the high powered spec of this phone you needn't worry. However I do hope to see this feature in Lollipop...
