Hey guys,
Im planning to unlock my bootloader to flash some AOSP like CM on my Xperia Z1.
Now I want to know if I flash CM11 M11, will camera work and how is the quality of images shot with it?
And if I want to relock my bootloader I just have to restore TA on the firmware the backup was done, right?
And is the risk of bricking my phone by restoring TA really that high how some people claim???
thanks in advance
mischa_martin
Yes the camera will work, In my opinion the quality is better on AOSP with better noise reduction, as well as complete absence of purple fuzziness. Just make sure to use the Z1 camera fix app and your good to go ( the camera will work without it but may freeze requiring a reboot to fix). As for the TA backup, restore it on the firmware you were on following the correct steps you shouldn't encounter any problems. Just make sure to have multiple backups of the TA backup. and discard any if they get corrupt. AS A CORRUPT TA WILL MOST LIKELY BRICK YOUR PHONE!!
but all in all I doubt you will ever feel the need to re lock your boot loader, unless servicing the phone. Hope I helped Happy Flashing !
Yes, the Google camera does have less noise than the Sony camera, however the 'half press' to focus doesn't work.
Also when your phone is on sleep, pressing the camera button will only take you to the lockscreen, not to the camera.

Im gonna take another backup on clean .108 rooted firmware just to be sure.
And I´ve never got any corrupt one. Integrity check was passed always.

The camera shortcut key isn't such a big deal, and whenever you turn on the phone it still launches the camera. As for half press to focus, true it doesn't work with Google camera but it does with the cyanogenmod camera and many many others, like dslr camera, oneplus one camera etc.

cool I recommend dslr camera it is a few bucks in the play store, but it is well worth it and takes excellent photos with half press to focus working. If dslr camera is not your thing try the oneplus camera you can test both out on official sony firmware

Im usually using snap camera if im not on stock roms.
I installed CM and PA. Both seem to be laggy in terms of scrolling.
Do you experience such or other problems too?
If no, could you recommend me a good rom??
thanks in advance

Ok, I know this ROM from my previous devices. Will check this out on this one
But do you have any problems with aosp roms?
And which kernel are you using?
I use the default liquid smooth kernel, it works best. Not really anything to complain you can improve the audio fidelity by cranking up the volume, by editing /system/etc/mixer_paths.XML.
Meaning CM Rom has better camera than stock?

I've run a search and can't find a concrete IncS specific (or otherwise Sense related) answer.
I went about installing Cyanogenmod 7 on my Incredible S and it worked wonderfully save for the camera application. The refresh rate on the preview was horribly low and there was significant lag compared to while on Sense.
I'm aware that the Sense apk cannot be used on non-Sense ROMs. I'm curious to know what other IncS owners running Cyanogenmod 7 do in regard to camera functionality. I've since hopped back over to Virtuous but would like to use Cyanogenmod again if I could sort out the camera issue.
Thanks guys.
There is a miui camera that significantly improves the camera functionality.
I posted it in general, in the cm7.thread in here

I've been trying to fix this for a while and have found no solution. MIUI camera, FX camera, and Tiny Photo are are a few options (but I agree about MIUI - doesn't fix anything).
Question - do you find when you're taking a picture from a different app it works ok? When I use the camera app I get the noise, but if I use WhatsApp for instance take a picture and attach is, I find there's no noise.
I don't think the stock cyanogenmod camera is setting the iso properly, I've tried it on auto, and on every other setting, but the resulting photos all seem to come out the same, with lots of noise.

It works better in certain situations for some reason. Sometimes lots of grain, sometimes none. But my main point is - it doesn't compare to Sense in any way, from quality to UI and back..a lot of room for improvement
This problem had been discussed over and over again. The only way to fix it is to find someone with knowledge in programming and digital camera programming to decipher the code in the sense version of the camera software.
Well I just got back from my international holiday trip and not totally impressed
The phone worked fine with the international sim card, hate that I can't see what's downloading in the background (google sync, android stuff), because my credit was running out fast and all I used was facebook which was free on the carrier. (social networking)
Also, camera took quite good photos but not as good as the sense. I love how it did widescreen photos rather than just a box size. Also I found my battery died a lot when I wanted to use it.. sitting by the pool and surfing facebook for 1h would use about half the battery. and can't put tiamat on my phone either.
so right now my phone is just sitting in my drawer, because my family member gave me their old iphone and find it more reliable for the time being
I just can't get used to android after having it for over a month, must just be me. I'm not giving up though. Maybe next step is to try another ROM.
Why didn't you turn off data and auto sync?
You seem like the iPhone type lol

An hour of constant internet for me uses 15 percent battery approximately. (screen on the entire time)
I consider that pretty good

Well, I had an international sim with internet so no reason to turn off data, and would prefer auto sync the same as back home. everything was off except facebook updates.
Also on cyanogenmod, camera is good and clear but doesn't go in widescreen like stock ROM does (I really want to go back to stock but i cant ) and no photo editing effects built in on cyanogenmod. hmm.

My miui camera went nuts today. I can only see the image on half of the screen while taking pictures. It's like the menu area is unwilling to release its reserved screen area.

E: the problem was caused by Crystal theme.
Hi, after 12 hours of bricking and unbricking my phone and forgetting to save TA partition I have successfully got my phone working again with the custom ROM installed and semi working.
The main reason I wanted it was to get my camera working on 20MP with superior auto. However when I have taken photos on superior auto I am getting 8MP photos instead of 20MP. When installing the ROM I did choose th 20MP mod and have seen the mod is there via the security app but still struggle to get the camera to take 20MP on auto.
I would have liked to post this message in the correct post in the iHackers thread but the forum would rather I spam 10 posts before they allow me to post in there... Strange if you ask me as I do not have time to spam 10 posts, I would however stick around after this problem is resolved as I have just got into Android phones after finally leaving apple... :S
Does anyone else have the Z1 with this ROM and having the same issue?
PS. I forgot to save the TA partition like a NOOB! BUT every app is working fine except Wisepilot for Xperia, which installs but has asked me to pay for the features I am supposed to already have. I suspect this is due to the missing DRM files.
I know there is no way to get DRM back but what if I sent the phone to Sony and asked to pay to get them back, is that a possibility?
To recap:
1: How to get 20MP on superior auto...
2. Wisepilot for Xperia, does it work for free on this ROM?
3. Will Sony fix DRM for cash? If not, is there a way around this? Insurance?
Thanks.

You have just 2 options to get 20mp in Superior Auto, 1 flash the VodafoneUK FTF 4.3 from HERE or use this Xposed HERE

Ask them how this will cost you because nobody did this before and maybe is not worth to do it because the phone working properly anyway.
There is no way around to get back your DRM keys and no Warranty too now so anything you will have with your phone, you have to pay.
If you installed xposed module in flashing process then you have it already and there's no need to install it again.
Go to settings/IHackers/Xposed framework and enable module.
Restart and that's it.
If it still won't work, go again in settings/iHackers/xposed framework and reinstall xposed framework again.
After every change (modules, xposed framework) you have to restart your device.

I have the same problem. I forgot to backup the TA partition and now suffering for losing those drm keys. The x reality engine is not functioning and i need that to watch movie. So sad.(still finding the solution how to gain back those drm.keys)
And then i did install ihackers rom to gain superior 20mp but its useless. 20mp is even worse when it comes to low light condition. so i disabled it. Not happy with this.
The same here- dissapointed and regret Bootunlock- didnt actually now that would happen

It is not possible to restore the TA partition and keep the bootloader unlocked. As mentioned in the post above me it is possible to regain DRM functionality on a stock ROM through that mod. Do note that this is only for stock ROM, it probably won't work or do anything on an AOSP based ROM.
I hope we have answered your questions

Isn't Carbon ROM CM based? I wonder cause I too am looking at best path forward. IF CM based, my understanding is all camera apps will give a fish eye lens effect. I notice it all the time with any vertical lines not directly centered. I had to go back to stock rooted and re-lock bootloader. There's a ROM I'm using now called AIO (All in one, with heavy de-bloat and xposed already installed). Seems pretty good, except now I cannot install my banking apps.
I'm beginning to wonder if it's now no longer worth rooting. Separate discussion, I know.
there is no fish eye effect i can see. the camera quality is good without low light, but tbh with low light its unbearable . the noise is horrible, cant even take a selfie in remotely low light

Can anyone please tell me what's the difference between the current ( EMUI 9.1) camera version and this one? Does it offer 50x zo etc?
Only 10x zoom max with last fw. Apparently they only let the same camera do 30x zoom on the Mate 20 series. Probably artificial limitation to make the newer phone more appealing...

Need to tell you all I`ve got CLT-L29 with 9.1.0.328 - and the camera got Terrible! Night-mode is atrocious, and day-time shooting worsened. Night mode now makes flat, ugly, no-life-basic photos (doesn`t matter if vivid or whatever colour mode is used), day-time pictures are dark, with worse dynamic range then before. I tried everything to go back to previous version - not possible in my experience. If anyone succeeded in downgrading the camera app version, or installing an older one, PLEASE let me know how. My phone is not rooted - cant find a way to unlock the bootloader. (I read about a possible way with disassembling the phone, but I wouldn`t do that to it).
Cheers,
P.S. - If you have a P20 Pro with older android version - do not update! - it will destroy your camera (basically the only thing you bought the phone for).
I have no issue with 328 firmware emui 9.1 and the cam, how I am in 345 firmware with a new version of camera app, working fine, you can make a factory reset or simply reset the camera app settings

You haven`t noticed. They made it gradually worse - with 8.1 it was so much better in regards of color depth, dynamic range, contrast setting, night mode contrast, light sensitivity - everything, by the time they made 9.1... it is nothing of the kind. BTW this issue is noted, A1 representative I spoke to, said Huawei were "aware" of the night-mode problem, and "wold fix it" in the next generation of updates. But I as a very keen photo-maniac, who bought this phone precisely for the camera, noticed it getting worse by every update, so I don`t truly believe they will fix it. When with 8.1 p20pro was hands down the low-light monster and had outstanding color depth, which the p30pro couldn`t reach because it lacks the monochrome camera (same goes for the nigh-mode). So even if they do something about the night-mode in future updates, for it would be made so that the camera will be smudged to produce p30pro-like (but blurrier) photos.
Otherwise - I made factory reset, probably 10 times since then, even found a way to delete the camera app with adb run tool, installed the latest version from apk-mirror - still the same (of course). Then I factory reset the phone again and again and again...
So please, when citing me, please cite me only if you found a way to answer my query and you personally managed to install a workingly-run 8.1 camera version, please. Thank you so much for your understanding and willingness to help!
Cheers!

Interesting. What is your p20p model: C432 or C7..?
I answer you in the right way with the typical issues with the software and the cam, I don't care how many times you made factory reset, I see improvements in the cam with emui9.1, maybe your cam or phone is damage, or whatever,

Hi All,
Phone : Nokia 8 Sirocco
I used to have a working Google cam mod on my phone until the Andriod 10. Now none of the mods I install works! It just crashes.
Does anyone know which works on this!?
Yes, me too... Please, help !
With killercam v1, just video work...
HAL3 is disabled
Hello,
It seems that HAL3 support for Camera is missing from the Android 10 build. I've send an email to Nokia support today. Until it is fixed, and you(generally speaking) are still on Android 9, and use Gcam mod, stay away from the update.
I hope problem with GCam will be resolved soon.
They disabled Raw with this Android 10 update.
We paid premium so we could have less quality camera, and camera app options than mid-range Nokia's ?
Remember, no Lightroom raw capture and edit possible either.
Same here, I have tried lots of Gcams and all not working, except the stock one from Play Store, but are missing important feature like night mode....

The posted solution results in a working GCam but I would not agree that HDR works. Yes, the menu is active and you can toggle the feature on but there is no difference in the photos at all (at least to my eye). I suppose that the app is taking normal snaps without HDR, regardless of the chosen mode.

The posted solution results in a working GCam but I would not agree that HDR works. Yes, the menu is active and you can toggle the feature on but there is no difference in the photos at all (at least to my eye). I suppose that the app is taking normal snaps without HDR, regardless of the chosen mode.

I guess the only way is to root the phone and enable Camera2 API. (HAL3) .

I really hope MHD fixes it, if not, it was my last Nokia. I understand if you have to root a budget phone. But if I pay close to premium price, I also expect the software to work, without me touching it.
No HDR, broken glance screen, broken play store, increased battery drainage, worse wifi connection. It went from a phone I was really happy with, to a phone that pisses me off every day.
Rant end. Thanks for the suggestion but I'm gonna wait. Have a nice day!

I contacted them and said that would raise the issue further , but needs more users to complain to them in order to fix this.
First picture is Sirocco and second is 7 Plus both on Android 10,where on Sirocco RAW capture is disabled and enabled on 7 Plus.

I also asked, and the German Nokia support said that they are aware of the issue and would try to get it sorted out with another security update as quickly as possible

I wanna know the method you used to unlock it ?
I am gonna try to enable the RAW Capture
I have unlocked it through Hikari Calyx. I have paid 9$ (41 Ron). He accessed my PC through Team Viewer and used a virtual USB to attach a smartcard. With that he reflashed my phone with android 9 (but you can choose 8 also) and unlocked the BL.
Everything was done within 24 hours.
This was my first phone with a unlockable BL and i have missed a lot having root on my phone. Now with root is like i'm having a new phone
P.s. : After unlocking the BL you can OTA upgrade to 10 if you wish but i do not see the reason. 9 has everything and none of the issues of 10.
With 10 google disabled ACR functionality.
HDR api disabled by HMB
Huge battery drain (do not know the reason)
A2dp issues
Etc..
Although with root you can fix all the issues i rather not have them in the first place. Therefore i will stay on 9 at least until a good stable 10 comes out of HMD global.
