Cant mount sd-ext - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

When I'm in recovery mode, i am unable to mount the 'SD-Ext' partition to wipe it (using the advanced wipe function). Is this normal for this device ?
All other partitions mount and wipe without a hitch including the external sdcard, this is the only one i have any problems with.

I9001 full phone wipe

I have few questions for wiping the phone?
A lot of time passed since I bought this phone, and there are a lot of garbage in sdcard and system itself? I changed many ROMs, and I want to breathe new life to phone.
I am interested in following CWM functions:
format /system
format /cache
format /data
format /sdcard
format /emmc
Will it erase everything and everything from the phone and sdcard, including the system?
Will this remove CWM and Root?
How to flash new system again, when I am not able to boot?
Is above procedure same as this, except that in this case, I am able to boot latest installed system?
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik
- format sdcard
- format emmc
What about code *2767*3855# , what is included under this type of wipe/reset?
Thanks
This just wipes apps. When you format /system it won't boot so you can only install a new ROM or restore a backup.. And no CWM won't be deleted..
Most ROMs format system automatically. But when you upgrade from GB to ICS you should format system and wipe data, cache and Dalvik cache.
And about the code, it's called a hard reset, same as wipe data in CWM.

Emmc is external SD card, I don't really know if it formats all(music and stuff and apps) or just apps. But i think formatting in CWM wipes apps only ..So better not format it .. no ROM requires formatting SD or emmc
And you should always save backups on your PC..but if you format SD I don't think it will wipe data

Error mounting /sd-ext and factory reset

I tried to flash the ROM Nitrogen [Android UnChained] yesterday, and since I had a ext3 partition on my SD-Card i used his tool to convert it.
After that the ROM was working fine but wasn't recognizing my SDCard. Long story short, I ended up today making a full flash, Stock ROM 2.3.6 with ODIN because my phone was stuck in a bootloop for the recovery.
Now I flashed the CWM with Odin but phone does not boot the ROM.
I removed my SDCard and tried to make a Factory Reset in Recovery and when it tries to format /sd-ext I got the message: "E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2"
When I insert the SDCard and try to make the Factory Reset the Recovery just go back to the initial screen.
When I try to mound sd-ext it just says: Error mounting /sd-ext! If i choose in "mounts and storage" > "format /sd-ext" it goes back to initial screen, like rebooting the Recovery.
Please help me with that. I think the /sd-ext partition is messed up after I used the tool to convert it "PSN's Ext4 conversion tool".
Also my computer is Windows 8, couldn't recognize phone in download mode, used my friends Windows 7 computer to flash Stock ROM and CWM with ODIN.
And now I formated my SDCard and I have the primary partition as FAT32 and the second partition as EXT3, logical, with MiniTool.
TL;DR
Phone doesnt boot ROM, can't mount sd-ext!
edit:
Format the SDCard and recreated the partition with CWM, now I can format without a problem. Will try to flash another ROM now.
It's weird, when I flash the Stock ROM with Odin, and on the first boot it says: Updating package, and suddenly there's an error mounting /data
edit:
Fixed after creating the sd-ext as EXT4 with minitool and as Primary. Reinstalled the Nitrogen ROM and now my sd works. Phone is back

Help: Recovering Data Partition/Mount?

I'll try to be brief...
Background: I bought a used Samsung Galaxy Tab knowing full well that there was something wrong with the internal 2GB memory. The previous owner had installed CM10.1 nightlies on the SD card and was booting the tablet from the external SD card, totally bypassing the internal memory.
The goal: to recover the internal memory
Steps I've taken:
1. Removed external SD card so it doesn't boot from SD card
2. Successfully used Heimdall to re-flash to stock (VZW 2.3.5 Stock Root) - after the flash the tablet attempted to reboot. It went to the VerizonWireless screen and I think went into a bootloop.
3. Turned off the tablet and booted into the stock recovery. From the recovery menu I tried to reboot the system, which gave me the following error:
"failed to mount data"
4. Turned off the tablet and booted into stock recovery. I wiped the cache partition. Then I tried to wipe data/factory reset and got the following error:
"E:failed to mount /data (Invalid Argument)
E:install_application_for_customer: Can't mount /data
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions"
5. Using Heimdall I successfully flashed ClockworkMOD recovery, and booted into CM recovery.
6. I attempted to reboot system now and the tablet just hangs at the Samsung logo, doesn't even go to the Verizon screen.
So obviously there seems to be a problem with the /data partition. I'm not sure exactly what to try at this point. How do I mount /data? Can this be done from within CM recovery?
Any advice or things to try would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] someone expalin to me ...

...what this means: "Mount and storage > format /system & format /preload"
does it mean that if i format i will lose every single piece of data on my sd card and internal storage? if so why is this recommended because i imagine it would wipe out the zip that is stored either on external or internal storage, how would i proceed to flash in that situation? is it safe to format mount and storage without worrying about data such as zips and folders that conatin large game files?
please give me a detailed explanation
thanks in advance
Mounts and storage
These let you directly format any of these partitions. This should be used with extreme caution as formatting any of these partitions will result in losing all data on them, especially the boot and system partitions. Formatting the system partition will remove your ROM and leave your phone without an operating system unless you restore or flash another one before rebooting your device.
* Okay if you want to flash a new Rom:
format /system > will format everything in /system
* Okay if coming from TW and switch to AOSP/CM:
format /preload > will format everything in /preload
+++++++++!!!!!!! CAUTION!!!!! +++++++++
format /emmc >
format /sdcard >
format /sd-ext >
Those will wipe your internal and external SD.

it will not wipe your whole internal storage or for short your personal files. /preload & /system are just system folders where your phones stores all the system files system apps, etc, just like "Program Files" in you Windows Computer
Hope that helps
So go ahead and wipe clean before flashing a new rom, just make sure you have rooted your phone already and installed a safe kernel...
Thanks for your help.

[Q] Deleting encrypted data partition

I turned on device encryption in order to play with it (bad mistake). Performance is suckish, it prevents me from flashing anything stored on the internal filesystem (have to use USB dongle), battery life has gone down, etc.
I tried wiping the device by doing a factory reset both in recovery and through settings. Neither method touches the encrypted data partition. Re-flashing the ROM makes no difference. The encrypted partition is extremely resilient
Based on some research, the only known way to wipe the encryption is to revert to stock and use stock recovery to do a factory reset. This sounds insanely cumbersome if all I want to do is wipe a partition. Does anyone know of a better way?
If stock recovery can do a factory wipe without mounting the encrypted partition, it sounds like a feature to add to CWM or TWRP.
Device is ATT HTC One, rooted, S-OFF, Super CID, CWM recovery, Sentinel ROM 4.0.
Many thanks
You can try and flash an ruu? See if that helps and if it doesnt try the stock recovery thing. Never heard of it though.

So, the wipe of TWRP didn't removed the encryption like it say this when you will wipe?
Strange
However, flash the stock recovery and do a factory reset like you said, and see if it work..
you can do it via TWRP just make sure the rm -rf mode is disabled in settings... Or maybe in fastboot... Just type
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
Or another perhaps is ask someone to create a nand dump of their user data partition and use "dd" to write it on your own.
Problem Solved!
Eureka!!!!
I was playing with CWM and figured it out. In the "mounts and storage" tab, if you select "format /data" it fails with an error that it can't mount the volume.
If you select "format /data and /data/media" it works like a charm. For some reason, it performs the format operation on the raw partition while the prior option tried to mount it first.
Back in business
Thanks RootShot ["format /data ¨in advanced wipe first¨ and format/data ¨& write yes in second¨ " ] did the trick and saved my phone back to work ...
