Reverse Tethering on Touchpad (for AirDisplay extension) - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Objective: to use AirDisplay via USB (since superior performance)
I have a macbook pro running AirDisplay. I've got a jailbroken iPad with a tethering app; when connected to USB, I can use airdisplay perfectly (in fact, I can even run a youtube video through the USB with minimal frameskip)
Seeing as I have a TouchPad lying around, I want to achieve this. Unfortunately, alternative programs out there don't work for the Mavericks/Android combination.
My plan now is to try to trick the tablet into routing all of its network exchange through the usb -- aka reverse tethering -- and then create a USB LAN on the macbook through which to communicate with the tablet, and route AirDisplay through that connection. Essentially, this is how the iPad USB display information is routed.
I tried installing reverse tether USB into the touchpad, but it says that the kernel isn't supported.
My question: is there something out there that supports reverse tethering on the Touchpad? I'm running JCsullns' Kitkat build, if that helps

HTC Dream/T-MoG1 (cyanogen 4.2.9.1) USB Tether port forwarding?

*crossposted from the general Q&A forum*
Hi everyone,
As mentioned in the title, I have a G1 running cyanogen 4.2.9.1, and I'm using the wired USB tether to connect my PC to my wifi connection as, unfortunately, a semi-permanent solution. I knocked out the bus on 3 of my 4 available PCI slots, so it was a tough choice between my audigy 4 and my wireless card.
My phone acts as a pretty viable surrogate for a wireless card, with 1 notable exception: It doesn't forward ports properly. Gaming can be finicky, particularly hosting games, and BitTorrent can give me a hard time, so I was wondering if there was any way I could correct these problems using IPtables or some other built in tool.
I know my router's config is fine because I was able to do all of these things absolutely fine with my legit PCI wireless card.
Thanks again.
no love on this?
I started to wonder the same thing earlier....
But for a completely different reason!
I was trying to setup remote desktop on my tp2..... to connect to my desktop which is connected to the internet through my g1 usb tether! Now the only issue is the port forwarding... how would I gain access to that setup?
not to be mean but, why not use the latest stable rom 4.2.15.1?

Tether (Wired and Wireless together)

Is there a way to tether my phone to my pc, whilst also allowing my brother to tether wirelessly?
Or put another way, is it possible to set my phone up as a router?
Thanks.
Yes, but that requires rooting your phone first.
Unless you get PDAnet, which costs $$$
I know which option i would take.
I have rooted my phone, but If I use wired tether* to connect my pc, when my brother connects using wireless tether*, it stops working for me ¬¬
*The two tether apps that come with Modaco's Desire ROM
If I understand correctly, your brother has a wireless card in his laptop/desktop, and you do not.
If that's accurate, and you have a hub/router, and you're using Windows, just use Wired Tether, and then enable internet connection sharing on the RNDIS device on your box and connect both computers to the router using CAT-5 cable.
Complicated? Yeah.
If you both have bluetooth adapters, I would recommend Wireless Tether with 'Use Bluetooth' in the app Settings menu.
Failing all this, I think you can buy USB wireless b/g adapter for like $10-20 these days. Slap that sucker into your desktop and then just use Wireless Tether.

If your desktop is connected via Ethernet but has wireless capabilities there is an app for PC's called connectify that can make your PC a wireless hotspot .

What exactly is your setup is your desktop connected by Ethernet to a wireless router, how is the tablet connected.
what is that you are trying to achieve, the more info you can give the easier it will be for me to replicate and hopefully come up with an answer.
regards
my hp touchpad can connect via wifi, but it's a lot slower than a wired connection. i want to try achieving FULL/near full speed download on my hp touchpad, by reverse tethering to the desktop's ethernet connection.
the desktop is connected to the wireless router through a powerline adapter, i.e. wired ethernet and is achieving full speed on its own.
One thing to note is that you'll not notice too big of a speed boost if you are connecting to the internet. The reason being, your ISP has a throughput speed of say 25 MBits a sec down and 5 up (In a hypothetical situation). Your wireless is usually up to 54 (on wireless G), and wired is either 10/100/1000 MBits. However, you are still throttled by your ISP, who runs at 25. So tethering via USB won't net you faster speeds to Dropbox, but it might for local network related things, like streaming from a local PC, transferring files, RDP, etc.
Just a thought to share, hopefully it helps.
Oh, and running through the power line like that is a messy way to do it. Home power is noisy and slows down your network speeds. Just sayin', I hope I don't offend.

bump
This is the thread that keeps coming up in google searches, and since it was never answered, figured its time for a bump.
I´m in a similar situation atm, Ive got no access to data or wifi as Im traveling abroad.
Cyber cafes abound, and id love to use this app as well, but.. i get the same error.
Im surprised as id assumed CM would have all such features builtin. No big that it doesnt, im just not sure how to add it.
Any help?
(and yes, ive tried to get the other method working, but having trouble getting adb to detect the tablet, that method works on my phone, but id prefer a method that fakes 3g, since that other method doesnt work with many apps)
The problem is the to connect anything to the TP USB connector and get it to work needs power injected into the interface (hence the need for Y cables when using an OTG cable). This ends up as so complicated, that most give up and decide to use WiFi tethering. Also, I am not sure anyone has found a way to get the necessary drivers into the kernel.

[Q] Nook hd Bluetooth tethering to pc

Has anyone managed to accomplish bluetooth or usb tethering on nook hd tablet? I have wifi connection on my tablet and I want to use that internet connection to pc via nook. My pc has no wireless card. I have bluetooth card in my pc. So anyone who have any idea about some apps, xposed module, modifying the kernel, flashing some zips that enables bluetooth or usb tethering please let me know. Don.'t ask me to buy wireless card for pc. Thanks.

For < $10 you can get usb wifi directly from your pc. Makes more sense imo -> http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref...words=usb+wifi+adapter&ie=UTF8&qid=1418427139
I tested easytether app and it will not see my nook hd+ with cm11 m12 whereas adb does see the device and works too. With my phone, easytether found that right away. So I would think something is disabled in the kernel, but could be wrong despite the fact that tethering is obviously missing from android settings and that means something.
Finally I've managed usb tethering via nook hd
I used PDAnet+ app on both pc and nook hd. It installed ADB drivers and with simple setup I was able to share internet connection.

Connecting Fire to Ethernet with adapter

Hi I recently purchased online a micro-USB to RJ45 Ethernet adapter with a 3 port USB hub like these. It was insanely cheap so I thought why not. Reviews said in most cases it was plug and play, however, I am unable to get the ethernet to work. No network icon appears in the upper right and there does not seem to be any options for a network connection. The USB ports work and it was fun watching a mouse appear and an external keyboard work immediately upon plugin. They provided a driver CD and I sideloaded all the files (85mb) onto the Fire - Pictures folder. How do I install the drivers to get the ethernet to work?
Note: Using ES File Explorer I went to Network>LAN> tapped on Scan but nothing was found.
A side question is, does anyone know how to access the 'USB computer connection' menu (where it gives you the option of selecting 'Media device' MPT or 'Camera' PTP) in settings without plugging it into a PC via USB ie. from the settings menu?
Thanks
WXsky
Doubt there is a USB to RJ45 driver driver for this device as it was never intended to work with a wired network connection. As for your other question I don't believe that menu is available on non-rooted FireOS unless a tether has been established (and then only via notification).
Apparently it wasn't intended to work with an external keyboard or mouse but this adapter made it so it could. When I plug it into the Fire it gets power as indicated by a greenish yellow light. When I plug it into the ethernet cable another light appears and it is red so that means I have connectivity, just no driver installed I'm guessing.
Could anyone else weigh in on this please? I need a bit more than just a glib "No". As I mentioned I have the drivers. They were provided on a mini disc. How do I install them? Not totally familiar with Android or other Linux devices however I've dabbled with Ubuntu but nothing on these confounded tablets.

Just because you have a mini-disk does not mean the contents will work with this device or FireOS. I have yet to see an Android device support an Ethernet adapter via OTG; a brief Google search suggests it may be possible with a few select adapters and devices. Aside from driver both kernel and ROM (FireOS) must cooperate to secure the connection. Unlikely Amazon would include that intentionally leaving it to the underlying version of Android (5.1.1) to manage the interface. Given the complexities of establishing/maintaining an Ethernet data connection me thinks you have a project on your hands. Good luck.
