Can anyone with a N7 and 4.2 confirm my issue?
I'm using the N7 everday to stream music from TuneIn, Google Music and Spotify to stream to my Bluetooth speakers. I never had issues with Android 4.1, but since 4.2 it's stuttering every few seconds. Especially when the content gets streamed over wifi and is not stored on the N7. To go sure that it's not just my wifi I tried it with my GNex and 4.1 and there I don't have this issue.

Yes, I believe all Nexus 7's will be affected, too. Check out this Google Code bugreport:

I am highly disappointed in Google for this. This is a HUGE use-case for me, and it has essentially made my $150 headphones worthless, as well as essentially ruined my use of the Nexus 7 in public, as I cannot listen to music/videos at a public shop/location with the BT headset/headphones that I always have with me. Wired headphones? Ick.
Yes, I've created that issue in the bug tracker. Please star it if you've the same issue. I'm now thinking of going back to 4.1 since I used this feature daily.

I did star it, haha. Small world, I suppose. Did you see this too: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39632
Very similar to what happens on my N7 on the odd few seconds I have uninterrupted BT audio output. WTF does Google keep doing with their BT stack? This is ridiculous. It is affected BOTH of their flagship devices. I will all but guarantee that the N4 is affected too.
Well since the 4.2 update my nexus has become quite useless to me. I used to use the bluetooth tethering feature on my phone (which I pay for).
Since the update this feature no longer works
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39637&thanks=39637&ts=1352902123
just tried my bluetooth headset. crackling/studdering issues.
nexus 7, 32gb.
I can confirm the bluetooth tethering issue as well. Sound is stuttering and tethering over bluetooth is impossible. So now we've two big bluetooth issues :/
I have the same issue. What's weird is that it's fine when playing through my creative bluetooth speakers in my kitchen but affects my philips fidelo bluetooth speakers in my bedroom!

Have you checked "connect to device for internet access"?
I'm having no issues tethering to my HTC desire since upgrading to 4.2, but I did notice that i have to check this box every time that I connect via Bluetooth now.

I just tested BT tethering to my Galaxy Note, all is well there too. The audio problems are not acceptable, though. I am not happy at all.

Are you playing music you have locally loaded on the device? This issue is most prevalent with streaming audio such as Pandora, and streaming videos like YouTube. I have tried: A set of Motorola SF600 headphones, Belkin B51 Audio Bridge, and a Plantronics M155, so I doubt it is an audio-sink specific issue.

It may be a 2.1 vs 3.0 issue? **** at this point I am just sick and tired of doing Google's own testing for them. This is a disgrace.
I am testing this right now.
I am able to get audio from Audible book loaded on N7 to my Plantronic M1100, no problems. Headset is 2.1 EDR
Also, I have just paired my N7 with my work Lenovo X230 Laptop (Win 7) via BT, Audio is being played through with no issue and on screen controls on laptop are working. Laptop has a 4.0 chip built in.
Edit: Just installed Tunein radio, working on BT Headset and laptop still.
My speaker system is using Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. Flashed the full factory image to go sure that it wasn't caused by the update procedure ... still the same problem. It's stuttering every 2-3 seconds.

Playing Spotify direct from the cloud
Just gave it a go with Sony DR-BT21G headphones. Play Music and YouTube both worked without problem. These headphones are only BT2.0, for what it's worth. My Nexus was stock 4.1.2 and did OTA to 4.2.
Was curious if anyone else has run into issues with audio over Bluetooth being distorted? On mine, when streaming Spotify to my car (extreme quality downloaded to the phone), there is a very noticeable distortion in the high frequencies. It's really pronounced on cymbal crashes.
I really hope this is just my particular phone and not all of the Ones doing this. I really like this phone otherwise but this is kind of a deal breaker for me. :crying:
Does it sound better (test with same song) when you plug it in with an audio cable? What's the MP3 sample rate?
I thought Google was supposed to have addressed this issue
I just drove around today with streaming from Google music with no issues.

Hey quick question, if your car is capable, did you get the song/artist/album meta-data transmitted? This version of Bluetooth is supposed to have that in the spec...

No idea what the sample rate is. But it's the highest quality on Spotify. Even when it's on the lowest quality it doesn't sound this bad when using my old Galaxy Note 2 or iPhone.
Just tried it with the Aux jack in the car and it sounded fine. In fact, with Beats on, I'd say it sounded excellent. :good:

Maybe I should load up some music locally and see what happens. Out of curiosity, is yours rooted? I don't think that would have anything to do with it, would it?
I am rooted and running viper rom.
Also, it was both local and streamed from Google music.
On a huge side note, it transmits song data too! My EVO lte didn't do that, pretty happy to be surprised by that with the One as I wasn't expecting it.

Pretty awesome that it transmits that data!! That might be enough for me to get a new deck in my car. It's drives me nuts having blanks screens where the music data should be.

Support of song metadata is part of the AVRCP 1.3 profile, which this phone supports. That is independent of any Bluetooth core version (2.1 vs 3.0 vs 4.0) specification. There are only a few headsets and even fewer cars that support the AptX codec which this phone also supports. Think of the codec as a way of transmitting the audio from the phone to the headset in a higher quality than MP3.
I am noticing distortion on the highs when when streaming music over BT. I think even my EVO3D sounded slightly better than this How is there a ROM already available for the one? Where can I obtain Viper rom?

I was excited to find out that my One was transmitting song data/text to my head unit over BT! my evo3d didnt do that. this is using PlayerPro
This just reminds me of how much I have to test on my phone before it's too late to exchange it.
Generally best to troubleshoot Bluetooth issues for music with the default player first before looking at alternative players. If it isn't working well on the default as well as your preferred player like PlayerPro, that says a lot more.
Well the info from the music player to the stereo is inconsistent. Using the same app, same songs, etc sometimes it shows music info sometimes it doesn't.

Just tried it again using the Viper rom this time and the same issue.
I'll load some music into the phone and use the stock player and see if it still does it.
Well I experimented with it yesterday streaming music from my Amazon MP3 cloud player and it was great...I was streaming to a JBL Flip Bluetooth speaker and it sounded awesome...BUT....we only have 3G in my area so the few little sounds I heard I attributed to 3Gs slower connection speed. I then downloaded a hard copy of the same song on my phone and played it non-streaming and it sounded better. Maybe its just the streaming that distorted the sound for you.
Loaded some MP3s into the One and tried the stock music player in the car is the same results. Super distorted.
I thought this got fixed with ICS. My Galaxy S2 (after the ICS update), S3 Note 2 and my iPhone 4s and 5 all had no trouble streaming to my car over bluetooth. :crying:
Just to clarify, I have had ZERO distrotion issues with music to my car or computer headset. Thats through google music and pandora, the music sounds great with no issues whether streaming or from my pinned playlists.
My only issue has been the inconsistent nature of if it provided the song info to my car's stereo. I have found that if I am on an FM station and then switch to bluetooth with my car for media that it always provides the information, so I am assuming that it is something to do with starting the car and syncing to the bluetooth immediately where maybe my stereo hasn't fully booted yet that is causing the audio to play but not getting the full music info.
I know AVRCP 1.3 support is built into Android 4.3, but from what I understand, some OEMs have built it into their phones running Android 4.2.x. At least, there are some user reports in the S4 and HTC One threads suggesting that Samsung and HTC have added it to their 4.2 builds.
Can any Moto X users say whether or not the Moto X supports AVRCP 1.3? I stream audio to my car's stereo over bluetooth, and I really want to keep the metadata flowing. I'm running an Android 4.3 ROM on my Galaxy Nexus, but that phone is starting to show its age. I'm locked into Verizon for coverage reasons, so I'm trying to find a new phone with AVRCP support built-in, since I won't be able to flash ROMs.

There is no AVRCP 1.3 support on the Moto X, I was a bit bummed about it as well since my Gnex was rocking 4.3, but I wouldn't let that sway you from this phone, it is really a perfect Gnex replacement. One of the coolest features about Bluetooth music streaming is when you start driving it will automatically start playing music where you left off last time. Anyways, I am sure a 4.3 update will come eventually and AVRCP 1.3 will be there.

1.3 = streaming of song track album of title as well as song length etc correct? If so, then yes. I was surprised to see it on the X... after coming from a 4.3 Nexus 4. On a 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX stock head unit.

Add another 'yes'. Meta data streams to my Pioneer head unit just fine. It doesn't work QUITE the same way that my N4 does though. The X shows the Meta data, but also then shows a track #. The Nexus 4 doesn't show a track number.

Now I am super confused at why mine doesn't work! In the past my Gnex running Bugless Beast, the metadata would show up because that was one of his extras, then I flashed a new rom and it went away. Then recently when I flashed 4.3 it was back again, now with my Moto X no metadata is showing up. Very strange it works for you guys, maybe it's a problem with my head unit. I have a Sony headunit.

Historically, in my experience, Sony has never been good @ meta data. I had a head unit from them back in the day, one of the earlier MP3 playing head units. It couldn't even read the filenames correctly. They always came up just garbled despite the ID3 tags AND filenames being correct. I'd maybe see if there's a firmware update for your head unit?

Morning.
I am having a problem with my note 4 edge and my car stereo. Here is a little background.
I have a 2012 Subaru STi with the stock stereo and Bluetooth capability. When I had a note 2 there were *zero* issues with the device automatically connecting when I got into the car and resuming where I left off.
When I traded my phone for the note 3, I lost the auto paring feature and had to go to my stereo every time I turned the car on and select my device. ( I did lots of trouble shooting here... stock, rooted, un rooted, different ROMs) and no mater what, I could not auto pair. Additionally, there were often times where in order to play a call through the stereo I had to go to the phone, select Bluetooth settings, select pair voice with car.
Soo it is time to get a note 4. I figure it cannot be any worse than going from a note 2 to the note 3. Boy was I wrong!
The note 4 does not auto connect either.
I use spotify for streaming the music and have the files downloaded locally to the phone. Without rhyme or reason, the music will simply stop playing and my car will show "BT-A (blue tooth audio) Paused as if I hit the pause button on spotify. When I look at the phone, the song is still playing without issue and is not paused as far as spotify is concerned. I then have to hit the back or next track song to resume playing music.
it is very random.. for example, 5-10 seconds into a song it stopped and did this about 10 times. The drive home yesterday would let me get about halfway through a song before this, and the day prior would always freeze a the end of a song.
I have reinstalled spotify, factory reset the phone without any luck.
I know the next step for trouble shooting is to start trying different media sources and comparing (holidays/work have made that hard).
has anyone had issues with their note 4 and their car stereo? I will likely just be buying a new stereo because this is starting to be frustrating.

Was there a change from functionality from the note 3 to note 4 regarding Bluetooth? If the autopairing is the issue, I understand that. However, once connected, I cannot figure out why it hiccups and stops.

Interesting. Man this was unexpected! Thank you very much for your info. I guess I figured this was not a Bluetooth generation issue since it still pairs when I manually do it.

so many changes it not worth buying a head unit cause you still gonna need to modify the phone with the new files as long as it does not need new hardware. if your note 3 worked maybe see if a dev is willing to downgrade ur bluetooth or teach ya what you need to move around.

Well I think a new head unit is in the future regardless, the STi is fast but lackluster with comfort features such as sound. Would it be safe to assume that any mid-top shelf head unit would be compatible? I have looked at a few, they do not seem to state a Bluetooth version with them.
I may just go toy around with some at the store and decide from that.

Have you tried using your phone with another bluetooth device example a bluetooth speaker etc?...The reason I ask is I have hands free bluetooth with my 2014 Nissan Titan, it worked fine with Note 3 I had previously, connected with no issues but when I received the Note 4 for some reason it would disconnect from bluetooth. I than decided to pair my wireless bluetooth speaker I use to listen music from my phone and it didn't work. So I had to get a replacement Note 4 as bluetooth was the issue on the Note 4 as it didn't work, so you might have the same issue.
Damn... i think you are right. Does the new note 4 work fine with your car? I jus thooked this up to my A33 bluetooth speaker and it does the same thing... cuts in and out, plays weird and not right. I already paid 25$ for the screen protector to be applied... im going to be pissed i have to return it.
Did you get a new device or refurb?

To throw another variable in the mix...
I have no issue with streaming Bluetooth Netflix to my Beats headphones... with spotify messing up with my car and blue tooth speaker, perhaps it is a spotify issue.
I will get another streaming app to test out.
How could it work with my headphones without issue, but not with other devices and result in a hardware problem for the phone? This is now making me think it is more likely an issue with spotify

Hello I am on the latest e update from T-Mobile and have noticed in my cars Bluetooth when I stream music it seems to have popping noises that seems to be like it's having a hard time keeping up with the stream. I also noticed with audio from videos played through my car has an aweful sync delay. I have a 2017 Ford with Sync3. I have no issues with my older Nexus 6p or GS 7.
Has anyone else experienced this? Wondering if I have a defective unit.

I have the same problem with the new update connecting to my 2017 Ford Escape. I found a work around, though. If I disconnect and then reconnect to the car's Bluetooth, the skipping goes away. No idea why this would happen, but hopefully the next update fixes it. I don't want to do this every time I get in my car!
Edit: Also, I'm 90% sure I didn't have this problem before the update.
I hope so too. I have factory reset and turned battery optimization off all Bluetooth apps too. Also I had all the new play store updates. And when I factory reset I lost them all. Seems like the updates tab and filter options were on then gone after reset. ?

Hello I am on the latest e update from T-Mobile and have noticed in my cars Bluetooth when I stream music it seems to have popping noises that seems to be like it's having a hard time keeping up with the stream. I also noticed with audio from videos played through my car has an aweful sync delay. I have a 2017 Ford with Sync3. I have no issues with my older Nexus 6p or GS 7.
Has anyone else experienced this? Wondering if I have a defective unit.

Same here. I checked on my wife's G6 and it had the same sync issue. Hope the next update fixes this. According to T-Mobile the next update should drop on the 7th.

No update yet.
Which version of Bluetooth are your devices/car bluetooth connections utilizing? Just curious.
My stereo headphones use 4.0 (Jabra Move), but I haven't noticed any issue yet with high CPU usage, battery drain, quality issues, etc. I've had it on when out in case a call comes in.

Not sure I would assume the latest. I will have to check Ford.
Also no update today
Bluetooth Issues
Hi, I have been having bluetooth issues with this phone since day one. It does not happen with all bluetooth devices but it definitely happens with my Pioneer Head unit in the car. Sometimes it also depends on the application used. The strange this is that it does not happen all the time, but when it does it happens frequently. I also noticed that the headunit will get stuck in voice command mode after using voice command, also the phone will answer calls by itself even though this feature is turned off in the settings. The message is "Bluetooth device has stopped working". This obviously did not happen with my G4. I have cleared Cache and all bluetooth devices, and have also cleared them on th Head Unit. I do have another Pioneer head unit in another vehicle, different model and it does the same thing. I have seen many people reporting issues with car units in other vehicles.
Hoping for a quick update, I know weird things are bound to happen with new phones. I really like the phone, this is the only real anoying issue.
I think the issue is more so bluetooth than anything else. Bluetooth never was, and likely never will be, a truly reliable data transfer protocol.

I think the issue has to do with device incompatibilities. Every phone I have had, I see reports of BT problems that I just don't experience. Hooks up to the car in a flash. Works with both my bt headphones and soundbar for my tv.
My car is a nissan maxima.
I have had g2, g3, g4, nexus 6p , g5 and now g6. The nexus was the worst for my devices. It worked, but getting connected took longer.
Possibly The Music App Being Used
I don't have a ford like allot of you guys replying in the thread, however I have noticed that specifically "Google Play Music" will have an issue on any bluetooth device; where if you have a widget of the player on the phone, and you have listened to music using the app BEFORE you connected to the vehicle, when trying to play from where you were in the song, it will pop and skip around. The only way to fix this easily is to pause the song, clear the app out of recents and re open the app and play. Hope this helps some of you.
I have also noticed this with my G6. I have a 2014 Chevy Malibu and use Google Play Music, streaming through T-Mobile. I have no issues streaming music to the same car with GPM through my Samsung GS7. I noticed someone mention disconnecting then reconnecting bluetooth, so I will give that a shot. Still frustrating, and I am hoping that LG will be able to come up with a software fix.
My G6 Bluetooth crashes every time its connected to my car "Bluetooth crash". It doesn't matter which app I use, it disconnects every 5 seconds. The rest of my phones connect without a problem to my Honda Accord. Even my fiance's G6 connects without an issue. I believe I got a bad unit, will return for another one and see what happens.
There were a ton of Bluetooth issues in 7.0. I had them on my Pixel XL. It really sucks that LG didn't ship the G6 with 7.1. Hopefully they implement the Bluetooth patches in 7.1. I can't get my Dodge truck to display Google Play Music metadata with my G6. My Pixel XL displays the metadata just fine. The G6 does display Google Play Music metadata in my Ford Explorer though.
I'm getting noticeable static when using Pandora via Bluetooth with my 2016 Subaru, but it's an improvement over my OnePlus 3T that wouldn't even allow media playback via Bluetooth with my car.

Hi Yes I am having a similar issue with my lg g6. I am also on tmobile. The sound randomly about 1-2 times during the song just starts to sound terrible (like FM quality). It does have a bit of a static/popping nosie, this happens for a few seconds for me and then goes back to sounding normal.

Thanks for the answer, unfortunately it didn't work.
I tried wiping my phone clean but it seems that after the LG Android Updates it starting acting worse. GPM does not help either.
I've tried everything, reset network, clearing all Bluetooth data, safe mode, even restarted my car's audio system. Brand new LG G6, not a day old and it doesn't connect to car, only call audio connects but not the media. Works fine with portable speakers but keeps disconnecting every ten seconds in car.

Are you using google music? I have found Slacker Radio and Spotify both work for me using bluetooth but Google Music just crashes continually.
