So I decided that i wanted to try hero the other day so i did some searching and made sure i had everything required ....newest radio... check.....pvt board...check...rom ready to flash...check...i went through the whole proccess and got KiNgxKxROM up and running for at least a day and a half...then lastnight i was playing around with the phone and it reboot on its own (kinda like the random reboots i used to get when i first got the phone)...it went to the G1 screen then just went black..so i pulled the battery and tried to reboot...now i have no response from the phone what so ever...its totally dead as far as i can tell
i saw that someone had success by putting another sd card in and trying to boot but that does nothing for me
I am trying everything i can because somehow enough moisture crept into the phone to cause the little "your not getting another g1" sticker to turn red
any way i am hoping that some how my situation has a remedy but i doubt it does

this is not caused by the software sounds like your phone got a little wet some how and it messed up. try putting it in bowl of rice and if that does not work try a new battery.
tried a battery today at the store
i guess if it did get wet it could manifest itself a long time after the fact
well worth a shot regardless thanks for the advice

yeah i split soda on a keyboard once it did not start acting strange for 3 or 4 days after that. and pull the battery and take it out then complete submerge it for at least a day. but the damage is most likely done
Hey, something similar happened to me a few months back.
I use to get a lot of random reboots and it was quiet annoying and then one day my phone rebooted and it had a black screen, I took the battery out and put it back in and the phone was unresponsive.
When you plug in the charger does the red LED turn on or is it dead?
Mine, the led never turned on but it go warm because it still charged the battery.
My motherboard in the phone was fried somehow, I can assure you this isn't from the Hero rom at all because my phone died before I was even into roms.
Call HTC America (or where ever your from) and then tell them your problem and ask for an RMA repair, if the same thing happened to your phone as mine then you don't have to worry about them finding any "illegal software" (Root, and anything else that didn't come on the phone besides apps) I had root enabled and that voids the warranty but there would be no way for them to check so they would just replace the mainboard and send it back. In total it cost me 8 dollars to ship the phone and I had it back within a week - two weeks.
I hope this helped out!
EDIT: Is your water damage sticker red? I wasn't able to understand weither it was or not. I think it is and I just spent this entire time typing this long post for nothing then eeep! If it is, get an LG Vu Battery and replace the sticker with the one on the battery, I'm pretty sure they are identical.
Eh both stickers are red
thanks again ...it actually makes me feel better that it wasn't me messing around with hero that got me here
It just sucks having to pay the same amount as they are currently charging new customers for the phone under contract through the stupid insurance
This morning my Nexus 5 was turned off all of a sudden after not having used it for 20-30 minutes. I held the power button and nothing. I plugged it into power and the "Google" screen appeared. It then went into a reboot loop on and off, on and off, on and off. I held the Volume Buttons and it went into fastboot, but then boot looped out again and again. Searching on Google yielded that this was indeed a common problem. See this link below:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/2rpfuj/nexus_5_broken_power_button_keeps_rebooting
I called Google via the Hardware Warranty Center (1-855-836-3987, open 24/7):
https://support.google.com/googleplay/troubleshooter/3070579
Unfortunately, my device is past the 1 year warranty period (surprise, just like the others in the reddit link above). Google was helpful enough to call LG on my behalf, explain the situation, and hand me over. LG's warranty period is 1 year as well, so if I wanted to send in my device, I could do so but it would cost me to have it repaired. Unfortunately, they were unwilling to provide an estimate. Sending in the device to have the damage assessed is free luckily. The repair facility is in Fort Worth, Texas, and will take 5-7 days to estimate damage and repair (not including shipping time).
I decided to call T-Mobile to see if I they had the Nexus 6 in stock, just in case. They did. I also asked if they could do out-of-warranty repairs. They didn't, but they referred me to a nearby cell phone repair store. Just up the street from me! I didn't even know the place was there.
I called them and inquired if they could fix it. They said yes, but might need to order the power button if they don't have the correct size. Here's the meat of the post for those of wondering how much it will cost to fix: it would cost $35 if the power button needed adjusting, or $70 (with T-Mobile discount) if the power button needed to be replaced and re-soldered to the board. I took it over to get it inspected to see if they had the correct size power button. They disassembled it in the back, inspected it, and told me that luckily they had the correct-sized part. I figured sure, let's go for it, drove home, waited an hour or two and went back. I am happy to say that the power button is now working good as new!
TLDR:
- Call LG for out-of-warranty repairs at 1-800-243-0000. You have to FedEx your device, but shipping is taken care of.
- If you don't want to mail in your device, call your local T-Mobile store to refer you to a local repair shop.
- I found on Google that some people soldered in a new button themselves, but I didn't want to do that. If you feel so inclined, it apparently only takes an hour or two.

Sadly I don't think anyone in the US offers a 2-year warranty or I'd be all over it for a Nexus 6.
The only option is $8-10/month insurance (but unfortunately I'm on a $30 prepaid plan, so no insurance for me), or paying Motorola.com for their extended warranty an extra $150.
Anyone else know of a better US-based 2-year warranty for a Nexus 6?
Hello I have the same problem. I have still the warranty but my phones is unlocked and rooted. Will they replace it? Because it's an hardware failure. It has nothing to do with the root.
Google are usually pretty lenient with root on nexus devices, after all they are intended for the developer community, but there are plenty of threads on how to return your device to stock on here if you don't want to take the chance they'll refuse.
I know how to unroot it, but I can't even start the phone. And that's the question. Why should they void my warranty, if the power button is stucked and I can't unroot it.
Google have said, in print, that root does not affect the warranty IF, as you say "it's not software related". LG does not take the same view.
Try Gravity screen with proximity on/off.. no buttons touched.
How can I try it when my phone don't turn on
Till when is your warrenty valid? I had a similar problem last December and my warranty was due to expire in Jan this year. I managed to start my phone once by trying different ways to press the power button, and once it was on I jumped on the opportunity and unrooted and untampered it. Since I bought my phone from eBay, I had to visit LG for the repair. They checked my phone and said that they would have to replace the entire motherboard. Since it was in warranty and I was fully backed up, I agreed with it and received the phone in 2 days.
I had to send my N5 for an RMA recently because of power button issues. At first, a few hard taps around the power button fixed the problem momentarily but this trick lasted only about a month. After that my phone was unusable and I had to send the device in for RMA. Google Canada agreed to provide the RMA even if my phone was 3 months out of warranty (probably because power button failures are a known problem).
Now I have a refurb N5 and I want to preserve the power button as much as possible so I use a Nillkin flip case with a magnetic contact. The cover wake/sleep the phone automatically so I never have to hit the power button.
The only real fix to that problem is to solder a new button to the main pcb. Since LG repair centre won't waste time with such a risky procedure they only replace the whole PCB. Small repair shops will change the button.
It's pretty sad that these phones are doomed with a predictable failure like that. It remind me of my Motorola Atrix, a great phone except they all died from the same wifi-radio failure at some point. The fingerprint reader also broke consistently.
A friend had a similar issue with the power button, google wouldn't fix it since it was out of warranty but lg fixed it free of charge.
I had the biggest scare of my life last night as I was abruptly woken up by my phone in a reboot loop, I suspected correct, it was the power button. Thankfully is hasn't happened since, but the power button is now more sensitive than I'm used to.
Good Lord did this come at the right time. I started having this same exact issue a few days ago. It comes and goes and it's what ultimately got me on to 5.1 from 4.4.4. I didn't think it was a software problem, but 5.1 'fixed' it until yesterday, when the same thing started happening again. There is a cell phone repair place not too far from where I live, so I'll have to give them a shout and see if they can fix it.
EDIT: +1 to the guy who suggested Gravity Screen as well. I found that app when searching for a solution to this same thing and it did work well enough. Habit to hit the power button was strong, but the app does a pretty good job.
I just ran into the same issue the other day.
Has anyone sent their phone back to LG out of warranty? How much did it cost to have the switch replaced?
One temporary solution I saw online that has worked decently well for me is to put a strong magnet by the power button. I waved the magnet over the power button and "pulled" slowly away from the phone as if I were pulling the contacts inside the button apart.

Exorz - have you found an answer to this? My wifes phone started having this problem today. Just got off the phone with LG to send it in for an estimate but I wont know how much for a few weeks...
I had the same issue in February. But there is no Google service in Turkey , so I sent my N5 to LG Turkey Service within 2 years warranty.(Device was not rooted)also wanted to change battery and back cover. They changed battery , cover and power button for free (0$) and they did not change the motherboard.Button is working well now.I don't understand why they want to change motherboard.

Honestly it's been a while since I used it, a few months at least I think. I know I had it set up where when I picked up the phone, the screen would turn on as hitting the power button was causing it to reboot. At least...so I thought.
After this worked for a little while, then my phone stopped rebooting and would just turn off completely. I'd have 50% battery left and the phone would shut off. I'd turn it back on and it would read the battery was at 1% or something like that. Long and short of it is this...I ended up replacing the battery and it's like a brand new phone again. No more reboots, no more random shutdowns, nada. Battery life is back to where it should be, I can go a full day without needing to be around a charger.
It could be your power button, or considering we're Nexus users (thus, use our phones more and in different ways than most) it's quite possible your battery is taking a dump too. I'd seriously look into getting it replaced. I could've done it myself, but opted to take it into a local store and I think the cost of the battery and the install was $55 or something like that. I was happy to pay it to basically have a brand new phone again.
I'm holding out hope for a 2015 N5 per the rumors, and I'll pick that up assuming T-Mobile Wifi calling is available on it like it is on the N6. If they do a solid and bring that to the N5, I see absolutely zero reason to get another phone for at least another 12-18 months.

Well I don't think my battery is the problem but the power button instead. It started just last week. Found a fix that requires opening the phone and I was trying to avoid that. Seems like I would have to open the phone after all. Thx for the answer though.
My phone's screen just went black suddenly while i was using the phone last night. Nothing i do will wake the screen up, i tried rebooting by holding the power button, tried power+volume down also to boot into recovery .. no response. However the phone seems to be functioning as i can hear the screen lock sound. I think im stuck on the pin screen (the one to pass the boot-up-encryption). theres some vibration and feedback when i randomly press on the screen too.
The device is running Stock 6.0.1 , unrooted , stock kernel. Has this ever happened to anyone else ? could it be a software issue ?
I believe the LCD panel just went dead ..
Thanks!
Have you hooked it up to a computer and tried to see if it's recognised by ADB?

I had a nexus that had a faulty screen and randomly shut off or something half the screen will glitch out and one day it just stopped working but I could hear the lockscreen sounds. Your best bet would be to send it in for service maybe its a loose connecting or a hardware issue. When mine started acting up it was a loose connecting so if I hit the phone with my hand it would go back to normal and then it stopped working. Its a common issue if you do a google search many people have encountered this
That sounds to me like a return-under-warranty job. If you were in the UK you could quote the Sale of Goods Act, which specifies that an item must be of suitable quality and last a reasonable amount of time, but in my case when I returned my faulty N5 to Google after 18 months they were as good as gold, didn't quibble, simply replaced it with a refurbished one which appeared to me to be indistinguishable from brand new.
Since by definition your phone must be very close to its warranty period, depending on when you got it, I'd start with that. This is the link I used from the UK - maybe different if you're elsewhere, but you should find a link called "Get a call from a hardware specialist":

That makes sense. could be just a loose connector between the LCD panel and the MoBo ..
Problem is i live in Jordan and I got the phone from Dubai. Its still under warranty of the seller (Souq.com ; an online store .. kind of like Amazon of the middle east ), So i have to send my phone to Dubai to fix it. Now i could just go to a local phone repair shop and ask the guy to check the connectors, but im afraid that would void the warranty and not solve the problem ;( .

It's a little rough and confusing but, it's workable. If you need help setting it up feel free to shoot me a PM.
Hi,
First of all, Sorry for Bad English, Bear with me.
Long Story, Short!
It keeps happening!
It would turn off, won't reboot
Won't take charging
I will leave it for a while
If I leave it off after when I am tired trying to turn it on, a few hours later It will be WARM like it was being used, Then I would plugin again and THIS TIME IT WOULD TAKE CHARGE and EVEN REBOOT!!
After when I am using it for a while (10-12min) GOES BACK TO POINT 1
I ERASE EVERYTHING, FACTORY RESET IT, and This time.. IT would work for more than 10-12min,
I will install apps, login into the account, and then again... The same thing would start to happen! !
What Really Happen? Day ZERO!
I bought this Red Magic 3 phone 3 months ago and it was working super awesome and everything was great until last week after a 30-40 min gaming session on this phone, I went back to sleep and kept the phone on the table.
The next morning I noticed that the mobile is turned off, I thought Maybe battery drained so I plugged in to charge and continued with my morning routine.
After an hour I noticed that mobile is still not charging I tried plugging in and out multiple times and it didn't start charging, I checked the Data Cable on my MI MAX 2 (that also supports Type C) and Cable and Adapter were working fine.
I immediately realized that SOMETHING IS WRONG!!!
I saw some youtube video and I tried that Vol Key + Power Key thing and that Bios look alike menu opened up, I can see all the reboot, recovery boot, etc option but nothing worked.
So I picked the WIPE DATA option and It worked, Formatted the Phone and IT REBOOTED.
I figured maybe some software issue was causing it.
BUT SINCE THAT DAY it keeps happening!
It would turn off, won't reboot
Won't take charge when I plugin
I will leave it for a while
a few hours later It will be WARM like it was being used, Then I would plug in again and THIS TIME IT WOULD TAKE CHARGE and EVEN REBOOT!!
After when I am using it for a while (10-12min) GOES BACK TO POINT 1
Service Center
They are no help! They don't know what is wrong with it, Even they formatted it in front of me they did the Factory RESET it, I tried using it in Front of them for a while and the SAME THING HAPPENED!
then they installed some updates using some official package.
But still,
IT would work for more than 10-12min,
I will install apps, login in the account
suddenly... The same thing would start happening again!
Their Resolution is :
Motherboard issue and I will have to get the motherboard replaced.
This simply means EVEN THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT and CHANGING EVERYTHING is their SOLUTION!
and they said it won't be covered on the warranty! Because the warranty has been voided BECAUSE THERE IS A SMALL CHIP on the phone! -_- which happens to be 40-50 days old.
I know is their Excuse to get money from me! Now I don't know what to do with it.
For me it was my first expensive mobile. I never bought a mobile for more than 200$.
Same thing for me.
Germany, Europe.
Download Ampere.
What's your battery health at, voltage, and how many ma draw when just sitting in that app.
I've learned my lesson with this company. A couple of extra capacitative buttons and a large battery are not a reason to buy a phone. The build quality is ok, the software abysmal (I still get random **** getting pressed when I unlock the phone), and support horrendous. Do yourself a favor, threaten to speak with the governing authority in your country regarding warranties. Tell them a small crack on the screen is not indicative of internal damage. Tell them you will post a youtube review of the company and phone if they do not abide by their warranty and fix your phone.
Once you fix your phone, sell it and cut your losses.
When will people learn YouTube won't do anything. You need subscribers to have any kind of weight. I'm at 2.4m lol.
I don't know the warranty laws in your country. I know here they have to prove that what you did was the cause. Nubia is really shady and not only scams but will flat out lie all the time. I seen people had bad battery's and they say they need a replacement board.
Just let me know what I asked and we can start going in a little deeper. Start off with the basics then move into some other stuff. Could be a simple easy fix.

I got the Battery Replaced thinking it was the issue but right after the installation. I turned it on to use it and it didn't work... I am still facing the same issue.. Meaning Battery was fine.. there is something else that causing it to turn off like this..!
Still, it acts like in COMA, then it heats up, I will charge it, It will boot.. If I will try using it ..it will turn off and won't turn back on!

Hi All.
Battery stuck on 50% won't change even when charge or discharge. Today it randomly shutdown in my pocket. and then had a battery symbol with a ?. The phone eventually turned on, I've tried turning off location, rebooting still having issues. Sometimes the battery saving mode stops working, i.e. it cannot be turned on. As I can see the problem concerns a large group of users and nobody knows what this problem is related to. Google is silent as usual. Is this a problem with the software or components ?! I am in a bad situation because I have no warranty for the device and I do not know where to send the phone in Poland because no one knows what is the cause of the problem. Help me please.

Had this.
This is going to sound dumb:
Shut your phone off.
Now squeeze the phone around the G logo on the back (like you're trying to compress it).
Now turn it back on and charge normally.
This is potentially only a temporary fix as I have no idea how this would be software related.
If you can enter bootloader mode, you still have chance to save your phone by yourself :
(1)Make sure there is fastboot&ADB tool in your computer
If you don't have it, please download from here(https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools). To click the one depends on which one of OS you have and then install in your computer
(2)Download google factory image file from here(https://developers.google.com/android/images). To choose the model of your phone and download it then extract file.
(3)Reboot your phone to bootloader mode. Then use USB cable and make phone connected to your computer USB port. Then execute the window commend mode. key in
fastboot devices ===> make sure your phone being catched by your computer
flash-all ===> To build up a whole new pixel OS in your phone.
Good luck !

Ive had my pixel 4 xl since november and it just started automatically shutting off when in my pocket all by it self a few weeks ago , took cell phone to my sevice provider and they sent it in for repair ...received a new phone ...well refurbished p4 xl only to have if start happening again days later and have the 50% battery start happening also ....contacted google and they are in the process of sending me a new refurbished p4 xl , so this will be my 3 rd p4 xl ..lol
very frustrating to say the least ....ive had to hard reboot my phone at least 20 times a day or basically keep it out of any pockets , the is common issue apparently with pixels phones from what i've read in the link https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/22397169?hl=en
I've talked with loyalty department at my service provider and if it happens again with the pixel that google sends me , then they will allow me to void my contract and supply me with a new device from a different brand ...ie Samsung or apple or whatever else is available on the market right now on there website.
i'll be really bummed if i have to switch to a samsung or apple buuuuuut need a stable device ...lol
So to anyone having this issue that still has a basic warranty, there are at least 2 options ...rma device over and over till you get one that doesn't have this problem or contact service provider and explain your situation and most likely they will be understanding to the fact that you have purchased a 1200.00 phone that requires constant rma's and hopefully allow you to exchange for a different brand of phone that doesn't have this these problems

I fully understand you. I am in a worse position. As a loyal Google fan, I bought my pixel from someone who didn't have a proof of purchase. In Poland it was difficult to get it, and as it was 1.5 times more expensive than everywhere else. It seems that I can throw out the pixel and buy another phone for a lot of money. I am most annoyed by the company's attitude. It looks like they are xxxxx on us.

Good luck !

This is the "No Warranty Solution" : Flash a full factory image and allow it to completely wipe your phone. This is the second step Google support would give you (the first is doing a factory data reset from Recovery). If after flashing your phone, restoring it to the original "out of the box" state, you still have a battery issue, then the next step is to replace your battery. If you forgot to state in your OP that your bootloader is still locked (so you can't flash the image) then you need to do that first. Bottom line is you need to factory reset the phone to rule out a software issue. If the restored phone still has the same problem, then you need to focus on the hardware. Best of luck. :good:
Yes, it does !

Same happened to me with 4 XL 64.
I've been able to "fix" with the turn off and squeeze but the problem has turned into the battery discharge displayed gets stuck at a percentage and it won't charge. I have to turn off & squeeze to get it back.
Finally called Google and they are making me send my phone in for repair. Now I assume for turnaround sake, they'll just send me a new refurb back. That also means I'm not confident the problem will be resolved as there are over 150 replies on the Google Support page identifying this problem.

Looks like some folks are getting a replacement before sending the problem phone back but others are required to send it in or drop off at repair facility.
Good for me? I have Preferred Care and I'll keep sending them back until I get one that works.
Bad for me? I'll have to keep sending them back + I splurged on the orange color so I doubt I'll ever see that again.
I've actually dealt with this. This is a hardware issue. I had the same problem. Covered by warranty, I took it to ubreakitifix after contacting Google and they took care of me. Trust me this isn't a issue where you can flash this or squeeze that. This is a hardware issue on Google's part. There's nothing you can do as a phone user about a defective battery in a 6+ month old $1000 phone

You might be able to convince them to send you a device before you ship it off, citing the current global situation and a need for a cell phone
OP lives in Poland and has no receipts or warranty. Poland is not a supported country so he is looking for "non-warranty" solutions.

The return process was pretty great. I shipped my existing phone off on a Monday (Illinois to Texas) and by the following Monday, I received my exact phone back (has a screen protector on it). I was very satisfied with that. HOWEVER, the "repair" still has an issue where if I charge to 100%, the icon stays at 100% until I reboot and then it'll display the correct battery %.
The repair documentation was a bit vague and said they replaced the "charging port". I still believe there's a unannounced hardware issue. Can anyone say, class action????

I wonder what the next step would be if I started another repair claim?
Holding the power button down for more than 3 consecutive seemed to solve a similar issue for me. My P4 was holding certain percentages for too long (even though the phone actually lost more).

This post seems to have been ignored. If it happens to me, I'll try that. But my carrier purchase didn't qualify for Google extended care add-on. Standard warranty only. Does that make a difference in what Google would do in this case?
I use Accubattery and monitor charge cycles for "battery wear". Even following "Battery College" recommendations, battery health has dropped from 99 to 95%; I've had the P4XL since November. I'm now slowing the charge, getting away from power delivery to see if that helps slow the wear. SOT varies greatly per charge.
I use a belt pouch for carrying phone while away from home. Rarely, I put it in my pocket but do so at home- front pocket only- never back pocket. May just be bad phone batteries from what I've read.

For 5 weeks my Pixel has been in the authorized repair center in Germany. They don't have parts to fix it. They told me that. It is not known how long this may take. I haven't had such a circus with a good smartphone. I love Google products, but I feel very disappointed because Pixel cost me a lot of money and this is definitely a factory defect.

Sorry to hear this, and surprising, as Germany is a supported country with many authorized repair centers. Did you send it to PSC? They claim to be Google-certified and have all factory parts? COVID-19 may also be delaying things. Hope things turn out well for you. :good:
