USB Mount Issues (CM7)

Hey, everyone, I tried posting about this in the CM7 general discussion thread, but no one seemed apt to respond.
I think this was a problem that popped up in the 60s or 70s in terms of nightlies, but I'm having it again now since around the 155 mark.
I'm on 160 and when I plug my NC into the USB cable, I no longer get any options to connect for file transfers in the notification area. If anyone could help me out with this, I'd really appreciate it. It's just so perplexing and no one seems be having this issue except me. If it's user-side error, that's fine as well, I'd just like to know how to fix it.

1. When you plugged the NC in, did the PC recognize any "removable" drive?
2. In the notification area, did you see any other indication?
3. You run CM7 off uSD or eMMC?

1. No, nothing comes up.
2. The notification area remains blank.
3. I'm running it off eMMC.

If so, unplug the usb cable then replug in a few times and see what happens.
If still nothing, try to use other usb cable.

Oh, btw, have you had Nookcolotweaks app installed?

I do have Nook Tweaks installed, yes. I'm using the cable that came with the Nook, but I'm not sure I have any other cables around.

Do make sure you check OFF the USB Host feature (reboot and reconnect)

I gave that a try, too, but still nothing. So confusing!

Don't be so hard on yourself.
Let try it on different computer if you have.
Also try difference usb cable.
Last, if nothing works, update latest nightly build

When you disconnect and reconnect the nook in testing/trying to get it recognized... unplug usb cable from computer... its made a difference at times.

I know this sounds basic but in applications-settings ensure you have usb debugging checked. Sometimes when flashing different nightlies, settings change.

Thanks again for all the help, everyone! I made sure USB debugging was checked and tried unplugging/replugging the cable, but there's still no notification coming up.

A new development:
I tried connecting it to my Windows PC instead of my Linux and it brought up this message that said it didn't recognize the device. I also tried to get ADB to see it and it can't. Does this information help or am I in trouble here?

Next time, do clearly indicate that you are using Linux or Windows. I'm sure many members here are Linux but still far less support than Windows world.
When I provided those suggestions in previous posts, I meant in Windows.
Anyway, back to your issue.
1. "it didn't recognize the device" because of missing adb usb driver. You need to get it installed first in order to use ADB, however it has nothing to do with your usb mass storage function. For now, you don't need to worry about it just yet.
2. Back to my question before, have you seen any "removable" on the PC (Windows)
Along with USB Host uncheck, if still having problem, I would suggest you either downgrade to the earlier versions or wait until tomorrow and update with another nightly build.

I have the ADB drivers installed in Windows, as far as I know. I've used it before.
I typed "adb devices" into the prompt and it doesn't see the NC at all. Since one of the nightlies seems to be what prompted this sudden change in connectivity, I guess I'll just hope that one of the new ones can fix it. Thanks again.
Also, Windows doesn't show anything "removable" except for my external HD.

Try to disable usb debugging as you can still use ADB over wifi. This should always put the device to usb storage mode when connected.

I tried this out and even ADB wireless can't connect to my device. I even re-installed the ADB drivers in Windows to be sure the problem wasn't on that end.

If you're using ADB wireless, no need to install any driver on Windows PC, you just need 2 files: adb.exe and AdbWinApi.dll, to connect to Android device.
If you've installed ADB drivers, you might want to remove it as this might mess up usb storage.

Alrighty. I have those two. I've connected my NC to ADB both wirelessly and and with the cable in the past, so this should all be straightforward anyhow. It just plain refuses to cooperate.

Go to the Marketplace and download "Nook Color UMS" app. Follow instructions and it will mount properly. I had the same issue used it and it mounts proper through the app.

[Q] HP Touchpad not recognized by Windows

I searched all over and found some similar threads, but after reading through all of them I'm still stuck and can't figure this out.
I have a 32GB Touchpad that I put CM9 Alpha .5 on, and it was working fine. Installed without a hitch. I went to flash Alpha 2, and it broke moboot - and now I have the android system on there, however I can't boot it, and I can't reflash it, which is the main problem.
When I go into recovery mode (vol up and power), and hook it up to my Windows 7 64 machine (or my 7 64 laptop, or my hackintosh OS X Lion - all with novacom drivers and whatnot) it shows up as Palm Novacom (bootie), but won't mount the USB drive so I can run ACMEInstaller2. I've tried reinstalling all the drivers, usb, novacom, etc, and even reset webOS with webdoctor. It still won't show up.
When I boot into webos and mount as disk drive, it shows up fine. I even took those drivers and replaced the palm bootie drivers with those, but that still didn't solve it. The few threads I found similar to this solved their problems by now, or it worked on another computer. I don't have easy access to other machines aside from those 3, and some friends Mac's that didn't work either. I rarely post when I run into a problem, always try to solve things on my own but I can't figure it out for the life of me. Just want to get CM9 back up and running!
Anyone have any other ideas? Greatly appreciated, thanks!

Thanks, bah tried all that - the problem is mounting USB recovery, can't get into androidto test anything else. I'll have access to a few other computers this weekend so I"ll see if they can find it. Going to rewipe everything tonight as well, will update... pretty annoying.

I have an idea.
What you can try is to reboot into WebOS, mount the /media drive so you can copy files to it from Windows. On that media drive, there should still be a folder called cminstall. Copy the moboot install zip back into there, and then reboot the tablet into recovery (Power+VolUp). From there, run AcmeInstaller2 again, and you should be good to go - it'll run, and force an install of the contents of that /media/cminstall folder, which'll put Moboot back in place.
At least, that's what SHOULD happen. I'm no expert, but from what I've seen and played with, that should do what you're trying to achieve.

Thanks for trying.. Not exactly what it needed to be fixed though. I have everything ready to go in uninstall, the computer (any computer I've tried so far, and its been quite a few - that all used to read the touchpad in recovery mode) won't register it and mount it as a drive so I can run ACMEInstaller in the first place.
It must have changed something on the touchpad itself, because it used to mount fine before that happened... Now every computer installs it as palm novacom booties and never mounts the actual drive, and acmeinstaller just says no device or something like that. Bah, still can't figure it out, I miss android haha.

Did you enable MTP in the advanced menu under the Storage section?

Are you trying to get the device to show up in adb? If you are having troubles with that I found a really nice guide on another website on how to get adb to read the touchpad if nothing else is working. Not sure if I can post the link or not. Send me a pm if this is something you need.

Problem is I can't boot into android cause the bootloader broke and I can't get it to boot android period, even with cyboot. I know all l I have to do is run ACME again... But I can't run it cause it won't mount haha. Stuck in webOS for now, and every computer I've tried won't boot recovery mode anymore. Drivers check out and register but can't change anything to recognize it as a drive. I think I'm going to try to manually uninstall everything android, then reinstall webOS and see if it mounts then. Blah!

AHHH, just got it to run ACMEInstaller on my original computer. For the hell of it I tried the last thing I could think of and it worked.

HOWEVER; I started webOS doctor. I got to the screen where it says connect your device with a usb cable and stayed there - the next button was enabled so webosdoctor saw the touchpad. It still didn't mount, but I ran ACMEInstaller for the hell of it without going any further with webosdoctor and it just ran and completed.
Back up and running Alpha 2, whew! Hopefully this can help someone else if this happens to them.

This trick with webOS doctor just saved my ass. I couldn't boot past the green cyanogenmod splash screen and needed to boot straight off an image from moboot on my desktop, and taking webOS doctor to that step was the only thing that would let me run the command line entry to make it where my PC would talk to my touchpad. So, thank you

Would this work for a TP that reads both ways on PC as listed by OP but is only stock?

What do mean by run ACMEInstaller? I only know using the novacom boot mem:// <ACMEInstaller method, though that's getting stuck while on the two penguin screen.

Hp touchpad 32GB converted into Android 4.4.4.KitKat with ROM CM11
Hi My name is Ramadoss.N Recently I have converted my touch pad to Android KITKAT 4.4.4. with Rom CM11 -20140625- Snap Shot- jcsulline. I used TPtoolbox V41d to install. Everything working fine. except few observation.
1. Bottom Menu Button like Home , Return to previous screen are not working in vertical position of touchpad, where as it works in Horizontal position.
2. There are 3 dots on right hand side corner to provide dropdown menu: it works in vertical position, does not work in Horizontal position.
3. search icon ( which looks like a magnifying glass) does not work in both positions.
4.Back space key working in Vertical position, does not work in horizontal position.
5. Could not load Music via computer after installing Android in the Touchpad,
I really appreciate if any one can give me solution for above.

PC not detecting Tablet.

I've bought a used Galaxy Samsung GT-P1000 running Froyo.JPJM5, Firmware 2.2, and Kernal 2.6.32.9, 27.7GB internal memory.
My problem is that I can't get the PC to identify the tablet using the USB cable.
What I do and what happens when I plug in the tablet~
(USB Debugging on)
I connect the USB cable into the PC first. I plug the cable into the tablet. A 'USB is connected' notification shows up. I open it, and click mount.
I look at my computer's monitor and there's absolutely nothing showing that it EITHER identified or not! It doesn't even show a popup.
So I went to my Disk Management to check if it was hidden or something. There's nothing. It just shows my regular hard disks and that's it. No mounted anything. I even looked into my Device Manager and all seems working.
(USB Debugging off)
Nothing happens in either the PC or Tablet.
Things I've tried-
1) Enable USB Debugging.
- Plugging in the tablet, restart computer, and then enable USB Debugging while connected.
- Disable USB Debugging, restart computer w/ tablet connected.
- Plug tablet into PC, and then restart tablet. (with USB debugging and not)
2) Get KIES.
3) Uninstall KIES and only download the USB_drivers.exe thing that comes with KIES.
4) Uninstall everything (including drivers) and getting Android SDK + update everything (about 370mb).
5) Install Ubuntu and trying to get it identified + downloaded Android SDK package and updated everything. (also did lsusb- it doesn't see the tablet)
6) Tried each and every USB port in my PC. (10 ports). [Note: My other Android phone works in any of them)
7) Tried my bro's and sis' comp (win7 32bit)
8) Tried my dad's laptop (win7 64bit)
9) I unplugged tablet, placed the memory card(2GB) of my Android phone into it. Plugged it in my computer and yet it doesn't want to see it.
10) I went to a shop because I thought the USB cable is broken or the port hub is broken. The guy took it and plugged it on his PC using my own cable. He identified the problem and said "It needs its software to be updated". I asked how much, and he said $15. **** that ****. If he can do it, I can do it.
Conclusions up until now:
Tablet knows that its getting hooked up by the computer yet it doesn't send any information to the PC letting it know that it's a mounted drive.
USB Cable is fine.
Port hub is fine since it can detect the USB cable on *usb debugging* mode and I can charge the tablet with the USB cable plugged into the charger.

Note: I tried to root it using z4root which doesn't require a USB connection. It doesn't work. It would work and work until the application crashes and I can't re open it as it always crashes after the first try. I tried using the temporary root option and it would load forever. All in all, doesn't work.
Note2: I attached 2 screenshots. One for my Disk Management window showing my partitions while the tablet is connected (and I pressed Mount on tablet). Second, is for my Device Manager window showing that there no unidentified devices and that the USB devices don't show any Android connected, yet on tablet it says it's mounted.

But when you are using ubuntu,
did you put in this line to your /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="04e8", MODE="0666"
btw, the 51-blabla filename can be 51-xxxxxanything
once done
sudo /etc/init.d/udev restart
plug in your tab to USB port
then if you have your Android SDK, you should have adb?
do
adb devices
does it show your tab?

Out of idea.

If it isn't recognizing the sd card you could try another one. Format it in the tablet, plug it into the computer, put the update on the sd card and update that way and see if it gets recognized that way.

What do you mean by 'put the update on the sd card'. What update?
Anyways, what I tried is that I used another SD Card (128MB), placed it in, formatted it in the tablet, and plugged it into the computer. Nothing happened on the PC. :|
'adb devices' doesn't show any devices connected either.
(I wanted to confirm that 'adb devices' is indeed working so I tried plugging my Android phone (ST-GT602) and ran adb devices- it showed it. But not the tablet.)
Is there anything other than z4root to root a phone without a USB connection? Or is there anything that might trigger the tablet to let the PC identify it? For example, is there anything that I can place on the SD Card (through another connection.. using my phone for example), then plug it into the tablet, then run that application?
I don't care if it's for rooting or not. Perhaps it would help.

Why don't you spend that $15 at the shop?

You might find the Android update online (ICS to GB) or something like that and try to flash a signed update but if your computer doesn't recognize an Android formatted sd card I'm not sure how you would get the card formatted and then get the information to the card. You might search for the update on your tablet, download it and flash it using stock recovery. Maybe getting it updated might work but I have no idea why an out of date tablet won't show up
Also you could try searching online for modified drivers for the device.
Par that I have no idea. Might have to go back and pay the 15 but I would ask the repair guy if you could watch step by step what he is doing.

Can't put Touchpad in USB Mode

Hello,
Days ago I tried to uninstall from my Touchpad since I wanted a clean reboot to reuse the tablet. However I realized that the tablet wasn't turning on, and she wasn't able to get in USB Mode.... The thing is that to get a clean wipe I need to use ACMEUninstaller2, but it says that the device is not found, so I guess that It's the USB Mode that's breaking everything. I tried quite a few things but nothing works, the tablet just don't want to get in USB Mode.
By the way, when I connect with USB the Touchpad to the PC, the PC recognizes it, but tolds me that "The drivers of this devices aren't installed", which is strange since I installed all Novacom drivers I could find...
Also, I'm asking if you could help me with that, since I searched everywhere I haven't found anything on this.

The novacom driver is what communicates to the HP Touchpad and is use to load any boot uImage into memory.
( It does mount or allow the use of the USB drive ) The USB drive is a partition formatted in vfat that gets mounted by TWRP or any other Recovery and also Android.
To load any boot uImage into memory.
Boot Tablet and select ((( boot WebOS Recovery ))) from the moboot 0.3.8 menu
If there is no moboot 0.3.8 menu, then press power and volume key closes to the power key and the same time until the big white USB symbol comes up.
Plug the tablet into PC using USB.
On the PC unzip the Recovery file you will like to use.
Go to the extracted folder and open a terminal window or command prompt.
Type:
novacom boot mem:// <
after < ( place the name of the uImage file)
Example for TWRP will be
novacom boot mem:// <uImage.TWRP
If you want to load the ToolBox, then unzip TPToolbox-2015-01-08-v42.zip
rename the file TPToolbox-2015-01-08-v42.bin to uImage.TPToolbox
Open a terminal window in that directory and load it:
novacom boot mem:// <uImage.TPToolbox

I followed everything you said but my tablet isn't getting on USB Mode, I tried so many things but it don't wan't to.... When I do Power + Volume UP, I'm getting a charging icon, but when I try to charge the tablet, as I don't have any official charger, it tolds me I need to get one, but I don't really have 15 dollars to use in a charger, since I remember that I could charge the tablet without the official one when she was still working...

To charge the HP Touchpad you need any charger that will meet this specifications:
Output: 5.3volts, 2.0amps
For all of you that think your tablet is Brick or not functional or having issues:
No electronic device known to man existence can work without been properly charge or connected using the proper power source.
Even for a car, if it does not have a full working battery it will not start no matter if you replace the engine.
It is a basic procedure to follow.
1. Check for proper charging.
2. Start trouble shooting.

I see. I searched and I'm still searching for that charger, but, just to know, if I connect the tablet to the USB ports of my computer, will it charge it even if there's a message telling me that I need the official charger ? Also, does USB 3.0 or 2.0 changes anything to the charging speed ?
Because I don't see any LED or sign of the tablet charging so I'm a little bit confused on how it works...

The HP TOUCHPAD will ONLY CHARGE using a charger providing the following:
Output: 5.3volts, 2.0amps
It will not take enough charge to make it boot from no other source, NO USB connected to PC.
It will be the same as using a 9volt battery to start your car.

Ok ! I've got something ! So I managed to get the tablet charged, and so I used ACMEuninstaller2, the thing is that it told me something like "ERROR : unable to.... When the tablet will boot, it will fail to launch, and then use webos doctor !" So I did it and I'm struggling with a 8% error, wich tells me that webos doctor is unable to reset the phone... I tried wikipedia and every xda thread I could see and nothing works... I'm desesperate, It's really the kind of things that happens to me and just me....

Can't transfer files to my HP touchpad

I can't find a way to transfer the ROM files to my Touchpad to flash it.
I have TWRP on my touchpad already. I have the Novacom drivers on my PC.
I currently have a Dirty Unicorn ROM on my touchpad, which is fine, except the wifi has never worked, and and neither does the bluetooth. And now, when I connect my touchpad to my PC with a USB cable I can't get my PC to see the touchpad as an external drive. It will see the touchpad (and I have the option to eject it), but when I try to open it there is just a blank window with no files in and I can't copy anything to that. When I try on my touchpad to change the USB connection option all of the options are greyed out, so it is stuck with charging from USB.
I tried in TWRP using the "Mount as USB" option, but this doesn't do anything.
Is there another way to force files onto my touchpad? I seem to remember there used to be another program that would do something like that, but no idea what it was...
Oh, I'm running Windows 10 on my PC.
Let me know if you need any more information.

One step at a time:
What type of USB cable is been use to connect Tablet to PC?
If is the original HP cable, then the issue may be the partition not set up properly.
It can be resolve by flashing Wipe_ALL, it will reformat everything, if not using WebOS.

If the USB cable is not the original, then make sure it supports DATA transfer.
Not all USB charging cable support DATA.
To test connect another Android Device to PC, if DATA can be transfer then it should work on the HP_TP, if not then it can be the partition.

I have a similar problem.
I have put the Evervolv (this file ev_tenderloin-9-userbuild-2019.08.30.zip) on my TouchPad after it hasn't been used for many years. And now the TouchPad is stuck on the Evervolv logo.
Since I have deleted the previous ROM's zip file from the partition, I cannot flash the previous ROM with TWRP. I need a way to somehow put a ROM on the tablet.
When I connect the Touchpad to my Windows 7 PC, Windows does not recognize it, even when the tablet is in WebOS recovery with a USB symbol on the screen.
HELP!!!
I am hoping there a little thing I am not doing which will allow me to revive the old but dear device.

The Tablet does not need a ROM to transfer files, it is done by Recovery.
The WebOS Recovery mode is not for file transfer, is only use to load uImages onto memory, like the ToolBox.
Are you using the original USB cable?
The cable must provide Data, not all USB cables provide data.
The MiscroSD partition or USB must be mounted in Recovery TRWP, before conecting to PC for data transfer.
Take a look at this guide if need it to re-partition the Tablet or run the ToolBox.
