Hey all.
So, i have a rooted z1 (rooted via towelroot), I installed Dual Recovery (using "Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.7.154-BETA" file), unlocked the bootloader, (backed my Rom using CWM) and have installed a Custom Rom (Paranoid Android).
The Rom is awesome, but I have tried to load my previous Stock Rom back - so that i know the process just in case.
CWM isn't able to mount my memory card. From what i can see this is a very common problem and there are lots of device specific variations of CWM to install that get around this, however they all come with heavy warnings about how they are made for Device A and should not be used on Device Z.
Some users have suggested that TWRP should be able to see the back up file and install from there, however, I cannot boot into TWRP. I've gone through NDRUtils and have tried the different button combinations at start up, all of it takes me to CWM only. I've looked back about Dual recovery and it says that i should have used the Dual Recovery file after flashing my Rom, which i did not do as i was to excited to get PA on my phone.
I'm probably doing something daft, but if someone has any similar experience I'd be grateful for the knowledge.
Can't you just flash the dual recovery again then put into twrp using power + vol down?
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Free mobile app
Thank you for the suggestion. I've tried that and it still just boots to cwm. I've tried pressing the vol down once, and I've tried hammering it repeatedly when turning on as well.
You do know you can't restore a cwm backup via twrp? They are not compatible

Yeah, I figured that was the case, but at the moment I can't use the back up on cwm anyway as it doesn't Mount the SD card. I tried moving the back up on to the internal memory, no luck .

Try using a third party sd card mounter, or take the sd card out and put it into a sd card reader, then copy the backup to your PC then move it to your phones internal storage :clockworckmod/backups and restore it from there.
I'm not really able to help anymore, my phone has just died an hour ago and will be sent away tomorrow :crying:

Alright, I recently factory reset my rooted and CWM'd Revolution and I was getting immediate boots into CWM recovery. I followed the steps outlined http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161537, and I was able to successfully boot to the LG screen. Here in lies the problem, it is now infinitely bootlooping... it stays on the LG screen indefinitely. I have left it lit for hours at a time, no luck. I have googled for hours and found nothing. Also, factory resets in CWM don't give a completed script, but recovery just resets and I have no idea if anything was actually erased, but I do know it still doesn't work.
So, is there anyway to save my phone?
quick recap:
1. phone is rooted and has CWM installed.
2. it is bootlooping.
please help!!!
edit: with some good camera work, I was able to capture the error string at the end of the factory reset:
E:format_volume: make_ext4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
then a rapid reboot and back to step one. The phone will then boot back into CWM, and if I reboot, it will stick on the LG screen indefinitely.

yes, verbatim.
It is as if nothing happened, no log at the bottom, it is fresh.
The reset at the end of the factory reset is normal. Can you flash anything in cwm? You may need to flash a rom to get further.

tried, both using the advance restore method via Revolt ROM 1.3 and the install ZIP from SD Card method using Revolt 1.4.
Would another ROM be more suitable?
Do you have any back ups made?

Not to thread-jack but I'm in a similar situation. I was trying to get RevRom1.4 to work. I'm rooted. I've installed that premium version of clockwork, and then installed clock work recovery. I was able to boot into CWR and get to the sd card and see revrom1.4 but it would not install. I get the error message "cannot open folder/file" something to that effect.
But I was still able to restart and go back into stock LG phone. After hours of frustration I decided to do a factory reset from the lg settings menu. My phone restarted, the LG logo comes up and then it goes to clock work recovery. I can't get out of it, and restarting it simply brings back up CWR.
I found the fix from thecubed about clockwork exit fix. But I have yet to try it (at school). Is this the way to go? Why won't it let me install roms from clockwork recovery?
Being a noob, I have no backups. Please help me!

Run the xip you saw that cubed posted that should fix you. Idk I never ran into that situation myself so I can't promise anything.
And side kick: Just do a full restore even if its from like your first backup. The restore will give you your boot image and everything back hopefully allowing the phone to finish the boot process. After it boots go back to CWR and do a data wipe then flash 1.4. Reboot and set the phone up. Should work fine. Hope this helps.

That CWM is not correct for our phone you need to use thecubed's CWM, it can be installed from the Revo_toolkit.
The exitrecovery.zip file should get you out of recovery. Then download the Revo_toolkit and install the correct version of CWM. After that you should be able to successfully install zip files and perform backup/recovery.

+1 to K0G for knowing that.
I did use Rev_Toolkit to install clockwork recovery. It is version v4.0.0.2.
The error I get when trying to install RevoltRom1.4 is "E:Can't open /sdcard/download/RevoltRom1.4zip (bad) Installation aborted."
I have no way to transfer that file to my sd card (well I do but its at my house) when I connect the phone to the computer, the sd card storage does not come up.

My phone downloads all files to the external sd (16 gig that came with phone) that is why it is there.
Should I eject the card and manually move it on my computer to just sd/revoltrom1.4 ?

That did not work but I was able to download thecubed's clockworkrecover loop and put it on the sd card and that indeed worked.
So why can't I install revoltrom1.4? from the sd??
*EDIT*
After I got back into my stock OS I redownloaded 1.4 and installed it in clockwork from the download folder on my sd card and it worked great. Who knows why. So it looks like I'm good to go, this thing is amazing!!!

I have unlocked at rooted my htc one. Normally I used cwm but this time I thought I would give twrp a try. Once in flashed the ROM (HTC one Google edition 4.2) I was getting android system not responding so I thought I would clear the cache and reinstall the ROM. Since I had never used twrp before just hit format thinking it would don't the same as cmw but it formated everything on my phone. I thought at first my file system had been screwed up but my phone is still working. If I go to the file explorer on twrp it still shows all the folders but on my computer there is no folder in the phone and if i try to copy anything I get the error. "Phone may be disconnected or not responding" anyone had anything similar ? I'm going to take it as a good thing that my phone isn't a brick and this is some kind of mounting problem.

you need to reinstall the rom using the ADB method
Use the search option it works very well
Can you please help me on this one? Yesterday i updated my nightly cm11 to the newest version. I didn't backup any of my data. It booted normally and i tried to restore my old Android-ID via Titanium, but suddenly my phone restarted and after retrying to restore the ID again, it didn't work and it said, it couldn't find any old ID in the setting storage. I remembered that i have some older Titanium Backups on my laptop and after it failed again with the new added backups, i tried to restore the whole setting storage in apps list in Titanium. At first, it didn't showed any effect so i tried to reboot it and now i'm stucked on a loop. I can't flash the rom, because i deleted the rom from my sd card to get more storage.
TL; DR: How can you get access on your sd by using recovery? If i plug my phone via usb, it shows me my 2 sd cards, but i can't open them. (when i mount usb storage, the 2 sd cards on my laptop just disappear)

You might have to try on another pc/laptop. You should be able to access them in recovery if you mount storage (sd).

Have you tried clean flashing? If it doesn't work, you'll most likely have to flash stock kk4 without bootloaders and start fresh from there.

Since it was getting worse and worse (i tried to apply an old cm10 backup via cm), i wasn't even able to get into recovery mode. I flashed stock kk4 with odin but now it won't let me get to usb storage: Seconds after i plug my phonevia usb just to load or to load sth on my sd card, my phone shuts down and the green loading bar appears until a new reboot starts into the green bar etc...
Is this a common bug? I searched in the forums, but couldn't find this kind of.
I guess i have some weird mount/unmount problems since i even wasn't able to get into mass storage via recovery beforehand when i had the bootloop. And the strange thing now is, that odin didn't formatted my sd card (i still got my music and stuff)

Odin doesn't format your sd card anymore.
I'm not so sure about the bug you're having. Feels like your internal might be dead but that would mean no recovery too. Do you have a external sd in?

You don't have to use superoneclick.
I'd suggest you try speedmod kernel then and boot directly in recovery.

I was able to get into recovery with speedmod kernel, but a normal boot wasn't possible, just stucked at the galaxy s screen. After root and a full wipe, i couldn't flash a rom (cm11) due getting status 0 error.
Ok i flashed cm9 and this one is completely fine. No more usb issues also. I flashed cm11 and it seems fine. I hope it will stay that way. Thank you very much for caring.
I have one more question. One thing that is very frustrating is to lose all your customized data and settings with flashing. Since messing around with titanium lead me to this problem i want to know what's your favorite backup tool? Will a normal backup via recovery save ur apps and settings?

Hi there!
I'm a newbie what comes to Android phones (been using Windows Mobiles and Phones since 2005) and I just recently purchased my first Android phone, Motorola Droid 4 since I just cannot cope without physical QWERTY.
I tried to flash KitKat to my phone but accidentaly flashed it over stock ROM memory slot. Now the phone is stuck to Safestrap and I don't know what to do anymore. I don't have a backup of my phone's original ROM (Jelly Bean 4.1.2.) so could someone please tell me (simplified) how to fix the situation???
I presume I'd have to flash stock ROM back to its memory slot using Safestrap once again? But any help is highly appreciated!!!
Thanks a million in advance and sorry if this question has already been asked on this forum. I didn't find a similar question so that's why I posted mine here.

installing over stock is fine if you used correct files and steps.
what safestrap version?
there is a nandroid backup copy of my stock here Stock Rom Nandroid

Thanks! Already figured it out by recovering my phone by stock ROM which I found while doing Google search.
The KitKat custom ROM I tried to install is Vanir_maserati_4.4.3.061614.zip . Doesn't seem to work
I put the aforementioned zip file and Gapps_4.4.3. zip file to the root of my SD card and tried to flash it to the memory slot 1 with Safestrap (the newest version 3.73). After that I flashed Gapps file and booted my phone. Safestrap display was shown on the screen and I chose the bottom right hand side option to boot my phone with the ROM I just flashed to memory slot 1. It tried to boot but came back to safestrap screen couple of times so I wiped memory slot 1 and booted the phone back to stock ROM. Don't know what went wrong???
slot 1 is different than stock slot.
I tried Vanir_maserati_4.4.3.061614.zip in stock slot and didn't boot for me

In my case I flash backup slimkat 4.4.2 from slot 1 to stock slot now I see motorola log and then blank screen no recovery, when i press volume button its only make sound and vibrate.
When i go to stock recover in on the green android with red triangle phase but when I pres both vol buttons and nothing happens
is there a second way to wipe data or something ?
Now im downloading sbf files, that part will work but i forget to backup my data ( actually i backup them but the backup stays on internal memory )
Is there a chance to boot from some recovery image thru USB cable and fastboot i have such a option on my LG EVE ?

Yes, I found someone's stock ROM backup which I put into recover folder of my phone and then chose "recovery" in Safestrap. That did that job

Flashing XML firmware does not wipe internal or external SD cards
Wiping data in stock recovery does not wipe internal or external SD cards only wipes user data partition (user apps, settings...)

If you can get to safetrap, SD card can be mounted, and a ROM or a backup can be restored.

Only thing I can't do was to flash sbf with original firmware,
Data on internal partition is gone.
But I have a advice for some.
Before you use RSDlite decompress that sbf edit XML file and delete lines that overwrite partition that you want to save. Select xml from uncompressed dir and go.
That sort of things is much easier with d4 then it was with milestone 1 or milestone 2.

Got a Bootloop going on i cant get out of TWRP
Used flashify to install to bootloader
Tried a wipe of the phone
I have the same problem. You have to download the LG stock rom with your computer, transfer the file to your phone, and then flash it. You can also just wait for someone to make custom rom and just download that instead. I am not 100% sure if this method works, I am in the process of downloading the LG stock rom myself.
-Hope I have helped
I have reflashed the rom the bootloader is untouched.
//EDIT//
I downloaded http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...om-lg-g4-h811-10h-t-mobile-usa-stock-t3142779 and moved to my sdcard installed it and viola I have my phone back gotta reset the phone but i got it back which is a small miracle now to hope for xposed
//EDIT//
LG IMS and com.android.phone are not working on the debloated one I don't know if it's because i didnt wipe my phone (did dalvik and cache) but its coming up to my old lockscreen
//EDIT//
Reimaged the root then did VolDwn+pwr to get into factory wipe and preformed that so far so good no crashes but its still restoring my apps and stuff we will see.

E:createTarFork() process ended with ERROR=255
Anyone has experience with this error?
Correct me if wrong but to access recovery with phone off you hold power and volume down, let go for a sec then hold them again. Rooted and twrp installed but this only takes me to stock recovery. Stuckbin bootloop where continually optimizing apps. Its asking in stock recovery if want to erase all user data and restore default. Do I, any help appreciated.
Edit:fiqured it out and got into recovery.
Help!! Need to know what is the right thing to do when twrp ask me to keep reed only or allow modification.

How did you figure it out? I get to the same screen (stock recovery) and don't want to erase everything so I say no. Then it just reboots into regular android.
I can get into twrp with the twrp app but I want to know how with hardware buttons just in case something goes wrong with a flash.

I just entered yes and it took me into twrp. Ended up reflashing rom and all was well.

So. If twrp was flashed correctly, when phone is off i use the button combo to enter the 'recovery' screen. The option is given at the 'stock recovery' screen to wipe system i think, but if i have twrp what happens at the stock recovery screen? Does it just say itll wipe, but just instead go to the twrp recovery? Ive never seen it demonstrated!
Edit: Ok. If you have a custom recov then w/hardware buttons you'll get into it even though itll say you'll wipe..... You wont. Itll just take you into twrp because their isnt a stock recov
Can someone describe how one can restore the stock recovery, in case of phone return?
I realize you can go the KDZ method. Is there an easier stock recovery.img flash method?
go there http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/general/restore-lg-g4-h811-return-to-stock-t3172970 for to bring phone back to full unrooted stock recovery stock phone with a simple twrp flash. thank Micromod777 for making it possible.
Thanks for the link! Had seen that zip around but couldn't find where it had originally come from.

I got the same error when i attempted to restore a backup. Anybody know what causes this?
I'm trying to restore a nandroid backup but TWRP isn't allowing that saying the system is read only. I switched permissions for "System (root)" in FX file explorer to read/write but it didn't make a difference. I have my recovery backups saved directly to the ext sd card but I don't think that is the issue since I changed the ext sd card to read/write with NextApp SDFix and TBu can save to and restore from the ext sd card. Suggestions?

Open up the 'Next App SD Fix' and make sure the card still has Write access.
I flashed 10N over 10H and had lost Write access. Not certain if related, but worth a check.
I know you said you have Write access but I don't know if you checked recently, after the Nandroid restore failed.

I already did that and it didn't work. I tried it again to be sure but no it didn't help. That makes sense since TBu also uses the ext sd card and has no problems backing up and restoring apps. The other thing is the error I'm getting says the system is read only and that is not on the ext sd card. I'm going to dirty flash Xtreme 2.0 to see if that helps. Right now I'm less concerned about needing this nandroid backup right now than later really needing a backup and not being able go restore it. I wonder if this has anything to do with flashing the 811n bootstack and not taking the 811n OTA?
