So I have posted a few times and returned 2 Nexus 7's for slightly off color tones purplish blue link colors on Google and innacurate whites as well as some trailing or blur. No screen lift.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpqfMlWup18 I can't stand the yellowish tint from the one on the left.
Well yesterday I was at Staples with $15 gift card from trading in my used inks and I see a UPS delivery guy come through, I know from Past expereinces UPS delivers the Nexus 7 to Staples.
And So I asked if they had any new Nexus 7's at first they said no but then I pointed out the UPS delivery and a new shipment had just come in of 8GB models.
so for $199-$15= $184 I got my new Nexus 7, I would have not bought it but when I looked underneath and saw the new C80K CSSN I had to go for it.
I get home and I unbox Perfect no dead pixels, Or light bleed, today I compared it to an iPad 3 at the Apple store, and the colors are exact spot on. No off tones greens are not pale or off tint, white is white not blueish. Of course the iPad 3 colors are slightly Vibrant, but you can only tell if side by side. What I wanted was color accuracy, and previous Nexus 7's lacked that. Not sure if this is a new Hynix IPS LCD or the new ones made by SHARP, It has to be IPS by SHARP, because there is no ghosting and even touch response is faster.
Regardless, Google must have really got on ASUS's back to inspect more units per each thousand shipped. Or they sourced some better components.
thanks for the video killa.
i'm still hesitant to pick up a C80 model as some people are reporting defects with those.
maybe should wait for C90.
lol
I justed picked another one up today too and its a c80 but it still has slight screen lift on the left side. I personally dont believe this very minimal lift is a flaw. You can only tell its slightly lifted when you do the horizon test so all is good in my book!

In regards to N7 screen vibrancy I think it's possible for someone to release a contrast control app. I was playing with a photo in a photo edit app and was using the contrast tweak and it is was possible achieve more contrast and made colors pop-out more. Someone serious needs to make an app.
My C80 is flawless.
I don't think there is anything different about the C8 production run.
I had screen lift, which was getting worse so I returned it.
Color production was fine for some colors, bad for some especially green (looked washed / pastel colored). White production was great on my model, blues were good as well.
Speakers were pretty bad, worked decent but at about 85-90% during video playback and music it sounded distorted / crackling.
SPreston2001 - When I received my Nexus 7, C8 I had ZERO screen lift. It gradually came and got worse. Got to the point where it was actually spongy and I could see/feel it move when pressed. Had it on the left side, and on the top left.
Well I would imagine that the don't wait until the next month to make changes. Perhaps quality changes were made in the middle of August, and some have good ones, others don't.
I just ordered mine, so I have fingers crossed.

Honestly I think that too, but I was making a point that the serial just indicates the month, does not indicate that changes were made.
I would imagine that once production is in full swing and the product is released, its not easy to fix problems and keep up with demand.
I went through a number of N7s and rejected quite a few because of the yellow tint.
However, my very first N7 ordered during Google I/O had the same color quality (without the yellow tint) as my latest C7OK unit. In other words, this isn't something that's new to the C8OK, it's really the luck of the draw in general so far.
I think it must be a hit-or-miss in all production runs. My C7OK is perfect.
So let me get this straight....
Having a screen with a slightly yellowish tint - we aren't sure if that is a factory defect that warrants returning?
I only have one Nexus 7, so I can't compare it apples to apples, but I believe mine has a slightly yellowish/warm tint. To be honest I'm not too bothered by it and believe that it makes reading easier on the eyes, but if you guys think that this is a defect, I would think twice about returning it because of that.
I'm still on the fence about whether to return it because of the screen lift problem (about 1mm at most), but combined with this I would certainly think twice about whether or not I should get a later production model. It's not like I would return it because everyone says so, but I certainly don't want something defective if it would lead to problems later down the road, as I plan on having/enjoying this tablet for quite a long time.

No I can tell you right now the c80 units look no different screenwise than earlier units. Maybe others had bad/defectives screens but my c70 looks identical to two other c80 units I just recently purchased. The color issue more likely can be corrected with software tweaks so dont sweat it. Every unit ive seen had a slight yellowish tint including the display models I played with at Staples, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. Enjoy the tablet for what it is and dont give yourself a headache by looking for reasons to return it.
I think they are all the same screens but they aren't tuned properly. Custom Kernels will tweak the color so that they pop more (Trinity does this). I notice a big difference with my screen colors by using EOS rom (comes with a Trinity kernel).
I have been through all of this with my Samsung galaxy nexus, I went through 3 of them, till i found one I liked. It still was not perfect but gave up after that, some had purple tint, one was blue tint and other had yellow tint, some had vertical banding.
I think what it comes down to with electronics specifically all these screens, no two devices will look identical. I am not 100% sure or know why.
My C80 had one dead pixel other then that worked fine, but I noticed it right away since right in center of screen, I exchanged it and this time got no dead pixels, screen looks perfect, I am sure if I look hard enough I can find something wrong somewhere but I won't because once I do hard to go back.
Hey, I'll make here a short review about the color of my new Nexus 5 Red Edition.
My Nexus 4 was stolen so I went for the 5 but I was hesitating between the black one and the red one. I hadn't seen any review of the red version so that's why I'll make one for the one who can't decide!
First of all, Google mention that the phone is bright red. And it is! Its very very bright and it's amazing.
When I opened the box, the phone dazzled me! It's very flashy and its like neon red, eletric verilion or orange red (See an approximation of the color in attached files).
It's true that it look a bit orange. But in a certain way, the color affects you depending the light there is. In daylight it looks very bright, but in a room with no natural light it will look softer. But it's still bright. You can't get lost with this phone, we can see you from far away (a bit like the red-orange security jacket but not that extreme of course )
I'm totally in love with this phone, i think it looks amazing. But be aware that it doesn't look like a "normal red phone"
Regarding the case, i wanted that the back can be seen, I didn't wanted to hide the color of the phone. But I think that the transparent cases from Spigen (Ultra Hybrid) and Ringke (Fusion) were too big and would ruin the Nexus 5 design. So I found on clubcase.fr an interesting case. It's thin and frosted, not fully transparent. It looks quite good (but not so sure about the protection it offers), it soften a bit the color but the phone looks a bit more orange or pink depending the light. But it isn't that disturbing. I also bought the Diztronic Voyeur case because it seems stronger, but it will come in a few days so I don't know how it will look like on my Nexus.
I hope I could help you in your choice
PS : I'll try to add pics of the phone as soon as possible
Edit : Here is the link to my imgur album with all the pictures with different angles : imgur. com/a/5rymn (remove the space before the dot)
I also have received my Diztronic voyeur case. It looks great and much more protective than my other case but it's a bit thicker (pics in the link above )
you should really test it on the wireless charging function. My nexus 5 works well with the RAVPower wireless charger that i bouht on Amazon. And I am happy with it.
I went into the Telus store intending to get the red one but it looked way brighter in person and I thought it was too bright for me. Ended up getting a black one instead but now that I got a black ballistics case the red would be OK I think being that it would be mostly covered up but still somewhat visible.

Yes sure, with the diztronic voyeur case we have a black case but with some red reminders. its much more sober!
congrats on your new phone dude. It certainly looks amazing. I had a 16gb black which I sold and went for the 32gb white. I have to admit that the white is more interesting looking than the black and I can imagine how the red compares to black. Anyway, N5 no matter the color, is a delight to stare at...no question about that!

I bought the red version purely because it was newer and so rarer and when I sell the N5 it has less competition for those out there which want red.
I also, because I will be selling it, got a red case to go with it.
Makes a change from the usual black of white.
You are though putting me off with the mention of its really red!
My red one is 3 days and about 20 miles into a journey across USA, at current speed I'll have it when the N6 is out.
I personally think it would look awesome in a black case like the one I got. If only I thought of that when I bought it.

Cases are cheap. If I hate red I can buy a black case.
A Red Nexus in a black case? Surely you'd not get much red showing, just at top and bottom and the red dot?
Given XDA is the home of the golden padlock I'm flabbergasted this thread hasn't been locked given it's a review of a colour lol
I'm glad you are excited about your new Nexus 5. It's a great device. However, I'm not sure a review of the color is needed.

I have a question for Cloud White Nexus 6 owners. Did you notice any discoloring on the white back? I'm asking because the white Nexus 7 had discoloring for some people.

I don't have mine yet but other reports from reviewers say it hasn't stained yet. If you are getting one and worried about dirt or whatever then look at Xtreme Guard. Coupon code "80off1" will get you two back protectors shipped for like $3.20 (if you are in the US)

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I think i'm going to get the white one.
To me the white looks more premium, also the white isnt as white as the nexus 5, its more like light gray or bone white, i really love it.
I'm wondering if they don't have a lot of the orchid grey.
Maybe it's just bestbuy, maybe not.
How many orchid Grey's have been delivered?
Mine (AT&T model) was just marked as shipped today directly from Samsung.
I got one in from att yesterday I like it. Because you can see the contrast between the metal frame and the body of the phone.

I pre-ordered the orchid grey Note 8 from Best Buy, and had instant buyers remorse. I almost cancelled it and ordered the black one, but decided to hold off until I could see it in person. I saw it at a Verizon store this past week and am so glad that I didn't cancel. I liked it a lot better than the black one. I too like the contrast of the black front and camera alongside the grey.

I thought the same thing too. In ATT they only had the black one to look at. So I ordered the gray one. So I looked online and for a sec it looked like light purple and I said damn I screwed up. So then I watched a video on YT and I was like yes I made the right choice. You will like it its cool. When I had my Note 7 I had the silver one and I liked that one. It was kinda of like chrome. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy it.

I have the S8+ in Orchid Grey, and it's so beautiful the only cases I could bear to put on it are 'clear'.
Unfortunately, this time around in the UK, the only pre-order colours available for the Note 8 are Black or Gold. Went for the Black but would have preferred the Blue.
In some lighting there is a hint of purple but you really have to look for it. Mostly it's just shiny silver much like the note 7.
Got mine love it, but that all black is slick too.... I really wish we had the deep sea blue option
Preordered mine from Sprint, got it Tuesday. Would've ordered the blue, bored of the black. It's going to be in an opaque case 99.99% of the time anyways. There's a slim color s strip around the camera cutout in all the cases I have (so far), which is kind of a cool contrast
Tapatalked from my Sprint GN8
yeah I received my orchid grey ATT model Thursday from Samsung direct.
My tmobile variant is an orchid grey. I definitely don't want the black one and this look nothing like purple to me!

I got the Orchard Gray one as for the notes I have already had a black one, have had a white one which they didn't offer, and have had a gold one.
I still want my pink note that they offered several times but only in select markets. I hate when Samsung does that. Back when I had to turn in my Note 7 for the recall I temporarily ended up going with the iPhone 7 plus in rose gold which was pink!
I just wish Samsung offered a edge version and a non edge version of the Note 8's like they did with the S7. I would buy a non edge version in a heart beat as I don't like the edge screen and it's too hard to find a tempered glass screen protector that works with a case. Even non tempered glass screens it can peel.
I pre-ordered my Verizon orchard grey 9-2 and got it on 9-7. Works great!

Much less orchid than grey. It's perfect and fingerprints are definitely not an issue as black tends to be.

I concur. Definitely not a purplish color. Also not a fingerprint magnet. Good color if you ask me. I just with they had titanium as an option

I have the orchid grey on both note 8 and S8+. It's so much better on S8+
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
You guys at least get this option. In Oz it's just good old Black and Gold... Only the 64gb version too...
Seriously, they could've sent a few of the other colours out....
If we want Orchid grey or Coral blue we have to buy a grey import that means no local warranty and having to pay a but load more for it from overseas suppliers. We're already getting a$$ raped over the price - $1500AUD retail - that's about $1200USD, and we don't even get a choice over a colour... They argue that these are the colours bought here. Of course they are, little choice if that's all you get. That's almost like arguing the sun is really shiny but only in the day....
Samsung suck in that respect...
I have an Orchid Gray device. Got it from T-Mobile.
Love the color and contrast to the the front.
Don't like black phones and black cars as a rule, besides heating up in the Sun much more, but if had no choice, I would get colored case. As is I got orchid gray and clear case on top, looks good. I wonder why they limit colors for certain markets? Impossible to predict which color will sell and then deal with unsold inventory?

Yeah that deep sea blue is gorgeous, I'm pretty upset we weren't offered that in the states. That said, this black is really something else. Best looking all black phone ever made, methinks.
I was just at best buy and they had all 3 in display. The screen is amazing, the notch isn't bad at all. The phone in incredibly lights, feels amazing in hand.
did they have the Flamingo color?
I live in Garden City South, New York. One if 3 towns/City were they opened a Samsung Store. All of the phones are on display and you can do the preorders there as well.
The phones look really good and feel super light. I have a note 9 but I already ordered the S10 directly from Samsung.

Just black and white...
Saw the blue in person at Costco today very nice
I wonder if all best buy stores have them on display
They should have them.. I've seen them at two spots already and my local Tmobile had the S10 only on display... Phones feel really light even with security sensors..
Pixel 2 XL using Tapa
My Best Buy only had black and white. Prism white appears light blue in person. I went with S10 in white.
