I've been trying to install milaq's 4.4 ROM on my Touchpad and I'm getting a bit stuck.
I've removed my previous 4.0.4 build so that I could start fresh and get my head around the data/media build. I've tried following the text guide and Roland's video guides but keep getting stuck at the same point.
I put the following files in the "cminstall" folder on my touchpad and ran ACMEinstaller5M:
cm-11-20140223-UNOFFICIAL-tenderloin
gapps-kk-20140105
recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.7-tenderloin
moboot_038-tenderloin
update-cm-tenderloin-data_resize_12228-0.1
So far I get the moboot menu and am able to get into the CWM-Based Recovery v6.0.4.7. This is where I'm stumped, I have no idea how to install the milaq ROM. I've had experience putting various CM Android builds on different devices (HD2, Defy+, Touchpad) but I'm struggling with this one. I know that I won't be able to install it the way I'm used to but I've tried searching and can't find what I'm supposed to do next.
I know this is a bit of a simple request but could anyone help me out with the next step? Once I'm past that, it'll be plain sailing I'm sure.

I just inherited an already rooted/android touch pad, so I'm in your same shoes right now. So i'm following close! haha.
I'm very new to the whole webos stuff here, but very experienced with rooting android.
But at this point, don't you just start flashing the .zips in clockwork after a full wipe (wipe factory, cache, davlik)?

That's what I thought but the ACMEinstaller wipes everything in the cminstall folder. Also, CWM only has the option to install zips from the sdcard which isn't there.
AcmeInstaller won't install the zip that resizes your partitions, and when you flash a data/media rom, the sdcard or media partitions are only accessible thru the rom itself so you won't be able to see them in recovery.
I think you will have to start again. Installing a data/media rom from a fresh install is, to be honest, a pain in the ass! You need to have a non-data/media build installed, ie. Jelly Bean/CM10.x, then resize partitions, etc, etc.
If you want to install kitkat from a fresh start, go for flintman's non-data/media version in the link in this post, and this recovery (20121215). Rename rom update-xxx, same for recovery, include moboot, and also have appropriate gapps to flash.

Oh yeah, and don't use AcmeInstaller5M, use the one ending in 5E =)

That guide has been really helpful so far. I'm stuck at the last bit though.
I've installed PhilZ Clockworkmod but I don't know what to do from there. When I turn on the USB Drive, my PC can only see one SDcard (the WebOS one it sees normally) so I can't copy over the CM11 files to the Android one.
Any ideas?

i also have a myphone uno rooted but no custom recovery as of now. i had no problem updating the previous system updates. the recent one came in just fine. then now, the phone (every time it connects to wi-fi) would offer a new sys update. but when this is applied, the procedure results with an ERROR. i wonder if you guys are getting similar results.

i have the same problem. my current system is version is 5.1.1. i'm using stock recovery. my phone is rooted using superSU.

i've recently just tried doing a FACTORY RESET (myPhone UNO), Android 5.1.1, and to no avail: still an error when updated a 18MB update. either the update file has an error or my rooted settings are preventing a clean OTA update.

I finally resolved the update issue. will give you the instructions soon. got to go... but will get back to you once I have composed the procedures... I believe the cause is having rooted and changed some data in the system cache.

*Problem: OTA update failure.

*Possible Cause: Occurred after rooting with anil293 (Android Root Kit here). I’m not saying that this program is bad, but only to caution anyone who may want to root and possibly lose OTA updates.
Solution. (*This worked for me since I had done a previous NANDROID backup (NB) of the phone prior to any system changes (i.e. rooting, custom recovery, etc.). The following steps were written to help those who may not be too familiar with some basic non-GUI (graphic user interface) commands in order to restore one’s device to it’s original and working condition.
Step 1: I chanced upon DEVAM30’s wonderful contribution on how to run RECOVERY without installing it ‘permanently’ into the phone. Check out his page here. This allowed me to make my NB. Download from this page the PHILZ8.img (*This will be the 'virtual' recovery file which you will boot into in order to make your NB)
Step 2: Assuming that you have a previous NB, this (huge file) should be located in the clockworkmod folder in your SDCard. You will refer to this once you have successfully booted in the PHILZ8 recovery.
Step 3: Set your phone to allow USB Debugging. (*This can be done in the Developer’s Section) NOTE: Prior to all this, make sure you BACKUP your critical personal files (i.e. contacts, SMS, data, etc. GOOGLE this to find out how to backup your personal data. The next steps will ERASE everything in your phone. I will not be responsible for any data lose or the bricking of your phone.
Step 4: Boot your device in FASTBOOT mode (FM). (*Power OFF the device, then after 5-10 seconds, press POWER ON + VOL UP. When screen turns on, release VOL UP followed by POWER ON). MENU comes up. Use VOL UP to SCROLL among the choices, and when you have selected FM, press VOL DOWN and the phone should pretty much be in FMode.
Step 5: While your phone is in FM. In your PC you should have ADB/FASTBOOT functions already set up. Check the link here on how to install and work in fastboot mode. When you have properly installed everything in this STEP, you must copy the PHILZ8.img into the adb/fastboot folder. You may rename it into something simpler like recovery.img
Step 6: Connect your phone (*already in FM) to the PC.
Step 7: In your PC, in adb/fastboot folder (*check if your device is connected properly – adb devices or fastboot devices). If your device is detected some number should appear in the screen. Then you type: fastboot boot philz8.img or the name you gave to the .img file.
Step 8: Wait for the PHILZ8 recovery to kick in. Once it boots up you’re now ready to do a RESTORE of your NB. You will see a TOUCH menu in your screen. You will carry out two important steps. (a) wipe the cache and (b) restore the NB image from the SDCard.
Step 9: Choose the wipe menu. In my case, I chose to WIPE (*Choose wipe cache options) cache and the dalvik cache. The former one will take a while, and the latter only takes a few seconds. Once done, +++GO BACK++ to the main menu and then TAP on RESTORE. It will ask you where you will restore the image from. Choose SD card. If it doesn’t do this automatically, you may have to navigate to the clockworkmod folder where your NB image is located. Choose that image and you’re good to go!
Step 10: Once the entire procedure is over (*be patient, it may take some time to finish the entire restoring of the image), you will now opt to REBOOT the SYSTEM. Now, this is critical (in my opinion) because the virtual recovery (PHILZ8) will ask if you wish to install root. Choose NO! Otherwise, it may make some changes in the system settings that will conflict with the OTA updates we want to work.
The device will reboot and you will pretty much be back to its original settings (more than a simple factory reset). And your phone will update a few times and no error will come out.
For those of your who don’t have or have not been able to make a CLEAN NB, I uploaded this RAW image phone (it does not contain any personal data or programs) . You may download it here.

Hi everybody,
I did not want to flash a custom ROM on my new SM-T285 (Android 5.1.1, API Level 22) so that I could use Xposed.
Instead I deodexed my own stock ROM --without going into boot loop-- using knowledge and tools from XDA members. Below are the steps I took, with the links to where you can find the original member posting and/or their instructions. Please make sure to "thank" the person who posted the information and/or tool
Assuming you are rooted with TWRP installed, these steps will hopefully work for you as well.
STEP 1: Flash Jedid's SM-T285 Kernal (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...rnel-galaxy-tab-7-0-2016-lte-sm-t285-t3474967)
STEP 2: Unpack the system folder from your TWRP nandroid (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53913623&postcount=22)
STEP 3: Understand you will need to get the latest oat2dex.jar file (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61284936&postcount=395)
STEP 4: Understand what deodexing tool works well for Samsung (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68432791&postcount=757)
STEP 5: Download svadev's deodexing tool (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/tool-deodex-tool-android-l-t2972025)
STEP 6: Download latest oat2dex.jar file (https://github.com/testwhat/SmaliEx/releases)
Note: I downloaded all the SmaliEx files and dumped them into the folder with "SVADeodexerForArt.exe" in it (it replaced the oat2dex.jar file too)
STEP 7: When finished using SVADeodexer, create a flashable zip (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65481181&postcount=722)
Note: do not include in your zip, the "Dex" and "Odex" files created by SVADeodexer, just the app, priv-app, and framework folders.
STEP 8: Save the zip file you created to your phone internal memory, and flash via TWRP.
After flashing the new system folder (containing the deodexed folders: app, priv-app, and framework) using TWRP; I cleared the delvik cache and restarted my "tablet." It took a long time to load to the "Android is starting..." screen, and I was eventually able to log in. After logging in, I confirmed the the new system folders installed, and yes, my device is truly deodexed --not a single odex file.
Please note, I am not a developer, and please make sure you create a complete backup before doing anything.
---------------UPDATE (Aug 16, 2017)---------------
My phone/tablet is still working great since I've deodexed it. I have since flashed a custom version of @rovo89 's Xposed framework, which was customized by @wanam. I hope to find time in the near future to compile the outstanding posts where I gained the knowledge on how to do these things, and obtained the resources to do them, and give the authors and developers proper credit. In the meantime, if you own an SM-T285 and are eager to install Xposed, I would suggest starting with wanam's custom Xposed module (https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960), which worked for me. The key I found is to use a certain version, which did not cause my phone to boot loop. I'll need to go through my files to confirm which version this was. Additionally, I also recommend debloating using Galaxy Cleaner Lollipop DeBloater from @blaz1nr (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/script-galaxy-cleaner-lollipop-debloater-t3156007). It worked like a charm for me at that point when I used it, having achieved the steps I mentioned above. I did use the script as is, and it really got rid of a lot of stuff I did not know was safe to get rid of.
bro trying your method on my Galaxy Note 3 Neo SM-N750 hl3gxx , running 5.1.1 , but no success , i have used svadev tool , it showed success but when pushing back to system its giving bootloops
used your link for Template zip , that causing bootloop too , so instead of zip , i did copy of app/priv-app/framework to my internal storage , went in TWRP , delete those three folders first from system and pasted the deodex one from internal storage

Everything is fine now, the TWRP guys made the decryption in their latest version (3.2.1 at the time of this post) possible, even with android 8.1.
Go ahead and download it from twrp.me. and don't forget to thank them, because it was a LOT of hard work! Google made big changes under the hood, and it took a lot of patience and endurance to adapt.

This is a TEST release, you are using it at your own risk. If your phone gets damaged in any way, nobody else but you can be held responsible. If you do not agree, stop reading and don't use this mod!

This is stock, normal TWRP 3.1 compiled from source, for the Google Pixel (sailfish) with some small tweaks to make it possible to mount /data, and decrypt it.
Can you use it on the Pixel XL (marlin)?
I don't know... I don't have a Pixel XL to test. If you want, you can buy me one and I'll be glad to compile, prepare, and test it for you.
EDIT: Chainfire "tested a few zip installs" and those were working for him on the Pixel XL, so maybe it is worth a try guys! - thanks for this CF! -
What happens behind the curtains?
I made some modifications to a script that prepared stuff to make the decryption of /data possible. Now it does a bit more... It copies libraries and binaries from /system and /vendor partitions to /system and /vendor folders, so they can be un-mounted (needed for backup). Basically, the recovery uses the real files/commands of the currently installed android os to prepare and mount /data partition (to make it ready for decrypting).
I updated the fstab file, so TWRP knows what to mount where.
I also changed a few things in the order how services are started during TWRP boot.
This is mostly everything. I was only changing external parts/files/tools of TWRP. The original code, the core is left intact.
How well was it tested?
I have only 1 phone, the pixel. I have only tested on this one phone, and it works for me. Of course I can't be certain it will for you, but you will see if you try it
I tested decrypting of /data, flashing a zip file, making a backup. Didn't dare to test restore yet
How can you try it?
This is not a flashable zip, this is a bootable image. So to use it, you have to put the phone into fastboot mode, and fastboot boot the image.
1. reboot the phone into fastboot mode
- if you have adb: adb reboot bootloader

I've only tested installing a few ZIPs but that seems to work fine (on Pixel XL).
I've looked at your modified script and I see the tune2fs commands and copying /system and /vendor files, but I don't see where you actually mount/decrypt /data. Or is this still handled by the TWRP binary?

Yes, decrypting the data partition is still being handled by TWRP. I added some debug lines to the C code, you can see it in /tmp/recovery.log.
The main issue was mounting /data first, and I had to enable file based encryption instead of vold...

I haven't had a need to host Android files since I moved on from LG devices before my HTC 10 and Pixel, but I highly recommend Android File Host with optional FTP access on request.
If you prefer a regular cloud service, I recommend Mega. They give 50GB for free and they have an Android app as well as Windows. Possibly others (Mac?), not sure.

Well, I was able to boot to TWRP, and successfully flashed WETA audio mod. However, upon rebooting, the V4A app wasn't there.

Hilariously, the ARISE sound mod is exactly why I had flashed back from DP4. I'm close with those guys and they know their stuff for sure.

Interesting. I also tried side loading the v4a apk packaged in WETA, granted root permissions and it attempted to install drivers but failed.

Guys! Check the free space on /system! On Android O DP4 I had about 100MB free space, and I had to remove some **** before flashing anything. Try /system/app and Pinyin input, Chinese input apks....
The recovery is fine...
What? I don't know what I did differently this time, but the the app keeps asking to install the driver again and again everytime I open the app even though there was a successful driver installation notification.

Facing this issue...
[06-02-2020] This thread will be closed, but I will keep updating the NOVENDOR AFH folder during next months so please just check there. (I may re-open it at a later time if I decide its necessary).
As the title says, I plan to keep a collection of the ESSENTIAL updates here in this thread because I intend to keep my Mata for a while still and I want to stay updated every month. :good:
WARNING - These are custom made zips as you would download them from ESSENTIAL, except with SYSTEM modifying partitions removed. So anyone who is running on a Custom ROM can easily run the batch file to flash all the other updated partitions at once in FASTBOOT. Easy pz! :good:
HOW TO:
These aren't your usual "TWRP flashable" zips! Please read and follow the instructions below:
INSTRUCTION:
Download ZIP file
Unzip in a location of your choosing
Reboot PH1 to Fastboot
Make your PC/Laptop can communicate with the device
Run the BAT file inside the EXTRACTED folder
Follow the instructions given.
Profit!

You can still use the images in the zip files from this thread, but you wont get the SYSTEM, VENDOR or KERNEL updates.
Would I need to reflash TWRP and Root after this?

Nope you don't. Nothing is wiped.
All the small partitions are silently updated, just run the BAT or SH (if you're on Linux).

Hey, wasn't too hard fixing the script, hope it comes in handy to whomever uses it.
Sorry I hate to be or look stupid... I just don't want a bricked phone or a phone I have to resetup again, but I'm on a custom Rom so do I just run the batch file it do I need to tweak something in order to get the security update? And what is said tweak if need be to do so? Thank you!

Aside from this, the dev also has to pull in the latest security patch in the source code then build it. These zips only provide the updated former.
Man, my pc drives me nuts! I can get it to connect with my phone most of the time, but it is just so fickle about running the scripts in fastboot. I know if I try it on another computer, it'll be fine. BLAH! Just me venting
FYI since updating to this Firmware my phone stops saving wifi passwords. I need to reenter passwords after any reboot i.e. the saved networks are all gone.
