I have had a strange thing happen occassionally when I reboot my phone. it has happened after restoring to stock using ODIN - it has also happened when flashing a custom ROM,
When the phone boots up I see an error message saying something about a text message could not be sent - to use a valid short code or ten digit number - when I look at waht number it was being sent to - the number is 1121611611
It is very strange - I wasn't sending a text message when this happens - it just happens when the phone reboots - and not all the time - just occasionally -
I am using an ATT SIM Card on a TMOBILE PHONE - and when I did a GOOGLE search for that number - I saw mentions of APPLE phones having issues and something about people on Verizon phones -
If I try to send text messages - no problem - everything works fine.
Does anyone know anything about this and what if anything can I do to make it stop happening?
Very strange indeed....
How to stop this
No responses to my question yestreday - did a little more reseach and while I still don't know WHY it happens - I think the fix for this (in case anyone in the future has this problem and comes accross this thread) is to just send a valid text number to any one in your phone book - say hi to somone you know - just send a real text message that is to a working number - apparently once you send a real text message to someone - this stops and won't happen anymore.
To be honest the whole thing is weird to me - I wish I knew why it happens - but for what it;'s worth - since I sent a text message yesterday after seeing this error message - the error message has stopped.
Im having the exact same issue.. im using tmobile n4 on att network. I tried sending a text to sum1 in my contacts but on reboot i got the same message again from 121611611. Anyone got a solution???
That weird: 112 that is universal emergency number in all gsm phones and 611 is provider service call center

It's the T-mobile visual voicemail app. I'm on AT&T with the T-mobile Note4 and had this problem as well. With root, you'll need to delete the app from System/App and System/priv-app. Updates might be in Data/App too.
Basically nuke any copies of the T-mob VVM apk and you'll stop getting these messages.

thank you so much. i dont have a note 4 i have a tmobile lg g3 on at&t network and after restoring my stock backup i was getting this invalid text going out after every reboot. i treat my phone like my computer so i reboot it every day. this invalid text is really annoying. after trying your suggestion i no longer get this stupid invalid text message. instead of deleting the visual voicemail app i just decided to freeze it and that worked. thank you again.

In the body of the message you will note a short message code of 64743. What I did to stop receiving texts was to send 'STOP' to 64743 using my normal SMS application.
I received verification the service was stopped and haven't gotten the error +1121611611 message since.

I tried a restart this morning and the message came back.
What I have done so far is rooted the phone with towelroot, installed ES file manager and removed both MetroPcs visual voice mail apps. The message still comes back after a restart.
I'll try this method next.

Rooting the phone, installing ES File Explorer and removing all visual voice mail references fixed the issue. It was a little different on my LG F6 than just removing the files from system/.... but the basic idea was the same.

I cannot seem to send sms messages when I install handcent on this phone. Mms work fine, and I can receive all day. Not sure why, has anyone else seen this?

that's interesting cuz i was having similar issues as well.. not all the time, but just had that first occurence yesterday. Have you tried sending a message and waiting for the "spinning" timer disappear before exiting the convo?
I have used handcent since day one with the phone and have had no issues. Im not sure what may be wrong with yours but maybe wait until the circle stops spinning like ^^ said

Yeah, I have. It works fine on my gf fascinate, but not mine. Funny thing is, I've gone all the way back to stock and still won't work. Maybe a network profile thing.

I have a similar problem except SMS works fine for me but I cannot receive MMS messages. I can send MMS fine though... I hope 2.2 will fix it.
Daswolven,
Aren't you the same person that posted that thread about removing junk apps? I think some of those VZWSMS apk's you deleted might be affecting your ability to text because I removed everything VZW.apk and had too many issues with texting such as receiving the same message 30x's, people receiving an error message saying I never received their message even though I did, etc... So I reflashed an ODIN file and only removed the obvious apps such as Bing, Blockbuster, etc. Phone has been perfect with handcent since then. The stock messaging app will not tell you which exact message failed to be sent which is why I went with handcent.
ithecho84 ,
Contact tech support and have the "flush" out your cell number. I had the same problem with my DROID and they did something to the switch in the network and I have never had an issue with MMS ever again.

I am the same person.
I also know exactly what the apps I remove do.
None of the apps I removed affect sms to cause the issues I am having.
My g/f has the same phone. I have removed the same apps on hers, she doesn't have the issues.
I have a buddy with a droid incredible on CM6, he flashed a new radio and couldn't text his GF, but only her.
I have another friend with a Droid2 who cannot use handcent.
The handcent boards have posts from people on every network with various phone who have various issues.
I never had a problem with handcent on my N1.
So then, Mr. Logic boy. Put that together for me with the pieces I have given you.
let me know what you come up with.
P.S.: You may have missed the "I went back to stock and it still didn't work" part of This Thread.
Make sure the stock Mms.apk app is there, reboot and give it a try. I also saw a few days ago you moved the sns apps off - out of curiosity, do you know what these do? For some reason I left them in there. I know you said you went back to stock and all, but I had some issues when I tried to get rid of the stock Mms.apk. That's all I can think of. Outside of that, try doing a logcat while sending a text to see what the logs say.

The sns enable the syncing with the integrated Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace clients into your address book and the TouchWiz widgets. I have no use for these, as to me it's unnecessary contact clutter, and sync drain to boot.
The stock Mms app can be replaced, and has been, but I use the stock for the ability to select multiple recipients which is absent in the Android stock mms.
I haven't figured out all the differences between the Verizon and T-mo network stuff yet, but I will do some research as I have time, because I am 90% sure my problem lies there. The tech support I've been able to get through to seems uninterested in any kind of in depth troubleshooting, instead urging me to replace the handset, which I will not do.
I had same issue and I uninstall and put it back without using the back up data from a back up . Worked great .

SMS Issues
If you look at your contacts and see an + in front Example (+1-555-555-5555) it will not send. Im coming from GSM service so I had to re-edit all my contacts and remove all the + symbol from the front. It worked for me. Hope this helps with any SMS issues not just directly to Handcent.

I was wondering if you resolved your problem with Handcent? I have a problem now where if I try and attach a picture to a mms directly from the camera Handcent force closes. I tried the same thing with the stock MMS and same result. I went to Rom Manager and downloaded the MMS.apk for the ROM that I am running. I tried it again on Handcent, same result, but I was able to do it from the stock MMS I downloaded. I personally like all the options that Handcent has and would like to know if you have any suggestions regarding my problem.
Yeppers. Whatever the issue was stopped after I changed my methods of building from stock a bit.
Never managed to pin point it.

I'm confused by the notes about the "+" in front of phone numbers? Why would you have a "+" like that, and what does that have to do with GSM? Furthermore, can you send a text to these numbers with the stock Messaging app, but NOT Handcent? Or does it work in neither? Thanks.
If you find a specific, reproduceable issue with Handcent though, especially if you know the cause, let me know if you want, because I've been working with one of the developers (or the developer, I'm not sure) - Jack, directly and frequently. I'm the one that cleaned up the Handcent forums to get rid of all the spam threads/users recently (if you've ever been there, you'll know how horrible it was prior), and helped him get it changed over to SMF from phpbb2, etc. I'm also a mod on the forums there, and I've been testing a few bugs directly with him, on beta builds of Handcent. So I can certainly bring something to his attention directly if it warrants it.
I'm not sure if this is the relevant forum to post in but I'm having an unusual problem with sms. I have a Bell galaxy s but I've now moved to the U.K. and signed up with O2. Whenever I receive a text from O2 (i.e. the message telling me my balance after I top up), I get the following error message: 'The application Messaging (process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.'
I have tried clearing the memory from the app (although, the cache is always 0.00 for some reason) as well as a factory reset. I've also wiped and loaded Doc's new froyo rom for the bell galaxy s. None of this has rectified the problem - I still always get the force close message after receiving a sms directly from the O2 network - the worst part is that I can't even see the message.
On the rare occasion, a few of my friends have sent me a text that I don't receive (but in this case, I don't receive the force close message - nothing happens at all).
I can send messages with no problem.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Thanks

I have a new device and i get a message that reads, there is a delay in setting up your voicemail. setup will complete when this message is delivered. if i go into voicemail and click menu, i have an option for undelivered. in there it says activation message. if i click menu and select retry sending all a message pops telling me that the message will be delivered when data services become available which isnt right cause i always have data. or it tells me that there is a delay in setting up your voicemail. your message will be delivered once this step is complete.

You can use Wifi to activate voicemail. I have the same app on my Evo.
Also, try updating your data profile. Go to Settings -> System Updates -> Update Profile. See if that fixes it for you afterwards.

If you really want visual voicemail and don't care if it's Sprint or not, download Google Voice and activate voicemail on it. You need a Google account (it's free). It's nice because you can manage your voicemail online. You can download it, archive it, forward it, etc. Works just as well, if not better. You can set different greetings for different people, etc. Give it a try.
i tried this too
http://www.evo4gforum.net/troubleshooting-htc-evo-4g/visual-voicemail-isnt-working/
that wont work. just tells me that there are messages waiting to be delivered when i compose and attempt to send them.
I had a similar problem... what seemed to work to me was to press menu in VVM and compose a message to [email protected]. Make sure you have either wifi or 3g enabled and make the message over 25 seconds. Idk why your original activation message is not sending but this may help fix your problem.
edit... i just saw that you already tried this so the only other thing i can think of is to try to take it to a sprint store

ive got it rooted and junk, i really dont want to reset this thing to deal with those...'people that dont know', for lack of a better term.
there has to be a way to fix this. i just tried sending a longer message to [email protected] tells me there are two messages awaiting delivery.
Don't know if you are aware, but Sprint recently updated the VVM software to version T.5.1.0.48 (here in TX it was updated the last week of October). Note that Sprint CSR will not be able to help you reset it unless you are on a Sense ROM. Period.
Two options to fix on your non-Sense ROM... there is an updated .apk floating around on these boards (might need to PM someone for it). Get it and install via your file manager.
Or...
Other way is to nandroid your current ROM, then flash a Sense ROM like Fresh's most current. Then, update your PRL and Profile, then go into the VVM and press Menu and update Sprint VVM.
Then, either try to nandroid back to your original ROM and check to see if that does it (haven't tried that, but it might work)... or else... yes, you will need to pull the updated com.coremobility.app.vnotes from the Sense ROM and install the pulled .apk into your new ROM.
Hope this helps.
I have an idea. Try calling 408-970-0000 from your cell phone. It may ask you if you would like to receive sms voice messages. when i call from my phone it says "our records indicate that you are calling from an sms voice messaging enabled phone. if you would like to stop receiving messages press 2" If you changed from a phone that did not support this feature it may ask if you would like to receive messages instead. I am not sure if this will work but it is worth a try
none of this is working. in fact, I called that number and seemingly disabled the feature and there is no option to reenable.
well i did the same and i accidentally disabled but then re-enabled by sending another activation message to the visual voice-mail activation address. if that still does not work p.m me and i will send you the most recent version of VVM and you can flash it to your phone. if that still does not work you may just have to use Google Voice. it is free and i have used it before when i could not get sprint vvm installed and it works great.

ill take the latest version that you have...im willing to try anything. this is a new device and it wouldnt configure even on day one, before I rooted and rom'd it.
Well, i got it.
I thought, 'there has to be a reason Im not receiving these messages.'
I had 9016 included in the 'blocked texts' list. at sprint.com in my account. So my vvm wouldnt send me messages(i had a dozen sitting in there when i called) and I was unable to compose and send.
I removed 9016 from the blocked text list and tested. It worked. Then I added 9016 to the list, and it DID NOT work.
Days of frustration, something so simple.
Thank you, everyone, for your patience and assistance.
Fix
I deleted all the Sprint VM apk's and flashed the attached zip. No more stupid update notification!
EDIT - Opps, posted in wrong thread, but if you have that annoying Mandatory Update Notification, this should clear it.

Could anyone tell me what the visual voice mail activation address is? I've made this same mistake and can't seem to figure out how to re-enable the 9016 text messages and thus re-enable my visual voice mail. Thanks!

I then updated the messenger app as I noticed there was an update available for it. Now when I open the app, it says that it is "fetching conversations." It has been stuck at this screen for over 30 min. I have tried closing the app, restarting the device, anything I could think, but my text messages won't show up. Any advice on how I can fix this?

Did you remove your phone number from the dumb Imessage server so it would actually work on android? Apple used to purposely cause issues when people switched.

I was trying to do this but was not able to receive the code from apple via text. Then i started having the issues with the messenger app. For whatever reason it is not able to pull up my texts. The problem, im guessing, lies within the app.

I'm glad it finally started working for you. Apple likes making things a hassle from past experience. (ITunes music...)
For past week or two I have been having sms issues. Some of my friends send me sms and they dont get through. It not related to specific provider ( I had issues receiving txt from Sprint and T-mobile and also at&t) Any ideas what could be causing random missing texts ?
btw im using google msg app
I'm having this problem as well. It may be related to this -
https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/galaxy-s8-missing-texts/
Also, I was experiencing this on and off on my Note 5 on Sprint.
I tried to use Samsung messaging app but it doesnt send my mms - this sucks
why only some of us have this issue ?
Try the instructions on that site. I also completely removed Android Messages. I'm using Textra right now. Unfortunately, it's intermittent so we can only tweak things and wait and see if it fixes it :/
Check that your Google Messages app isn't being put to sleep by the battery manager:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS8/c...missing_texts_on_s8_all_carriers_all/do2yyh9/
I checked and it was for me. I'll see if this fixes it.
