Just got my note 4... upgrading from a galaxy s3.
I notice on the lower capacitive buttons there are visible lines in front of the lights, same for the top led indicator.
Normal?
Yes.

I'm guessing you got black right?
My last 3 phones have been white and i was planning on a black N4......but once i noticed the choppy look the lines made to the capacitive buttons on the display model, i went with white again. Same lines just not visible due to lighter coloring.
That is the design. It not defective it normal
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Yes I got the black.... it may not be defective but it's annoying!
Thanks for the quick reply!
I'm sending mine back today. Getting a replacement because of the PINK screen that occurs when the light hits the device. I'm getting the White one. Looked at a tmobile store And the black was the same as mine. And the whites WHITE was clearly different than mine. Mine seems brighter but it also has that tint and the my white looks sort of blue.
Sent from another Galaxy! Note the difference!
I got the black and I have the lines too. It's one of the few things I don't like about this phone, it just looks like a manufacturing defector something. It's not enough to make me get the white one though, I had a white iphone and that glaring white border every time I looked at it was too distracting.

I keep hearing this more and more and from my experience it rings true, many of the black notes seem to have purple tint and less overall brightness.....
It has good brightness..the black just has more brighter whites than the white note 4. why? I don't know overall brightness is the same.
Sent from another Galaxy! Note the difference!
The first black one i saw in store was not as bright as my note 3 and the whites were purple/bluish......almost passed on the note till i tried out a different display model a few days later, it then became apparent that there were some notes with the issue and some without....i went with white because of the issue the op is talking about....don't like the lines through capacitives...makes them look choppy

Wow! The pink screen sure is annoying!
I just got my replacement phone from HTC (at&t N1) for my reception / audio issues.
The new screen looks horribly pink - noticeably so.
I think its just luck of the draw with these screens. My first phone had a slight green tint, but was pretty close to natural colors; the replacement is very red'ish tinted. My original phone had an issue with the cpu throttling not working properly any more. the replacement screen causes the grey areas to appear pink/purple'ish. (even the black areas)

This is really bad - I will probably ask for another replacement, especially since the new phone has really bad reconnection issues. QC on the nexus one is just beyond bad! This should NOT happen.
I wonder what percentage of people have this tint problem...
[POLL] do you have the red tinted screen?
If you do not know what I am talking abut, or never noticed it; turn your screen brightness down to its lowest setting and then open up the stock android keyboard. (it becomes most pronounced at brightness settings below 50%) If you have the problem, then the keys an surrounding dark grey will have a red tint to it. The red tint is only an issue for the various shades of grey; black and other colors are not affected. (on my screen anyway, and white may be a bit off as well)
The reason I ask, is that I recently had an issue with my CPU getting stuck at 100% load at random, so I sent in for a replacement. I got the new phone in the mail, and it appears to be a new, or at least a failed/repaired assembly line unit. (received a -04 part number btw)
This thing has a bad red tint to the screen, worse than my GFs nexus which we also received a replacement for. (both replacements had worse red screen) I might could get used to it, but currently it is distracting to no end.
Problem is, is that my original device has seemed to stop getting the random 100% CPU load problem. I wiped and flashed back to shipped ROM and then re-did the update path through to 2.2 build. (completely stock no root or unlocked bootloader) I did have an issue with the CPU getting stuck at 100% after that, until I uninstalled an app and reinstalled it; seems that when switching from this app to another app would cause it to get stuck. So now I am on the fence about wether to keep the new device or the old one; the CPU issue may actually be a hardware issue and come back at random sometime, or it may not.
edit: BTW is there a way to edit the poll? Iy seems that some have the tint issue at first and then it gets better. I would like to add that option.
edit 2: Pictures of the new and old devices. If you can also see my trackball is also sunk in too deep.
New on left, old on right.
No red tint on mine.
none on mine either
The first couple weeks with my nexus it had a purple tint at the lowest brightness. This is now gone.

So it got better? This could explain why the GFs screen has much less red tint than the new devices. Just sucks that my original phone is near perfect in the color area.
As far as it being purple tint, the darker colors tinted with red would appear purple-ish. The only colors I have noticed being "off" was grays and brown. (when displaying full screen single colors)
easiest test is to go to htc's website, ash/grey deigns of the site are in pinkish tint. Which is the case for me and as well as my friends, he is on Tmobile, I'm on At&T. I think this is a problem in the newer batchs of nexus. I bought mine this April.
In any case, it doesnt bother me, not a deal breaker considering I have Flash 10.1 on my phone
I would say majority of the recent owners from last 4-6months.

I bought my nexus at the tail end on January. (around the 25th) I bought the GFs nexus a few days later. (she has the tint issue)
And I added pics in one of my prior posts.
Really would like to edit this poll; add about the self fixing and about when you bought/received your device.
This poll will determine if I bother with having a third replacement sent out. I'm also running a solid red screen at full brightness for about an hour, see if that helps take out some of the red's over saturation. It affects yellows as well, I just noticed.
I ordered my Nexus when it was released and also had a purplish tint when brightness was down. I think androidandme did an article about it... maybe. Anyway it didn't bother me because I always leave it on full brightness anyway. Just checked it out on low brightness for the first time since I got it and I can confirm that the tint went away.
There is a stickied thread in the Desire forum about screens with a pink tint, might be worth reading if you have it. No idea what's in it though

I agree it is something to do with the type of display, but it seems that many do not have this issue; my first device did not. If I had always had the issue, I would not be noticing it now, but the difference is jarring.
I'm tempted to be careful with the "void" stickers and swapping the displays out myself.
Leaving the solid color running helped a small bit, but not enough to really matter.

I don't notice the tint as much unless I have the two phones side by side; though I still see it. As you can see by the pics I posted on the first page of this thread, the difference is huge.
Hi Guys,
After hearing so much problems with the Note screen, I had another good look of mine tonight and found these weird looking white lines/dots at the bottom left of my screen.
Are these dead pixels or stuff underneath the screen?
HELP Please.....might have to get an exchange with handtec...so much hassles....
Those look like stuck pixels to me.

You have taken a pic with the default scratch guard on just remove and slightly clean the screen and see if it goes away, but most probably its 2 dead pixels, mine 1st one had 1. Quality issues with samsung !

I'm pretty sure it's not between the screen and the default protector....where did you buy yours from?
Seriously...I'm very disappointed with Samsung now....I mean, I have heard many people having problems with their screens, but never thought I would get one of them defected ones....
Looks like dead/stuck pixels I'm afraid.
Can you get a macro shot? It's kind of hard to tell without a closer view. When I've had stuck/dead pixels in the past, they've always been very discrete, tiny dots without any haze or blur, which it looks like yours has. I also wonder if it's something to do with the screen protection film. When you do a macro shot will you lift it and clean the screen?
Here....I have lifted up the screen protector....I didn't take off the screen protector was because maybe if I didn't handtec might exchange me the phone quicker....but what the heck...I need to be sure anyways...so here are the pictures.
Man.....so much trouble for this phone....very disappointed with the build quality of the screen now....
Now I will have to wait for a while to get my exchanged new phone ....
Any ideas how long it might take? I read on handtec that if the item is returned after 10 days...it will go under warranty and so does that mean they won't exchange my phone straight away??? Anyone got any experience with them??

nuh...I have tried to count them...there are a least 4 dots plus a line....very strange....they are also bright green instead of being white.....can't see them with the black background....
Shows you how bad of quality the phone I got....
I am very surprised I have not noticed them before.
Just found out online...there is a difference between stuck and dead pixels, and apparently stuck pixels can possibly be fixed yourself...might give it a try....
nuh...none of the apps seem to work
Been using JScreenFix for the phone for about half a day....just flashing the screen.....
I think the pixels have gotten a bit darker......don't know if it's my eyes playing tricks on me or not....but will continue to flash the screen for the rest of the day and then check it again tonight....hopefully then will be gone
The thing I don't really get is why the green dots (more than 3 of them) would only appear on Green, White and Grey backgrounds, and not appear on the Red, Blue and Black Backgrounds.....Anyone got any ideas?
because every colour of the spectrum uses green except for red, blue and some combination of red blue
black is when the screen is off

Hi there. I just bought the Note few days ago and I can confirm that I have the EXACT problem as yours. Except mine is just a dot. It's like a pixel that seems to be the only brighter pixel when the screen displays full green, white or grey background (specifically used the LCD test *#0*# & Burn-In Tester Pro app).
I assume that it is a stuck or a hot pixel simply because.. it lights up. Unlike dead pixel is like.. a dead bulb/pixel (Assumptions. HEHE.)
Actually on the day that I bought the Galaxy Note, I was really careful. I even dialed the *#0*# LCD TEST at the shop to look out for screen defects. It was FLAWLESS. So I bought it. And I have this habit to look out for defects even after purchase, so I always go to the LCD Test and Burn-In Tester Pro app to check, and is still perfect.
Not until, last night, I dialed *#0*# and hit "Black (Vibrate)" with the intention to check for the "blemishes/blobs" in a totally dark room. It was only apparent after my eyes had adjusted to the darkness and I do see the not so obvious blobs. So after noticing that, it didn't bother me so I happily watched an Blu-Ray quality video (Despicable Me) and that's when I noticed the BRIGHT pixel which I assume it to be a STUCK/HOT pixel. I hope it is just a stuck pixel which hopefully can be fixed over time. Don't know about hot pixels..
Right now I'm playing a Full HD video of a downloaded YouTube video called Pixel Fix, on loop, with Video Brightness set to full. My instinct says to try it out but i do know that after awhile, since it's an AMOLED technology, colors could be darker over time as the pixels slowly 'burn-out'.
AND if it doesn't work, I might try to turn off the phone and leave it somewhere really cool/chilled. And switch it on after awhile when it reaches room temperature. I read it somewhere that it works to remove stuck pixels. They put their phones in a fridge in a wrapping and they said it worked. I forgot though where I read it from.
Oh, it's this one --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21025093
Someone managed to fix a dead pixel. Hmm, but it's a phone with an LCD screen. Nyeh.
Good luck to us. Man, it was only few days ago when I bought the Note. *sniffs*
Seems quiet here. Seems like not many people have or aware of this bright spot defect.
But I found this which seems to concern about the matter. http://www.patentgenius.com/patent/7955151.html
I guess it gives some idea of what it really is. Cheers.
And I am gonna let this 'problem' go this time cos it's so small but I do hope that it won't get any worse. Or if it fixes itself that would be a miracle

For a few months now i've been observeing some weird darker vertical stripes on my screen. I see them only when in gray screens(like the stock pulldown menu)
So....it's this some kind of defect of the amoled screens? i have the phone for one year now.
You sure it isn't just the wire running underneath the screen?
haaaa? no! i'm sure! i'm talking about lots of stripes 2mm's distant. and i've just been seeing them for a couple of months. so there's no wire involved
Yeah it's typical for OLED screens by the looks of things,
I am also starting to get those issues on my screen too
I noticed this problem yesterday :/ I have strange spots(darker than surroundings) in left to corner. I can see it only in grey color. Unfortunately ICS's colors are mostly grey
Is there any way to fix it excepting warranty?
that's not too good. this is definitely gonna influence my decision when i will buy a new phone.
Just thought I'd pipe up with my SGS which the screen (I believe is dying) I often get the lines in the OP but they're on the green side of the display meaning the green in the pixels are starting to burn in/out also I have a green gradient effect when it comes to the backlighting...when I'm lucky enough to get colour.
This however will not change my mind that I prefer SAMOLED display... I just need to replace my screen and I'm laughing. I like the ol' phone to much and I'm too poor to get a Galaxy Nexus so I'll wait for the SGSIII
I just got my Nexus 6 today and not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me or not. I can see a discoloration of white colors when the brightness is turned down, and if there is a white background the right side of the screen looks slightly darker than the right side.
Just checking to see if this is just my screen or did they intend a slight difference there.
The right side of this guy's screen was a bit darker

haha I just came to point that out!
This seems to be a common issue with AMOLED displays.
I went to the tmobile store to get a nano sim card and the nexus 6 display unit had the exact same issue.
erica griffin mentions the same issue with her note 4 at around the 20min mark.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OyNWrQJzMY&list=UUB2527zGV3A0Km_quJiUaeQ&spfreload=10
You can exchange your phone, but there's no guarantee you'll get a better display.
I would just live with it if its not too bad as this is just a characteristic of AMOLED screens.
It's not bad, I can only notice it with a white background and when the brightness is lowered. With color it looks fine.
I seen the other thread, my screen still works just the color looks a little off.

Anyone else's display seem to have a yellowish tint? Mine seems very yellow looking at it straight on. But when I look at it angled either from the bottom or top it looks perfectly white with just a slight bluish tint. Either way it looks much better than yellow.
So what I'm trying to figure out is of I got a bad unit and if I should go get a new one. Only reason I am even considering not exchanging is the whole "scratchgate" bs.
Anyone care to weigh in?

Comparing mine next to my LG g3 I noticed a yellow tint as well. Not a deal breaker for me as I rarely compare screen to screen but I've owned a gs2,gs3, and gs4 and there is always some yellowish tint discussion that pops up. You can keep exchanging until you get a more bluish tone but I don't have the energy any more lol. Screen still looks great to me!!
Blame AMOLED tech. Your options right now are a slightly yellow screen with generally more accurate color reproduction or a slightly blue screen with less accurate overall color reproduction but mildly more pleasant whites (to most people).
It wouldn't be a big deal but its really bad because its centered. By that I mean when I look at all the different sides from straight on I can tell they are more blueish and it makes the center look even more yellowed. I realize the amoleds generally run warmer in tone but it seems to me that the whole screen should at least carry the same tone from the same angle. Obviously because of the curved nature the color will shift on the actual edges of the screen but everything else ought to be the same color/tone.
Or am I totally off base here?

Doesn't really answer the question which is...
A: is it possible that my display is defective since it really only shows a warm yellow tone in the center most portion of the screen?
B: is this going to be true for all sgs6e's or is there a chance of having one where the tone is the same throughout the entire display face.
I understand color shifting and how is inevitable, but I would at least like my screen to have the same tone from top to bottom (obviously the edges will have a different tone done they are being seen at an angle when viewing the phone head on) rather than Top:Cold Middle:Warm Bottom:Cold

Just turned on Adaptive Display which seems to make the whole screen more uniform in tone temperature however angles are still a bit of a..... well..... bi*** because they remind me of the pure white coloring I've grown to know so well. But I suppose this is far more livable than before which was almost unbearable (thanks OCD).
May still try to swap for a new unit in a week or so just to see if anything has changed.

I have s6 edge too (32gigs black) (Indian Variant) and I also have the same problem. Coming from note 4 so this yellowish tint really is deal breaker for me!
you sure it isnt the adaptive screen setting?
what I found is if you are using the adaptive screen mode and reading a webpage w/ lots of text, it sometimes will change the tint to warmer which ends up with a yellowish screen instead of white, which may cause you to think that the screen is yellow (thats what I thought the first time I saw it)
try to change the screen type to some other settings and see if that get you the white color?
I am having the same problem. I know it's a defective screen because I have two S6 Edges here.
My black sapphire 32 gb has a white screen
My new gold platinum 64 gb has a yellow screen and its very annoying. I'm probably gonna exchange it

Hello . Please do tell if you use a screen protector film or glass . Cause i have the exact same problem and everybody saye it's the protector but i dont think so . It happend after a bootloop and because the phone turned too hot before i download the stock rom i decided to put it in refrigerator. Battey ran out and when It realized it the phone was too cold maybe next to 0 degree . After the flash was done I noticed the color has changed . So I'm kinda unsure
